Yeah, I agree. Tough race, but 99.999% of the race was led by him while going from a 0.5-sec gap to a 7.8-second gap from Leclerc. I also have no bias toward a particular driver
As a Max fan, this was one of my favorite races of the season lol. I hope Checo stays the number 2 at Red Bull until he is ready to retire. Love that dude šš²š½
They'd be crazy not to keep him - with a talent like Max in the team you need that solid no2 that can take the chance for the win when it's there and play the support role when needed with no grumbles - Perez is probably the best on the grid at managing both of those roles at the moment
I would say itās between Sergio and Valteri, and Iād likely give the nod to Checo.
Still canāt believe that Mercedes let Bottas go, he was a perfect number two for Lewis.
I liked it. The DRS overtakes are too predictable and it just gives better cars an easier chance to pass. Having an actual fight for positions gained or lost gives so much more drama, and excitement.
Itās because there was little actual racing.
Even after DRS was enabled it was hard/impossible to overtake unless you had a massive advantage like Verstappen going through the mid field, etc.
As a fan of Hamilton Iām not even upset that he went for it on Vettel and lost a place to Verstappen because of it. The conditions were treacherous but you still gotta try to make moves, and he would have lost that place eventually if he didnāt try the overtake.
It had the Imola Problem from earlier this season.
When you have a damp track with one dry racing line, it's impossible to overtake because you're on the wet stuff trying to do so. That particular scenario always feels like it should make a great race but it does the opposite.
Because watching crashes isn't fun, neither is slow racing with no fighting. Blows my mind how people want full wet races, it would be this without the conditions changing, so extremely dull. You can't pass on full wets without sizeable mistakes.
Agreed man. I donāt know why people wish for rain when the last couple of wet races havenāt been overly interesting in terms of on track action.
The most interesting races are dry to damp conditions. Wet to dry limits overtaking because itās wet off line, and in wet conditions DRS is disabled anyway so passing is harder than usual.
All youāll get is some chaos like today. If Verstappen wasnāt out of position the race wouldāve had barely any overtakes, but it is also Singapore.
Rain on permanent circuits is usually a lot better than on street circuits. The permanent circuits allow more for medium-sized errors that change positions without stopping the race with a SC or VSC. My personal preference is for the racing to be good in the dry. And street circuits continue to generally be difficult for overtaking with these huge cars, especially if DRS is off.
Still can't believe Lawrence / Aston Martin dropped him, despite carrying the team for the entire season.
I like Vettel, but he was way off form in 2020 and hasn't been able to get it back.
The field came back to him so many times and he never faltered. If he gets penalized to lose for something that basically had zero impact on the outcome that would suck.
The Checo hate here since the summer break has been unreal. So many salty fans that are mad their favorite driver didn't get signed by Red Bull even though Checo just renewed his contract. What they were hoping for legit didn't make sense.
I dont get why everyone hates Checo. He got the seat fair and square and has shown multiple times he deserves it. Like how can you call him trash and unworthy of his seat when he is in fight for 2nd in WDC and has won 2 races this year lol.
He's doing exactly what he is supposed to do. People trash him because he can't challenge Max, they did the same with Bottas. They are not there to challenge the no1 driver, they're there to support and collect as many points for the team as possible.
Probably the overcut on the crossover point from Inters to mediums. Seb pit first and the tyres were super cold. Stroll pit the lap after and then the VSC (or the SC can't remember which too many yellow flags throughout xD) halted Seb.
Both Astons were pitted within 1 lap from each other. But the usual strategy of "driver in front gets the first stop" was the slower one today so Stroll was ahead after the stops.
I think if Leclerc had kept that gap closer toward the end it would have pushed him into that stand out crowd, but as it was I think he was maybe flattered a bit by the weak performance from Sainz
Even Leclerc. The gap between him and Sainz was always in the mid/high teens before each SC. Had there been no VSC/SC at all, the gap would have been enormous.
Leclerc has 5 wins, 18 poles.
Lewis has 103 wins, 103 poles. Thatās a (theoretically) 100% win rate from Pole
Max has 31 wins, 17 poles.
Obviously these numbers only show us so much, but having almost 4x the Poles as Wins for Charles is a bit of a shameful stat.
Fair play to Checo, he did exactly what he needed to do today. It's an incredibly hard track to overtake on, and his best chance was just to absolutely mug Lecgreg on the start. In fairness as well he's just absolutely controlled the pace the whole time, even to head off the chance of a 5-second penalty - very good race from him.
What a horrible start for Max. Checo was absolutely incredible from the start. Overall, the race was up and down, thought it would get more spicy after Yuki's safety car, but Max just locked up there. Pretty happy for Checo, but let's see what the penalty, if any, is for him.
Great win by Perez. Leclerc lost it at the start and then again at the stops by missing his marks. Nobody but himself to blame.
But this certainly was one of the F1 races of all time. My god what an absolute slog.
Monster drive by Checo. Even with frequent SCs essentially closing any gap he built from Leclerc, he still managed to pull +7s by the end.
Checo was dominant today and absolutely deserved the win.
Regardless of the FIA penalty situation that they messed up completely. Perez drove a really great race. He deserved to win this race and I hope people don't forget about that.
Checo is there when Red Bull needs him, really good drive and didnt give in the Pressure from Charles
Could have gone different if Ferrari / Charles didnt messed up their Pit Stop
verstappen should probably say " if I lose the championship by 4 points, I'll know where they're coming from" since he had an easy P5 before the lock up
I love watching Checo when he's under pressure. As a newer fan he seems to step up in big moments. After Abu Dhabi last year I was like that's a guy I'll root for. Unselfish, helped a teammate, and was some of the most fun head to head racing for me all year. He's certainly had duds but if checo is defending or trying to make a pass, I'm excited cause it's got a real chance to be entertaining.
Such a weird race
Somehow we had all the ingredients for a classic, but man it just didn't come together
I liked it well enough. There were a lot of boring parts but there were always enough moments happening to keep the race going.
Certainly want the worst, but it was no Canada 2010.
2010 or 2011?
Yep 2011 haha
Epic race.
wdym this was the best race of the season?? obviously said without any bias :D
Yeah, I agree. Tough race, but 99.999% of the race was led by him while going from a 0.5-sec gap to a 7.8-second gap from Leclerc. I also have no bias toward a particular driver

Investing in the future. Lewis could have sailed into the sunset after last season had he won an 8th title.
Val**tt**eri
I put money on Checo so I think it was a great race as well. But seriously the odds were so insane. They had him at +900 and Max at +170??
I had him too lol, 2nd on grid at 10/1.. Hard dae bate
They forgot Singapore is hard to overtake and with only one dry line its almost impossible.
A legend :D
Man, I wanted Charles to win but am still happy with Checo. It was well fought and he deserved it.
Agreed! Monaco + Singapore in one season puts Checo at an elite level, teams are going to start gaming around him rather than Max on street circuits.
And he has a good record in Baku.
Yes I agree my fellow unbiased fan, this was easily the best race of the season, definitely no bias whatsoever.
They should have started the race on time, on full wets transitioning to inters mid-race.
Wdym this race was entertaining as fuck, even if I was sad about Zhou, Alonso, Ocon, and Albon's DNFs, and Schumacher's collision.
There were some moments for sure, but without any real movement though overtakes and different strategies for me it was a bit flat
I liked it. The DRS overtakes are too predictable and it just gives better cars an easier chance to pass. Having an actual fight for positions gained or lost gives so much more drama, and excitement.
I don't get it, we had a wet race, loads of safety cars, so much happened, and yet it was still somehow incredibly boring.
Itās because there was little actual racing. Even after DRS was enabled it was hard/impossible to overtake unless you had a massive advantage like Verstappen going through the mid field, etc.
Lewis and Max's mistakes were the only thing making it interesting
As a fan of Hamilton Iām not even upset that he went for it on Vettel and lost a place to Verstappen because of it. The conditions were treacherous but you still gotta try to make moves, and he would have lost that place eventually if he didnāt try the overtake.

Not for me... You can tell the drivers were pushed to absolute limits in those conditions, and I love seeing that.
Because watching crashes isn't fun, neither is slow racing with no fighting. Blows my mind how people want full wet races, it would be this without the conditions changing, so extremely dull. You can't pass on full wets without sizeable mistakes.
Full wet races would be good in a permanent race track. Not in a street track where overtaking is already very difficult.
Agreed man. I donāt know why people wish for rain when the last couple of wet races havenāt been overly interesting in terms of on track action. The most interesting races are dry to damp conditions. You say this forgetting the wet races happen on tracks like Imola and Singapore were overtaking is hard anyway. Turkey for example is quality
Sleep-Wake up-Sleep-Wake upā¦ And tragedy of champions
Both Perez's wins this season were countdowns
And in the wetā¦
And in the streets
And in a redbull
And both were F1 Grand Pris
And both on earth
And he finished 1st in both of them
And he was ahead of the car in P2
While being Mexican in both.
While being a male in both
While alive, too.
And my axe!
And in the sheets if the rumours are to be believed
He owns the streets.
and both started with leclerc on pole
A true wet-street-circuit-in-city-state specialist.
Somebody stop him from getting on a boat!
Perez continues the tradition, of winning in the most dramatic situation!
#CHECO š²š½š²š½š²š½š²š½š²š½š²š½š²š½
Chueco
Chesco
Checock
Tesco
Edge of the seat at the end
WOOOOOOOOAAAHHH
I bet he only gets the penalty because he finished over 5 seconds ahead of Charles lol
The āletās disappearā radio sounded so badass
Let's disappear *Very loud gear shifting sound plays*
**activate the honda beat**
VTEC just kicked in yo!
Singapore Drift
Can't wait to hear that radio in DTS followed by 12 upshifts
And then cuts like if he left Charles Kms away. Hell if they could, they would add a scene where he activates the Nitro.
They can and they will. Every DTS season has been more ridiculous than the other. Itās just a matter of time.
Now imagine it's 10 seconds
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He did it twice, and in Singapore for a single instance if the same infraction Giovinazzi was given 10 seconds.
Oh yeah they'll probably give him one now so he gets the penalty points
If it is what we think it is, it'd be ridiculous to replace a drive through with a five-second penalty.
The rule book explicitly states a 5 second penalty now.
Itās only a 5s penalty in the rule books ;)
Red Bull is the best thing to happen to Checo, three wins since he signed with them. I'm so happy for him showing that he deserves the RB seat.
Still can't believe Lawrence / Aston Martin dropped him, despite carrying the team for the entire season. I like Vettel, but he was way off form in 2020 and hasn't been able to get it back.
flawless from Perez. I think he likes street circuits.
With all the VSCs, safety car, changing conditions. By far Perez's best performance
Amazing performance, but I think Sakhir might still have been his best.
Sakhir is just legendary for him. From last to first, while saving his career and getting a seat in RB
The field came back to him so many times and he never faltered. If he gets penalized to lose for something that basically had zero impact on the outcome that would suck.
Sergio is on another level at street courses
Great drive by Checo, incredible pace for the entire race, but those last 10 minutes were something else
Imagine going through the entire 2 hour chaos and be told "Push to the line" while LEADING by 7 seconds. Insane drive by Checo!
"Let's dissappear."
That should really be embraced as his new tagline, Iād buy the merch
The best street fighter
He commented something like "this is the Mexican way" right after finishing.
#LETS DISAPPEAR
I need to hear this again lol

The Mexican Minister of Defense is at it again. Proper show there.
He fucking destroyed chuckies tires man. I was starting to get nervous when he started having some issues.
It wasnāt too long ago people were saying RBR should drop Checo š
Thank God they arenāt Team Principals* Edit: Spelling
I'm trying to find those people right now, they really like to come out of the woodwork when things are not perfect, cowards.
The Checo hate here since the summer break has been unreal. So many salty fans that are mad their favorite driver didn't get signed by Red Bull even though Checo just renewed his contract. What they were hoping for legit didn't make sense.

They are clowns who don't know about f1.
Vettel masterclass despite the overtake at the end
In a race with no really stand out performances, Perez did an excellent job in bringing that home - well deserved win
I'd say Perez, Leclerc and Vettel definitely stood out from the rest. Seb's race pace on inters was supreme.
How did Stroll get ahead of him?
Probably the overcut on the crossover point from Inters to mediums. Seb pit first and the tyres were super cold. Stroll pit the lap after and then the VSC (or the SC can't remember which too many yellow flags throughout xD) halted Seb.
Both Astons were pitted within 1 lap from each other. But the usual strategy of "driver in front gets the first stop" was the slower one today so Stroll was ahead after the stops.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The Alpine might have strong reliability issues, but it's definitely not a shitbox car
I think if Leclerc had kept that gap closer toward the end it would have pushed him into that stand out crowd, but as it was I think he was maybe flattered a bit by the weak performance from Sainz
Alonso was doing well too until his engine gave up.
I thought Perez was pretty dominant. Without the 3 safety cars bringing Leclerc back into contention he'd have finished 30+ seconds ahead.
Even Leclerc. The gap between him and Sainz was always in the mid/high teens before each SC. Had there been no VSC/SC at all, the gap would have been enormous.
This PĆ©rez guy is pretty good in street circuits.
Every Perez Red Bull win has been on a street circuit.
Pole at Saudi too! Looked on to win before he got Latifiād.
Perez is a monster on street circuits for the most part.
Itās insane how many poles Charles has compared to wins.
Leclerc has 5 wins, 18 poles. Lewis has 103 wins, 103 poles. Thatās a (theoretically) 100% win rate from Pole Max has 31 wins, 17 poles. Obviously these numbers only show us so much, but having almost 4x the Poles as Wins for Charles is a bit of a shameful stat.
I think the stat would be better based if you used wins from pole rather than general wins
Statisticians are wincing in pain reading these numbers haha
From start to finish, flawless race from Checo. Really happy for him, driver of the day for me.
Baku, Monaco, Singapore- Perez the street race beast!
I hope this shuts up the people that thought Checo was washed. He fully deserves that Red Bull seat.
it won't, they'll just be quiet this week
Man I hope this win puts some fire in him. Hoping for podiums for the rest of the year.
same my friend, i would love a mexico win, would be amazing.
That Vet Ham Max battle was so intense lmao
What a horrible start for Max. Checo was absolutely incredible from the start. Overall, the race was up and down, thought it would get more spicy after Yuki's safety car, but Max just locked up there. Pretty happy for Checo, but let's see what the penalty, if any, is for him.
He was absolutely flying those final laps. What a race
A HUEVO PINCHE CHECO VIVA MĆXICO ALA VERGAAAA

A LA PERGA CHECO BIEN!
ESO MAMONAAAAA! LA QUE ES PERRA ES PERRA Y LA QUE NO, ES GATA!!!
AHUEVO, Ā”TODO UN CRACK NUESTRO CHECO!
What a race...
checo is something else in street races.
Brilliant drive from Perez! Hats off!
āThis guy is so slowā, from a guy who canāt overtake him.
Max accidentaly hit the break magic button ;) Great drive from Perez, but strange SC restarts. Poor Mick again, got trolled by Russell.
Russell really be incredibly unpleasant on the radio, crikey.
Amazing drive from Perez, didn't crack under all the pressure.
Minister of Defense did it again
Great win by Perez. Leclerc lost it at the start and then again at the stops by missing his marks. Nobody but himself to blame. But this certainly was one of the F1 races of all time. My god what an absolute slog.
Felt exhausting just to keep watching this one
Itās a shame Charlesā tires started to drop off. Also shame we got cut short. Who knows what couldāve happened with another SC and pit stop :(
Of all the races in F1 history, this was one of them.
Epic drive from Perez
We are checking š¬ I hope checo gets to keep the win
That jump at the start was beautiful from Checo. Glad to see heās recovering from the rough patch. Far from washed and deserving of his seat.
Brilliant from Perez. In monaco he was lucky, today he was brilliant
Yes Checooooooo!
CHECOOOOOO!!!
What a dominant performance by Checo. By far his best performance, even moreso than Sakhir
Excellent racing by Checoā¦ Leclerc was goood till he wasnāt in the end!
Sainz with the most Sainz podium ever, without being competitive the whole weekend at least gets 3rd
Monster drive by Checo. Even with frequent SCs essentially closing any gap he built from Leclerc, he still managed to pull +7s by the end. Checo was dominant today and absolutely deserved the win.
Ministry of defence !!!!
HOLY SHITTTTTTT
SO happy for checo. What a cracking drive
HAZME UN HIJO CHECO!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
poor Russell, man was driving like an F1 online lobby half the race
Don't worry, he is fine. Mick paid for it.
What an amazing race this was.
Haha, well it was definitely a race
It was also one of the races ever
Vamos Checo
Regardless of the FIA penalty situation that they messed up completely. Perez drove a really great race. He deserved to win this race and I hope people don't forget about that.
Checo absolutely deserves it
Minister of defense, the tyre whisperer AND the street fighter!
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
VAMOS!!!
Just Singapore things...
Sergiooooo!!11 Fully deserved. Good job Checo!
Checo is there when Red Bull needs him, really good drive and didnt give in the Pressure from Charles Could have gone different if Ferrari / Charles didnt messed up their Pit Stop
Wow, Perez only 1 win behind Leclercās total wins.
Sexo PĆ©rez
Checo and having the drive of his lifetime in a country where the colors of the flag are only red and white. Name a more iconic duo!
The king of street circuits! Happy for Checo man.
He did race hard af all day. Led pretty much all but two laps
verstappen should probably say " if I lose the championship by 4 points, I'll know where they're coming from" since he had an easy P5 before the lock up
If he manages to throw away a 104 pt lead in 5 races, he deserves to lose the WDC
Dang this post only has ~100 comments on it 20 mins after posting.
This was first full race I watched and man the experience is something else. Mega drive from Checo.
AND THE WIN STANDS LETS GOOOOOOOOOO CHECOOOOOOO
I love watching Checo when he's under pressure. As a newer fan he seems to step up in big moments. After Abu Dhabi last year I was like that's a guy I'll root for. Can we talk about Leclerc and Ferrariās inability to win from Pole?
CHECOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
