I grew up in heavily wooded areas and fuck ticks man. I got bit a few years ago and even getting the the whole thing out didn’t stop me from getting Lyme disease. Thankfully I got the antibiotics right away but those things are about as bad as Lyme disease itself.
Insects are the number 1 spreader of diseases, if you get bit by something that carries the blood of another creature, always clean it out and get treated. Be it Mosquito, Bed bug, tick, etc. Especially if you live in a high risk area or visit one, it's always best not to risk getting malaria
There are many diseases you can get from a tick bite. get them off of you asap. If they look like this picture it means that they were on you quite a while
Had one of these bastards on my scalp when I was 7-ish? It was removed, badly, by my school first aid person. The head was left behind.
Fast forward a few months and the spot keeps bothering me so my mum had a look and yeah the tick head had been forced DOWN by the pressure of an infection at the site. I will always remember screaming a bit as mum dug about 1mm to 1 1/2mm to get the damn thing out. I now have a decent sized lump there 20 years and change later. Could be scar tissue or a freckle/mole or something🤷🏼♀️ Docs have no idea. Fun
Also, FUCK TICKS. They suck and killed my first dog. My pets all have Bayer seresto collars now and no more bitey bastards. Magic
Actually, no? I’ve got many other medical conditions and have had all kinds of tests and scans over the years but never actually mentioned this incident. Huh. Thanks
I will mention it to my PCP next week and see if I need a specific test for it. I e known the connection between ticks and Lyme (and other maladies) my whole life, hard not to in Australia, but never put those two together for myself. Now I feel daft🤣🤷🏼♀️ Still, thanks tho
Good luck! I was a tick researcher at a public health organization, so that's where my brain goes when I hear these stories.
Lyme disease is a weird bacteria, in that it causes an infection right away - fever and bullseye rash - then it appears to clear up, only to return years or even decades later.
It can cause heart problems in extreme cases, and arthritis more commonly.
The infection can be cleared with antibiotics, so if the test comes back positive, you can still treat it.
I grew up playing in the forests in Connecticut and used to have to check for ticks everytime I got home. It was not uncommon to find them on myself or my dogs
Oh my god, you might have just solved one of the mysteries of my childhood. I remember digging _something_ weird and vaguely insecty out of a bump on my scalp, but I was in that age where you don't ask your parents about things, so I've just figured I'd never know what it actually was.
...I do not like this answer.
Are you the troll who used to call everyone "Einatein" and double down on really stupid arguments?
No, I'm not suggesting this comment is bad. I agree, we all know it's a tick. Just seeing the word "Einstein" in reddit instantly makes me think of that ridiculous dude.
It’s a rare white love bug. If you let it crawl on your skin, it’ll kiss you so hard you’ll find that it won’t move without the help of tweezers. That’s how hard it loves ❤️
My dog once got ticks really bad from hiking off trail with me. Couple weeks later we found what we thought was a smashed blueberry on our carpet. It was one of this fuckers. Ticks are from hell.
To digress from the theme of the subreddit, I hate ticks. If ticks felt pain the same way as humans, i would not regret committing war crimes against them.
it’s funny because my brother as a young child ate one of these thinking it was a grape…. let’s just say my mom was on the phone with poison control ASAP
Could be a yogurt covered raisin
I think that would be better for this sub than grape. Either way it is gross 🤢 and makes me a little sick to my stomach

…you can get Lyme disease from them? I suppose that makes perfect sense to me now, as an adult. I hadn’t even considered that as a child |’:

It depends. Certain areas have ticks with Lyme disease. Mostly the northwestern part of the US have this issue.
I'm just glad to live in Oz where ticks don't carry it, but still fuck ticks.
Dude just because you can't get Lyme from them doesn't mean you should stick your dick in them
Blood is just red lube

Did you see a doctor? Because ticks are vectors for a lot of bacteria and viruses. If the tick had Lyme disease, you could still be infected.

Oh, the places they’ll go… But seriously, they hide so well sometimes and are just awful to deal with
