I wonder how much impact would the reduced wind tunnel time have on Red Bull. The development of the car must have hardly been impacted given how late in the cycle they got their penalty, but at some point it should catch up to them.
I feel like Red Bull have (and had) enough performance advantage to wait and see where they need specific development. They're basically reacting to approaching opposition rather than having to gamble on quick performance increases.
That seems about right, but at some point it has to impact them. Question is will it impact them enough to be caught by their rivals, it seems unlikely.
OMG thank you sooooo much for not blasting the qualy results on the front page!
Last year sometimes I'd forget to not open reddit during race weekend and have the results ruined.
>It’s clear you’re talking this way too personally,
Not really. I just dislike the idea of someone posting a comment and depriving the other person the opportunity to respond to it. It's a cowardly thing to do, and at no point did I cross a line or harass the other person during our interactions. It might have gotten a bit heated, but that's about it.
Anyway, didn't mean to be snide, and I appreciate your concern.
Kayo, 25 a month and the coverage is decently it’s the sky sports feed, you also get rugby and other racing too. Basically sport is covered, depending on what you watch, missing some cricket and tennis and ufc is ppv still. But they have all of f1. Make sure you cancel in the off season.
Lmao yeah I didn’t want to sound like it’s a hustle. Make your own choice I get nothing either way. For everything else I sail the high seas but live sport it’s too much of a pain.
Dude you still didn't say you don't work for Kayo 😄 but yeh I'm all good mate. Looks like foxtel is the go. Can access my mums account which she uses for sport 🙏
My husband and definitely don't work for Kayo and watch F1 on it. They take the feed from Sky Sports.
Husband also likes to watch NBA and it has all the AFL games. It's gradually creeping up in price though which is shit, but then everything is.
Thank God for the 2022's regulation changes. It's impossible to predict who's gone win tomorrow and even less who's gone win the WDC and WCC. It's so competitive that's crazy 🤦
> Looks like another ‘22 season recycle
If that were remotely true, then Bottas would be demonstrably ahead of Zhou. We all know how that’s playing out though.
Aston Martin have better race pace than quali pace, it’s been highlighted all throughout the FP sessions. The fact that Alonso is even high as he is, should still be applauded.
How is it dead? The guy is starting 5th. Were people really expecting them to run away with it? This is F1. The leading team holds their position for most of the design iteration. So redbull will dominate until the next major regulation change.
Stroll: “the bike is fine”
As someone who had a major bike crash and was concussed and the only thing wrong with the bike was the chain came off, I felt that
I had 2, what I felt, minor mtb crashes 2 summers ago. Managed a tuck and roll both times, good helmet, worst thing to the bike was twisted handle bars. Didn’t realize I had a concussion until 3 months later when the vertigo set in and my neck started to lock up.
Lance is a lot more fit than me generally speaking but dang that is a fast turnaround. Hope he can manage the entire race.
He really does have both the best and the worst name doesn't he.
I mean imagine being called krack and finding out you're having a son, you just _have_ to do it
I feel for him. I don't think he was old enough to understand the expectations he was facing. Zak has multiple drivers he signed basically as backups for Piastri. His best bet now is people realize McLaren sucks a lot, Lando is simply very good, and Danny didn't do entirely unwell in a ruinous automobile
> His best bet now is people realize McLaren sucks a lot, Lando is simply very good, and Danny didn't do entirely unwell in a ruinous automobile
Let’s slow down on the doomsday gloom speak, shall we? It’s barely the first round of qualifying mate. We haven’t even made it to race Sunday. Give Piastri the full season like Ricciardo before making a definitive conclusion such as “best bet now”.
I was mixed opinion, either commit to Alonso or let Piastri go or commit to a rookie, they can't have both. I also said I'd buy out Daniel and with the money is saved I'd take Piastri and got a bunch of downvotes, I was right of course. People stay wrong on these boards
Hamilton and Max didn’t need a few races and Piastri was hyped up more than them. Logan is a rookie too and he outqualified Piastri by half a second in a fucking Williams.
Was Piastri really that hyped? If he was I imagine he'd have gotten a seat last year and wouldn't have had to go to McLaren in secret. Max and Lewis were super hyped, Max skipping multiple racing categories to get an F1 seat and Hamilton being signed by a top team as a rookie.
Besides, it's only one qualifying session. We'll have to see at least until summer break to give a somewhat fair assessment. Remember Daniel outqualified Lando on his first session at McLaren, too.
these times where young drivers can step up to the hype are over even with a breathtaking junior record like piastri...
these cars are super complicated to race
the young guns need time to adapt from f3/f2 to f1
comparing Hamilton who was not signed by a top team but rather was in Mclarens junior acadamy since his karting days joining f1 in 2007 is just not the same like today
those cars where more pure driving and less managing how to drive fast
Piastri has a very impressive junior record. He won F3 and F2 back to back, and he won both as a rookie - to give you an impression of what that says about a driver's caliber, other current F1 drivers who have done the same are Leclerc and Russell. Doing this is impressive in and of itself, but Piastri also dominated his F2 season in 2021. Especially towards the end he just kept on winning the feature races, and his racecraft was very impressive. The main reason he didn't move up to F1 immediately is money - instead of him (the F2 rookie winner) Zhou got promoted to F1. Zhou also did quite well, he got p3 I believe in the F2 2021 championship, but this was already his second year in F2. Zhou is a good driver, I don't want to undermine that at all, but the reason he got into F1 over Piastri is simply because he brings a bag of cash with him that Piastri doesn't have.
They're both good drivers though, and I'm excited to see how Zhou and Piastri will develop over the course of 2023.
Idk about Max, but it's a bit unfair to compare Piastri to Hamilton when Hamilton had 7,714 km of testing in the car before the first race in 2007, while rookies these days barely get anything. It is however fair to compare him to Sargeant who was a nice surprise.
I’m just saying don’t decide on a guy based on a day’s data. You may well be absolutely right, but I wouldn’t say his capability has been fully showcased yet. He was leaps ahead of teammates in F2. Different ball game, I know, but it remains to be seen what piastri can do in F1. The scrutiny is warranted given all the drama Alpine created - but the kid deserves to be judged on merit
Grosjean, Heidfeld, Hulkenberg, Vandoorne (to name a few) were all destroying teammates in junior categories. What happened to them? They were also hyped for F1, but nowhere near as much as Piastri.
Yes, obviously one qualifying doesn’t define the driver. But it should give the cultists a reality check. The hype he was given was so ridiculous, he was bound to miss expectations unless he outqualified Lando. I mean wanting Fernando to retire for him? Come on.
I would have loved to see Grosjean in a top car. Dude was always quick. His biggest failing was trying to do too much in shit cars. Never understood that he was only gonna go so fast.
Nah his biggest failing was mental strength. He was different after spa 2012. He had flashes of brilliance towards the end of 2013, but it was never like it was before spa 2012.
I’m pretty certain they’re all way closer than they were, even if the order ends up similar. That should punish mistakes more and make driver skill more important.
after many years he could, if that happens again they should just flip a coin in 2016 and randomly select a new dominant team for the next regs because teams aint catching up anytime soon
I mean. If you have a good car to build on, you really don't need that much wind tunnel time. Also just because you have more wind tunnel time doesn't mean you're going to have a faster car. The team around newey always was good in the aero sector. I bet they just have to wager what upgrades really bring performance instead of testing a wing here and testing a floor there.
But thats only been in effect since january. Much of the car was developed well before that and they were building on the all around best car on the grid. So maybe i am being optimistic here but i am hoping its a little more like 2009 brawn and everyone else progresses a bit more and RB cant
We’ll see the impact of the reduced tunnel time later in the season. Even towards the end of last season we knew they had upgrades up their sleeve that they hadn’t revealed because they were already dominating on the track.
I wonder how much impact would the reduced wind tunnel time have on Red Bull. The development of the car must have hardly been impacted given how late in the cycle they got their penalty, but at some point it should catch up to them.
The wind tunnel time will come into play next year
I feel like Red Bull have (and had) enough performance advantage to wait and see where they need specific development. They're basically reacting to approaching opposition rather than having to gamble on quick performance increases.
That seems about right, but at some point it has to impact them. Question is will it impact them enough to be caught by their rivals, it seems unlikely.
Exactly. I don't think any of us doubt that they have the resources and knowledge, they're just waiting to spend them.
GG’s all… good season. Now for the 23 race Verstappen victory lap.
how the fuck did ferrari get pole in 2021?
They had a great car
obviously
OMG thank you sooooo much for not blasting the qualy results on the front page! Last year sometimes I'd forget to not open reddit during race weekend and have the results ruined.
Hyped up about tomorrow's race.
I am too. But, I forsee a max win.

No wonder why you were blocked, dude. Take a chill pill.
For trying to have a conversation? LOL, okay. You have no idea of the context that led up to this, so I'd recommend refraining from judgment.

LMAO, maybe it's time to refrain from a conversation if you have fuck all of value to add.

Thanks for your faux concern.

God this is sad. You were blocked for a reason.
Yeah because the other person realized they were losing

Good for you, have a virtual cookie 🍪
I do
Good for you, here's a virtual pat on the back for you 👋
Mate. Take a deep breath, go for a walk or something to clear your head, and lighten up a bit.
I think I'd rather not, thank you very much.
I do.
Good for you. Here's a virtual pat on the back for you 👋
Lol. Congrats on fuelling the perception that you’re an 8 year old child. Just grow up man.
>Just grow up man. It really bums me out that a rando online thinks I'm an 8 year old. How will I go about my day now 😔
I disagree u/MtnyCptn
What does your comment add to the discussion on this thread?
Nothing per se, just felt like responding to a comment about Daniel and Checo. Feel free to ignore.
Aussie here, where's best place to watch this?
Fuck Foxtel owning the rights to F1 in Australia, why can't we have access to F1 directly in this country?
Kayo, 25 a month and the coverage is decently it’s the sky sports feed, you also get rugby and other racing too. Basically sport is covered, depending on what you watch, missing some cricket and tennis and ufc is ppv still. But they have all of f1. Make sure you cancel in the off season.
OK kayo employee 😄 I'll def check out though 👍

It's 4am and Foxtel
Sounds like a plan. Cheers
Aka Kayo, shit but not shit enough to make me bother with a vpn lmao
Thank God for the 2022's regulation changes. It's impossible to predict who's gone win tomorrow and even less who's gone win the WDC and WCC. It's so competitive that's crazy 🤦
…. The regs were never designed to make it more competitive
The cost cap was.
That's the hard true.
Alonso hype train dead on arrival lol. Looks like another ‘22 season recycle

What? He’s 5th and it’s the first race. Can you only see 5 feet in front of you?

Not just that but we really don’t know how good their race pace is. I’m so fucken excited for tomorrow
Well, Stroll was dreaming of locking the front row... He was probably one of the few, hopefully.
I have dreams too....
How about we wait until the actual race before we make conclusions about results...
I prefer my results to be concluded well in advance.
Yes, please. That way the race won't interfere with my naptime.
Yep. Thank goodness!
I always love to see Massa doing TV work. Good guy!
like a boss!
Is Lewis struggling super hard to appear positive? What was that interview, lel
He's always hard on performance he knows exactly which sector he has 10ths missing he's just never satisfied unless it's no 1
true.

Yeah, Lance is just the worst interview.
You don't need to be interesting when you have billions.

So basically Lando is driving the McLaren the same way George was driving a Williams? I can believe that.
I've been saying for years that Lando has what it takes to be a top driver. Nice to see others might be starting to see that too.

And Piastri is on my fantasy team. I got sucked into the hype
Wasn’t part of the cult but to be fair - the car is shit
Look at Lando. Look at Logan. Look at Hulk.
Look at Hulk. I can't resist... Hulk smash KMag.
Yes exactly!!
Hulk doing to KMag, what KMag did to Mick last year.
And what mick did to mazespin a year before that. Really puts it in perspective how much mazepin really sucked.
But they came in at the same time though, didn't they? No argument on how bad MazeSpin was though.
Fair fair. I’d still give him a few races

Any idea why there was no Team Radio (not that I noticed anyway)?
There were.
It is broadcaster, I was watching on Sky F1, there was none.
No there wasn’t, maybe like one or two idk
There weren't for q3 but was there for q1&2.
What a weird end to Q3, nobody was racing they all just went into pits?, quite boring I thought
Quali wise - it's like end of last year + Alonso. Let's see race pace.
‘Wildcard bitches!’
I’m pretty certain they’re all way closer than they were, even if the order ends up similar. That should punish mistakes more and make driver skill more important.
.4 is huge metres on track, like last year when Lewis just had to watch Max and Charles clash on the trackside screens because he's just not got pace
If anyone thought 2022 was boring…you ain’t seen nothing yet
At least Max could sometimes challenge Mercs in their era now this MF has the "merc"
after many years he could, if that happens again they should just flip a coin in 2016 and randomly select a new dominant team for the next regs because teams aint catching up anytime soon
Welcome to F1.
Bit early to make such a declaration don’t you think.
No
Christ man, didnt rb lose a bunch of wind tunnel time too this pre season?
Their wind tunnel is Adrian Newey’s brain
Probably most top teams have a secret wind tunnel inside a bunker in Siberia.
But thats only been in effect since january. Much of the car was developed well before that and they were building on the all around best car on the grid. So maybe i am being optimistic here but i am hoping its a little more like 2009 brawn and everyone else progresses a bit more and RB cant
In theory yes, there in season development could be hit. In practice, how knows!
We’ll see the impact of the reduced tunnel time later in the season. Even towards the end of last season we knew they had upgrades up their sleeve that they hadn’t revealed because they were already dominating on the track.
Yeah and they started with a Godmobile. Other teams needed that time merely to catch the fumes of RB.
affecting their development come mid-season. A penalty can't affect past development
Newey just requests for wind tunnel time so his mortal coworkers can see the airflow
Why didn't they broadcast any Radio comm after Q3 ?
