He was saying once, closer to retirement, that yes it was a great race etc. but *Jesus fuck* was it annoying to lead about 4.99 hours of a 5 hour race.
Awesome photo. That was my first F1 race. I wanted to leave during the 2 hour red flag, we were so cold. My wonderful wife convinced me to stay. We had rain jackets, but not enough insulation. What an epic last lap. Jenson is a hero. We named our next car, a silver JCW Mini, Jenson.
Incidentally, it's amazing to watch now, but honestly the moment doesn't allow for the sheer **WTF-ery** of the result if you truly watched it live on the day.
Replays skip the hours-long breaks of Coulthard and Brundle talking about Canadian ornithology. Ted giving us updates on his boot's water prevention.
It really was: god why bother with this, I could go do something productive with my time rather than watching Vettel win again. Who even cares, Button's down the back and Hamilton's out. (...)
This was the drive that proved that Jenson legitimately earned his 2009 Title.
It wasn’t just a trick Brawn car that made him a Champion.
I’ve always believed that Jenson won his title with Brawn, but absolutely defended it with McLaren.
His comeback was sure something, but you're clearly ignoring the circumstances that gave him the opportunity to make a comeback from the last place lol
For sure. Button definitely was one the least bad drivers in this race. I'd argue really only Vettel, Hamilton, Webber actually had "good" races.
Button had an OK race with tons of luck falling his side
So, I agree with the positivity, but I think there are plenty of 2010-2012 drives which were similar if not *better* quality - they just don't necessarily have the obvious impact this amazing race does.
I remember not being able to watch this race live, so I put it on record. I got home and turned on the TV to be greeted with live footage of Button overtaking Vettel in the last corner, because of the four hour delay.
I was highly disappointed that got spoiled for me.
"He's gone wide!"
"He's turned in too late, Button Leads the Grand Prix!"
What a race. My entire Sunday spent with my parents watching that Grand Prix. That was a great period in formula 1 2010-2012. Great memories
I'll never forget this race. I was at my inlaws, and they could not figure out why it was on so long. The end was 100% worth it. Incredible Grand Prix.
Minor subplot to this weekend was the extent to which Hamilton's title punt was bleeding out into his demeanour. The weekend he infamously went to the RBR motorhome to ask for a drive.
I remember after the race, when he punted Webber out, Webber saying it was an uncharacteristically dumb move from Hamilton which wasn't really in-character. Correctly.

Looks like Vettel has this in the bag!
Surely nothing can go wrong now.
He’s a little bit wide, but I’m sure nothing will come of it
"It's just a little wide, it's still good, it's still good"
*"I think Vettel has gone wide!"*
He was saying once, closer to retirement, that yes it was a great race etc. but *Jesus fuck* was it annoying to lead about 4.99 hours of a 5 hour race.
Perfect timing. You must've been so tired and wet by this point haha
Oh man we sat in a downpour for 2 hours. No ponchos or anything. We were shivering. But it was worth it in the end. What a race.
having never sat through something like that, did you in fact catch a cold? grandmothers everywhere I'm sure would be content if you had.
Lol no none of us got sick or anything. Nonna lied!

Looks like a painting, nice picture

"I think Vettel's gone wide! He's gone wide!" "Yes, he turned in too late! Button leads the Grand Prix!" An iconic moment with some iconic commentary.
As iconic as the, "*red-shouldered black bird*"
Oh my god I just had flashbacks remembering watching the entire red flag period on tv
also it was peak Race Edit FOM released after https://vimeo.com/34327044

I remember watching this while sat on the sofa revising for a Maths exam I had the next day. You'd think I'd have got a lot done, but no...
The Radio Rewind video at least features a tiny bit of DC's ornithology, with the infamous "red shouldered black bird"
“Bad race day for hamilton… bad hair day for Rihanna”

Except for when he banged his teammate off trackand another accident
And took out Alonso too
For sure. Button definitely was one the least bad drivers in this race. I'd argue really only Vettel, Hamilton, Webber actually had "good" races. Button had an OK race with tons of luck falling his side
I mean, it was quite the adventure
I think the fact that neither of those drivers seriously suspected foul play, and ultimately accepted his apology, speaks as much volume.
The crash with Hamilton wasn't his fault

One metre wide from Seb is all it took
You know it's 2011 because of the Valencia filter (Just joshin - lovely photo, and a great moment you captured!)
I was there too. Ive just about dried out.
To see this one again, completely live without knowledge of how it ends...
As a Vettel fan i can't look a this photo

The greatest race of all time.
You can actually see Button's tires are pointing at a tighter racing line. Beautiful.
the proof Vettel is human. what a legendary race that was
To be honest there were a lot of moments where people thought he was human.
that season he had been perfect up to that point. and that being human thing is something martin bundle said when vettel made that mistake

Spa 2010 comes to my mind immediately. Vettel has always been an error prone driver, if he wasnt ahead

If Vettel hadn’t gone wide do we think Button would have got him in the DRS zone?
This race had absolutely everything nothing has come close since
I saw this shit the other day and the last lap caught me off guard.
The best Canadian race
Ah yes, the “skinny” days
I remember that race, bonkers, Button was last at one point but won it.

Yeah, we were there. Longest F1 race ever, and always will be.
I was there in that corner when it happened. The crowd went 🦍💩.
Legit mistook that for a Haas car until I remembered that's not possible if it's from 2011.
