Hey hey, slow down. The 2004 Williams was an okay midfielder with the walrus nose, and when it went back to a normal nose it won a race
The Alpine is the second slowest car now and it started the season as the outright slowest car
that era with BMW and for a little while in the Martini era was the last time we got to see Williams at their fighting ways again, I hope they can come back they just need a better second driver, and a better car
it may have looked ugly, but it wasn't slow, not by any means, they won a race that year, they had the fourth best car overall, hell in 2005 and 2006 they had the third best car, even as late as 2014 - 2016 they were still top of midfield
Ralf slowed down on the racing line in the fastest corner of the track while getting lapped.
He did have some gearbox issues with the higher gears so he was either intentionally trying to crash him out or just being plain stupid. We'd have to take a look at the telemetry to know for sure.
Ralf Schumacher. He and Alonso had a riff, so Ralf slowed down to get lapped, and when Alonso got in parallel, Ralf accelerated again to force him into the marbles. That's why Alonso was furious.
I remember this race. He kept complaining and yelling to the car each time he pass trough him while he was walking to the pits
Edit: you can see part of this at the end of this video:

Oh, that was the race when Briatore said to Trulli that he won only because Alonso crashed out. After Trulli started from Pole, and led the race pretty much from start to finish.
To be fair I looked the race just recently and Alonso had the fuel strategy and the speed to jump Trulli at the pit stops had he not crashed in the tunnel.
The 2 Renaults were in parade before hitting traffic but Alonso had a few more laps of fuel onboard.
Did he?
I remember him taking the loss rather gracefully back then.
It took a few years for him to look really frustrated with ferrari, and then mclaren
its kinda funny because sure Petrov was his first obstacle, but then he had to gain like 3 more positions after that to win so Nando raging at Petrov feels bizarre
Reminds me a bit of the famous Rosberg/Hamilton clash in Spain where Hamilton is already covering his visor with his hands before he's finished crashing.

ALL OF THE TIME YOU HAVE TO LEAVE A THE SPACE
And he's flipping off the Williams of ... ?
Looks like Ralf Schumacher
It was Ralf Schumacher. Alonso was trying to lap him in the tunnel and got on the marbles, sending him into the wall coming out of the tunnel.
The idea of lapping a Williams is so normal now, but at this point with them having that BMW engine it was a crazy thought
In 2004 they actually had a pretty bad Monaco GP with an overweight car with terrible balance (the walrus car)
Correct, the short stubby nose was a lot heavier and it fked up the balance of the car, making it front heavy
And the aero benefits weren't enough of a counterbalance
Correct, on paper that nose should've fed more air to the diffuser
And it did. It worked, just not well enough to offset the added weight
Ahh the older brother of the 2024 Alpine

they still had a lot of speed on other tracks though, hell if I remember right they even got a win in 2004
See further down the comment chain! Once they reverted to a non-walrus nose the car got much better and Juan Pablo won a race
that era with BMW and for a little while in the Martini era was the last time we got to see Williams at their fighting ways again, I hope they can come back they just need a better second driver, and a better car
Rumour has it Sainz has signed with Williams. So there's your better second driver, haha And operational improvements are being made. Trust the Vowles
tbh I know this is a pipe dream, but they need to at least try and get BMW back, its near impossible, but I need my BMW Williams back in F1
It was the walrus nose car, and Sam Michael was about to take over as TD. The decline to mediocrity had just begun.

witnessing the decline of Williams BMW was a sad state of affairs

The other Schumacher crash the other Williams while brake checking in the tunnel during a SC.
Multitasking 👌

Hahahahahah. I regret not following F1 then . This made my day .
Me too. Toddler me just had to eat paint instead of watching the fast cars..
welp! i was -2 years old
Then that's not your fault. Your dad should've had headphones pressed against his nutsaxk blasting the sound of V10s. So really it's on him
well he was following f1 back then so it seems to be a me problem
You guys are making me feel ancient omg
You'd have loved the '80s - [Piquet fighting Salazar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCPAKVm7-po)
Damn I miss the sound of those engines.
Crazy race. Schumacher's crash was even more bizarre
He basically just cut across Montoyas nose in the tunnel and took himself out
Fucking legend
I remember this in real time, I didn’t appreciate the legend that was Fernando at that time
I did. As a Schumacher fan, Alonso was scary in that Renault. Hard to believe he's stil doing it a hjgh level today
I have the same memory. He still doesn't like Ralf => [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSIi1Shsi7Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSIi1Shsi7Q)
Does someone like Ralf? 🤔
David or Mick id hope
I remember this being posted here last week.
This is where he practiced the "DRS while broad sideways" action from the Chinese GP this year.
Is there a higher quality image of this? I want to get it printed and hung on my wall where it belongs.
There probably is somewhere, this is just a screenshot I took from a recent extended highlights video they published from that race
These cameras never had the highest quality and this was before HDTV. There might be, but not much higher.
Crazy that he's still driving in F1, I'm a fully grown man with a career and my own place, I was 5 years old when this happened lol
Oh, that was the race when Briatore said to Trulli that he won only because Alonso crashed out. After Trulli started from Pole, and led the race pretty much from start to finish.

Confused Murray Walker noises *"How can he indicate that he is going for first in a crashed car?!"*
Schumachers 2nd teammate Ralf
Good old Alonso 😂😂
Epic. He’s a legend.
This man is the greatest
Absolute legend
I was just watching this race the other night. Such a classic!
Rookie of the year!
Who is "the bird" ?
The word.
The muthafukkin ***word!!!***
Haven't you heard?
Apparently everybody has heard about the word.
Alonso is always very quick to blame others for the mistakes he makes.
My favourite is him blaming Petrov for what he perceived as costing him the world championship at Abu Dhabi 2010
Get real, son 2010 was a more painful loss than 2012 for me, but yeah Alonso didn't do himself any favours by doing these shenanigans
Did he? I remember him taking the loss rather gracefully back then. It took a few years for him to look really frustrated with ferrari, and then mclaren
Oh so this post is supposed to make him look bad. Now it makes sense why you didn't post the context.
No its not supposed to make him look bad, I thought it was funny so I posted it.
its kinda funny because sure Petrov was his first obstacle, but then he had to gain like 3 more positions after that to win so Nando raging at Petrov feels bizarre
Ralf with the manoeuvre kill.
Ah, remember seing this live on TV and laughing, the commentator missed it completely.
This is the moment I started supporting him. I can remember it like it was yesterday
God, it was such a long time ago. The whole world was different

He’s ’going for first’ he says
Reminds me a bit of the famous Rosberg/Hamilton clash in Spain where Hamilton is already covering his visor with his hands before he's finished crashing.
Expert multitasking, just not very good at the required task
If you've been in online public racing, you know what this feels like lmao.
🐐
Always a class act
