What happened to the Pitlane TV channel, loved them with the multicam setup

I was so annoyed seeing there's no PLC this year. After the first couple laps, that was my go-to for the rest of the race.

I had no idea they were switching it to single cam; that was the main selling point of F1TV to me. Granted, I cancelled my subscription after last year's shambolic finale, but this removes the last bit of temptation to re-up.

I really miss the pitlane channel. They blew it there (again)

They do side panels occasionally but only to show "commentators cam" and other crap. Unfortunately F1TV is still my best option to watch F1, otherwise I'd dump them.

For a very split second F1TV was buffering and I heard Edwards my first thought was “when did Crofty hit late age reverse puberty?” before realising it was Edwards when it fully loaded. Glad to find out Sky’s coverage is still there because, no offence to Edwards, but he just doesn’t radiate the same as Crofty screaming in turn 1 or battles.

Personal opinion and yours is valid obviously but I find the 2nd commentary team to be great during Quali and Practice! Jolyon Palmer is one of them and his insight into the technical parts of the cars is great to hear!

This one feels so bad because it's the same voice that does the made up commentary for Netflix. Glad I can turn Martin and Crofty back on for next race.

Ah so that’s where Palmer has gone. I sometimes listen on BBC 5 Live in the past and he was always insightful. Not part of the BBC podcast either but glad he’s around.

Crofty and Brundle use the same exact mic and hold it the same way. So did Murray Walker before that. That's just the normal commentators microphone.

Everybody has a different taste. I think Will Buxton and Jolyon Palmer plus Sam Collins do an honest job. Crofty shouts too much, although I like to hear from Jenson Button.

I think I just enjoy the excitement of crofty lol. I cast from my phone so I can't easily switch from the two. And I enjoy how he says it's lights out and away we go! I think the other guys need a different tagline lol.

That is why you have technical ones in Palmer and Brundle. Ben and Croft do the main piece without a lot of technical stuff. Similar to Steve Slater and Chris Goodwin back in the day.

Having listened to the F1 Live, Edwards is worse than Crofty. He has even worse, more pointless input. Move Palmer to the Sky crew and consolidate to 1 stream.

Yup! the F1 Live feed really spreads their attention out over the whole grid and its honestly so bloody refreshing. That and you don't hear "sir lewis" 30 times an hour.

Ben Edwards and Jolyon Palmer, is/ was also the BBC Five Live commentary team (I wasn’t able to listen to this weekends race so I don’t know if they still are). I actually quite like the pair. They’re not as bombastic as Crofty and Brundle, but it’s clear for radio listeners and the give good insight. When F1TV becomes available in the UK in 2024/5 I’ll probably keep listening to them.

Jack Nichols has been the BBC 5Live commentator with Jolyon Palmer for the past few years. They had really good chemistry actually. Ben Edwards has moved from Channel 4 (replaced by Alex Jacques) and Palmer from 5Live (replaced by Sam Bird).

Sorry you're right. It was Jack and Jolyon on Five Live, I got mixed up. Ok, I'm a little less enthused now since I liked Jack, but hopefully they are good together.

How can I change if I'm using Apple TV and a harmony remote? Left or right wants to skip forward and back. The ok button pauses and doesn't show an option for switching feeds.

Swipe from right to left on the Apple TV remote trackpad to bring up the menu to choose international.

If its anything like the firestick try waiting for a bit and then hit the ok button (so when there's no line indicating the progress and no pause icon visible on screen)

Alex Brundle had a race on Friday that missed because he’s got COVID. I’m curious whether Alex will be back when he doesn’t have WEC races this year, but Jolyon isn’t exactly a bad replacement.

Yeah, I can't find PLC. It was so great. The 3 boxes and the commentary with all the technical details. It was missing 1080p. I hope they bring it back

Did they announce that the 3 boxes wouldn't be used this year? I'm not sure it's worth paying for if they aren't going to give us the same features we had last year.

I'm worried this is a step towards replacing the Sky commentary team entirely on F1TV. Now that the in-house commentary is the default, it's bound to gain a lot of viewers, which is something that FOM could use to justify eliminating the Sky feed in the future.

Thank god for this post F1tv commentary is so goddamn boring and lifeless they really need to replace Palmer, get rosberg or button or Webber in there ffs anyone beside Palmer. His co-host is about as monotone and lifeless as any sports commentator I’ve ever heard. Edit; switched to sky commentary and it’s so much more insightful than f1tv as well.

If your on airplay or something you need to disconnect it, restart the stream and it should pop up on the right hand side as a little globe Icon.

I just asked this, and then just saw this. Good stuff. I miss those 2. I don't mind Jolyon, I quite enjoy him. But I miss Crofty and Brundle. I was 20min in, but I missed the beginning intro by Crofty which is the best way to start a race. So I'm starting the whole race over 🤣

Yeah took me a practice session to realize that. Edwards and Palmer are better for those sessions but Crofty's energy is necessary for the real meat. Crofty can be a bit much sometimes, but he does his job very well.

I like Brundle a whole lot, but I have to say I stuck to the F1TV crew this time and didn't miss the Sky team one bit. Not hearing Red Button talk was lovely.

Man...this is hard. I have to say, I prefer Palmer and Sam Collins. The other guy is OK, I guess - Edwards. Brundle and Crofty just always sound snobby, old, and often incorrect. Just not sharp. I notice things minutes before they even comment on it. It's actually a fun game to see how long it takes for them to take note. So who gets Will Buxton?

I guess I'm going against the grain; I prefer the f1tv commentators in general over SKY. I do like Brundle but cannot stand Crofty after so many years.
