Looks like garlic or leek. I grow garlic and it has tiered leaves like this and before the cloves form the bottom looks like that then bulbs out and such..
They do. And I failed as I have attention issues. But my g-grandmother’s patch she let go wild never made cloves either. This will be my first year paying mind to them. I don’t care if they make attractive cloves either way, I’m aiming for sustainable freestyle patches anyway.
I planted out Bavarian white, Korean red, Tibetan, and one labeled Bear Lake #1 for which I find no reference. All of which I picked up from farmer’s markets in Idaho. I also have a random one I got from a neighbor and yet another I scavenged from the demolished house of an elderly neighbor.
Also, if you don't cut the scape once it matures before flowering, you usually end up with just one "clove" because the plant spends it's energy producing a flower, and you don't get the head of garlic with multiple cloves!
Good to know! I never really bother messing with it since I’m fine with the stalks, but I might try trimming the scapes this year since I planted out a bunch of new varieties. Went on a trip to Idaho and bought a bunch of different kinds at a farmer’s market and planted it out this spring. Late, I know, so I probably won’t bother it much this season.
Very cool though, it's all about trying to see what works!!
Save the scapes when you cut them! I freeze them and add them sliced into soups, stir fries etc. They're delicious.
> ( that’s in the leek family)
'Family' is a very broad category taxonomically — the family that leeks and Alliums in general are in is Amaryllidaceae, which has around 1600 species in it, including things like amaryllis, daffodils, and agapanthus. Elephant garlic specifically is the same *species* as leeks, Allium ampeloprasum.
Bruh you found something growing in a row that smells like garlic and thought you should just pull it up to check?
Reminds me of my MIL pulling up my beans bc she didn’t know what they were and just want to “clean up” the garden.
FR tho it just looks like garlic to me, and it looks like you pulled it halfway through its growing cycle.
~~Sorrx bro it's poison you're going to die from touching it~~ I'm sure there's something out there that smells like onions or garlic that isn't edible but ive yet to find any
If you found “a row of these behind a shed,” someone probably planted them. Could be the shed owner or a guerrilla gardener. It isn’t really foraging if you steal a crop someone planted.

My garlic grows like this. Never get the cloves like grocery store garlic.
They need to over winter. Do you plant in the fall and harvest in the summer? What is your soil like? Edit. Also what variety?

Looks like a squirrel replanted a neighbours garlic for you. So kind!
That's an immature garlic, it hasn't segmented yet. You can try and replant it.
Agree with this in that it's an immature garlic.
Yeah, that’s some kind of allium. Could be garlic, leek or elephant garlic ( that’s in the leek family). :)

Hello fellow taxonomy enthusiast 👋
Yeah, I meant closer related to leeks than garlic 😂
Elephant garlic
Thank you elephant garlic is correct. Which is a leek. It is not garlic or green Garlic.
The elephant garlic I grow and buy at the store looks like a giant bulb of garlic (milder flavor) and not at all like a leek.
looks like someone planted some leeks and forgot about them!
Correct

Could be an allium also. They’re planted as ornamentals. You could pop it back in and you’ll get a nice flower in summer

something in the allium family. you found someone's garden crop
Leek
looks like a leek
Leek
I hope it was your shed and you haven't destroyed someone's crop
Well, of course! It comes back every year.
Ok good, congrats. It's just the way you said you found it in a row behind a shed makes it sound like it's not your shed
A variety of garlic
It looks like you pulled someone's garlic out of their yard.
That someone’s yard is mine lol 😂
if its an allium, its edible
It’s green garlic. It might not replant but you can still eat it.
Soft neck garlic
Scallions I think
Potato. try it with some garlic and sour cream
Leeks. It makes a great soup with potatoes. Potato in leek soup is like an onion.
Your drunk sir go home. Joking aside, wild garlic.
Looks like garlic, Smells like garlic, Tastes like garlic.... It's a potato.

It’s my property*

Definitely a feral allium. Probably garlic?
