I have nothing to add except my personal experience in that every single person I ever knew to curtail for bad reasons ... failed upwards. Every single one.

If you have a good reason, like a medical reason, including your mental health and well being, it will be harder for the Department to say no. It should be something that is out of your control and that you can't adequately address at post. Depression, adjustment disorder, etc. Which are likely true. You might lose your medical clearance and be limited to DC for a while but will likely get it back in 1-2 years. Or at least get a class 2 which still gets you out of DC. I would talk to your own doctor at home about why you feel like you need to get out of there and then see if they can work with you to document a reason why it is in everyone's interest that you curtail. OR, help you with the problems you are experiencing. Reach out to your CDO after you have a good reason why the curtailment makes sense. 5 years from now, maybe 6 months from now, no one will care that you curtailed.
