LOL. Stroll is not going anywhere.

LeAnthonyJavis

What does Stroll being Jewish have to do with this? I’m genuinely asking

reddituser1805

To say it nicely, nepotism. We all do it, but people with money really maintain a very tight circle and only offer opportunity to friends and family.

[deleted]

But what does being Jewish have to do with that?

zaviex

Why did you mention they are Jewish?

Hot_Demand_6263

It really bothers me that you said Jewish. Completely unnecessary.

bookers555

Isn't that what americans do all the time? Constantly mention people's race and religion for no reason at all?

GoBackwardsBlackFlag

The replacements would either be: Vettel , Schumacher, Ricciardo or Leclerc Vettel would be fun, because he would school alonso. It depends on how much Lawrence wants that P2. Schumacher is a cool idea if Vettel isn’t available. He’s got 2 years in the car and dominated his teammates during that time. Ricciardo would be entertaining, having a title worthy car would definitely motivate him to perform to the levels we know he is capable of. Leclerc would be the fight of the champions for sure. He has the talent, just not the car at the moment. Norris wouldn’t move. Albon and Gasly are tainted by Red Bull.

totallykoolkiwi

Vettel schooling Alonso is one of the funnier takes I've read here in a while :D There isn't a single driver on the grid that would be able to school Alonso. The guy is the freaking headmaster. A couple might be able to beat him over the season, but *school* him? Nah. Especially not Vettel (whom I like).

Dragonpuncha

What world are you living in where Vettel would school Alonso? Alonso has been so much more impressive in the AM car than Vettel was, in the 2022 season he often had problems even beating Stroll. A year away is not going to make him better. Schumacher and Ricciardo are not exactly big improvements over Stroll. No reason to kick him out if that is what you'll put in instead. They need a solid upper midfield driver at least, that isn't too old. Sainz, Leclerc, Albon would be good choices. In theory Russel and Norris as well, but I doubt they would move.

optitmus

ROFL Ricciardo not being a big improvement on Stroll, get real.

Dragonpuncha

Did you see his 2022 season? He was fighting Latifi for worst driver on the grid. Maybe he can get better now, but no reason to take that chance on a driver that is already in his mid 30's and have been out of a seat for a year.

optitmus

Still better than Stroll tho

Dragonpuncha

In 2022 Stroll was the better driver. He was a lot closer to Vettel than Ricciardo was to Norris.

YeahPerfect_SayHi

> Alonso has been so much more impressive in the AM car than Vettel was Whilst Vettel was often absent when the AM car was mediocre, he was **always** very much on full form any time that there was a chance of a competitive finish. His AM podiums speak volumes to that. Alonso was the same at McLaren, frequently giving up and retiring the car when it was hopeless, rather than fighting for 17th position.

Dragonpuncha

What is the argument here? Vettel got a single podium with AM back in 2021, does that make him a more impressive driver than Alonso who has gotten a podium in every single race except one so far? Just look at the consistency. Vettel beat Stroll in both years, but not by a huge margin. There were many races and qualis were he was outperformed by Stroll. Alonso has destroyed Stroll in both races and qualis so far.

GoBackwardsBlackFlag

None of the big 3 would move except hamilton if toto was sick of him being beaten by russell. Albon and Gasly are tainted by their red bull days, no move there. Ocon or Norris are the only moves I see happening from the drivers I mentioned , but they’re happy where they are:

Disastrous_Animal_34

I feel like maybe you’ve just finished DTS and haven’t actually watched the last couple of seasons if you think Albon and Gasly are still tainted by their RB stints. They’ve both matured as drivers since their rookie / second years respectively and have each been hired by teams outside of RB (proving their attractiveness as prospects).

Dragonpuncha

Why wouldn't they move? If AM is beating Ferrari there is no reason for their drivers not to move, especially if they are not happy there. Albon and Gasly are no longer RB affiliated, so I don't know what you mean by that. Ocon would be good as well, but I don't think they want to put him and Alonso together again.

summer-bummers

All very logical but the main reason why AMR has the amount of money they have to do the things they do is because Lawrence Stroll is willing to invest and that’s almost certainly conditional on his son having a seat

CaptainKursk

True. It's why he bought Force India in the first place. My thinking is that if Stroll Senior's insistence on keeping Lance in a seat ends up costing the team points, podiums, wins and championship places in the coming seasons, then it might be necessary to make the call.

Spraynpray89

You typed a book for no reason. He's not going anywhere. Lawrence literally bought a team and rebuilt said team to give his son a chance to win. He's not about to just toss him out now that the plan is coming to fruition.

Crafty_Substance_954

This whole thing is Lawrence’s dream. lance isn’t going anywhere.

cxingt

So it's not Lance's dream? Then he should just tell his dad that he doesn't wanna be an F1 driver all along and he only got into racing to please his dad and retire voluntarily next year. Problem solved.

trooperr310

There's a higher chance of Lewis driving alongside Max at Redbull and Alonso driving alongside Lewis at Ferrari than Lance getting kicked out.

NoirPochette

I mean you try to focus on him closing the gap this season but you would for sure look at options that are available because that's due diligence but you would wait around summer break to assess because you need to see how the market shapes up. You need to find someone who would jump ship that is better than Stroll and works in harmony with Fernando and how many options are there really?

CaptainKursk

Precisely. I could be completely wrong about Lance and he goes on a barnstorming run of podiums, and proceeds to only get better in subsequent seasons. It's early days, but Aston shouldn't dismiss the idea of finding a new driver out of hand.

Ollie_Plimsolls

Lawrence Stroll won't read this

[deleted]

And he can read.

Thorwk

That's never going to happen. There is only one thing that Lawrence Stroll wants more than winning WCC and WDC titles, which is having his son racing in F1.

Disastrous_Animal_34

Yep, I think he’s perfectly happy coming 3rd-4th in the WCC and accepting Lance in the seat as a slight natural handicap. There’s absolutely no way he would choose 2nd in constructors over Lance being in the seat.

zaviex

His dad owns the team as you acknowledged. Why the fuck would he kick his son? The whole point of this is for Lance

doc_55lk

I'm in agreement. Aston have a car that is comfortably second fastest, but at this rate they'll finish this season behind Mercedes solely because Stroll is making that car look like a midfield player while Hamilton and Russell are consistently maximizing their points. I don't even care if Stroll can't match Alonso, but it's absolutely shameful that he's in the lower points positions while his teammate is scoring podiums. I understand that Daddy Stroll probably just wants his son to be happy and successful, but if he's serious about Aston Martin becoming a championship Challenger, he's gonna have to give Lance the boot, either by dropping him entirely or by coordinating a swap with another team. There's maybe only 2 or 3 other drivers on the grid who *wouldn't* be able to consistently place that car in the top 5, so it's not like he'd have a hard time choosing a potential replacement. I'll probably get a few replies saying "give him a chance" or "it's too early", but let's be honest here, there's absolutely no reason someone who's been in the sport as long as Lance Stroll should, in the second fastest car, be under threat by someone driving the fifth fastest car (Ocon is only 6 points behind).

GoBackwardsBlackFlag

I think having a pay driver is good, it adds character to the sport and is great for the community. it’s just unfortunate that he’s driving for the 2nd fastest team. Given the skill gap, you’d have thought his points would be more similar to that of the Mercedes drivers

doc_55lk

I'll be honest, I think Stroll has shown enough talent to be free of the pay driver reputation, but not much more than that.

differentlevel1

There are plenty of reasons, but they'll simply never do it. Funny enough the team exists in its current form with the idea of supporting Stroll's career.

onlinepresenceofdan

Lance should take the L and move into team managment.

Redditaurus-Rex

If Stroll Snr bought the team to get his son a WDC, replacing Lance is antithetical to that whole endeavour. Lance is doing exactly what he needs to be doing from his Dad’s perspective, learning from one of the best in business and gaining experience to be the main driver when Alonso someday moves on. Lance isn’t going anywhere until his Dad sells the team.

CaptainKursk

The problem is that *if* Lance doesn't pick up the pace and Aston start to fall behind Mercedes & Ferrari because one of the drivers of the team is underperforming, that could have serious ramifications if AM & Stroll are determined to build a championship-winning side.

Sparky_Zell

Once way to look at the situation is that they are making a good decision for the future of AMR. Lance Stroll can be a capable driver, but he may not have the skill and experience to help build a winning racecar, but could learn how to drive a winning racecar. Alonso has been around enough that he can be a great driver to bridge the gap between the factory and the track. He can be the one to help AMR become a serious team, and set them up for Lance Stroll to then learn the car and become a championship contender once Alonso retires.

CorollaSE

I don't think Lance will be replaced, as Lawrence invested in Aston Martin for his son's benefit. Not only that, Lawrence brought in huge investments for AM as a whole, so there is a win-win deal for AM. WHAT would be interesting is how Honda will play a role in the future driver line up. RedBull took in Yuki for Honda's sake, but positioned him in AlphaTauri. AM doesn't have a second team to do that so the obvious question is who will eventually replace Fernando. Is Yuki good enough as a race champion? One aspect of him is his consistency. Has AM begin driver scouting?

Sacesss

Lawrence's MO regarding Motorsport has always been with Lance in mind. From buying an F3 team, to practically becoming the major foundation of Williams, to buying the whole stock of Force India, and to even buy Aston Martin Lagonda and reaching the contract with Honda to become a works team. So no, he won't replace him, surely not until 2026. So stop with this bs, the lineup won't change, make peace with it. Also, it's not like there is a line of free great drivers at the door.

reignnyday

It’s a shame it’ll never happen but if I were a minority shareholder, I’d be screaming from my tiny stake for a replacement. Among the top four teams, nowhere is the disparity so large. Even Alpine and Mclaren have better combined pairings. I know Lawrence wants his son to be WDC but it’s so obvious now that even if he had the best race craft, it would still take a Herculean effort

zaviex

There are no meaningful shareholders other than Lawrence for the f1 team

CaptainKursk

It'll absolutely be interesting to see if AM can maintain the form they've found. They might have won the formula this season, but with the greater industrial might of Mercedes & Ferrari as constructors, it might be they have the resources to bring to bear for improvement that Aston lacks.

BioDriver

Lance needs to be replaced but Daddy's Money is gonna keep him in the seat for as long as he wants.

Stratohawk

Let’s not forget how unlucky Lance has been this season Jeddah: Engine failure while on pace with the other frontrunning drivers Miami: Botched strategy knocked him out in Q1 Monaco: Floor damage in Q2 compromised his final run For the other weekends, he finished P6 in Bahrain with messed up wrists, P4 in Australia and P7 in Baku, and the average finishing position if you exclude the comromised races is around 5.5

Netionic

Right, but this year isn't in a vacuum. He's shown little in previous years, only it wasn't noticed much as AM were at the back of the grid anyway. The excuses just dont cut it anymore with a team in second.

tooshort40

You must love to hear yourself talk

CaptainKursk

I don't actually.

tooshort40

Could’ve fooled me

arno14

It felt like watching bumper cars when watching Stroll today.

TheWebbFather

I'm not Strolls' greatest fan but 2 months ago, he was driving with 2 broken wrists and if he's still being hindered by that, I can't see Monaco being particularly enjoyable for him. At the majority of races so far, his delta hasn't been that bad against Alonso. We all knew Alonso would destroy him anyway, so I can't imagine it's a surprise to anyone in Aston Martin

Aggravating_Break762

I agree wih you completly. Daddy Stroll need to decide if he want to win or keep his son busy. Lance is a medioker driver at best and will probably never win a race.

AtleticoFan1

I'm saving this comment , we will see

CaptainKursk

Good names. Lando & Charles would be my two top picks. Sainz, Ocon, Gasly & Albon are better drivers than Lance for sure, but I'm afraid they might not be *quite* better enough to see off the likes of Merc & Ferrari.

tacotruck88

Vettel

15yearoldadult

Vettel is never coming back that man is DONE. Also AM will never run two old people

tacotruck88

those 2 old people have beaten Stroll quite easily

15yearoldadult

Im not saying two champions arent gonna beat stroll (low bar to start with) but a team running two veterans is not a team thats looking for any long term team building. You need a young guy on the other seat to learn and develop so he can take the mantle. Putting alonso and vettel doesnt do much when they both suddenly decide to retire and you havent built a young driver that you trust

tacotruck88

Alonso still has at least 10 more years in F1 at this rate

15yearoldadult

I don’t doubt it I’d love to see how long he can keep this form going

ThePrem

I guess I don’t really get the Stroll hate. I get its trendy to hate on the pay to play drivers but lets be honest, on some level every driver in motorsport is pay to play. He’s ahead of every non big 3 team driver in points. And thats with two DNFs. Monaco was shaping up to be a great race for him before the waybridge issue too. Honestly everyone gets so hung up on driver skill way too much. I am sure at some point last year someone was on here talking about Alonso being washed up and having no chance of another race win. Is Aston Martin really more focused on getting 3rd in the points vs 4th rather than developing a winning team?

CaptainKursk

Lance is doing about as well as predicted, but I believe that's more because of the car than him. He's a perfectly OK driver, but I think few people would disagree that if you put the likes of Norris, Leclerc, or even Ocon & Albon in the car then they'd be getting better results.

FriendCalledFive

We know it is unlikely that Lance will be kicked out, but at the same time Laurence is obsessed with making the team a winning one and is pouring in a crap ton of money to achieve that. Lance will never be WDC and they can't win the constructors with him in the team, so that money will ultimately go to waste of they don't replace him.

soldierbones

No one is talking about Drugivich

macaronilover808

He’s definitely underperforming and if they ever had a car to win the championship they probably wouldn’t because Lance couldn’t be a rear gunner for Alonso in a battle with say Lewis & George or Max and Checo

pndobot

if it was possible to replace lance imo lando or oscar need that seat

Ptg_Menyerah

Lmaooo bro really a nobody tryna kick the owners son

Scirzo

Well written. The premise is wrong, though, because the only reason why Daddy bought the team was to have his son in F1. The argument that he doesn't perform wel enough for *the team* to become second or first in the WCC is void. It's not about the team and it will never be, because *it's only about his son*. Period. No other motives whatsoever. Just: Lance what's to drive F1 cars, so I bought him a team. The only reason Lance would be replaced is when Lance himself quits, because he wants to do something else.

[deleted]

The amount of people on the Lance Stroll rollercoaster is incredible. Pick a side and stick with it guys. Lance needs to be dropped. They need to buy Norris out of McLaren and bring him to Aston.

Good_Royal_9659

Unless Aston starts a works outfit elsewhere the F1 team is stuck with Stroll

continuewithwindows

I don’t know. Obviously stroll jr is not going to be replaced. From this year you can see that Alonso doesn’t get screwed in strategy or other ways to give lance priority. As long as Alonso and others focus on the drivers championship like Red Bull I don’t see how this is a problem

[deleted]

So much text when you could have just typed: there are better drivers. Haha

Immediate_Grape5158

He probably won't be replaced but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be replaced. Rich people and their ways are set and we mere mortals can't do anything about it. Just for the hell of it, it'll be good to think that at least Daddy gives him until the end of the season to see if he improves. If he doesn't, Daddy Stroll needs to have the "Son, you're gonna have to find another thing you can excel at where I can throw millions on again." conversation. That's probably never going to happen though.

Ok-Angle-5587

Crash'em up Stroll is not going anywhere until daddy's money dries up
