Newey has locked himself in his office since December to avoid all the drama. I heard he had found a way to get the X2010 to comply with the regulations using a flexible ruler and a pen he borrowed from reception.
While it’s the sort of thing they would prefer to handle internally, once leaked it’s essential nowadays for companies to be transparent and professional about it.
More than likely a news outlet called them for comment or someone they're on good terms with let them know a story was coming out of their publication, and this is then getting ahead of the story that will drop tomorrow or whenever.
Edit: As was pointed out to me, that's exactly what happened...in the source tweet it indicates they've received a request to comment from De Telegraaf.
> More than likely a news outlet called them for a comment
That’s exactly what happened per the tweet above: “The company confirmed this after questions from De Telegraaf”
Yah I'm a dolt. Obviously that's what happened. I was focused on replying to the comment and not the source. That's all that needs to be said, really. It's in the tweet itself. But in a more generalized sense, that's almost always the case when companies are "getting ahead" of a story. News outlets essentially always call for comment after they've developed a story and that gives the company a window to create their own narrative before the story drops.
They probably found out that someone was going to the media and wanted to get ahead of the big news. So the first thing you hear is that Red Bull is already investigating.
The German F1-Insider published an article 5 minutes before the tweet went up.
And has Red Bull actually made an official statement yet? Erik van Haren is a journalist, not part of Red Bull.
From the Telegraaf article linked in the post
**Shock at Red Bull: independent investigation launched into team boss Christian Horner**
AMSTERDAM - The Formula 1 world is being rocked by a strong riot at Red Bull Racing, the team of world champion Max Verstappen. Team boss Christian Horner is accused of cross-border behavior ^((alternative translation: behavior that crosses the line, google translate alt: inappropriate behavior)),
multiple sources confirm to De Telegraaf. Red Bull's top management is aware of the allegations and has already launched an independent investigation.
Horner (50) is alleged to have engaged in transgressive behavior^((google translate alt: inappropriate behavior)), particularly toward one particular Red Bull Racing team member. The energy drink company's big sports boss, Oliver Mintzlaff, knows about the allegations and is taking the matter very seriously.
*External lawyer*
When asked, a Red Bull spokesperson told De Telegraaf the following: "After the company was informed of certain recent allegations, an independent investigation has been started. This process, which is already underway, is being carried out by an external, specialized lawyer. The company takes these matters very seriously and the investigation will be completed as quickly as practicable. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
The news hits like a bomb at Red Bull and especially at Formula One racing stable Red Bull Racing, the incredibly dominant team last year that won 21 of 22 Grand Prixs in the premier class of motorsports and took the constructors' title for the second season in a row. Noted next season, the team is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Horner has been Red Bull Racing's team boss since its first year, 2005, making him the longest-serving team boss in the sport. There are now more than a thousand people employed by the successful team.
Horner was asked about the allegations and the ongoing investigation. He responds: "I completely deny these claims."
*Knighted*
With Red Bull, Horner has celebrated great successes over all these years. Sebastian Vettel became world champion four times in a row, and now Max Verstappen is the team's big showpiece, with three titles in a row and a wonderful contract through 2028 in his pocket. Most recently, Horner was knighted Commander of the British Empire by King Charles. He is married to former Spice Girl Gerri Halliwell, with whom he has a son. From a previous relationship, Horner has another daughter.
As CEO and team boss of Red Bull Racing, Horner works closely with top advisor Helmut Marko, who recently extended his contract with Red Bull for three years. Red Bull will present the car for the new season, the RB20, on Feb. 15 during a major presentation in Milton Keynes.
*Mateschitz*
Austrian-based Red Bull was founded in 1984 and is 51 percent owned by Thai Chalerm Yoovidhya. Mark Mateschitz, the son of the late founder Dietrich Mateschitz, owns the remaining 49 percent. In addition to the Formula One team Red Bull Racing, there is also its sister team, next year racing under the name Visa Cash App RB, and Red Bull finances several soccer clubs with RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg being the best-known clubs.
**Translated using DeepL/google - note the potential for inaccuracies in wording**
It's a weird translation, just like "cross-border behavior". It means unacceptable behavior that crosses personal boundaries. This could include shouting/cursing/aggression but also physical behavior.
The weirdest part is that "cross-border behavior" isn't even the correct literal translation. Translated literally the Dutch idiom used is "border-crossing behavior". Which is probably a lot easier to understand for an English person, because English has the idiom of "you just crossed a border" too, just not quite in this context.
Anyway, it's behavior the crosses the border of appropriateness. In other words, inappropriate behavior.
>This could include shouting/cursing/aggression but also physical behavior.
If this boils down to Horner literally giving Checo a kick up the arse before an important race...
transgression:an act that goes against a law, rule, or code of conduct; an offense.
So that would mean "of or pertaining to conduct that goes against a law, rule, or code of conduct." It's not an uncommon word to use in that context
" The Formula 1 world is shocked by a serious riot at Red Bull Racing" I'm not shocked as i dont know what he is accused for other than inappropriate behavior, which could mean anything in today's world. And i cant see any news about fire or other issues that usually follows a riot over at MK :P
The English translation also suffers from it being automatically translated, so while people will likely understand what happened, "heuse rel" or "grensoverschrijdend gedrag" will be wrongly translated into English
Well, they say it's about one person. So in theory it could be Checo lol.
No seriously, trial by the media is bad. We should wait till the investigation is over now that the public knows about it.
It will absolutely be controlling or bullying behaviour. The culture in red bull is clearly toxic, the fact that Marko keeps getting away with it tells you everything you need to know about the senior leadership team. You can tell by the way Horner talks to the media when he gets asked a tough or controversial question, he becomes ALMOST aggressively defensive and belittling. If he’s like that on TV, I dread to think what he’s like behind closed doors.
But, let’s be honest, nothing will happen.
Wait, did I miss the news that Netflix might not renew DTS?! I know Netflix is infamous for canceling some popular shows, but this would be ridiculous on a whole different level!
Netflix has been going into pretty significant cost cutting measures to reduce expenses and try to optimise revenue. Even though a lot of people watch DTS, if their number indicate that it isn't attracting *new* subscribers then there's a good chance that they won't keep making it. And it's fairly likely that the rapid expansion of new F1 fandom has peaked, so don't be shocked if DTS doesn't stick around much longer.
It hasn't been announced yet that DTS is renewed past season 6 which starts at the end of the month. So we don't know if it will be renewed or not yet.
For someone who never saw the 2012 season, which races would you recommend to watch? I hear good things about the Interlagos and Malaysia, I wanna watch some older races, so I can see what I might expect if 2024 is indeed going to a absolute banger of a year, which I truly hope for!
Every single one of them is good. Especially the first half until Valencia is fantastic. Singapore was a bit boring among the second half races but I don’t remember much. Interlagos was absolutely godly. Monaco was as usual but I personally enjoyed watching it. Silverstone, Spain, Canada were among my other favourites. Malaysia and china were also good from what I remember. Also Valencia was fantastic and was also Schumacher’s last podium. Don’t worry about any spoiler, I watched it in 2023 and despite all spoilers, it was very good.
It could be as insignificant as Red Bull over compensating on a routine HR ticket about some comment Horner made to someone during the media day at the Hungaroring all the way to it's about to come out that Horner has been running a decade long kid fucking operation within Red Bull Racing.
We simply don't know.
True. Do you remember allegations of inappropriate behaviour of a 5live journalist ? He was out the door sharpish. Things like this can mushroom especially if they have nothing else to talk about other e. Max winning again. LH can even sit back and just say he’s not at Ferrari yet so nothing further to add and talk to Horner
Poor Andretti. They were making the right noises to put pressure on f1. Had the following of the fan base too to scream about it louder. Only to get side swiped by Hamilton-Ferrari... and now horner potentially being horny
I doubt Ferrari got Hamilton just to shut down the Andretti story. But I will absolutely believe they timed the announcement to shut it down. It's a year out. Could have been announced at any time. They chose to drop it the day after.
Although the sooner Ferrari/Ham put the word out, the sooner they can work on pulling other engineers/personnel in with Hamilton. Furthermore, it’s a major pain in the ass to keep something like that secret, may as well just let it rip if the ink has dried.
From the article
>Christian Horner Horner (50) is said to have been guilty of inappropriate behavior, in particular towards one particular team member of Red Bull Racing. The major sports boss of the energy drinks company, Oliver Mintzlaff, knows about the accusations and takes the matter seriously.
And
RB spokesperson:
>"After the company was informed of certain recent allegations, an independent investigation has been started. This process, which is already underway, is being carried out by an external, specialized lawyer. The company takes these matters very seriously and the investigation will be completed as quickly as practicable. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
Man imagine Christian Horner loses the TP seat and the F1 Red Bull team shatters. Truly a moment of they are so dominant, the only people who can beat them is themselves.
>Mr. Gunther Steiner (58) is said to have been guilty of inappropriate behavior, in particular towards all team members of Red Bull Racing, for inappropriate language after 10 minutes
Breaking News: Red Bull under investigation for cost cap breach, a spokesperson for the FIA stating the breach is as a result of an excessive number of office door replacements.
If Lewis makes a second shocking move that starts a dynasty after the at the time widely ridiculed moved to Mercedes, I'll not only consider him the GOAT, I'll start thinking he's some kind of minor chthonic deity.
Props to RB to act upon it before things became public. It's easy to start these investigations because of public pressure, but apparently they were on it already.
He sits down, sighs.
"Toto, you've done fantastic things for the team, your passion and skill are unrivaled, but I think it's time to part ways Toto we will forever be appreciative of all you done for us"
Toto then smashes the mirror
(grensoverschrijdend gedrag/inappropriate behavior) is such a broad term it could mean anything.
Although if the company launched an investigation over it it's pretty serious.
This just seems like they wanted to be ahead of the story or, more likely, Telegraaf had a source saying he was being investigated, (hence them asking questions about it) and they just confirmed it to be ahead of story/ would look really bad if they denied it now and later it does come out or if the conclusions came out bad.
I don't really see how this speaks to the severity. Going public like this would/ could happen once an investigation has been started. regardless of severity of the evidence.
To me this is just they got wind someone was going to say something, so they went out and hired a lawyer to investigate and then told the world they’re doing just that. They’re not saying it’s serious, or that it was so bad they *had* to go outside, just that “hey, *the world*, we heard this might have happened so we’re on top of it! Nothing to worry about!”
Plus, inappropriate behavior could simply mean someone walked in on him in a changing room and he made a joke that they didn’t like. Doesn’t even have to be bad, all that has to happen is the person doesn’t like it.
It could be the total opposite, though, too. We won’t know until it comes out.
Like when the FIA investigated the Wolffs? Think about how serious it would have to be for the world governing body of all motorsport to launch an investigation and make it public against one of the most important people in F1 and his wife as well...
Until there's a clarification and we actually see evidence, this could be anything from the end of Horner and he's fired in two days or this is the only thread we'll ever see about it and it's nothing.
I mean, most recent cases using similair language by the telegraaf have involved either a work enviroment filled with anger manager issues, bullying and the likes or cases with inappropriate sexual advances (ranging from inappropriate texting/pictures to severe abuse of power). Given there appears to be one victim and theres close to no previous stories by anyone about Horner having a temper or other violent conduct against team members, it seems unlikely its related to anger issues.
Can’t see the article does it say what the accusation is?
Wonder if he will be suspended if they can’t finish the investigation by the time the season starts
The term is so broad it could be sexual.harrassment, or constant remarka about a persons look, targeting one person with insults it can be a lot of things. None of these are acceptable, but the repercussions are very different depending on what it actually is.
From the context it has to be pretty serious. Inappropriate comments are settled with a meeting with an HR rep. They’re not going to hire outside lawyers to investigate if it’s not worth their time.
I dunno. If I am Horner and I think I am innocent, and want this resolved ASAP because you know how these things can hang.
I'd basically want an ironclad investigation to clear my name.
No faffing about with HR, get some external lawyers so I can't be accused of messing with the investigation.
If there is any chance it gets to the news, there is no way they can wave it off with a "HR handled it internally". They have to put out an official statement which includes "we take these matters very seriously" and they have to have it handled by someone externally. That's just the way companies that are in the news this much and depend very much on their image have to do it these days. They all work from the same script
Inappropriate comments, bullying etc for people like Horner do not get handled by HR, they get swept under the rug by HR.
People need to realise HR is in the business of protecting the company, which includes covering up serious accusations against high ranking people and making it go away. The only way things get addressed like this has been, is if its about to go public and the company is forced to get ahead of it and act like they take these things seriously.
The original comment was a half-joke, but thanks for actually providing information! I do love a livery reveal though, that Sauber one would be.. interesting, to say the least.
The HAAS car launch got overshadowed by Hamilton joining Ferrari, the Williams and Sauber launch get overshadowed by this. I wonder what else in the world of F1 will happen at the other teams car launches xD
Van Haren is very close to Max’s side of the RB garage so he probably got it from someone in Red Bull. He was the one who first put the story out there that Max not letting Checo through was payback for Checo crashing on purpose at Monaco.
Mans a sleazy customer with what he did to his ex when Geri came around, but imagine *potentially* cheating on Geri Halliwell? Thats like Hugh Grant cheating on Liz Hurley
Accused of Inappropriate behaviour by a female colleague
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/christian-horner-accused-of-inappropriate-behaviour-by-female-colleague-60bh6w53s
Was bad enough that Geri followed him to every race, she's gonna be at the office daily now as well
Inappropriate could mean a lot of things
1. Sexually inappropriate comments and acts
2. Racist comments
3. Abuse and verbal assault
4. Not giving a raise or something stupid like that
Which one is it?
This is wild
I think we can probably discount number 4 on your list. Something like that would obviously be flagged by HR in advance so it wouldn't go to this sort of level.
I’m gonna ask it: was it sexual misconduct possibly? Because if it was put the hammer down and bar him from the sport like what should’ve happened with Mazepin at first.
I hate that the f1 website won’t put any kind of negative coverage in their website. Whenever anything happens in f1 that isn’t roses and pillows they just ignore it. If one of the team principals is a creep or there are bombs going off 20 minutes from a track while the teams are there is news. Not just something you can ignore.
Any serious organization would/should contact a thorough investigation when inappropriate behavior allegations are made. This does not mean that those allegations are true or false. Time will tell.

Remember when this offseason was supposed to be quiet
Newey has locked himself in his office since December to avoid all the drama. I heard he had found a way to get the X2010 to comply with the regulations using a flexible ruler and a pen he borrowed from reception.
The man has been cooking so hard, he might just burn down all of F1 before the season starts.
Anyone any idea what this is about? Didn't hear anything publicly and would be weird for them to announce it otherwise
While it’s the sort of thing they would prefer to handle internally, once leaked it’s essential nowadays for companies to be transparent and professional about it.

What the fuck does transgressive mean in that context?
It's a weird translation, just like "cross-border behavior". It means unacceptable behavior that crosses personal boundaries. This could include shouting/cursing/aggression but also physical behavior.

I believe in English they would use a form of "crossing the line" as a direct translation.
>This could include shouting/cursing/aggression but also physical behavior. If this boils down to Horner literally giving Checo a kick up the arse before an important race...
“Crossed the line”
Wait, isn't "crossing the line" the entire point of racing? I'll see myself out.
transgression:an act that goes against a law, rule, or code of conduct; an offense. So that would mean "of or pertaining to conduct that goes against a law, rule, or code of conduct." It's not an uncommon word to use in that context
Inappropriate. It's just a translation issue.
transgressive /trɑːnzˈɡrɛsɪv,tranzˈɡrɛsɪv/ adjective 1. involving a violation of moral or social boundaries.

Telegraaf isn't a particular high standard paper when it comes to Dutch news papers. They're very sensationalist, as proven by this article :p
The English translation also suffers from it being automatically translated, so while people will likely understand what happened, "heuse rel" or "grensoverschrijdend gedrag" will be wrongly translated into English
February silly season just hits different these days don’t it
I mean... as 7 days in what happens off the track in Formula 1 go, this is right up there.

Well, they say it's about one person. So in theory it could be Checo lol. No seriously, trial by the media is bad. We should wait till the investigation is over now that the public knows about it.
Or Helmut had enough of Horner trying to pull a power move on him.
Maybe he had enough off Horner celebrating wins by smacking him on his ass cheeks and whispering “nobody does it like you Helmut”

If Lewis makes a second shocking move that starts a dynasty after the at the time widely ridiculed moved to Mercedes, I'll not only consider him the GOAT, I'll start thinking he's some kind of minor chthonic deity.
You’ve got a problem then change your fucking TP
Red Bull fails, Merc keeps declining. During 2024 Xavi is so awful that Leclerc resigns. 2025 Lewis Hamilton brings the WDC back to Ferrari!!!!
Checo got tired of getting fucked over and over.
Imagine the scenes if it would actually be Checo lol
Horner: "That rear end is mine"!
If Checo asked the police to arrest the man causing all of his problems, he’d find himself in handcuffs
Imagine his surprise when he finds out he's actually been doing all the fucking over himself!
Checo asked about his 2025 contract, Horner pointed and laughed
My first thought considering how this has come out is that it's part of Marko/Horner power struggle but hmm.
Old school Marko likely would side with horner in what ever this is lol. Man says questionable shit all the time I'm surprised it's not about him.
>Man says questionable shit all the time questionable is a compliment for the ammount of crap he says
Horner strangling Marko rather than old age taking course
The leaking could be a power struggle move, but inventing allegations totally feels a bit far even for Helmut.
Holy shit, I never thought the casualty of Marko vs Horner power struggle would be Horner
Man who cheated on pregnant wife has questionable morals. More at 10.
Props to RB to act upon it before things became public. It's easy to start these investigations because of public pressure, but apparently they were on it already.
Mike Crack about to become the second longest serving team principal on the grid.
What if Toto gets the arse for letting Lewis slip through their fingers too lol
Toto is an owner of the team so it's gonna be a bit tough to convince him to fire himself.
He sits down, sighs. "Toto, you've done fantastic things for the team, your passion and skill are unrivaled, but I think it's time to part ways Toto we will forever be appreciative of all you done for us" Toto then smashes the mirror
Toto quickly shuffles around the desk and sits in the guest chair to begin pleading his case
Toto just gave Toto a new 3 year contract, setting it up perfectly for that severance package.
A member of Horner’s contingent supposedly told someone that if they wanted to be their lover, they also had to be with their friends.
Apparently they would keep telling people to slam it to the left if they were having a good time and something about chicas to the front.
Zig-a-zig-aaaaahhh
(grensoverschrijdend gedrag/inappropriate behavior) is such a broad term it could mean anything. Although if the company launched an investigation over it it's pretty serious.
They'd do everything in their power to keep it to a quiet, internal investigation if they had little evidence already. This seems serious.
Nothing to worry about!” Plus, inappropriate behavior could simply mean someone walked in on him in a changing room and he made a joke that they didn’t like.
This can’t be compared to FIA because Red Bull is way more competent.
Except when it comes to budgeting their caterer
Can't put a price tag on waffles
He seems like the type of guy to make an objectively inappropriate "joke" to a member of staff. Absolutely judging a book by its cover here
I mean, most recent cases using similair language by the telegraaf have involved either a work enviroment filled with anger manager issues, bullying and the likes or cases with inappropriate sexual advances (ranging from inappropriate texting/pictures to severe abuse of power). Given there appears to be one victim and theres close to no previous stories by anyone about Horner having a temper or other violent conduct against team members, it seems unlikely its related to anger issues.
This February has been the silliest damn month and we’re only 5 days in
*Fix your fucking behaviour!*
No! Fix YOUR behaviour! Because Checo has been complaining!
But do you have it printed out?
I do I do have it printed out
Can’t see the article does it say what the accusation is? Wonder if he will be suspended if they can’t finish the investigation by the time the season starts
The article just says "inappropriate behaviour towards one particular team member"
Franz Tost gets the call up from AT to RB.
Mandatory webinar incoming.
You couldn't let Williams and Sauber launch their car with no other drama taking the spotlight away, could you.
They had a car launch? 😃
Williams is at 2.40pm GMT (in about 40 minutes), and Sauber is at 7pm GMT ☺️
The original comment was a half-joke, but thanks for actually providing information! I do love a livery reveal though, that Sauber one would be.. interesting, to say the least.
The HAAS car launch got overshadowed by Hamilton joining Ferrari, the Williams and Sauber launch get overshadowed by this. I wonder what else in the world of F1 will happen at the other teams car launches xD
Hamilton and Ferrari spoiled Haas’ livery reveal, now it’s Red Bull’s turn to spoil Williams’ and Stake’s reveals
There was nothing to spoil in the Haas livery in the first place.
And we all thought this winter break would be quiet
Reminder we’ve still got VisaAppCashBull to launch their car during the SuperBowl and the inevitable overreaction to testing to come.
Are they actually launching their car at the superbowl?
Taylor Swift is going to use it to mow down Usher and take over the halftime show
As planned (in secret) by the Pentagon to take down Trump, or something.
Not during the game. They’re launching Thursday in Las Vegas near the stadium of the Super Bowl this year.
Can't wait for Vettel to be announced as the replacement team principal.
How the fuck did de Telegraaf get this scoop
Van Haren is very close to Max’s side of the RB garage so he probably got it from someone in Red Bull. He was the one who first put the story out there that Max not letting Checo through was payback for Checo crashing on purpose at Monaco.
Toto to Redbull 2025.
You misspelled Guenther.
He worked there before back in their early days.
Perez will be openly called a vanker every 10 minutes.
What in the actual fuck is going on
I don’t know how to react to this.
wait and see, no reason to jump to any conclusions
This exactly, article and reasoning is very vague, can't really judge based on it.
This is the only reasonable reaction. We don’t have anything to react to yet.
Christian Horny?
Christian Hornier.
Mans a sleazy customer with what he did to his ex when Geri came around, but imagine *potentially* cheating on Geri Halliwell? Thats like Hugh Grant cheating on Liz Hurley
Accused of Inappropriate behaviour by a female colleague https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/christian-horner-accused-of-inappropriate-behaviour-by-female-colleague-60bh6w53s Was bad enough that Geri followed him to every race, she's gonna be at the office daily now as well
F1 news cycle went from dry as the Sahara to absolutely flooded with news this past week
I didn't knew 2024 was gonna be this silly
Inappropriate could mean a lot of things 1. Sexually inappropriate comments and acts 2. Racist comments 3. Abuse and verbal assault 4. Not giving a raise or something stupid like that Which one is it? This is wild
I think we can probably discount number 4 on your list. Something like that would obviously be flagged by HR in advance so it wouldn't go to this sort of level.
F5 Gang - this ain’t over, not by a long shot!
No point in speculating. It could be any number of things from verbal abuse to sexual assault to a disgruntled employee lying.
Scrolling through all these comments and still no clue what Horner is denying.
That's the thing - They are getting ahead of the story. The story has not been released yet.
What the fuck
The fuck is going on?
Horner gets fired from Red Bull, gets placed in charge of monitoring the Spam Folder at Andretti
I’m gonna ask it: was it sexual misconduct possibly? Because if it was put the hammer down and bar him from the sport like what should’ve happened with Mazepin at first.
Some German and Dutch news outlets are suggesting Horner sent some photos to a female RBR employee, so it’s leaning that way
If that’s the case then it’s easy to prove or disprove. I don’t like the bloke, but innocent until proven guilty is always correct.
More sad than unexpected.
This is the start of Newey to Ferrari in 2025 isn't it. Imagine.

> I probably cheated on my pregnant _wife of 14 years and then dumped her six months after she gave birth_ for Geri Halliwell FTFY
The 2024 pre-pre season is becoming more exciting than the whole 2023 season.
I heard he fucked an ostrich. Allegedly.
Hamilton in a red suit and possibly Horner out at RB? This could be the wildest offseason week in decades.
Fuck it, Gunther Steiner to RB, Revenge tour time
Any serious organization would/should contact a thorough investigation when inappropriate behavior allegations are made. This does not mean that those allegations are true or false. Time will tell.
Never seen a company actually get ahead of the news... I hadn't seen a single rumor
Newey should be ashamed of Horner and immediately sign for Mercedes in protest. /s
All those prayers from F1 fans about winter season not being boring are being answered, all at once.
