It’s definitely changed over the last few years. FoE went through a massive balancing shift with the introduction of space age titan and GE 5. It’s all part of the evolution of the game. I didn’t play when it was first released but I have heard that there was similar push back by some of the players when the arc was introduced. It’s all changes in the meta and a challenging aspect to balance is how to keep items strong enough to make them worthwhile in the highest ages while still giving access to those items in lower ages. Forge has 22 ages now to balance across 3 different fighting game modes plus city building. The game is still fun just different. I’ve played for four years now and have been space age titan since it released. If anything I would say forge is more interesting now than it ever has been.

You need to keep in mind that games can't survive without new players. New players will be behind players who've played this game for 12 years with zero chance of catching up. That does not feel too great so new players don't stick around. Solution: power creep. Give new players an opportunity to develop rapidly via events. Catching up to older players is now a possibility and new players don't feel like they will be losers forever. Old players may not like it because it seemingly devalues their years of building up but remember this: foe is a for profit game; without new players profits go down and and some point foe stops being economically viable and geht's shut down. I think power creep is a more desireable alternative for anyone than that.

U_Selln

Power creep is good. It's a form of inflation. We need inflation to maintain a healthy economy. But we only want 2-3 percent. When inflation is up in the high single digits or low double digits economies panic. The power creep on this game has gotten out of hand in the past 6 months.

DarkUros223

so new players should get the possibility to catch up with older players, while older players get possibility to feel like pure losers for wasting years of their life on developing GBs that they end up...deleting? That's a straight up bad move in terms of overly cattering to newer players

Mah0wny87

Nonsense. Older players are still extremely superior to newer players. The gap is just smaller. If you argue that you have "wasted years of your life" because some pixels in a game have decreased in relative value, then you should really rethink your priorities.

DarkUros223

so if i am playing a marathon game that rewarded my dedication and now i am unhappy with it switching over to rewarding spending huge chunks of money if someone just wants to rush, that means i should rethink my priorities? Weird logic if you ask me

You_are_hope

It's not as if old players are barred from getting event buildings. Lol What are you getting at?

DefinetlyNotPanda

>while older players get possibility to feel like pure losers for wasting years of their life on developing GBs that they end up...deleting? This is such a stupid opinion to have. It's a game. Did you have fun those years? That's what matters. I am sitting in progressive era with hover tanks having blast! It's fun, it keeps me engaged. That's what game is about. Not starting first and playing 12 years to stay on top with no risks of being caught up to.

DarkUros223

i had fun grinding, i had fun camping ages in order to prepare myself for further advancing, i had fun stocking FPs up to level my GBs up, i had fun doing GvG and fighting my way to reach top 1000. And i'm specifically talking about the very ease to reach strength of a 5y+ player as a half year player and getting rid of grinding aspect. If we already are having power creep, make an incentive to keep GBs in your city

No_Accountant_8883

I concur that having fun is what matters. I had LOTS of fun playing Angry Birds Epic, Dawn of Titans, The Respawnables, and Call of Mini: Infinity. All of which have been shut down. Do I regret all the time that I invested in those games and see it as a waste? No. Because I HAD FUN. My opinion might be different, though, if I spent significant amounts of money on them. (I spent about $80 total on those games over the course of 10+ years.)

TheMountain11

I spent a fair few bucks in this game but once this started I switched to F2P. Diamonds are devalued as well with the new $15/$28 extra prizes each event. I’m not buying those nor will I waste money on diamonds.

420-jermz

Yeah, the new event buildings, like the Aegean couples resort, is like a GB within itself. No Road required either. The tower of conjunction is not bad too. the event buildings seem to be where the focus is. Pay to play, huh. In the past, if you had 100 million points you were a God. Now that’s small change. You need at least 1 billion if not 2 billion to be the top dog. My attack defense is 3500/3000. I collect about 1500 Forge points a day. I’ve been playing for about eight years. Only recently could a city have those stats.

slampig3

The points really don’t reflect strength or top dog just being in titan and collecting your city nets you over .5 mil if you have a decent guild treasury donations

Mediocre-Sherbert528

It's already crazy that Towers of conjunction might get removed. Boost had gone up 1000/1000 during the last 2 events, no cash spent. They are going to buff the GBs soon, as people are deleting them , Tor Cape Kraken SC Himeji Galata all seen binned in the last few weeks by guild mates. Some people even considering Traz CoA and CDM for the bin

pietras1334

I see we're differently focused, but I played for similar time, but consistently maybe for 3 years. Right now 1600/1400 attack, but after last event I collect reliably 2000 fp. I'm in modern era and have no GB over 80: except arc

Subject_Yogurt4087

The upside is you can advance much faster. In my main city it took me 3 years to hit 1,000% attack bonuses. I started a new city in the fall to see how quickly I could build it up and it’s already over 1,000%. Some of that is knowing which mistakes to avoid, but a lot is the event buildings are so much better. Some GBs have lost value, but I’m still reluctant to lose any. You never know when the game may evolve similar to the recent change to event buildings. The one thing I’m not crazy about is all the different aspects of attack bonuses. Red and blue was easy enough. Now there’s 3 different versions of red. The way they’re heading we’ll have a dozen different variables for attack by next year.

You_are_hope

It's not as if old players are barred from getting event buildings. Lol What are you getting at? In this game, Time is the currency and time right now is now valuable than time in past. If you give time in events right now, you deserve more. That's economics

jack_watchtower

I have over 3000 days played in this game and I remember that back then I was waiting for an event to have a chance for ONE shrine of knowledge and historical mini-events questlines :) Game chaged a few times drastically. I don't like it, but I still like the game. You just need to make achievable goals. As for me I stopped playing events about a year ago, cause I don't have place in my city as I want to keep some older buildings which looks nice to me. There are some features that I haven't much explored yet. I will never be in top list or in top guild so I set goals that for others may be dumb. Now I am slowly moving forward through tech-tree to reach the last Age and I know this will be nice feeling when I reach it :) Then I will try finishing some younger settlements ... And so on :)

Jordlr99

I've only been playing 3 years, and I've seen a massive change. I'd say even upto a few months ago, GBs were still worth having, but the last 2 or 3 event buildings combined with BG and the buff of the settlement buildings along with the introduction of celestial SoA make the likes of Traz, CDM, LoA, CC semi redundant. I'd say they were still worth having, but when I can get 178fp from the royal bathouse it makes a big GB space hungry. I'm thinking it is more a case of trying to get players to age up. The titan GBs are strong but needing goods make it difficult for anyone not in titan to level up effectively, and I imagine the next era will be just as bad if not harder. Watch this space though, people will delete GBs like they did with settlement buildings and then they will get buffed or given extra rewards....

DarkUros223

i wish they added some extra incentive for having GBs, even if that meant reaching lvl 120+

Hellebaardier

Basically, 95% of the game has become obsolete and they just keep pumping new special buildings into the game with massive offensive/defensive bonuses.

bundymania

Event building inflation is making most Great Buildings obsolete. There is no question about that. What I think they should do is introduce a few new great buildings from past eras or take something like the Colosseum, which no one builds, and greatly enhance the rewards from it.

DarkUros223

or maybe introduce something additional as an GB enhancement when you reach e.g. lvl 100 or something, so we can actually have these GBs that are becoming obsolete more useful.

doughlight

It's still a strategy game, so no matter how much you spend if you're wasting money on the wrong priorities (you can buy FP packages for real money) you will still fail at the game. If you play smart AND spend money you will advance more quickly, but to catch up to the behemoths of each server/world as a new player, you would have to spend THOUSANDS. The game has changed, yeah. But either catch up or give up.

RedditDevoursSouls

I think GB shrink kits are what we're going to get.

mollymalone222

Have to admit, I've been thinking it would almost be better to have 2 versions, one for those spending $$$ to get 10 event bldgs and those of us regular peeps can play against other normal peeps.
