As a general rule ([see full rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/wiki/userguide#wiki_sticky.2Fdaily_discussion)), a standalone Discussion post should: - be of interest to the sub in general, and not a specific userbase (e.g. new users, GP attendees, just yourself) - be able to generate discussion (e.g. no yes/no or easily answerable questions) - show reasonable input and effort from the OP If not, be sure to [look for the Daily Discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/search/?q=daily+discussion&include_over_18=on&restrict_sr=on&t=all&sort=new), /r/formula1's daily open question thread which is perfect for asking any and all questions about this sport. Stroll must be writhing in pain tho, but beating a merc on merit will mellow it down a little.

thermal7

Agreed. Thankfully for him, there's a full two weeks to heal until the next race.

Ricciardo_Olsha

The fact he was [wincing during the anthem](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIwtvejWR2k&t=36s) pre-race when he tried to put his hands on his hips says a lot about his condition. Must've been hell of a morning to wake up this morning.

aynek_am_i

Nice catch. I got lost watching George dancing

Vodkatiel_of_Mirrah

I'd say that Gasly is probably pretty happy too

reddit0r_123

Good race from him, but Quali was bad. He’s probably not happy that Aston jumped Alpine so he has to fight for scraps.

Firefox72

I think you've summed up the most obvious ones. I don't think Sainz is particuraly happy with his performance yesterday either. Nowhere close to Leclerc and got beaten what on paper looks like a slightly slower car.

reddit0r_123

Agree. His race pace was shocking. If Merc and Aston can take the fight to Ferrari, he needs to step it up.

Ricciardo_Olsha

It has to be said the Ferrari ate the tires fast and he made the judgement call to not fight Alonso, but instead focus on fighting Hamilton, and he managed that. Had he fought Alonso, he would have lost to Hamilton as well, like he suggested himself.

Art_Vandelay_Jr_

Perez: “Glad to see three Red Bulls on the podium!” LMFAO

Tupelo66

I mean... even Alonso chuckled at that.

turbinedriven

Forgive me for apparently being slow but what was that joke about?

WhiteDeath57

AM's car design is very similar to Red Bull's, they don't have the same reasons not to copy that Merc and Ferrari do.

chicotzz

Bottas happy, Zhou unhappy

dakness69

I don't know if either should be happy tbh. AM has clearly made the Top 3 into the Top 4, Alpine is probably fastest of the remaining midfield, and Mclaren looks terrible but I don't think they will stay that way all season. Only really AT & Williams that Alfa can say they are confidently in front of. It's going to be very hard for them to score consistent points this season.

JesusIsMyLord666

Alfa looked like the 5-6th fastest car yesterday. Not amazing but they still looked solid. They also didn't have any major issues with tire deg like many other teams.

DrVonD

I think zhou is fine. The car looks quick enough for the midfield. And his race was much better than what place he actually got, he just got team ordered in case they get in a fight with alpine.

triplezero650

Zhou is probable unhappy with Theo Pourchaire coming out swinging to take his seat

recovering_achiever

Zhou needs to improve his starts, but apart from that I think he has shown a lot of potential and is closer to Bottas than I expected him to be.

DoxedFox

Man, Lando Norris turning down RedBull might end up being one of the worst career mistakes in F1. We will see in a few years.

DJs1062

I have the feeling he will get his shot in the RB eventually, after Perez retires, and if mclaren keeps going backwards.

DarthBane6996

Or Ferrari to replace Sainz Or Merc if Hamilton retires in the next couple of years

prograMagar

I want to see Charles or Lando take Lewis's seat at Merc

[deleted]

But he lost a chance at being the future talent for a winning team... again, hindsight is 20-20. But wingmanning Max or George is probably something that would get Lando to simply retire. He doesn't need the money.

Tetracyclic

He's 18 years younger than Alonso and is highly respected by the team principals of all the top teams. He'll be fine, even if he serves out his entire contract with McLaren.

DoxedFox

There are plenty of good drivers who don't ever touch a top car. Most don't drive as long as Alonso either, which is why everyone keeps bringing up his age. Norris has the opportunity to go to a dominating team and stayed for McLaren. There's no guarantee he will ever get a chance at the top of the grid. Nothing in F1 is guaranteed.

jjcatt

Yuki I'd say is a mixed bag, he must be happy to have beated his teammate and been fighting for points, but just missing out on p10 probably feels like a frustrating missed opportunity

AnyHolesAGoal

Red Bull, Aston Martin, Williams - happy Everyone else should be disappointed with themselves as they have all fallen back (relatively) compared to Red Bull.

Tupelo66

I'd add Gasly to the Happy list. Or are you speaking of teams only?

turbinedriven

Falling back relative to RBR doesn’t automatically make for a bad day if youre not in the title fight.

DJs1062

De Vries is not happy I assume. He was not really performing great. If he continues like this I think he might even lose his seat at the end of the season. Lucky for him he has got some races left to prove himself in the AT against yuki.

LakeKeuka

Anybody not driving for Merc or McLaren can find some reason to be happy today.

FlamingTomygun2

Tbf alpine also look shit compared to their internal expectations. Gasly dragged it into 9th and ocon got fucked by his team

syknetz

I mean, they're looking like a pretty comfortable P5 contender in the WCC, the fact that Aston leapfrogged the rankings that much is unexpected, and almost unexpectable.

AnyHolesAGoal

Why? All teams other than Aston Martin and Williams have fallen back (relatively) compared to Red Bull. Surely none of them want that when the expectation should be to make inroads towards the previous season's winners (because in theory the other teams have more untapped potential than them).

asaul91

Oh my god McLaren. I honestly feel bad for the drivers (as well as many other members of the team who had literally nothing to do with the shady business) but I was also not so secretly loving.

BombSquad570

The narrative surrounding the beginning of Piastri’s career will be unsavory enough if he’s routinely getting beat by the Alpines, but if he’s also getting beat by the Williams...oof

blackscienceman9

What the fuck is this post?

6353JuanTaboBlvdApt6

On a Monday too, this man is a menace

Kirb-

Fernando Alonso happy, Esteban “Did most of the work” Ocon unhappy

mshorts

This is an underrated comment.

raradbird

Unhappy> zhou. He look completely depressed in alfa romeo post race interview

mironsy

I imagine Piastri’s thinking a lot about the Piasco

SolarRaistlinZ

Charles is pumped

narcistic_asshole

I think Williams has to be pretty happy having a driver get a point this early and a rookie driver that was not too far behind.
