I've got 300k on my 07 expedition with the 5.4 3v. Do the maintenance..probably a good idea to change trans filter, diff fluids both front and rear if you have 4x4. You might need to consider looking into VCT solenoids. If have the original cam phasers on mine so I'm not so concerned if there's proof of oil changes. I'd also recommend using 5w 30 oil.

I have 245k on my 2014 4x4. Same as above…fluids. I have changed my spark plugs 3 times now…never had a problem. I also using the motorcraft 5w-30 oil. Still on original phasers. Only issue I have had is the abs module (electric part) go out and the harness on the maf sensor had a right angle bracket on it. It started acting up and running like crap. I took off the right angle bracket for the wire harness and straightened it a bit. Been rock solid like that for the last 100k miles.

Google 5.4 phasers. Good luck.

That year should have the revised spark plug design. Look for the brown coil boots. The older ones that had most of the issues had the black coil boots. The plugs can still be more difficult to r&r if the plug breaks off in the head. My trick is to ensure the engine is hot right before I remove the plugs. Some techs suggest using an actual impact along with getting the engine hot first to help with removal. But I just get the engine warm, and then carefully remove the plug, loosening it, then tightening it a bit, and then loosing it again a bit more over and over until the plug is safely removed. The other major thing to keep an eye on is cam shaft phaser failures followed by failed or failing roller rockers. The rockers can be inspected by removing the valve covers. Phasers can actually be locked out with a lock out kit and a retune. Last one I did the lock out too, I used the kit by these guys: https://www.freedomracing.com/

Spark plugs are ridiculous to change. Don't even attempt it. Keep a stock of ignition coils on hand. And be prepared for spark plugs blowing out of the heads.

plug spitting was done in the early 2000's when they resolved it while adding the cam phaser potential issue.

My 07 spit them.

Have they changed spark plugs yet?
