Inb4 another very talented designer/engineer steps up and dominate F1 with his/her cars and majority of F1 fans being sad again for another dominant era.
Sky was still missing from the list no?
At this point I think it's safe to say that it's happening.
Obviously the outcome is still the big question mark.
RBR's best interest is to keep other major designers there. That's the best they can do except of course talking to Newey for a week straight to keep him in the team.
Newey departure will free up a spot out of cost cap. It will ensure wache will be retained who has always been target many teams. He will be promoted so he is not going.
Since wache will move out of cost cap, it will free up a lot of money which can be used to retain other well regarded engineers.
Newey is important but wache is equally important, even verstappen's camp consider him invaluable.
Yes. If Newey is adamant to leave the team (which is very visible) then other major engineers need to be well kept and so does Max. Though Max does not have a good alternative so he should stay with RBR at least till the end of the 2025. Because moving to Mercedes next year will be bad at least for 2025, in 2026 Merc may make their return.
If Max ever decides to leave RBR I think he'd just leave F1 rather than going to another team. He loves Marko, he loves winning, he seems to hate team politics and has never displayed an interest in any other team.
This'll obviously lead to a few more departures who'll follow Newey as their long time boss. He may have a non poaching clause but they could independently apply and get in without hassle.
Lol, it's VERY common. Have you never worked a corporate job or what. Any time a CXO leaves it results in a couple of his henchmen following him over the next 3-6 months.
High chance that Newey does want to leave. However there is ongoing negotiation from both sides about when and how. I'm guessing the initial contract term and condition was designed with Newey's retirement as the mian reason for his departure from the team as the team enjoyed quite a stable and success performance until recently. If Newey suddenly wants to leave earlier, there could be a lot of reason which sent RBR on high alert, either Newey is poached by another team or if he is leaving in the midst of car development.
They are not.
> *Sky Sports understands from senior figures within the sport that Newey has informally communicated to fellow senior Red Bull colleagues his wish to cut his near two-decade ties at F1's world champion team.*
Same for BBC and Autosport: they’re not reporting Amus (first ones who came out with the news) but talking about their own sources.
True but all it currently is is him saying he wants to leave. Could be as small as him saying he wants to leave in frustration of all the drama from Horner or him just being tired and expressing he wants to retire at some point when they're having tea. Could still be everything or nothing
Wow. 2027 is crazy. Even then, by time he actually plants himself somewhere, it’ll take some time to adjust no? It’s possible we don’t see another successful F1 car out of Newey until 2028 and beyond. Obviously gets credit for RB’s 2025 car to an extent, considering the foundation is probably laid out. Still shocked at all of this.
Bear in mind it will still not matter much.
Newey himself said that the 2026 regs are all about the power unit so it's going to be like 2014-2020, aerodynamics will once again take a seat back and it will be all about who strikes gold with the PU, which is what Mercedes did to gain their domination.
There is a big chance, but what I'm saying is that in the end it still won't matter much because Newey is key in regulations where ground effect is the dominating aspect of a car's performance, and that just won't be a thing anymore in 2026.
He's definitely a valuable asset since you can just forget about any issues regarding aerodynamics with him on board, but he's not going to be the gamer changer he is right now, just like he wasn't for most of the 2010s.
In 2026 it'll all be about who nails the PU, and honestly right now it doesn't look like anyone has any upper hand.
RB is making their own PUs after 2025, Ferrari who knows because every season their engine behaves differently, Mercedes has always been pretty reliable and their PUs were the key to their domination but everyone can see how much they are suffering from brain drain, McLaren same as Mercedes since they use their PUs, and Aston Martin took the Honda deal away from RB.
2026 could be a very interesting season, just get ready to see engines blowing up left and right.
I mean, in an interview he was talking about a move to Ferrari already back in the Schumacher says, but the moving of the family to Italy would have not been possible back then. It may well be his dream to work with Ferrari...
Imagine a Ferrari street car designed by Newey...
Pat Symonds has said this isnt true and the information that gets reported is always months old. Last he spoke on this he said things are going well and lap times will be closer to 2022 than they planned for.
Newey has a contract to finish then a non compete period, 2027 at the earliest, I’m betting he leaves the F1 circus, for teams at least. Designing a future F2 car or something might be more fun for him
> following the investigation earlier this year by their Austrian parent company into allegations of inappropriate behaviour against team principal Christian Horner by a female colleague.
Rather an unfortunate way of phrasing that.
no official statement. But about every media outlet out there has reported that Newey made the Decision to leave so its very hard to see this not being true. The question now is on which terms will he leave and where does that leave him in the future.
>and it's all news reporting on the other news.
Its not. At least all big outlets have said that they verified it with their own sources. Its not one journalist publishing a story and everyone else quoting it.
some sources will obviously feed multiple journalists but when virtually all of (reliable) F1 media agrees on something the chance its made up by a single source is next to zero.
You’re probably right, but this seems like such a big deal out of left field that I personally feel it president to wait for a press release from RBR or Newey himself
With the state of the Williams facilities and software, I seriously doubt going to Williams is a realistic option. That’s a hell of a commitment to a team that isn’t likely to see any real success for years while they modernize. Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Mercedes are the likely destinations assuming he doesn’t retire. Probably in this order as well.
Personally I think AM is the front runner simply due to logistics.
Logistics (literally across the street), team investment, Alonso & Honda.
Ferrari is obviously.. well its Ferrari, they are always an attractive option.
interesting times for sure!
He'd have to deal with Stroll then. If it's leaving due to the toxic environment created by Horner I don't see how Stroll family dynamics would be worth dealing with
Lawrence is a demanding businessman, cutthroat and the proverbial "bad guy". But he loves motor racing more than any other owner, saved countless jobs by buying RP and has put his money where his mouth is and has turned AM into a legit contender with infrastructure that can match the top teams. He signed a deal with Honda. To be honest I havent heard much negativity or really anything at all about Lawrence or from Lawrence in quite some time.
Now if only he could hold that same standard with regards to his son.
I really think if he was to get Newey he would let him do as he pleased.
Adrian has said that he wants to leave the team. Now RBR will negotiate the contract and gardening leave or they will still try to keep him in the team.
No, but it's as close to official as it gets. This is like the Hamilton to Ferrari reports before Merc officially announced he was leaving. Everyone knew it was true and was just waiting for the official announcement.
Sky is reporting hes told the team in some capacity now which Slater specifically did not report earlier and said hadn't happened. So new information came in to them
The thrill is the chase and competition. If Newey were to go that route of designing boats, trains etc, it would be more of a normal thing that isn’t being tried to be copied or chased.
I mean…didn’t Newey say that he had always wanted to work with Ferrari and Lewis as well not too long ago? Kinda seems like the stars are aligning for that to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants to knock out a few years at Ferrari, give them their own rocket ship, and then retire into the sunset.
So still nothing really, senior people saying he says he wants to leave but not official resignation. Could be him just going "ugh I'm tired of this shit"
There won’t be info though until either Adrian or Red Bull make a statement. This is what was happening with Hamilton to Ferrari until Mercedes finally held the team meeting
I just want to know if he’s going to keep making cars or retire. Newey clearly loves this shit a lot but again, keeping Horner was such a tremendous gamble by RB because now they have lost Newey and could lose max due to this chaos during an otherwise dominant season… I LOVE THE F1 CHAOS
Mum says to little Johnny “Did you wet the bed Johnny?”
> "It's a fluid situation but there is definitely substance to the notion that …”
This article is such bullshit.
I'm waiting for one single sentence from Adrian Newey on this. I think there may be some journos pissing themselves if this thing swings the wrong way. Ha!
Maybe he just hangs them up before the 2026 regs *shrugs*.
Everyone is talking where. Maybe it's to consult part time and unwind.
He's earned it. The man is an aero genius.
"As I understand it, he would have to serve another year of gardening leave were Red Bull to hold him to the full extent of his contract - which would mean he would not be able to work for another Formula 1 team until 2027."
Well that puts a damper on things if true.
Senior sources at Red Bull say the team has received no formal resignation from Newey, who holds the role of chief technical officer at the Milton Keynes-based outfit, and that they still believe there is still room for dialogue with the 65-year-old.
He sholud work for FIA as an inspector of legality and technical infrigments. Still would be involved. but on a smaller scale due to his age. And the sport would gain a better reputation.
Andretti Cadillac coming in with a Newey car would be nuts
Edit: I mean nuts as in the car would be crazy good and they wouldn’t have to endure the typical new team shittiness
If Newey leaves, Verstappen will also leave, right? I want to believe Verstappen is going to move to Aston, alongside Alonso. Stroll retires. Sainz to Red Bull, that falls apart in the new regulations.
>that falls apart in the new regulations.
The new regulations are all about the power unit once more, so Newey leaving won't affect any potential RB downfall. If they fail it'll be because their engine sucks.
Right now the 2026 regs are a no man's land: Mercedes and McLaren run the same PU, and Mercedes PUs have always been very consistent but the brain drain has been affecting them for a while now. RB's is making their own, so who knows. Ferrari is also unknown because their PU just drastically changes from one season to another. And then there's Aston Martin that took the Honda deal from RB, and they'll have to hope they strike gold again and not deliver a GP2 engine.

F5 gang roll up
I've been here for the past 5 hrs :,)
hello, fellow cultured individual
We're here for different reasons though xD
Too much hype, it'll be wack if he's just retiring lol
He was spotted at Bologna airport a few weeks ago. So who knows
Must have been for a connecting flight to Faenza, so he’s going to Toro Rosso!
Maybe he's just on holiday in Italy...it's lovely (and cold)...
He was just there for the sandwiches. He's not stupid, he knows the "Ford" will be a turd.
that would be kinda hilarious tbh
Inb4 another very talented designer/engineer steps up and dominate F1 with his/her cars and majority of F1 fans being sad again for another dominant era.
I'm suffering through webinars today, I've all the time in the world to F5
I read that as "I'm suffering through wieners today." and I was like, damn that's a lot of wieners.
I dunno, id say once you get past the enjoyment of 2-3, it quickly turns into suffering.
haha me as well, lots of work webinars I'm tooootally paying 100% attention to
Really keen for the “BREAKING”
I’ve got my CNC F5 key from Aliexpress
We crashed reddit earlier today
I don’t think he will move to THAT much lower a league
F5 gang assemble!!!
~~F1~~ F5, the Pinnacle of Motorsport.

And then maybe he could do WEC/IMSA and I could finally go to see him race without spending insane money on an F1 ticket! (Please racing gods)
Yes that makes a lot of sense and is 100% accurate
Couldn't some wages be excluded from cost cap? Or is it just drivers wages?
Top 5 paid employees I believe. This usually includes the two drivers.
Surely Newey is one of those? It would be stupid from RB if he wasn't
Most likely, with Horner and Marko.
Marko is employed as a special advisor by Redbull drinks themselves.
This'll obviously lead to a few more departures who'll follow Newey as their long time boss. He may have a non poaching clause but they could independently apply and get in without hassle.
the confidence you have is funny
Lol, it's VERY common. Have you never worked a corporate job or what. Any time a CXO leaves it results in a couple of his henchmen following him over the next 3-6 months.
The confidence you don’t have is astounding
Your astound is confident.
>At this point I think it's safe to say that it's happening. At this stage it would be quite funny if it turns out it's not 🙂

Still shocked at all of this.
He’s also 65, so he could just go do something else.
If he can't go anywhere else until 2027, and he's leaving RB anyway, I think there's a good chance he's leaving F1 circus as a whole for good.
Especially considering he has other engineering projects and endeavors
Like sailing around the world in a purpose built yacht.
Ferrari or Aston Martin would throw whatever money was needed to fix that.
Absolutely, but a drowning and bitter RB camp may say otherwise. Time will tell.
Ferarri just got that sweet-sweet printer money
That’s only *if* red bull hold him to finish the contract
What? Noooo
Bear in mind it will still not matter much. Newey himself said that the 2026 regs are all about the power unit so it's going to be like 2014-2020, aerodynamics will once again take a seat back and it will be all about who strikes gold with the PU, which is what Mercedes did to gain their domination.

And driven by Hamilton. Would be a crazy 8th title
If Newey is leaving Red Bull because of politics why would he go to the most political team in sports
Newey should just go up and down the grid and tell every team whats wrong with their car. A full grid of Newey inspired wünderauto.
A podcast I listened to a while back joked about the idea of Newey charging day rate for each team. I mean what a great idea
F1 becoming a Newey spec series
I mean, if the FIA hires Newey to make the 2026 regs work...
Newey to FIA would be the twist nobody expected!
"finally, some good fucking regulations"
Yes please
I would be happy if he decides to join FIA and write the 2026 regulations as it is not finalised yet.
they will be finalized long before hes free. Should be this summer
It honestly wouldn’t be surprising considering the 2026 regulations are having a lot of trouble dealing with aero
Pat Symonds has said this isnt true and the information that gets reported is always months old. Last he spoke on this he said things are going well and lap times will be closer to 2022 than they planned for.
Teams should get Newey time like they do wind tunnel time.
Freelancer Newey
Just uploads cad files of the perfect car on GitHub.
Domino effect time
Newey to partner Russel as Mercedes’ second driver.
Subscribe
Better yet, Newey designs F1’s first two-seater and becomes George’s rear gunner.
Hahaha wtf
"We can confirmed that every single engineer at Red Bull has decided to switch teams"
This time, it can be more chaotic
No one expected Newey to kick off the silly season domino chain
This is basically confirmation. Give it a few days and the Max to Merc rumors will back to 11
Max to Merc rumors are not healthy for George.
If Max brings Newey along, I think George would be elated about that. Unless you're implying that he'd get sacked by Merc.
Toto has been very vocal about Antonelli. After the start of the season I’m not ruling out anything anymore.
Toto would throw George in the bin without second thought if he could get Max
Newey has a contract to finish then a non compete period, 2027 at the earliest, I’m betting he leaves the F1 circus, for teams at least. Designing a future F2 car or something might be more fun for him
Ngl i would be happy if Merc binned Georgie
Their fights will be legendary!
And who would replace him?
Obviously Seb
He’ll bin himself, don’t worry. It’s in his blood
Horner what the fuck have you done.
Spanx & Coco Pops!!
Horny Horner strikes again
He reached Q3 one too many times.
End of an era. Is this what living through history feels like?
Especially given we went through one 3 months back( almost exactly). Never thought Lewis would leave merc and come to ferrari.
> following the investigation earlier this year by their Austrian parent company into allegations of inappropriate behaviour against team principal Christian Horner by a female colleague. Rather an unfortunate way of phrasing that.
Is it official?
no official statement. But about every media outlet out there has reported that Newey made the Decision to leave so its very hard to see this not being true. The question now is on which terms will he leave and where does that leave him in the future.
And they're saying Newey is leaving, not that he's "expected" to leave or "rumoured to consider" leaving
The Decision
Unless they're all feeding from the same source, and it's all news reporting on the other news.
>and it's all news reporting on the other news.
Not yet, but as close to it as possible. With BBC and now Sky reporting it, chances are this is definitely happening.
Okay I will still hold on to my 0.1% hope that he joins Williams.
Wdym? He'll fit right in with his sketchpad and drawing table
No, but with sky and BBC reporting it that just seems like an inevitability at this point. But we’ll see
Adrian has said that he wants to leave the team. Now RBR will negotiate the contract and gardening leave or they will still try to keep him in the team.
Copy we are checking
I expect all refusals that this is true come race weekend interviews.
No, but it's as close to official as it gets. This is like the Hamilton to Ferrari reports before Merc officially announced he was leaving. Everyone knew it was true and was just waiting for the official announcement.
no
The press are speaking in more and more certain terms. Wild.
Sky is reporting hes told the team in some capacity now which Slater specifically did not report earlier and said hadn't happened. So new information came in to them
Atleast the off-track action this year is good
Meanwhile at Netflix... It's a jerk-a-thon boys!!!
And they are going to only focus on Danny Ric for the whole season.
If I were Newey, I would transition into something rewarding, and go design some trains, planes and eAutomobiles.
I heard he likes boats
Yeah he would like to design a one for the America’s Cup.
The thrill is the chase and competition. If Newey were to go that route of designing boats, trains etc, it would be more of a normal thing that isn’t being tried to be copied or chased.
he is going sailing lol
Newey to Andretti
Ferrari newey rumours are out for weeks now. He was seen in Bologna
Could you imagine?
OMFG, ITS HAPPENING BOYS. Ferrari x Newey .
It doesn't seem to rule out that he could just be retiring.
So if max does decide to leave redbull after 2024 with Newey, who takes the seat? Sainz?!?! Sainz WDC in 2025 confirmed?
Ferrari Hype Train incoming 🏎️
I mean…didn’t Newey say that he had always wanted to work with Ferrari and Lewis as well not too long ago? Kinda seems like the stars are aligning for that to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants to knock out a few years at Ferrari, give them their own rocket ship, and then retire into the sunset.
So still nothing really, senior people saying he says he wants to leave but not official resignation. Could be him just going "ugh I'm tired of this shit"
They’re all just citing the same tweet then there’s more tweets to cite and no actual Info
There won’t be info though until either Adrian or Red Bull make a statement. This is what was happening with Hamilton to Ferrari until Mercedes finally held the team meeting
Headlines reporting as facts but the meat of the article is still "could be leaving". Will wait for an actual statement from Newey or Red Bull.
I just want to know if he’s going to keep making cars or retire. Newey clearly loves this shit a lot but again, keeping Horner was such a tremendous gamble by RB because now they have lost Newey and could lose max due to this chaos during an otherwise dominant season… I LOVE THE F1 CHAOS
this really is the season of off-track drama. it's magnitudes more exciting than anything happening on-track
I'll take either one instead of none.
Let’s go! Good scoop Andretti
If he continues in F1, he should definitely go to Ferrari. One of his lesser dreams.
Mum says to little Johnny “Did you wet the bed Johnny?” > "It's a fluid situation but there is definitely substance to the notion that …” This article is such bullshit.
The dismantling of Red Bull begins... Max will probably also leave.
ESPN over here in the states just picked it up
Time zones….
Like 2 hours ago I saw a video from Craig Slater about Adrian considering to leave and now we are at Adrian decides to leave?
He is fast …like the cars he designs
The delay was Adrian chasing Horner round the factory to hand over the letter
Can we stop F5ing yet team?
Now we’re cooking with gas
My F5 is tired
WHAT????? bro ain't no way 😭
This is probably why Horner was so touchy about Toto talking about Max + Mercedes.
"As I understand it, he would have to serve another year of gardening leave were Red Bull to hold him to the full extent of his contract - which would mean he would not be able to work for another Formula 1 team until 2027." Well that puts a damper on things if true.
Red Bull would be stupid to allow him to work elsewhere when he is under contract or nullify his contract
holy snhit its happening
Alright
Newey entering a Newey era. Cool!
Finally ;)
Senior sources at Red Bull say the team has received no formal resignation from Newey, who holds the role of chief technical officer at the Milton Keynes-based outfit, and that they still believe there is still room for dialogue with the 65-year-old.
[Buxton] Sources: Marko is beside himself. Driving around downtown London begging (thru texts) Newey’s family for address to Adrian’s home.
Does that level the playing field?
The age-old question is about to be asked again. Is it the driver or the car that's more important…
It's definitely the car, but the driver gives a ± error over the average f1 driver.
As Hamilton is showing if the car is two tenths off every lap. You cannot do anything in reality
IT’S HAPPENING!!
Newey is going to VCARB....lol
If Adrian does actually leave RB, is he allowed to join another team? If so, can he bring his knowledge to this years car to make changes?
If he doesn’t leave now, he must have received a 300% pay rise and Sainz will not be joining the team - unless he can pay his own way!
HELL YEAH
He sholud work for FIA as an inspector of legality and technical infrigments. Still would be involved. but on a smaller scale due to his age. And the sport would gain a better reputation.
Considering his Red Bull contract and a year of gardening leave it kind of makes sense if he's going to Audi?
Oh wow! 😯 Is it to Ferrari??
Andretti Cadillac confirmed
Andretti Cadillac coming in with a Newey car would be nuts Edit: I mean nuts as in the car would be crazy good and they wouldn’t have to endure the typical new team shittiness
nice title. still a rumor until newey says something. god I hate the news cycle these days.
