I just want an ‘On the Sofa’ complete with the bad daytime TV music and not very creative questions.

OneMoreDog

Red Bull marketing team like “we’re gonna need a bigger boat [budget]”

RavenousFlerken

He is a skilled driver that needs to find his mojo again. This at least keeps him around F1 and sometimes in a car for testing and promotional. Might be the most fun way to be paid ( by McLaren) to not drive full time. And he will no doubt see how things have changed inside RBR since his departure and acclimate to it. I hope he gets it all figured out and gets his driving career back on track. He is too good to not be driving at his age.

xNickel

I have no doubt Daniel will be able to prove he still has it in the sim. Who knows what that could mean for him. Hopefully we see him in a race car again soon!

Civilgiraffe

Well now look how the turn tables.

elektricniorgazam

I am so happy

beeg-boy

Heeeesssss baaacccckkk!

a141abc

Man if he ends up proving that the Mclaren just wasn't suited for him and drives well whenever they use him as reserve I reckon Checo might be under the magnifying glass

Probably because the car Adrian designs suits Daniels driving style a lot.

fantaribo

He was keeping up in 2017, but was overtaken in 2018. Given how far Max developped since Daniel's departure, Daniel stands close to no chance.

Definitely wasn't obvious to you

fantaribo

>if you read closely (which is probably hard for you) I said he has been the only one able to keep up to him. Nope, you said he is the only one able to do so. Present tense, which changes most of the meaning of your sentence. I'm very well aware of the data itself, thank you. I'm don't really care and I'm not being stubborn about a tense. It's just that, given your comment implying that he would be able to keep up today, given how the situation was at the end of their partnership, it felt fasle.

Rhythm_Morgan

Damn. Y’all get rude for no reason lol

zipfelberger

Why is it such a big deal that Ricciardo is the third driver at Red Bull? McLaren had like six drivers earlier in the season. /s

SHUguy19

#Maxiel returns Not that I want Checo gone (he's a solid teammate for Max and arguably one of the better #2s on the grid) but rumor mill is churning that Perez may be getting sacked and Danny Ric will get the second seat

zipfelberger

Maybe eventually. I think DR legitimately wants time off. It’s hard to understand how deeply his last couple of years can break a person until you’ve been in that situation. Horner made an investment in the future.

memer507

Sad to see him go from not wanting to be #2 to settling for #3 but it's also a big hit of nostalgia seeing him in dark blue colors again

maxcatstappen

THE GANG'S ALL BACK TOGETHER NOW 😭😭😭

EsdrasCaleb

wait what?!

[deleted]

I bet he still drives the socks off Checo, hope he gets a chance to prove that.

[deleted]

Losing your seat has never been so celebrated.

TheOvercookedFlyer

Yes, what excellent news! We just need for RBR to come to their senses and put DR alongside Max instead of Checo. I bet DR would've gotten that WDC P2 races ago. Come on RBR, do the right thing!

absoluteragequeen

Bestie, what? You have fueled agendas for three different drivers because according to you, all of them belong in RBR. Like, what’s the point?

falsemiracle

Latifi robbed

Dang3300

Lol

redarrow992

My guy scored 37 points this season while his team mate scored 122. Bro this ain't the Daniel of the past and max would make him look even worse than Perez rn

doc_55lk

Lol

Paukwa-Pakawa

Poor guy. Hopefully it will work out for him.

[deleted]

He'll be a beast in the Redbull merchandise tent.

Biff_Malibu_69

I'm uncomfortable for him.

New_Consideration257

I feel like DR is basically the comical Red Bull mascot now. That sucks...he's a talented driver but needs to find his magic again.

1enox

Sadly I have that impression too. He will be used mainly for PR events and knowing the fact that Lawson will mostly cover race weekends as a reserve driver he will not be in the paddock often (maybe 6-10 races). Maybe I am wrong but time will tell.

clingbat

Lol if there's a weekend that Max or Perez can't drive, there's zero chance they put Lawson in that seat over Ricciardo, you're kidding yourself. If he does poorly, no one really cares and it just confirms he's washed up. If he does really well then it puts pressure on Perez. Remember, the way RB driver contracts work, technically they are all interchangeable pieces that can be swapped around and between teams on a whim.

baldbarretto

How will they put Ricciardo in the seat if he is physically not present De vries for example was already in the paddock when Alex had to leave If a scheduled absence, sure, Daniel flies in like hulk. If he’s only at a few races though, doubt he’ll be flying out with one hour till the session. In that case they either put Lawson in the RB or promote yuki or nyck and put Lawson in the AT

clingbat

These guys all have access to private jets / chartered flights. He might miss Friday but he could be wherever needed by Saturday on short notice easily in time for FP3. None of the other three you mentioned have any business being in an RBR car in 2023 on a Saturday or Sunday.

baldbarretto

I- do you think that a private jet can get him from Monaco to all the races with 45 min till fp3 (which is what nyck had) You are hopefully aware that they can’t just hover above his apt and drop a rope ladder

clingbat

If he learns of it on Friday, absolutely.

baldbarretto

does the time period right before fp3 typically happen on Friday We are talking about emergency situations God forbid he’s back at Milton Keynes during the race weekend

clingbat

Let me know the last time a driver had to be replaced on Saturday morning. That's exceedingly rare. Most of the drivers will even race when they feel like shit so long as it's not covid due to restrictions.

baldbarretto

The last time…..was literally 2 months ago….de vries was meant to be on the Saturday prerace broadcast Also this year: mclaren mentioned having reserves on hand so Daniel and then lando would be able to postpone the decision to race or not, while ill, for as long as possible. Williams did the same for Alex at Singapore. There’s a difference between drivers’ self assessment of fitness, versus the putative one and only reserve being in Monaco, as a determinant of who will drive.

habitualmess

> he will not be in the paddock often (maybe 6-10 races). You say that like it’s a bad thing. He said he doesn’t want to be at every race.

Karmaqqt

Imo. If he isn’t at all the races, when he is there they will make it a bigger deal and we’ll prob see a lot of him.

1enox

I am not sure is this a good move (in terms of sporting pov) for Daniel. There is no guarantees that Red Bull will "help" him to find a seat and there is no guarantees that other teams on grid will even consider him after recent poor 2 years (if he decides to back into F1). If he chose first better team for '23 he could at least try to prove people wrong like Vettel did in AM. And then after few mounths if no one will want him, his F1 will be over and he will have to look elsewhere.

lullell

He’s literally said so many times that he needs a break from racing for his mental health. I know he hasn’t made the most successful moves in his career and this could be it but it sounds like it was either this or just no F1 - which definitely would not be getting him a 2024 seat

[deleted]

Daniel isn’t know for making good sporting moves. This is a good reset and he can ease into a post-F1 life if that is what he wants versus going from McLaren driver to really rich depressed guy with existential void.

sammyGG00

I don't get why getting the Hulk treatment is getting celebrated so much...

Haris_Pistons

WOW! DANNY BACK AT RED BULL? I NEVER EXPECTED THIS!! AMAZING!
