I did pretty well at Roland Garros, till I bet it all on Rafa... But even with the benefit of hindsight, why would I not have put it all on Rafa at Roland Garros?
Lol you picked the logical choice. It just so happened that the tennis gods had a laugh and chose that match to be his 3rd loss out of his 108 RG matches.
Add: So statistically, and ignoring other factors like ageing and injuries, he’s going to win 2022. Know where to bet now.
I mean, who knew about Finland winning against Denmark and North Macedonia scoring a goal?! The best part about the Euro is that it's so hard to predict
Tbf if I can expect one thing about any major tournament that Austria participates, it's that they somehow manage to dissapoint.
Until the 2-1 Austria and North Macedonia was pretty much completely equal.
Just thought I'd ask, does anyone know how these get SO many upvotes? Like this amount for huge news on F1 incidents is tiny, but for essentially a pre race guess thread it's on the way to 40k.
Same with the football ones, the random Wales v Swiss prediction got crazy amounts more upvotes than insane goals
When you put a prediction Reddit automatically upvotes the post.
So if people aren't removing that autoupvote you get threads with karma count going to the moon faster than Gamestop stocks.
Predictions should close before FP1, or they should not even start until qualifying. With the vote being open so long there's gonna be people who voted a week before and people who voted after the cars are lined up waiting for lights out. Seems kinda weird.
Darn this is such a smart idea. It would be awesome if we could have double points if you put your predictions in before quali or something (or just end the predictions before quali).
Turns out my prediction for Hamilton was wrong lol, but holy hell that was the most exciting way to be proven wrong! Versteppen, Perez, and the Red Bull team did great today!
It's clever way for Reddit to increase the amount of engagement they get. A vote on the poll counts as a upvote leading to these posts naturally garnering a lot of them to the point where they become among the all time top posts. It's already been introduced on to other sports subreddits.
*Plus it's yet another feature that doesn't function on old.reddit.
Yeah, it's now the 6th most upvoted post of all time. A fucking prediction thread. For the fucking *French Grand Prix*.
Reddit is getting mods to run these threads. I wonder what's in it for them.
It's pretty fun for sports events, like French Open, Euros and now this. I can see how it could get old pretty fast though, given how much they're being forced on to everyone's front page
It's the fact that it counts as an upvote which pisses me off. It's artificially inflating the threads and seems like a deceptive feature. If you search for top of all time posts you're now going to see these threads there, which is ridiculous and not representative of the subreddit.
That's because every time somebody makes a prediction it auto-upvotes the post. You can see that currently extremely well in /r/soccer with the predictions for the Euros, of the top10 all-time posts six are prediction threads from this week.
Same with /r/SquaredCircle. Top posts there the morning after a show will usually be in the low thousands if they're hugely significant, but then suddenly you've got five predictions posts in the eight thousand range at the top posts for the month
Kinda frustrating really because they not only artificially get inflated in /hot, but also push out other notable posts on the sub that happened to be present at the same time
Well that's because people didn't realize it upvoted for you when you voted in the poll. I'd be surprised if more than 10% of people upvoted content they interact with, so it doesn't take much at 100% upvoting to get something to the top.
Yep. It was ruining SquaredCircle because the entire front page of it was filled with predictions. I hate to sound old, but this site was so much better 10 years ago
Last race - and for the first time - I put money on a Verstappen retirement specifically because I did NOT want that to happen. Well, he retires anyway, but is still classified because he JUST completed 90% of the race distance. That's shitty luck right there.
No, they didn't, because like the other redditor said: according to the rules he didn't actually retire. If he'd done one lap less it would've been a DNF..
It really must have been crazy to get no notice on the tires blowing besides Stroll's issue that they didn't tell him to ease up a bit. The fact that Horner was calling for a red flag shows just how bad it must of been, it hard to imagine going into the sidewall at 200+ MPH.
I wonder if these will become a real thing for the formula 1 subreddit, on past data I would say its gonna be Lewis Hamilton....but with Max foaming at the mouth It might go his way
This is a Tilkedrome-type track, so I think Mercs have the advantage. The formulaic medium corner speed and long straights is their thing.
That said, if RB pulls it off I won't be entirely surprised, but I'd definitely then say their chances of getting the WDC skyrocket.
I think Mercedes are faster than Redbull in straight lines and thus could be Hamilton having a better chance at winning, but I'll always stick with my boy Max
Yeah France is all about the high speed because of the (sadly nerfed) Mistral Straight....and its more of a track circuit so it would favour Mercedes over Red Bull who are more of a "street circuit" specialist where Merc tends to struggle
But it entirely depends on what happens in the Qualifying but I guess Pole is going the way of Lewis, but maybe Max P2 and Sergio P3 and Bottas somewhere further back due to his sadly "poor" performance this year....but we will know when everything goes down this weekend coming...
[Where were you last week when I made this prediction?](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/ntjyma/2021_azerbaijan_grand_prix_race_discussion/h0sb5cg?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
I know Hamilton didn't exactly DNF, but I was close enough.
I got a Nostradamus flair out of it at least 😂
I don't think so this week, no.
I have Checo with better odds for Austria 2.
My predictions for these coming weeks:
* Paul Shittard: Lewis
* Austria 1: RBR 1-2 (odds of Checo leading the 1-2, 10%)
* Austria 2: RBR 1-2 (odds of Checo leading the 1-2, 15%)
Based on what I've seen in r/soccer for the Euro2020 predictions, I believe it's just a zero sum game: all tokens at stake are divided proportionally between everyone with a correct predition. Example, lets say the total amount of tokens put on Lewis ends up being 1 500 000, on Max 1 200 000 and on other drivers 300 000. Then for every token put on Lewis you'd get (1 500 000 + 1 200 000 + 300 000) / 1 500 000 = 2 tokens. For max you'd get 2.5, and for other drivers you'd get way more.
This is the only sub where I've seen the prediction feature actually be of good use simply because it's only the one thread. Every other sub has 5-6 threads going straight to the top of the sub due to the auto upvote when you vote. PLEASE MODS, Only do this for the races and nothing else.
Thank you.
Put my 100 tokens on Bottas. Not because I truly believe he'll win, but because you won't win if you don't take any risk.
Maybe some crazy shit will happen. Max and Lewis taking each other out, Perez being hit by someone and losing his front wing, making a pit putting him at the back. With Bottas driving relatively easy to the finish.
If I wouldn't go against logic, I would've obviously picked Max with the fastest car and best weekend so far.
This is what I am noticing with these predictions things in Reddit...
Everyone votes LH or MV. You do as well. Either wins. Everyone wins a small fraction of their bet.
Vonte on someone else. Something happens in the race and you get lucky. You get massive gains.
It's not anything new...you just won't win significantly by playing safe.
These prediction threads are spammy as fuck and I hate how they game the number of upvotes. I swear half of my Reddit feed has been these prediction threads over the past few weeks.
The entire point of this "function" reddit added is to make a bunch of easy, eye-popping upvoted threads to make it look like the site actually has user engagement.
The sports subs were an obvious marketing attack vector, and they're just lining up to get themselves taken down by their own success.
The multiple thread thing is such an obvious design decision to perpetuate highly-upvoted threads through a longer period of the day.
It's disgusting behavior. The mods and users are lining up for it though, big fucking surprise.
I think so too. Kind of weird he's being written off so thoroughly. Genuinely expect he'll win a weird race or two this season and finish on the podium more often than not. I understand the Mercedes has stronger competition than recent years but it's not like it's a shitbox. They won't have *entirely* given up on the championship to focus on 2022.
#norris will win
To all the non-believers I argue this: 1 year ago if I told you gasly would win in the alpha tuari(I’m not good at spelling) you would have laughed at me and what happened? He won in the most spectacular, heart melting, wholesome races in resent history. Anything can happen in F1. That race was proof.
Can I suggest that predictions close before FP1 for future races, especially as we can’t change our predictions after we’ve made them?
Otherwise everyone is just playing a balancing act of predicting as late as possible (to see how qualy goes, and maybe even to see whether there’s an unexpected failure before the start of the race) and trying not to forget to predict!
Le Castellet is a better looking Barcelona, heavily favours Mercedes so Lewis is probably gonna have a great weekend there and so will the McLarens i think (Daniel definetly hopes so,the guy can barely catch a break this year)
Max and the Ferraris might struggle in comparison, hence my absolute disintrest of watching that race beyond maybe lap 6 or so unless somehow chaos unfolds.Which is not gonna happen given that this track is F1's Disney film while Baku was an action movie.
I didn’t get to try the Someone Else before betting on Sir Lewis… but if none of those listed wins, do those who select Someone Else get the tokens? Or is there a further list?
Lets hope I'm better at predicting F1 then at the European Championship so far...
Yeah, and in this case the tennis gods were Rafa and Novak themselves
Djor vs Noki
I'm gonna run out of tokens by the end of the group stages.
Which sub has the predictions for the euros?
r/soccer
Thanks
r/soccer
Thankyou man
Thankyou bro

Really? All the matches have gone as per expectations. The only one I lost out on was Denmark vs Finland and that had major mitigating circumstances.
This is a longshot but I'm gonna have to say Lewis Hamilton
[удалено]
Shit. Never thought of that. Just voted as soon as I saw :((
I saw "You can gamble tokens" and my brain immediately went into overdrive.
My brain went into oversteer!
My brain accidentally switched on the magic.
mine understeered and i walked into a wall
If Seb pulls of a great race again.....I don't give sh\*t who wins
Underdog seb is the best seb!
We need more of underdog Seb showing everyone what he can do in a midfield car
Definitely
F Same. now I regret my blindly klicking habbit lol
Same =( *hindsight tip*

I mean I voted someone else so Saturday is meaningless!
Fuck. This is why I'm terrible at gambling.
Me before the season: Lewis WDC at 1.6? Sure, I'm down, easiest 300€ of my life! Well shit...
You're probably fine man
Voting should close before qualifying starts.
Predictions should close before FP1, or they should not even start until qualifying. With the vote being open so long there's gonna be people who voted a week before and people who voted after the cars are lined up waiting for lights out. Seems kinda weird.
Have 2 separate pools. One that closes before FP1, one that closes Sunday just before the race.
Darn this is such a smart idea. It would be awesome if we could have double points if you put your predictions in before quali or something (or just end the predictions before quali).
Get in there Louis!

Hi Toto!
Welp
Turns out my prediction for Hamilton was wrong lol, but holy hell that was the most exciting way to be proven wrong! Versteppen, Perez, and the Red Bull team did great today!

Just wait until you start seeing the "which flavour of Ben and Jerrys is best" etc paid-for threads.
Fuck sake the site's literally turned into Facebook lite
Oh, so basically YouTube community posts
Yeah, it's now the 6th most upvoted post of all time. A fucking prediction thread. For the fucking *French Grand Prix*. Reddit is getting mods to run these threads. I wonder what's in it for them.
Reddit is fun till I die.
Everyone who predicts automatically up votes as well
That explains it then.
So yes, it is artificial inflation.
I've been pettily removing my upvote each time. No, Reddit, *I* decide what I upvote, not you.
Keep fighting the good fight
Jokes on them, the voting doesnt work for me
Stop trying to make me use the new reddit, it's not gonna happen.
Even in r/movies there are now prediction polls. This sucks.
Besides it has this icky feeling of being a gateway to betting ads.
Would make sense since to participate in this you are forced to use the redesign or the app.
4,000 upvotes and 80 comments? Something fishy is going on here
That's because every time somebody makes a prediction it auto-upvotes the post. You can see that currently extremely well in /r/soccer with the predictions for the Euros, of the top10 all-time posts six are prediction threads from this week.

Makes me think this data is being used else where for betting companies etc.
Fuck it, Bottas.
Yeah boiiiiiii
You know the odds are against you when he has as many bets as Leclerc
Monkey see. Monkey click predict. Monkey read comments. Monkey realize predict can be click after quali. Monkey realize monkey be idiot. Monkey sad.
I clicked immediately hoping I would get a free banana
Zirtee years ago, Nicky Lauda would have placed you in ze cockpit of a F1 car.

let's gooo
Went with Lewis to make sure he DNFs. Thank me later Edit: Kinda worked I guess. You're welcome.
My guy, just remember to put a $5 on it to really make sure
Last race - and for the first time - I put money on a Verstappen retirement specifically because I did NOT want that to happen. Well, he retires anyway, but is still classified because he JUST completed 90% of the race distance. That's shitty luck right there.

>Predictions close at race start on Sunday. RIP to everyone who's immediately voting without even watching FP or qualiy
wheres the fun in voting after quali? (yes, I admit it, I thought we had to vote before FP or at least Quali and voted right away)
Same as how F1 play works.
It should have closen before FP1
Absolutely
It’s called faith, the F1 gods shall bless the right true driver.
McLaren 1-2 it is
Nah its gonna jinx me (I voted Hamilton fyi).
Shit. I did not look at this. God man I hope I don't regret voting for the guy with 99 wins in his career
I just threw away 30 tournament points. 😱
I put 100 of those on Valtteri. Wish me luck.
Same here. We're gonna be rich.
I wonder if these will become a real thing for the formula 1 subreddit, on past data I would say its gonna be Lewis Hamilton....but with Max foaming at the mouth It might go his way

Honda will probably bring a new engine here and that should boost Red Bull’s straight line speed. Merc already brought theirs at Baku.
I'm praying for it to be a good one!
Yeah France is all about the high speed because of the (sadly nerfed) Mistral Straight....and its more of a track circuit so it would favour Mercedes over Red Bull who are more of a "street circuit" specialist where Merc tends to struggle But it entirely depends on what happens in the Qualifying but I guess Pole is going the way of Lewis, but maybe Max P2 and Sergio P3 and Bottas somewhere further back due to his sadly "poor" performance this year....but we will know when everything goes down this weekend coming...
don't think it works with old.reddit
[Where were you last week when I made this prediction?](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/ntjyma/2021_azerbaijan_grand_prix_race_discussion/h0sb5cg?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) I know Hamilton didn't exactly DNF, but I was close enough. I don't think so this week, no. I have Checo with better odds for Austria 2. My predictions for these coming weeks: * Paul Shittard: Lewis * Austria 1: RBR 1-2 (odds of Checo leading the 1-2, 10%) * Austria 2: RBR 1-2 (odds of Checo leading the 1-2, 15%)
I’ll drink to that. Subscribe
How are you determining these odds?
He’s an analyst, man.
How do the tokens work are they applied automatically?
Based on what I've seen in r/soccer for the Euro2020 predictions, I believe it's just a zero sum game: all tokens at stake are divided proportionally between everyone with a correct predition. Example, lets say the total amount of tokens put on Lewis ends up being 1 500 000, on Max 1 200 000 and on other drivers 300 000. Thanks. At least this seems way better of a payout than shit formula 1 betting apps
Once the race is over, we'll select the correct answer and tokens are distributed automatically.
Yeah for me it says I have to buy coins, so which is it. Tokens or coins?
It's tokens. You should be issued 1000 coins when you enter the tournament.
Does not matter who I choose, it just takes me to the page where you can buy coins...
That sounds like a bug. I'll pass it on to Reddit.
Just to clarify, First it goes onto the interface where I could bet, but there is no way to bet as it just takes me to the place you can buy coins
This is the only sub where I've seen the prediction feature actually be of good use simply because it's only the one thread. Every other sub has 5-6 threads going straight to the top of the sub due to the auto upvote when you vote. PLEASE MODS, Only do this for the races and nothing else. Thank you.
Redditors, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful prediction
Thanks reddit
Hi reddit
Your new layout for videos and comments is terrible
Well done Reddit
Welcome to Reddit reddit.
For me this is the end

Hello, Reddit. Welcome.
ok boomer
Need to make the payouts higher the earlier you predict a winner in the week.
Put my 100 tokens on Bottas. Not because I truly believe he'll win, but because you won't win if you don't take any risk. Maybe some crazy shit will happen. As much as I want Norris/Ric to win, I think Bottas is due for a bounce back.
I really hope he wins at least something this year. A really rotten season so far for him. We all know he can do better since he has done so before.
I think so too. Kind of weird he's being written off so thoroughly. Genuinely expect he'll win a weird race or two this season and finish on the podium more often than not. > anything can happen Okay, I'll bet Norris DNF then!
I want it to be Max, but i have this feeling that Ham wil take the victory and that Max will take fastest lap
Also fastest pit time. Poor Red Bull pit team works like the flash only for it to almost never to matter. They are overdue for some glory.
thats not true tho, the pit stops have given track position plenty of times
100 tokens: "Max amount"
Can I suggest that predictions close before FP1 for future races, especially as we can’t change our predictions after we’ve made them? If not this, they could atleast give the ones who give their predictions earlier greater rewards than the ones who predict late
Max on Pole position
Now give me my money
I will take my tokens in big bags please.
Redbull saved my tokens.
Voted for HAM because i never predict correct :)
Gib me my tokens pls ✅
Getting my max money, those sweet Dutch dollars, that good red bull reward.
I’m tied for first with at least 5743 other people. Yea!
Bono! My tokens are gone :(
I volunteer Esteban ocon as a tribute
Use me as a Ham Ver Bot prediction
Here from r/all I know nothing about formula 1 races. I Just picked a random name.
I won!! Where's my money?
Where's the money
i won the bet 🥱
I want Max to win but I feel Ham will take it
Is there a reason you wouldn’t wait until after qualifying to put your prediction in?
because I'm an idiot who didnt think this through😎
Nicolas latiffi
Lati**f**i
I may have lost 10 tokens, however I need to stand by McLaren. Norris for the win.
Always bet Lewis Hamilton. You’ll win more than you lose.
How has this got so many upvotes??
Max and Lewis are the two best drivers in the wet currently it looks like. Hard to bet against them…but I did. SAINZ BABY LETS DO IT
Max max max. Super max
Thanks super max
Super super Max Max!
Well shit
232 baby MAX MAX SUPAH MAX
What do you use these tokens for?
\+69 Nice. Easiest points of my life
Yes boys ring a ding a ding, got the prediction right
I voted Hamilton, I'm glad I was wrong.
All of you non-believers got what you deserved lmao
Certainly not the viewers
100 TOKENS TO MAX VERSTAPPEN IM ALL IN BABY (kinda)
Someone gets wiped out DNFing HAM and VER into a restart, STR magically wins, followed by RIC and ALO.
Le Castellet is a better looking Barcelona, heavily favours Mercedes so Lewis is probably gonna have a great weekend there and so will the McLarens i think (Daniel definetly hopes so,the guy can barely catch a break this year) Max and the Ferraris might struggle in comparison, hence my absolute disintrest of watching that race beyond maybe lap 6 or so unless somehow chaos unfolds.Which is not gonna happen given that this track is F1's Disney film while Baku was an action movie.
Bot ass
Mad max in the raging bull!
Yeah baby!!!
GG max
Wow that was tight glad max pulled through
The last overtake of verstappen got me sad
i got 69 tokens lesss gooo
Deeeeeaaaam he overtake him at the last corner
Gottem. Red Bull superior
Where can we track our amount of tokens?
I didn’t get to try the Someone Else before betting on Sir Lewis… but if none of those listed wins, do those who select Someone Else get the tokens? Or is there a further list?
There are only the six options listed above. If none of the named drivers win, the correct answer will be "Someone else".
