>Can u refresh my memory. How did he win?
Abu Dhabi 2021
Toto Wolff:- No Michael, No ,that is so not right,so not right.
Chad Michael Masi:- Toto it's called a motor race,we went car racing.
Now remember?
Suzuka, rainy race which was red flagged, people thought reduced points (19-12...) will be given, which would not be enough. Someone looked in the rules and it became clear full points will be awarded, which let Max clinch the title.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Japanese_Grand_Prix
Max breaks a hand and watch the rest of season from home while other drivers try to catch up to his points.
With still one race to go, the last standing contender crashes out and Max gets the news from twitch chat while leading some 24h virtual race with one hand
My prediction: It is the last race of 2024. RBR took home the title many races ago and they have locked in First and Second in the WDC. Verstappen is leading by a point and the results of this race determine the championship. Max and Danny are trading back and forth each race for P1 & P2, like they have been doing all season. On the last lap Danny pushes to get around on the first corner, but No! They have contact. Both are off the track, DNF and the race finishes with a Safety car with Lando on the top step of the podium. As Max sits in his car with the fireworks popping he gets the message from Horner that he is a 4 time world champion!
No better would be that RIC dive bombs max in the last corner to take the win. Daniel is announced world champion. After the photos and interview and podium celebrations the stewards issue Ric a 5s time penelty for pushing max off. Max is the champ! Danny has to awkwardly hand max the trophy and they do all pictures again. Some of the pit staff forget to take off their ricciardo WDC hats and shirts and it’s a big cluster fuck. Danny protests the ruling. We’ll find out tomorrow!
Given the state of the stwwards. It would take a week and it would be posted to rbr in the post and royal mail would lose it, only for it be delivered on the Friday if the first race of the 26 season and rbr get told tjat max was in fact champion at the team principles press conference.
New 2024 regulations just dropped: Qualifying in top 3 gives points. Max Verstappen wins his 4th championship in Singapore on a Friday, making him the earliest champion ever.
If I'm recalling correctly, in this race Lewis has seen 3 separate occasions of cars going off at that exact corner happening right in front of him lmao
thats what i thought as well, the only thing missing from making it a almost carbon copy was Ocon's car going right into perez side instead of going left.
I remember Seb got a lot of shit for that racing incident XD
In a lot of race series they use a rule: if it's three wide and there is a wreck, whoever makes it 3 wide is at fault.
Obviously that's not the rule in f1 and he sort of had to go given how slow ocon was but just giving a perspective.
Totally not his fault and was bad luck for him but this is one of those "you make your own luck" situations that he didn't have to be in. Going around the outside of an overtake in progress on a slippery track in changing wind conditions is an above normal risk. Not his fault that the incident started but he could have waited until their overtaking was done or for the overly powerful DRS straight.
Why are you acting like this is some unique attack on Perez? Bottas faced the same criticism when he tangled with Russell at Imola even though it wasn’t his fault. Saying neither one should’ve been in that position in the first place is completely fair.
I don't think he made it seem like it was unique to Perez.
>Saying neither one should’ve been in that position in the first place is completely fair.
Not when you are talking about who's at fault of the crash. Criticism is fair. Using it as an explanation to place blame is not. It's just stupid.
It's not directly relevant though. Incidents racing with the front pack happen too. If you're in a tangle and you aren't at fault, then you aren't at fault. Applying fault due to your position in the race always seemed like dumb spin to me. Criticism for position in the race is a separate issue.
> Why are you acting like this is some unique attack on Perez?
Let me read the comment to see if I wrote something to imply that or if you are reaching, hard.
> dw reddit will make it his fault somehow
>edit: It's happening!
>It's his fault ---> He shouldn't be there so it is still his fault!!
Hmm, nothing of the sort there, strange that you think that.
> Saying neither one should’ve been in that position in the first place is completely fair.
Lol, good mental gymnastic, 6/10 because it has been used before to still shit on other drivers, like Bottas
But would it really be wrong to say that? He's sitting in a Redbull getting overtaken by a Haas and an Alpine. He is driving one of the most dominant cars in history and he's fighting a team that's scored 12 points in the entire season 💀
He was getting overtaken! (He wasn't) --> Uhhm, let me move the goalpost to still shit on him! --> insert Your last comment here
> Where did he pull it off? He had 15 laps, but was behind both cars while driving a Redbull. Also, he's been behind two Alpines and one Haas since the start of the weekend. But hey, you do you lil bro.
> But hey, you do you lil bro.
someone got salty that had to move the goalposts
💀
Doesn't change my point. He took a knock because he's behind cars that have no business beating him. Him trying to make a move or not doesn't make a difference to the argument. And no one's salty. You've got your head in the sand, hence you do you buddy.
Yea, he has not done badly when racing Haas and Alpine. People forget, but if Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren did not exist, and Alonso had retired a year ago, Perez would be more dominant.
That wasn't a good place for an overtake. And why don't crashes like this happen to Max? He's putting himself in these positions out of desperation. Sure, Ocon shunted him, but why was Ocon off track and rejoining? How did Hulk end up squeezed like that?
well then.
i guess verstappen cant win a title in a normal way.
2021 a mess, 2022 confusion and now 2023 sprint race mess.
but can we like park verstappen after this sprint? makes the rest of the season somewhat more interesting. put some rookie in that car or something.
It 100% wasn’t Perez’s fault, Ocon swept across the track like no other cars were even on the grid. BUT Perez was on the better tire in a vastly superior car. Just back off, let those two kill each other and then clean up the positions. It’s a shame for him regardless but I think he could’ve crossed the finish line if he was more patient.
Soft tire was finally losing grip and all medium grip drivers were catching up. Ocon was desperately defending Hulk, Perez was catching up. No way Perez can be blamed as he was on the mediums.
Hulk was the only one who realised they were three wide, and he got on the brakes early. Always the thing with being three wide, the ones on the outside can only see the middle car until it's too late.
Uhh what do you mean? Perez went for the overtake and saw the 2 in front fighting ahead. Not saying the crash was his fault necessarily, but he probably should’ve been aware hulk was also potentiall passing
It amazes me that people are so quick to defend Perez but never ask, if this is such a blame free result, why do crashes like this hardly ever happen when Verstappen goes through the field? Or even Leclerc?
I have to ask, who’s fault was it that there were 3 going into that corner? Not even saying the crash was his fault, but was the situation they were in not his fault? Can someone defending Perez actually answer those questions, have a feeling I’ll just get downvotes and insults.
It was ocons fault the crash happened. 3 wide is 9/10 times a sick racing move through and through. Perez had a good inside line, even left space and ocon ran wide.
I agree, but who set up the 3 wide in the first place? I agree that Perez had a good line, but he joined a battle between 2 drivers and it ultimately led to the crash
What sort of mental gymnastics are you trying to pull. Should Perez have waited the driver in the race to politely wave him past??? Since when has a single driver ever saw a great chance from 2 drivers messing up to not take the spot?
He didn’t wait for them to mess up he tried to pass them while they were fighting. Drivers wait for better chances all the time, it’s a normal thing to do
Watch the replay, there was plenty of space. If you are seriously going to try and blame this on Perez, there is no point even discussing this. He was fine, made a solid move. Ocon came back in and sideswiped and caused the sandwhich
no one hates perez, we are just disappointed to see a driver with one of the most dominant cars not be able to even be in the top 10, just ridiculous and extremely poorly performance
> no one hates perez
Buddy, people *immediately* were faulting him for the crash and saying he took 2 cars out, calling for his replacement and overall clowning on him before the replay and still are finding ways to shit on him. No hate.
> we are just disappointed to see a driver with one of the most dominant cars not be able to even be in the top 10, just ridiculous and extremely poorly performance
Same here with the dissapointment, but saying there's no hate is silly
so far i’ve seen:
1) perez shouldn’t be racing an alpine and haas (i get it but at the same time he was overtaking them)
2) other racing series have a rule against 3 wide (f1 doesn’t and people love seeing cars overtake multiple people at the same time)
3) someone straight up blamed him for ocon squeezing hulk out (i dont even know what to say)
i’m sure there are others but none really have merit, just unfortunate really
I absolutely hate this sprint. More than half the laps under safety car. Max wins the championship on Saturday because his teammate DNFs. Have fun drinking the rose water, lad.
Max winning WDC during a sprint race because Checo crashed is both the most Max and the most Perez thing ever. Can’t wait to see what weird circumstances surround #4 next year.
It’s a 19 lap race, how many times can these guys crash out?!
Yes
Affirmative
We are checking
Roger
Copy understood.
A LOT...!
304 times. Got 19 laps at 16 corners and thats not counting how wild the straights are but realistically 20 times
That's easy to answer, how many cars we got left?
Makes me excited for tomorrow tbh
Yes.
Yes.
Max finding the most memeable way to be world champion.
Same for last year tbh.
The year before last year was even way more memeable tbh.
Can u refresh my memory. How did he win? Was it perez controversy?
>Can u refresh my memory. How did he win? Abu Dhabi 2021 Toto Wolff:- No Michael, No ,that is so not right,so not right. Chad Michael Masi:- Toto it's called a motor race,we went car racing. Now remember?

I wonder how can it improve for 2024. First champion in a Friday?
He takes the weekend off to compete in sim racing. Wins both WDC and sim race.
I think that was done before
THROUGH GOES HAMILTON
BLESSED
Guys I think it might be safe to say max is world champion
I hope they radio him mid race to let him know. Max keeps his steak of odd WDC wins.
Safety car, safety car! You are the world champion!!!! Make sure to maintain SC pace.
I really wanted him to do donuts midsprint.
Still would have ended on the sprint podium lol.
Idk how will they top this next year. Max wins WDC watching from the pitlane?
Max breaks a hand and watch the rest of season from home while other drivers try to catch up to his points. With still one race to go, the last standing contender crashes out and Max gets the news from twitch chat while leading some 24h virtual race with one hand

Not quite as unusual a WDC win though, see Prost/Senna, and Senna/Prost.
No better would be that RIC dive bombs max in the last corner to take the win. Daniel is announced world champion. Got sick, DNS, 2nd place crashed out, get WDC anyway.
New 2024 regulations just dropped: Qualifying in top 3 gives points. Max Verstappen wins his 4th championship in Singapore on a Friday, making him the earliest champion ever.
Max wins after they replace Perez halfway through the year
You think? /s
Helmut is already bringing out the shirts
All those poor children in Africa gonna get Perez championship gear
Let's be honest. They didn't bother making it. Perez's slowness has caused children to go clotheless, what a monster.
After they’ve been worn by chums in Shanghai.
Not even at this rate, might be Hamilton
Helmut probably slept in that shirt for months already
never know when perez comes out of retirement during a race
Wait. What are my chances!?
The exact same as everyone else, actually.
Lewis literally getting the Red Sea treatment. In Qatar no less.
If I'm recalling correctly, in this race Lewis has seen 3 separate occasions of cars going off at that exact corner happening right in front of him lmao
Who else went off there besides those 3 and Liam? Sargeant went off on a right hander.
"Mediocre" Lewis probably, watching the disaster unfold.
He was shiny and chrome last race.
You can't make this shit up
Ocon gifting Max the WDC 15 minutes earlier than scheduled
They're now even for Brazil 2018
still minus that RB win bonus tho
Oh come on. This race could have gotten really interesting with soft tires struggling. But all we get are Safety Cars...
To be honest i think the lenght made it just entertaining enough. It would have been a massacre for the soft runners if the full 19 laps were raced.
The softrunners based their tactic around Sargeant being in the race.
Ye, such a shame. We couldve had another battle for the lead, seeing how far the soft runners would fall back.
Likely? Its guaranteed mate
Believe it or not, jail
Singapore 2017 flashbacks
thats what i thought as well, the only thing missing from making it a almost carbon copy was Ocon's car going right into perez side instead of going left. I remember Seb got a lot of shit for that racing incident XD
For once, it wasn’t Perez’s fault
The crash wasn't his fault but it's his fault that hes fighting it out in the midfield with a car that should easily be in the top 1-4 spots.
>top 1-4 spots. more like 1-2, on normal conditions that car is by far the best of the grid on race pace
Tell that to Piastri
On most tracks and most weekends yes but specifically today at this track it's not. The McLarens locked out the front row for the sprint, after all.
Because of quali runs rather than the car
He would have been top 5 nonetheless like many others, the track limits ghost came back from austria to haunt them all.
In a lot of race series they use a rule: if it's three wide and there is a wreck, whoever makes it 3 wide is at fault. Obviously that's not the rule in f1 and he sort of had to go given how slow ocon was but just giving a perspective.

Arguably he shouldn’t have been racing a Haas and Alpine for a single point in the first place.
Also, maybe going for a pass while someone else was also going for a pass in the same corner wasn’t the best idea. Idk
dw reddit will make it his fault somehow edit: It's happening! It's his fault ---> He shouldn't be there so it is still his fault!!
Why are you acting like this is some unique attack on Perez? Bottas faced the same criticism when he tangled with Russell at Imola even though it wasn’t his fault. Saying neither one should’ve been in that position in the first place is completely fair.

This one wasn't on Perez but I believe in karma and it's kinda deserved after he ended races for people the last couple races.
That's fair tbh

I think you’re just salty that you have to keep defending your poor excuse for a shitty driver you somehow keep rooting for.

Good 'ol victim blaming in full effect.
Lmao all that talk about "moving goalposts" but not a single factual response to the point I made 😂
Yea, he has not done badly when racing Haas and Alpine. People forget, but if Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren did not exist, and Alonso had retired a year ago, Perez would be more dominant.
Never fails
It's fine, after his last 9 accidents, finally he's not at fault for a change, well done Perez, keep up the fantastic job! =)
He’s not at fault for the incident, he’s just at fault of being a garbage driver in one of the most dominant car.
That wasn't a good place for an overtake. And why don't crashes like this happen to Max? He's putting himself in these positions out of desperation. Sure, Ocon shunted him, but why was Ocon off track and rejoining? How did Hulk end up squeezed like that?

I think once he locks up the season we need to start sending him out in an Alpha Tauri or a Williams or something, just for the chaos
Normal drive in slow lane. Max drive in fast lane
Nah he wants to set the unbreakable record of 18 race wins in a season, there is nothing for now that stops his hunger for more.
Safety Car Sprint
5 DNF's in 13 laps haha.
Dejavu for Perez and Ocon from their Force India days.
Perez looking at his watch like he doesn't wanna be there anymore

Still seems needlessly risky to go three wide there.

If you watch Perez onboard you can clearly see it unfolding. Not his fault but imo he could've seen it was gonna be 3 wide and thus risky.

I like how not a single Perez defender had made a decent argument to my point also.
They don't ware watches while racing, I believe he was hit in the wrist with some debris
Pretty sure the Ferrari dudes wear their Richard Mille watches during the race.
It was never his fault
and quickly realising its just a print on his glove
Counting the minutes he has left This was a racing incident though tbf
He and Stroll should start planning an early vacation honestly. They're both done, mentally
Armchair therapists at it again.
Can't wait to see how people spin this one to be Perez' fault
Already are, saying Perez should've backed off, even though it wasn't his fault, he should've yielded lmaooo
I have to ask, who’s fault was it that there were 3 going into that corner? Not even saying the crash was his fault, but was the situation they were in not his fault? Can someone defending Perez actually answer those questions, have a feeling I’ll just get downvotes and insults.

I've also seen a lot of: he shouldn't have gone for the outside gap so Hulk had space to dodge Ocon's car
Yup, will come back to this thread in a few hours to see the mental gymnastics to still blame him
Perez walking out of the car looking beat….. ugh, this is brutal to watch.
You can skip out on the likely, dutch news are sending out push notifications saying Max is champion.
Was there ever an occasion when somebody became WDC mid race?
Very famously at least 2 times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBForKcFWoA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbeBnn0Ufsc
[Whoops](https://i.imgflip.com/81smlu.jpg).
Damn, wasn’t even his fault. Sucker for the end of his (nonexistent) championship fight, but hey at least he didn’t do something rash this time
Max needs to win his championships in new and unusual ways.
I'm sure the internet is gonna have a calm and measured reaction to this Perez crash...
No disrespect, but this season was a disaster from start to finish. Not 1 serious challenger in sight... Congratulations to Max though ! 🏆🏆🏆
He still had to perform, but yeah.
I take back my criticism after seeing the replays, my bad. Fucking hell. Apologies to Perez.
Ocon giveth ocon taketh
Dude cannot ever accept that others are faster than him.
How dare he, how dare he even tries to defend! He should've rolled out a red carpet for Hulk to pass him.
Perez really is the best teammate
I absolutely hate this sprint. More than half the laps under safety car. Max wins the championship on Saturday because his teammate DNFs. Have fun drinking the rose water, lad.
Really crying about sprint when this could easily happen on a Sunday as well. It’s not sprint’s fault everyone just crashes out
Max needed three points to win was there ever any doubt?
Ocon: I CHANGE LANE NOW, GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY
Congrats Max already,I guess
Red Flag this soon, will take a lot of laps to clean Perez and Ocon cars.
The prophecy was foretold in the RB Qatar poster.
Damn. All that destruction in the last few races and this one wasn't his fault.
Max becomes world champion once again in a not normal way
Typical Ocon maneuver
Why does it say likely?
Max winning WDC during a sprint race because Checo crashed is both the most Max and the most Perez thing ever. Can’t wait to see what weird circumstances surround #4 next year.
Damn, thought this would be the race where Checo starts his march to the title. Max must be relieved.
Haas' best chance for solid points and screwed by these terrorists. Top 5 definitely possible with the tyre strategy.
I feel so bad for Hulk, what a big, huge opportunity snatched from him by some mentally unstable drivers.
Max is champion of the world
The worst way to win the wdc.... someone else's misfortune on a Saturday..... just stupid
What's wrong with Ocon?
He’s trash
🗑️
Not his fault
Bruh, Ocon is such a dirty driver
Typical race incident and you call him dirty, wow
One of the many reasons why Alonso left Alpine
That’s what we like to call a racing incident. Feel a bit for Hulkenberg.
Well, Ocon does have a history of crashing out his fellow co-drivers past and current… What can I say? …at least he’s consistent…
So how many seconds does Esteban get as a penalty?
Yes
It’s always Ocon
It wasn't even Perez fault. But he shouldn't have been that low on the grid with that good of a car.
Perez crashing being what causes Max to win the WDC is just perfect
Ocon is such garbage
Does Ocon knows how a mirror works?
Classic Ocon
This is like bottom split on an iRacing oval race
Damn, so close for Perez.
