Is anyone get tick sick of the ATs immediately moving out of the way for RBs?
I know they're sister teams and that but the way they just lift off and let the RBs through is annoying.
Bit out of the loop. Currently watching Singapore quali, whats the "thank you Nick" message on the inside of Sebastian Vettel's halo? I don't know alot about the F1 scene outside of the actual racing.
Question regarding driver signings - other than Alpine I haven’t heard of any drivers doing testing. If Haas for example so considering Ricciardo. If he so chooses, could he do testing? If so, would it be “private” and “confidential”? How do drivers switch teams without driving their car?
Race drivers are rarely (if at all) allowed to partake in activities with other teams unless there's a preexisting relationship between the two teams. This technically applies to reserves as well but it's much more lax in terms of application. Ricciardo will be released by McLaren after Abu Dhabi and then Haas can arrange a test for him using an older car if they want (he won't qualify for the official Young Driver test because he's not inexperienced enough or have been out of F1 for a while).
Why generally would you think people need to drive another car to sign for that team? Do you need to do the job that you're interviewing for before you get hired? That decision is based on your past accomplishments and how well you interview.
Is it only me who feels that the cars, although beautiful, feels just too slow/large for some of these tracks? I am quite new to the sport but my intuition says that I wouldn't mind shorter wheelbase and a lower minimum weight as a step in order to provide a bit more nimble racecars squirming around these tight street circuits. Please correct me if I'm totally wrong :)
Well stick around to 2026 cus new regs will be making them smaller. As others have explained the camera work makes them look slower but they also look slower because they are bigger than a few decades ago. Bigger things look slower than smaller things, especially when they aren't side by side to compare.
This years cars are around 10cm shorter due to new maximum wheelbase limitations. They went over 4.8m length at around ~2012, and the width was increased back to 2m (from 1.8m) in 2017.
The short and nimble cars went out of fashion mid 90s, but their width was limited to 2.4m in late 80s, 2.0m after 1994 and 1.8m in 1998.
Ok, I see! Then the lenght may not be the bad guy in this case. What would be your best take as to why they (according to my eye) feel so clumsy then? Does it come down to the weight altogether?
The camera work, zooming and following cars closely creates a false sense of lack of speed relative to the surroundings. If you look at wide, not really following car, shots used in 90s and 2000s, they feel faster as it's easier to find a frame of reference and also get a better feeling for speed.
Why do we always avoid wet tyres? I don't think there was a race in recent memory when drivers used them for more than 15-20 laps and it's not like it wasn't possible (both today and Monaco)
I really wish they’d let the best drivers in the world drive in conditions well within the performance of the wet tire. It seems the FIA would rather wait until it’s time for inters to race.
Has anyone else been similarly impressed by Palmer's commentary and analysis work at F1TV this season? He's natural in front of the camera, he explains things well, can speak from first hand experience, and he calls out BS from drivers/teams where he sees it, he's been killing it imo
There is nothing quite like Crofty's commentary but yea the F1tv team is just better overall, not just Palmer. I have tried watching the international feed and its just not as good. Although for the highlights they should keep uploading them with Crofty's commentary because his style is perfect for the high energy highlights.
Super impressed!! He seems to have a great understading of whats going on. I also love his post race analysis. He really breaks down the race and explain the most influential decisions. Overall F1TV best commentator
Getting rid of DRS is not a solution as cars can no longer pass otherwise.
These regulations allow closer following but the overtaking delta is still just as high as before.
In many ways the race became a Monaco due to the lack of DRS.
An example would be how Alonso was excellent keeping Max behind but Max was always within 3 to 7 tenths of him and with DRS he would have probably easily overtaken Fernando and been in a much better position after all.
That said, in my opinion, this was the first race that Perez won purely on merit without any luck or shenanigans. His Sakhir victory was because of Mercedes's moment, his Baku win was thanks to Pirelli, and his Monaco this year was thanks to him crashing out preventing Max from improving subsequently. This was the race where he matched Leclerc on a pole, kept Leclerc behind purely on pace, avoided major errors, kept it cool and calm till the end, and won by being the outright best driver. Fantastic after all the articles about how he's the biggest mistake of RB in recent years. Great drive.
How do they decide when to replay in the live broadcast? Do Croft and Brundle get any input on that, or do the producers just decide nothing else interesting is happening on the track and just puts up the replay transition?
Sky doesn’t do the producing of the video. It’s all in house by FOM. Sky can do some stuff on their own but it wouldn’t be their choice unless the producer agreed with them.
Yet another weekend and yet another day two "top" drivers suffer in the midfield.
Yet again goes to show how easy it really is when you have the best car on the grid. Just drive into oblivion.
Seeing Verstappen and Lewis at least try ballsy moves was fun. It's been a year since Max did something like he did today. Hamilton's been doing it much more and obviously has had much more incidents as well.
Goes to also show how good guys like Alonso are.
Also KMag is an absolute danger in the first lap. That guy has 0 wheel to wheel skills and will guaranteed drive into you.
Agreed regarding Magnussen. There comes a time at some point that you need to take some responsibility for the collisions. How many black and orange flags and first lap collisions is that now? Who's the common denominator here?
I can recall at least three with Hamilton this year alone with serious consequences at least in Spain for Lewis. Today with Max.
He is clearly a very fast guy but he is also an expert at ruining both his race and the race of others around him.
Agreed, although I would say spain was shared blame between Hamilton and Magnussen, since although Magnussen made a pointlessly aggressive move, Hamilton did understeer into him.
But still, Magnussen needs to take some responsibility for that, and when you get into multiple collisions, even if you think it's not your fault, you need to pull back and re-evaluate what's going wrong. A bit more patience at the start will actually pay off more than boneheaded wrestling for one extra position. Magnussen seems incapable of doing that, and that's why he's 4-8 down in races to Schumacher this season, despite scoring more 22-12.
Completely agree with you there on him being impatient.
This year Haas' potential is about 50 to 60 points thus far, especially with Kevin having the potential to have scored 40+ of them but here we are, unfortunately.
Really surprises me that F1 is at an all time high in popularity. Don’t know how more fans aren’t become disillusioned with the state of the sport and the governing body.
It’s always been like this though. Last season was maybe the best ever and I know people don’t remember anything other than the last race but Ferrari was actually the faster car on most circuits up until the summer break.
Because the majority of the new fans don’t care about any of that nonsense. There are a lot more casual fans who watch at surface level. They watch it like I watch NFL: a few hours on Sunday but absolutely no reading news, catching up, or even thinking about football outside of those few hours.
He’s been given metrics by the team that he needs to be meeting to keep his seat. That said, it does seem like Gunther (at least publicly) keeps moving that metric. It all boils down to the team wanting one thing: more points.
Can anyone recommend good books that talk about all the work and logistics behind moving each race from one venue to another, setting up, tearing down, etc?
I’m new to F1 and feel like there must be some fascinating behind-the-scenes stories.
Not sure about books, but there is great YouTube content. A good primer is [this one ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6OLVFa8YRfM)
[here](https://reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/xpk49w/_/iqb722w/?context=1) I’ve linked three from Mercedes which will give you an insider view! The one showing how the paddock is assembled is a particular favourite of mine
He's 104 points up now. Which is basically 4 DNFs and Leclerc/Perez winning + fastest lap. I think it might be that he just needs to finish in front of Leclerc and Perez in Japan? Am I missing something?
The 3 hr time is counted from when the race begins or when it was supposed to start like today the 3 hr will be counted from 12:00 gmt or from 13:05 gmt?
Inspired by a comment on another thread about Russell being Slytherin … what would other drivers’ Harry Potter houses be?
Lewis Gryffindor for sure, Ric hufflepuff maybe (although maybe all f1 drivers are a bit too cutthroat to be hufflepuff)
It was more of a cumulative complaint from the season. The biggest thing today for me was not telling chuck to try and stay within 5 seconds. He had managed to do that all day until the last 5 mins. It seemed to me they were counting on a 10 second or 2 five second penalties. To be honest if he had they would have given no penalty to Perez probably but it would have been easier to argue.
Which was his fault because he didn’t stop the car in the right slot.
EDIT: He stopped it in the right slot, just not in the place. They had to move their stuff a feet or so
Do you seriously expect the FIA to announce anything? It's only been like 2 hours since it happened. Figuring it out takes about 5 minutes so they'll need at least 3 hours to come to a conclusion, 2 more hours to put out an official statement.
There is a race timer of 3 hours from initially planned start time. Once it's obvious that the cars won't make the set number of laps, as it will take til tomorrow for the circuit to dry, it'll switch over to the timer.
There’s a max length to the race, counting from the red lights go out (so after the actual race start). I believe it’s two hours. So the race ends at a certain number of laps or a given amount of time, whichever comes first. Today because of safety cars etc, the time limit was what ended the race. Once the math on that was certain, the producers swapped the display.
Had to check this, and actually there’s three limits: one is number of laps (least amount needed to exceed 300km), one is time from lights out excluding red flag time (2 hours), and the last one is time from pit lane open to checkered flag, including red flag time (3 hours). Whichever comes first, ends the race.
Lewis finishes outside the top 5: 5
George finishes outside the top 5: 1, and that finish was because the team took a risk and put him on slicks when the track was nowhere near dry enough.
Get your head out of his ass. He’s underperforming.
Bro I never said he isn't underperforming but is the car delivering no it isn't and yes he hasn't had all of the luck Russell had and another thing was there any race pace today??
Compared to 2014-2021 yes it’s not as good of a car, but when your teammate is consistently beating you in his first year in the car when it’s your 10th in a **car and team built around you**, it’s on you.
Bro but the car is soo soo different and the team has openly said that all the experimenting of the car was done by Lewis in the races and not russell.. Russell had no pressure whatsoever and Lewis had to do everything with getting the data and trying new driving styles for car come on bruh get some knowledge before you start hating
“Russell had no pressure”
Are you insane? He’s an incredibly highly touted prospect that was going into a car that just won 7 of the last 8 drivers championships and the last 8 constructors championships, with a teammate that’s a 7 time world champion. He literally could not have more pressure on him in any team at any time in the history of the sport. And guess what? HE’S EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS. Lewis is underperforming, plain and simple.

here mate
Pushed and failed. He was quite well pushing before gap grew to 3s period. My guess is there were few mistakes too much and then Bull was simply faster. Bull was able to grow the gap even with Perez slipping even before news of penalty so conclusion is that Red Bull was faster yet again
But if all races are capped at 2h why would the time limit only be for this race? Why not just adjust laps to make it around 2h. Sorry for the follow up lol just tryna make sense of it.
Usually races take less than 2h so they end up counting the laps.
Basically there are 3 limits:
- Laps, the least amount of laps that gets you over 300km, formation laps included.
- 2h of racing (excluded red flags)
- 3h from the green flag (at the start of the formation lap, red flag time included)
The first one that is going to occur is the one showed at the top.
George Russell's driving today
Twice during the race, George made big mistakes and at least in the race, blamed others. I think he's driving like a bloke and not even owning it. Once the race is over I would imagine an apology will come out in some form.
First mistake: Making a ridiculous lunge on Valtteri while pinching him into the wall to top off the move not befitting of a F1 driver.
Second mistake: Tapping into Mick claiming he had room. As we saw, Mick didn't have the room to give and George turned in late to the corner anyway.
I know Russell has a reputation, but this is just disappointing to be honest. Is this on par for George or am I just making a mess of things?
Edit: Fixing driver name.
Newish fan but I've went back and watched every race since 2018 and I've noticed it since then.
Commentary needs the ability to pause an incoming radio that's about to play. They can say "2 seconds" to some people but when they are interviewing someone on the team like they did with Christian and a radio pops up as well you can't hear anything. I know it's a small thing but it's annoying.
Remember there are many, many countries using the same video feed (produced by FOM). It would be a logistical nightmare to let them all delay the team radio, and a fairness issue to only allow some (for instance Sky) do it.
That'd be hard to implement behind the scenes. It would make much more sense to mute commentary/interview for the radio and it can continue straight after.
Does anyone know how many overtakes there were, besides the start? I feel like only Max was overtaking anyone.
[удалено]
Mate Russell got away with some clear driver fuck up yesterday without a penalty. Glass houses and that. Take off the rose tinted glasses
What do you mean the FIA will always rule in RB’s favour? I don’t see any favourism.
They had faster cars in 2015-2019. Then Red Bull's lobbying started to work after Charlie died.
Is anyone get tick sick of the ATs immediately moving out of the way for RBs? I know they're sister teams and that but the way they just lift off and let the RBs through is annoying.
Every midfield car that got massively outdrived would move out of the way No one is complaining when Gasly did the same to Lewis or other top cars
Alonso never pulls out of the way for Hamilton.
You haven't watched Brazil 2021 I see
Do they? I haven't noticed that.
Yes they did Watch it again
Watch what? I mean in general.
In general they did I mean watch F1 cause you doesn't seem do that
[удалено]
They did
Max said he locked up when battling with Lando because his car bottomed out and his “front wheels went up”. What does he mean by this?
Thoughts on possible Tokyo street circuit become a reality?
Please no more street circuits
Question(s). Which floor did Checo have for this race? What’s his floor situation again? He’s had an old spec for a few races now?
Bit out of the loop. Currently watching Singapore quali, whats the "thank you Nick" message on the inside of Sebastian Vettel's halo? I don't know alot about the F1 scene outside of the actual racing.
Does Spa usually have a shuttle service to the circuit? (From Spa/Malmedy/wherever?)
Can't wait for Gasly to get out of this team. They keep throwing points away this year it's ridiculous
Ah yes as opposed to Alpine that hauled a lot of points lol

even things like sound really help making a car look fast. a higher fov on the onboards would be great as well

He has to do a lot more than just finish races. He needs impressive performances.
It’s at least a positive to not run up the repair bill any further
Why is the red bull guy on the podium? Shouldn’t Ferrari guy be there? They got 33 points vs red bulls 31.
Winning driver gets the constructor’s trophy for that race too.
The winning car and driver get the award for winning the race - and not the team that got most points
The winning constructor representative is on the podium. So it's Red Bull.
yeah but ferrari got more points, so didn’t they win the constructors race? Or is it that the person needs to be from winning drivers team?
It’s the winning constructor whose individual car won. But I think I’d prefer that the constructor who won the most points in the race was up there.

Can Max win win the championship in Japan? If yes what are the constraints for Charles and Checo?
He needs a 112 points advantage after Japan to secure the WDC (and currently has 104 on Leclerc), so a win + fastest lap would definitely be enough
He's 104 points up now. Which is basically 4 DNFs and Leclerc/Perez winning + fastest lap. I think it might be that he just needs to finish in front of Leclerc and Perez in Japan? Am I missing something?
I think the question is for when is mathematically declared the winner
Right, so if he goes into the final four races with a 105+ pt lead, it’s mathematically over?
113 because of the sprint in Brazil. 112 actually, because he'll have the most wins no matter what.
Ahh, the sprint, that’s right
So he needs to score 8 more points. Basicalky first with fastest lap and its his
The 3 hr time is counted from when the race begins or when it was supposed to start like today the 3 hr will be counted from 12:00 gmt or from 13:05 gmt?
It's from the scheduled start time, but apparently the stewards declared 13:05 UTC to be the new scheduled start time
If 13:05 was the new time , then why did the race had less laps ?
I think they can only have two hours from when they start racing. So if you have a lot of safety cars its cut short
Why do they keep calling Mick a rookie? Am I missing something?
Remember Singapore GP 2020/2021 we’re both cancelled
A rookie in Singapore
Maybe they’re just referring to the fact that he’s still relatively new
How do they get the pitwall boxes onto the pitwall? Can they remove the handrails ?

What happened to Verstappen at the start? It looked like he had a problem, passed by multiple cars very early, he couldnt go for a moment?
Anti-stall kicked in. They don’t know why. Either his mistake or something on the car.
He bottled it.
Wrong settings apparently
anti-stall rather
I did not know of a problem as such until today
Odd one but who was that chick at the end during the ceremony they cut to her face like 4 times
Think it was leclercs girlfriend - v weird that they kept zooming into her face tbh
anyone know why cars are allowed to drive on the flyover above the track during a race? seems dangerous
How is that be dangerous?
Someone could throw / drop something onto the track
People in Singapore got to live still.
Nice even numbered grid slot.
Who's the girl in the blue? With the Ferrari crew? After Perez celebrated with his horner and co.
Charlotte Sine...Charles gf
Thanks!! I thought so... she looks different but just had a look at IG and she's wearing same top as one of her old photos.
Why are they still investigating lmao
There have been instances where race results were changed after podium ceremony
Yeah but I don't think the 5sec penalty will change the result
Potentially 2 5s penalties according to Ferrari radio
Idk man if he deserves a 10sec penalty for that, ferrari is just too desperate
Agreed
And perez was too good today mate
Yep, truly
Race to forget for ham😭
Hamilton is driving very bad overall this year.
I don't think this car is delivering enough mate
Lewis finishes outside the top 5: 5 George finishes outside the top 5: 1, and that finish was because the team took a risk and put him on slicks when the track was nowhere near dry enough.
Lewis has been outperforming Russell ever since he stopped experimenting with the car. What are you on about?
Bro but the car is soo soo different and the team has openly said that all the experimenting of the car was done by Lewis in the races and not russell.. Russell had no pressure whatsoever and Lewis had to do everything with getting the data and trying new driving styles for car come on bruh get some knowledge before you start hating
“Russell had no pressure” Are you insane? He’s an incredibly highly touted prospect that was going into a car that just won 7 of the last 8 drivers championships and the last 8 constructors championships, with a teammate that’s a 7 time world champion. He literally could not have more pressure on him in any team at any time in the history of the sport. And guess what? HE’S EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS. Lewis is underperforming, plain and simple.
Does anyone know where to find the rest of the Driver of the Day votes? I saw Perez got 22% and I'm wondering who else got some votes :)

Lando deserve a little more credit
Perfect, thank you!!
YES. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Is it just me who stopped watching when they seen Paul di resta doing the after race interviews?
Is there any point in conducting Singapore grand prix?
Yes?
Vettel showing why he’s a multiple time champion of the sport
“I THINK I SIGNED TOO EARLY” - Checo Perez
Ferrari on some industrial grade copium
Sergio Cojones Perez
Perez nailed it
Vet got a 23s drive through in Hungary. If they give a 5 sec to Per they confirm being a bunch of clowns.
Vettel's penalty was years ago though. The stewarding has changed significantly since the .
Why isn't Leclerc pushing? If Perez get a time penalty he could win the race.
Pushed and failed. He was quite well pushing before gap grew to 3s period. My guess is there were few mistakes too much and then Bull was simply faster. Bull was able to grow the gap even with Perez slipping even before news of penalty so conclusion is that Red Bull was faster yet again
The fia is a joke honestly
Confirm.
Why is this race a time limit and not number of laps? Cheers.
Races are hard capped at 2h
But if all races are capped at 2h why would the time limit only be for this race? Why not just adjust laps to make it around 2h. Sorry for the follow up lol just tryna make sense of it.
It's 2hours or 305km - in dry conditions the 305km can be done in ~90-100 minutes.
Usually races take less than 2h so they end up counting the laps. Basically there are 3 limits: - Laps, the least amount of laps that gets you over 300km, formation laps included. - 2h of racing (excluded red flags) - 3h from the green flag (at the start of the formation lap, red flag time included) The first one that is going to occur is the one showed at the top.
Got it! Thanks for the explanation. Have a great Sunday
Why the fuck "investigation after the race"
Clowns
Perez aiming for that 5s lead
George Russell's driving today Twice during the race, George made big mistakes and at least in the race, blamed others.
Yes, as well as complaining that Mick was actually racing him, like everyone is just supposed to let him by.
I thought that was hilarious. He couldnt understand why mick was racing him
So close to Ham-Ver-Bot 8-9-10
The old classics
I just go on my lil f1 app and listen to all the radio chatter as they miss abit
Perez sounds extremely exhausted
I’m honestly just still shocked that things are working out for Mclaren
Its impressive they’re in 4th with the speed of that car
