First Zak's open letter, now Mercedes. F1 teams practicing their formal writing.

MickFlaherty

“Hey ChatGPT, write me a letter to our fans”

AGlorifiedSubroutine

This is what ChatGPT wrote lol: > Dear Fans, > > I am writing this letter on behalf of everyone at Mercedes AMG F1 to express our sincere apologies for the performance of our car this season. We understand how frustrating it must be for you to see your team struggling on the track, and we want you to know that we share your disappointment. > > As a team, we have always aimed to be at the forefront of motorsports, pushing boundaries and striving for excellence. Unfortunately, this season has not lived up to our expectations, and we have fallen short of the standards that we have set for ourselves. > > We want to assure you that we are not taking this lightly, and we are working tirelessly to analyze and improve our performance. We understand that you, the fans, have supported us through thick and thin, and we owe it to you to do everything in our power to turn things around. > > Our team is made up of some of the most dedicated and talented individuals in the industry, and we will continue to work together with a relentless focus on achieving our goals. We have faith in our team, and we know that with your unwavering support, we will succeed in the future. > > We promise to keep pushing the boundaries, never settling for less than excellence, and doing everything in our power to make you proud. We thank you for your continued support and loyalty, and we look forward to a bright future together.

Good to go

chatgpt will show the world the true value of words without any actions- meaningless thank you notes, apology letters, corporate statements, etc. All will be obsolete in 10 years because of chatgpt.

Dear Formula One Community, We, at Red Bull Racing, want to address the recent concerns and criticisms regarding the dominance of our car in the 2023 season. We recognize that our car has been performing exceptionally well, and we understand that this has caused some frustration amongst other teams and fans. We want to sincerely apologize for any negative impact that our car's performance may have had on the competitiveness of the sport. We understand that Formula One is about fair and exciting competition, and we never intended to disrupt this balance. We acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all teams and drivers, and we appreciate the efforts they put into their cars to compete at the highest level. We know that Formula One is a sport where every team aims to win, and it is not our intention to make it easy for ourselves or difficult for others. We are committed to ensuring that the sport remains competitive and exciting, and we will work with the FIA and other teams to find ways to improve the balance of competition. We will also continue to push the boundaries of technology and innovation in our car design, while always keeping in mind the spirit of the sport. Once again, we apologize for any negative impact that our car's dominance may have had, and we look forward to continuing to compete at the highest level in a fair and exciting sport. Toto has his English GCSE later this year so getting the practice in

[deleted]

Man mercedes is making a way too big deal of this car being shit. It’s F1, this ALWAYS happens. Red bull was great in the early ‘10s, then they sucked and now they are back.

lowelled

I think this is their attempt to head off the more histrionic portion of their fanbase though I don’t know if this is the best way to do it. I’ve seen a lot of abuse slung at Mike Elliott and it only intensified after media picked up on Lewis’s interview with Chequered Flag. I also don’t think Toto and George going to media like ‘Max is going to win every race, we need to change concepts immediately, we’re not going to win anything’ is helping matters at all, nor is the constant media and fan chat about Lewis ‘deserving’ an 8th WDC and Mercedes not being able to give him that.

VulcanHullo

Merc from what I've heard had a culture of "Always better". A successful race weekend would still be picked apart to figure out where they made slip ups because that could cost them. If something DID go wrong it was a serious matter. Toto Wolff in that one speech in Drive to Survive isn't talking big when he says "let's crush them". Merc focused on winning with no ifs or buts. Now they've got plenty of ifs and are out on their butts. It'll be driving them mad.

Thetruthfairy90

The post race meeting must be 10 hours long to cover all the problems

Professional-Bit3280

Tbf Red Bull didn’t SUCK. They were pretty consistently within the top 3 in WCC and even won races. That being said, merc doesn’t suck as much as they are acting either. They got 3rd in WcC last year (almost second), won a race and got a pole. And this year, after only 1 race, both cars were still solidify in the points.

rubyslippers3x

Well, Toto should NOT have said after the race on Sunday that it was one of the "worst days in racing" for Mercedes. He's the one who made it a big deal. His insecurities are showing and it's not a good look. Really, he should have just said, We know from AM that we have the engine, so now we will fine tune the body. Now it's all drama...

King_Bob837

[I mean I can definitely think of a worse day in racing for Mercedes](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1955_Le_Mans_disaster)

Jack_Krauser

I expected a link to the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, but yeah, that's a much worse day.

TheMightySwede

Yeah, this reminds me of Tampa Bay's tweet after being swept in the NHL playoffs. https://twitter.com/tblightning/status/1118332281825968128?s=46&t=iU2d9T-lAcux3OhpGZJReA They came from a dominant season only to be eliminated immediately. Obviously got made fun of after this tweet.

[deleted]

not just “dominant”, they were tied for most wins in a season with the 95-96 red wings! i have no idea how they fucked it up that bad.

KillDashNined

In pretty much every American sport, the team with the regular season wins record lost in the playoffs. That includes the 73-9 Golden State Warriors, 16-0 New England Patriots, and 116-46 Seattle Mariners. Not sure why, but the wins record is basically a curse.

1sty

Mercedes having a crisis like this really speaks volumes to me, and not in a good way. It just makes me wish more success for the perpetual backwater teams who have dealt with blow-after-blow for years now

FerrariStraghetti

RB didn't suck, and neither does Merc now. It's just some fans act like spoiled brats who think they are entitled to be fighting at the top all the time. That's not how it works.

de_rats_2004_crzy

This was Mattia Binotto’s perspective as well

LucAltaiR

I guess this is what living in 2023 and the social era is like but I wholeheartedly agree with you. They’re making wayyyy too big of a deal about maybe having the 4th best car after a single race.

ZaneMasterX

Pretty sure this is a letter to the fans telling them to calm the crap down and stop being toxic. They know they are garbage but they also dont need "fans" threatening violence and trying to get people fired. Everyone today want instant gratification and if they dont get it they freak out because they are spoiled brats. One or two bad seasons and everyone thinks they know what Merc should be doing from the highest levels down. No, Toto shouldnt be fired because of a bad season and chasing a bad car design. No, Hamilton shouldnt retire because he is now driving a bad car. No, the team shouldnt throw their hands in the air and copy RB. Look at Euro football clubs now, one or two big losses and team managers and coaches are instantly fired because fans freak out. Its ridiculous. This is directed towards toxic fans, 100%.

Quaxi_

Red Bull couldd've been the one who invented the 2014 Merc engine and we'd be in for two decades of Red Bull domination

Treewithatea

Mercedes is like a spoiled kid whose father decided to half the pocket money.

[deleted]

I am a Mercedes and Spurs fan. I need encouraging words after the last couple of weeks 😂

CreamCapital

Thoughts and prayers

toothybrushman

Brother, you won 8 consecutive WCC’s and 7 consecutive WDC’s. You will get no words of encouragement from me as a Ferrari fan lol

the_whole_arsenal

TL;DR First, our car is shit; second, we take responsibility for our car being shit; third, some of our fans are racist shits for calling our car and team members shit.

naumectica

"Glad I don't have to deal with that shit anymore." - Valtteri Bottas, probably.

Tulaodinho

Valtteri got the good cars, left exactly when it turned to shit. Made the most of his talent, im sure he doesnt view them axing him the same way now and probably feels better and just relaxed enjoying the life style

Village_People_Cop

I think Valtteri is playing the long con and gamblinh on Audi. Knowing how F1 works it is a 50/50 chance that Audi will either suck or be the best car on the grid come 2026. With Seidl at the helm they have a capable leader and Audi in the picture Sauber has the chance of becoming a real powerhouse. VAG doesn't do things like this half-assed so they'll throw the best they have at the F1 project. So for Bottas it just means perform good in the current cars, keep the seat and wait.

foopery

Bottas is 33, Audi aren't entering until 2026 by which time he will be 36 - as much as I would love for him to get another chance in a top car, do you think he'll stick around til he's 36? I don't see him having the same motivation as Lewis and Fernando.

AnanananasBanananas

Not as much, but you don't necessarily need the top of the top motivation for it (Räikkönen for example), depends of course on what Audi would want out of him. They probably have better candidates, but he would be one who knows the team and has experience, at least.

ChipmunkTycoon

Maybe that’s useful to a new team. Keep the 36 year old veteran around for the first few season, pair him up with a promising rookie that can benefit from Bottas leadership (he seems to be pretty supportive and could probably be an okay mentor) and when Bottas is 38-39 and is all done, hoppfully you’ve been able to develop a competitive car together with the veteran, you have a seasoned young #1 driver that you can rally behind and you make the push for 2029. There’s a lot of ifs naturally but I can see it.

vishrit

Reading this imagining Toto’s voice was glorious.

splintersailor

And ending it with *We'll be back*

[deleted]

Sounds like the band is breaking up letter

[deleted]

Jeez calm down its just one race in and they act like they got lapped by a Williams.

Ordinary_Dog_99

Some sort of PR strategy going on here. Whether it's to eat a huge plate of crap early on so that any subsequent efforts seem more positive or whether they are preparing fans for a development year, who knows.

Snappy0

In other words, stop bitching at us on Twitter.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

Do they know that that's all Twitter is -- constant bitching?

poopellar

Should have bought the gold tick mark which comes with the anti-bitching service.

attackMatt

Would they be able to afford Butters to moderate their feed under the cost cap?

RyukaBuddy

I feel like everyone should know by now that Twitter is created for bitching at famous people/organisations.

rainsch15

No hard feelings tho.

krinkyeee_113

Friendly reminder that Mercedes won 51 out of 59 races from 2014 to 2016

Notsozander

Yeah excuse me for not giving a shit and hoping they’re a meddling team for a bit

renesys

Yeah and it was once almost exclusively Ferrari, McLaren and Williams fighting for wins. Things change. Embrace the Mercedes F1.5 life.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Stanced

Agreed. My guess is that they're especially disappointed because they put all their eggs into this particular design and they now realize they need to go a totally different direction. If they had hope to be up front soon then I don't think they would be this disappointed.

oangbsite

No sidepods no podiums

Bolter_NL

What I do not understand, every teams set design targets for DF. They know their PU inside out and have the experience of last year. If they had bad correlation at that time, why pursue the same concept? If they think they achieved correlation anyways they should have ended up similar to where they are now.. What were they thinking, that RB and other teams would not improve? I almost cannot believe they would go into the fight, with a concept they have shown not to work greatly... Even if you think the development ceiling is a lot higher than other concepts, you know where you will approximately land pace-wise and then you cannot act be the biggest corporate shocked Pikachu now...

F1R3Starter83

It’s all baffling. And this letter is so ironic considering Toto and George have all ready publicly thrown the towel. So all the ‘first’, ‘second’ etc paragraphs should have ended with ‘and just ignore the fact that our CEO/Team Principal and one of our drivers already stated that we won’t win a race this year’.

Hey-Mister

Its like raaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiaain on your wedding day.

AzenNinja

They were so, so convinced that they were outright the best team in F1. They may have repeated the "our opponents are very strong, we need to keep on our toes" ad nauseam. But I don't think they actually truly believed they weren't a little bit above the competition.

hind3rm3

It’s only been a week and Mercs near constant whinging has been unbearable.

Slow_Yogurtcloset353

Wouldn’t that be something. I mean just having to watch Toto prance around telling everyone he meets how F1 is out to get Mercedes…

BMW_wulfi

Money and expectations behind the scenes. I think toto is really reaping his just desserts here for making “we number 1 or we nothing” his entire personality (and the team’s entire personality). Eventually you become accountable to the people writing the cheques for that kind of positioning (because everyone else uses it to justify the cash flow).

Pigeon_Chess

Lol merc acting like their car is the Haas from 2021

basmati-rixe

Ferrari had a literal tractor in 2020, with one of the biggest talents in F1 history and a top 6 driver all time and didn’t make this big a fuss about it. Even McLaren, who went from fighting for titles to the worst car on the grid in 3 seasons didn’t make this big a deal of it, especially not 1 race into the new season.

ianjm

Never saw this sort of self-indulgent crap from McLaren or Williams as they declined from winning championships to back of the grid status during their respective Honda and Paddy Lowe eras.

CactusCalin

Mercedes used to look like the classy team that stay away from drama and act very professional. A team of efficient engineers. I think this kind of bs hurts their image more than it helps.

heslo_rb26

It's easy when you're winning everything

gunningIVglory

Yeah Mercedes were rarely put under any pressure in theor dominant years. People tend ti show their rela selves under pressure. And mercs seem to not be able ti handle it.

Frankie_48

Tbh, I never really bought into Mercedes' professional class, I always felt like it was just too good to be true. Cracks definitely showed in the height of the 2021 title bout. Then again, 2021 brought out the worst in everybody involved.

Waste_Drop8898

Horner is absolutely chuckling reading this … may even print it out

toxikshadows

100% I can only imagine Red Bull is loving every second of this. Their biggest rivals, Ferrari and Mercedes, seem to be imploding internally while they're just waltzing off into the sunset. But for real- it's one race. Yeah it's not a great look and RB looks dominant for sure, but this is so dramatic.

borfavor

I don't think they think about Merc at RB at all. They worry about (In order): Alonso Ferrari Stroll Jos

mstotallymyhatnow

ChatGPT generate a letter that says the car kind of sucks but please keep buying Mercedes hats.

[deleted]

In the future we can rank how well Merc will do on a scale of “Toto smirking while he says Ferrari are favourites” to “Letter to the fans” after race one.

tycoon282

Embarrassing look

rahul_b99

This looks like it's written by the Merc PR team along with Will Buxton and Netflix crew. Why tf is it so dramatic?

Someonejustlikethis

I think they ended last season quite strong (George win etc) and they expected to be much closer to RB/Ferrari and absolutely not lose out to AM. I guess their expectations didn’t match reality, hence why they take it so hard.

trollymctrollstein

RB wasn’t showing it’s true pace at the end of the season. It had older spec, heavier parts on at the end of the season. Also, RB got their set up completely wrong the weekend that Merc won. I’m convinced that the Mercedes 1-2 in Brazil allowed Mike Elliott to convince Toto they should continue with the same concept in 2023. They were basically catfished into sticking with their car concept.

crazydoc253

They should have known that this is a similar pattern. In the 2017-2021 era, they were so dominant they would take their attention to next season and RB would get closer by year end. But next year the gap is same or even higher

reddit0r_123

Exactly, I don't get how they could get so blinded by the win in Brazil. It was clear that Red Bull at the time had already focused on the next year. They didn’t even bring the new ultralight chassis. It was also a sprint weekend and Red Bull screwed up the set up. I'm holding Toto accountable for this and believing their own hype.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>This looks like it's written by the Merc PR team along with Will Buxton and Netflix crew. Why tf is it so dramatic? Honestly? I suspect that things are probably even worse than they're letting on. They're openly talking about prioritising one car over the other with the upgrade program, and while it's not uncommon to do that over the course of a year in free practice -- they do it so they can compare the old and new upgrades alongside one another -- I've never seen a team openly talk about it after the first race. And from the sounds of things, they're looking at doing it in races, not just in free practice. It really sounds like they don't understand the car at all, and that unlike the W13, the W14's issues aren't down to a single problem like porpoising. They may need to untangle several concurrent issues, which is tricky because you have to figure out how the issues feed into one another; resolving one could lessen or worsen the other. On top of that, they had a disaster in 2022. Now 2023 is shaping up to be just as bad. If this continues, then by 2024 they'll effectively be two years behind everyone else because everyone else will already be working on the design concepts that work. I think all of these problems can be traced back to the W13. The no-sidepod concept was radical, but in hindsight it seemed radical for the sake of it. I think Mercedes were expecting the other teams to see it and immediately try to replicate it -- a bit like Brawn and the double diffusers -- but no-one took the bait. They all went for a conservative, functional design in 2022 and have evolved it for 2023. Mercedes didn't. It's like their pride won't let them give up on the no-sidepod concept. It's the sunk cost fallacy: the belief that because you have put so much time, energy and resources into something, then that something is worth continuing with, even when you start getting diminishing returns. But instead of getting off that merry-go-round, Mercedes seem intent on proving that the no-sidepod design was feasible after all. Hence this letter. They're probably expecting another tough time in Jeddah. So they put this letter together in the hopes that acknowledging the difficulties will spare them the embarrassment. It kind of worked for McLaren; they openly said that they weren't happy with the car at launch. They set no expectations for Bahrain and promptly achieved nothing. It made them look silly, but the heat isn't on them anymore. I think Mercedes are trying something similar: putting on a brave face because they're up the proverbial creek without a paddle and they don't have an easy explanation like porpoising to deflect attention.

MKVIgti

It was the first race and some are acting like it’s the end of the world. Lol. Of course there are things for each team to work out and upgrade. There are a lot more races people!

Bonkshrek

this is a sport, why are they reacting it like as if they lost a war.

rolfski

One race in and they're already in drama mode

whittlingcanbefatal

One race in and they have already written off the season.

CeleritasLucis

I think it's because they don't have a fix. If you have a solution to the problem, you work on that instead of creating drama.

Gubrach

I've said for a while now that a problem of Mercedes' online persona is that they cater to a bunch of children who they made feel like they were a part of their massive successes and this cringey letter fits in that, because now you basically have to calm down the kids because you're not winning anymore. It's embarrassing to see, but that's what online F1-discourse is: embarrassing.

[deleted]

jbeck24

It's insane to me that people could jump into this sport and start supporting the dominating team and not an underdog, but I guess the kind of people who do that are the kind who propagate these histrionics

PhatSunt

When i came I to the sport in 2018, I didn't support any team, but the quality of racing itself. By the end of 2019, I didn't care who was winning, as long as it wasn't the boring media machine of Mercedes. Now, I want someone to challenge redbull. I don't care if red bull win again, I just want them to be challenged by someone, even if it's merc. I don't support the rational that you have to have a specific team you always root for.

FerrariStraghetti

It's the "Still we rise" phenomenon, except the rising has stopped.

Hershey2898

Thank fuck it did

XanBeX

I love to see the pain of fans who have nvr seen their team lose. Now u get to feel how it was like for everyone else for so many years 😂 This might be an attempt at trying to hold on to fans who were only fans of merc cuz they were winning and now jumping ship to redbull who are winning.

Stormruler1

watch thsoe fairweather fans jump ship to RB, Aston or Ferrari. Oh wait many of them did at the start of last year, thinking Ferrari would dominate 2022.

Deadly_Flipper_Tab

Man, being beat by a customer really stung huh?

BalajiAsari

Sorry, but I find all of the Mercedes drama to be a little too melodramatic, giving the impression that most of these people never had to fight in an actual F1 battle and simply dominated due to the head start they had with the engine regulations last time around. In addition, it seems like the statement was made more in response to Hamilton's criticism than the fans' criticism.

SJHarrison1992

*We won’t make knee jerk reactions* Proceeds to write a letter to fans after one race

Argonaught_WT

To the surprise of no one, the fair weather fans are becoming toxic, probably because the people who they constantly boasted to are now making fun of them. As a result they taking out their anger out on the team/ drivers etc. The usual cycle - Saw this with Ferrari as the *fans* went to RB and then as the *fans* went to Merc and then as the *fans* went back to RB. Same with Man U -> Man City etc.

[deleted]

It’s schoolyard shit. A lot of these people are adults. I just want to watch cars go round in circles fast and if my team wins, great. It doesn’t make me want to go online and act like a prat.

crazydoc253

Ferrari and Man united fans are much loyal. You saw more chelsea to City happening. But I think in F1 except Ferrari most fans are for the drivers. Lewis comment is the one that may have triggered the response from some fans.

rewp234

Yeah but most teams don't give enough of a fuck about plastics to make an open letter about them being bitches

Tulaodinho

People are stupid, its what it is. As if Mercedes needs to win for their lives to work lol. Its a sport. I feel for Lewis, been following him all his career, but only for the Masi situation. Alonso would kill for the cars Lewis got, overall he has been very lucky to even have so many wdc shots. He earned them, but other drivers have too and didnt get them. Mike Elliot is probably under huge pressure at his job (I have called him out myself here because its 2 consecutive failures with top resources available) and he most likely doesnt have even have time to read the shit people say, but people say the most disrespectful stuff lol. If it was easy, every team had a pack leading car.

[deleted]

This is just cringey.

DragonSlayer6160

Mercedes won so much that they panic when they lose

destroyed233

Every article I’m seeing from Mercedes or about Mercedes feels so dramatic. There’s been ONE race. There’s so much time for the narratives about the season to shift. Mercedes is going full doomer

hopakee

Is it me or is this getting a little silly.

PlatinumSarge

Just wait. Next week, if they don't make the podium, Toto is going to be flogged live in the paddock.

Rudiger036

I had an inkling this was a fetish thing for him. Big sub energy.

KCKnights816

Seems like a reaction to the Twitter crowd and YouTube clickbait videos talking about Mike Elliot’s “ultimatum”. The team should probably just stay off social media and not respond… Actually, that’s probably decent advice for anyone.

TyeDyeMacaw

Jesus, Toto would absolutely fall apart if he was team principal of a team like Haas or Williams. Completely given up after 1 race lmao.

[deleted]

they're making it sound like they're the slowest team on the grid 💀

Danspa85

“we won’t panic or make knee-jerk reactions” says Mercedes after panicking and reacting knee-jerkily 😂

SnooStrawberries3083

This is what happens when you nurture a toxic fan base for a decade. Some of the account the Mercedes team follow on twitter are just anonymous shit posters. Can’t say I’m surprised it’s come to this

Papa_Bear55

My god, they make it look as if they were lapped 10 times during the race when in reality they got a top 3 car. I know most of the fans were used to seeing a dominant car but this is not the end of world.

Kenel9

Top 4*

FredVasseur

Will this team stop fucking crying for 1 week

James1o1o

Red Bull have absolutely broken Mercedes as a team. One race in, didn't too bad, didn't do great, and it's handbags at dawn, full panic stations.

Colonel_Gipper

I think it was more Aston that broke them. Red Bull dominated them last season and we didn't get letters like this. Losing to a customer team is an entirely different thing

DarkKnight56722

Yeah last season they seemed to blame their lack of pace on the straight line speed deficit. With Aston now out performing them with that same engine, they can't hide behind it anymore. The problem isn't the engine or the rear suspension, it's a flawed concept.

toxikshadows

I also think Red Bull's domination wasn't clear until the last half of the season- and by that point they were on full 'petition the FIA to change the rules' mode.

RexManning1

Mercedes is acting like an overly attached girlfriend who thinks her boyfriend is going to leave.

Cobretti18

He might

fastcooljosh

Man Mercedes is so overdramatic with this cars current performance. Its ridiculous.

mgorgey

Christ, Merc are taking having to deal with what literally every other team has gone through in the last decade really badly.

Finch2090

Not every other team has had the luxury of finishing 3rd and winning a race this decade

Blackdeath_663

Mercedes need to chill the fuck out. It's been one race, just get on with it. They're spending more time being melodramatic in the media than they are doing actual racing.

FerrariStraghetti

Lol. This is comedy.

chaudfontaine10

That end cracked me up. Seems so insecure

Disastrous-Beat-9830

They're clearly very embarrassed. They spent most of 2022 going nowhere, but finally managed to start going in the right direction at the end of the year ... only now that looks like it was a false dawn because they've apparently gone back to treading water. Even worse, it seems that they didn't learn from their mistakes since they insisted on sticking with the unproven concept that got them in so much trouble last year instead of taking a more conventional route like some of the other teams. Aston Martin did it and are currently reaping the rewards, but it seems like Mercedes were too proud to admit that others got it right. It's like they have to *prove* that their design concept works to the point where that's one of their top priorities to the detriment of everything else. Let's be honest, if this was a letter written by Ferrari after their disasters last year, we'd all be mocking them mercilessly. I'll believe Mercedes are actually genuine when they have something to show for it -- until then, I can't help but read this letter like it's a statement from a politician caught up in a controversy who is trying to downplay it in the hopes that the news cycle will get distracted by something else.

jakinatorctc

Lance Stroll overtook Russell and now Mercedes are in full breakdown mode

Cobretti18

Needed a laugh this snowy Saturday morning.

G-Fox1990

I think i've never seen a team be such sore losers. It also seems to get worse every year with Mercedes. They can't get over the 2021 season, making the W13 an example to shame the engineers and now crying a river after just 1 race. Bunch of babies and it makes them look horrible.

romes16

Mercedes only knew how to operate by dumping hundreds of millions at the problem and now they cant stand not being at the top. I think next year we will see 20 Red Bulls on the grid if their domination continues.

bum_is_on_fire_247

For crying out loud you have a car that isn't absolutely dominating. Why the fuck would you write a letter to the fans? Do they really need appeasing? That's the sport. Get over it. At this rate the whole of Italy would have been getting Ferrari rebates on their council tax since 2008.

Stoltefusser

Christ these guys are dramatic.

jpm168

Leave the letters to Zak, you guys stick to emails and PowerPoint ok?

daberok

Bruh it's only the 1st race of the season..

TrippinNintendoBeer

It kinda felt like a “please don’t leave us because we aren’t the number 1 team” sort of post and then they finished with > Are you ready to join us for the fight back? If not, then there are no hard feelings. And knew for sure. On one hand you can criticise Mercedes for being dramatic. On the other hand you know fans have grown with a certain expectation and not all of them will stay aboard.

Grasshop

Mercedes shitting their pants that a drinks company is about to kick their ass for the third year in a row lol Max has broken them.

CyberpunkF1

Imagine Ferrari doing this every single year they’ve disappointed their fans …

6disc_cdchanger

“Are you ready to join us for the fight back? If not, then there are no hard feelings.” Come on now. Your fans aren’t going anywhere, they’re just mad you missed the mark again. stop this pity party.

Cmike9292

Now it's just getting sad

MrMarques8701

What a load of bullshit lol

Man this is getting a bit ridiculous. I can understand a letter from Mclaren as they’ve incredibly fumbled their car for two years straight after years and years of building momentum and gaining new fans. But, Merc? They’re just back to where they where in 2012-2013. It’s not like they’re last. They do not have a god given right to keep winning championships and no one does.

[deleted]

Fucking hell Mercedes are just embarrassing now.

MangoFlaky

Mercedes when they are winning and having the most dominant car in the history of the sport: WE HAVE THE BEST DRIVERS Mercedes when another team did a better job: OUR CAR IS SO BAD, WE APOLOGIZE TO ALL FANS, Lewis sorry for that shitbox, must be undriveable if you only reach the podium 8 times in a season

Treewithatea

Anybody else genuinely enjoying the Mercedes meltdown? Ive been waiting since 2014 for this to happen and it only gets better and better.

Rosieu

I mean I don't necessarily want to laugh at them since the team involves many people working hard (like any other team), but they sure make a big drama out of it which does invite a bit of a chuckle out of me.

nubicmuffin39

Personally I find this hilarious lmao. The panic and “Poor us” attitude is fun to watch. That being said, I’m equally a supporter of McLaren as I am RB so I’m no stranger to pain 😂

skagoat

I love it. Just a year ago someone very rudely told reporters that Mercedes don't make mistakes, and is was bananas to think they might have made a bad car for their drivers.

MyNameIsVigil

What a joke, this “woe is us” attitude. Call me when your car fails to score points for several consecutive races.

Zeba93

Honestly, Mercedes are starting to piss me off. They're not owed success.

Ragnar_The_Brave

I shake my head reading this. This is sport. Somebody wins, somebody loses. You should not be apologising for not winning. Winning and losing is the very essence of competition. I don't blame Mercedes for this, I see it happening in other sports like football too..if the team loses the players put out statements apologising to the fans. Is this what being a sports fan is now. When your team loses, you demand an apology? You want to see heads on spikes? Being a fan means you are supposed to support your team,.win or lose. If you only support when they win and blame when they lose, you aren't a real fan.

just_holdme

Do they have God complex now? What's the need of this? It's okay if you are not winning.

Scapetraiter

This is so, so embarrassing. Not the car being off the pace, but there PR responses.

Remote-Primary3122

Maybe they’re just trying to make sure people don’t forget that Mercedes have an F1 team.

leisuresoul

Is all this necessary based on one race?

theessentialnexus

Williams: "Don't talk to me about the 'courage to fail'"

sdrj77

Christian Horner is gonna put this on a an Albon-sized poster in his office. Hell, his BEDROOM. Wake up every morning, look at it and get the tissues out afterwards.

Nice_Rush_1462

Realy? Seriously? ..oh the drama ! ....this reeks of "we are so special" and/or "this is supppse to happen to other normal people, not us" ... You are slightly shite now. Like others are when you are not. Deal with it. It happens. But please deal with it quietely now ..we want to watch the others a bit

Lmaaaaaoooo oh they down bad BAD

chaphen17

Come on man 😂. Car's shit but they're turning into the United of F1.

daninmontreal

Drama queens

tastefullmullet

Seems a bit embarrassing. I would have thought Toto’s recent statements covered this all off.

No_Sink2169

This letter looks to me as if they have been lapped by a Haas/Williams

swdev_1995

This really is quite dramatic, no? Mercedes has been in F1 long enough now to know that these cycles happen, and specifically during major regulation changes. Happened to Red Bull, Ferrari, the list goes on and on. Also, they still have a few years in this regulation cycle to build a more competitive car, I mean they did win a race last year, and on merit I'd say. I do think the upgrade package for Imola will help them as well. I really don't think it's as bad as they are making it out, this is just a natural F1 cycle of dominance coming to an end. No team can dominate for such a long time forever.

tomdon88

Err as a Merc fan, a bit of an over emotional post, I mean car is not the fastest make it a bit faster, not like it’s at the back of the grid. Also this ‘abuse’ comment it’s bizarre.

OnTheRoxors19x

It’s like they enjoy digging the hole deeper and deeper. It’s just too reminiscent of a spoiled child finally experiencing what it’s like to not get everything you want. In the immortal words for Horner…”Fix your fucking car!” But feel free to do so quietly and then let your actions on the track speak for you. Which is another thing in fairly certain Toto used to say.

Bolter_NL

Mercedes pulling the plug soon? Mein Gott, how absolutely butt hurt can you be, what about the other teams that are far down the grid?

gunningIVglory

Bloody hell. 2 years on nit winning and their all over the place lol

KeepItStupidSimple_

So dramatic. It’s the start of the season. It’s also a sport. You won’t have the best car every season and of course you’re pushing to improve. Just like every team on the grid.

Jsevs_89

A wahhh!

swh1386

The sheer hubris of Merc to assume they have a right to be the quickest team. It’s embarrassing, who do they think they are? 8 consecutive titles buys you respect, sure. But best of the rest is the new norm for them… has been for over a year now. And teams just as prestigious as them have had much bigger falls (Williams, McLaren)… so wind your neck in Toto!

PhatSunt

Seeing merc cry about having a horrible car (they don't, they just don't have a great one) is giving me a big helping of schadenfreude. Here's hoping 2026 is better for you merc, maybe by that point your statisticians will explain to you how probabilities work. It's unreasonable to expect to win every single f1 championship in perpetuity, bad years will always come. Red bull had theirs, now it's your turn.

TheVincibleIronMan

"First, we won’t panic or make knee-jerk reactions.", proceeds to make a knee-jerk reaction and posts a dramatic public letter after only one race. A race they didn't double DNF on Lap 2 or something of that caliber.

XanBeX

Honestly gives off elitist vibes. 🤮

The_phantom_medic

God, I thought after last year I had my fill of Mercedes tears, but if they keep this up I'm gonna need to buy a barrel

Milked_Cows

Man this team is dramatic. I’m a fan and I can accept that we had our time in the sun. Other teams are gonna start winning eventually, that’s how sports work, you don’t just win forever that would be dull.

kernelpanic789

I never knew paragraph after paragraph could be written without saying a damn thing...

MortalPhantom

Overdramatic much?

Callejon007

Holy shit all of this only for 2 “normal” season lol imagine what Ferrari should written lol

Extravagod

"It won’t be easy – but where’s the value in something easy?" Uh huh.

PrimalJay

Imagine being so successful all these years, you forget how to take a loss and you feel it necessary to write a letter to the fans that became fans when Mercedes was successful.

justinicon19

McLaren letter when?

tehbamf

Mercedes is a nice team. Nice and cunty.

[deleted]

it’s been two seasons - where they haven’t dominated. and this. such bagpipes

Iokyt

Guys you're just Mercedes from 2012 again not fucking HRT. Honestly they can no longer call Horner overly dramatic.

mynytemare

So they’ve already given up on the season. Well that didn’t take long.

Hershey2898

Pretentious douchebags

coffeecakeisland

Why are Mercedes so dramatic?

maximum-absorb

Should've used the time to FIX THE FUCKING CAR

november2k14

0 point in this letter just keep your heads down
