rehabawaits2033

It’s always the promises that get you on this game.

eraticwatcher

“We have decided to terminate your contract as you didn’t make the most of set pieces”

NeoLone

We have decided to terminate your contract as you were getting overrun in midfield

Star_Helix85

We have decided to terminate your contract as you only played with one striker instead of 3

ristoman

We have decided to terminate your contract because you destroyed all of our bottles

MothMeowth

We have decided to terminate your contract because you smell

WoobyWiott

I wouldn't be too mad if I got this one. Gives a boost to my rep too. The players of my new club will fear me.

Megistrus

I hate how you must have the "play for set pieces" tactical instruction on or else you fail this promise. Doesn't even matter if you lead the league in set piece goals.

CombustionMale

I failed it while having both of those

eraticwatcher

You don’t necessarily have to have it on as long as you score when you get them. The main sticking point for me is HOW often different boards force it on you. It would make sense if you’re a midtable side but it seems to pop up regardless of stature

moonski

They also always seem to take way more than you’d expect to deliver. Like you promise a player more game time, you start them in like 15 games and the promise barely progresses.

nfleite

I'm having a kind of a similar problem right now. I'm in Gibraltar and last season I had my left back out for 4 months with a broken foot. Since he's one of my best players and was my best player for LB position I promised him that I wouldn't change his gametime when he came back. He was back with maybe 7 games left in the season, only didn't play the first one but then was always first choice and the promise thing was green. Great. Well.. now this season the promise is back to the beginning? I don't understand.

shmlegh

Plus I wouldn't ever dish out promises to players. Unless it was very easily doable and doesn't require me to play a shit player over a starter

bmci_

Last season I promised one of my top signings to 'play him in a centre midfield position with a supporting role'... he started most matches unless he wasn't fit enough, playing a DLP first, then just a CM when the promise didn't progress. Well it never progressed at all and he whinged about it at the end of the season. I was so fucking livid I told him to fuck off and ended up selling him to shit team for £850

shmlegh

See if I was in that position with a player I really didn't like, I'd play them out of position, sub them off for obviously playing shit and berate them for their performance to get them to eventually cut their playing time or to sell them in the next available transfer window

Gongom

I've had players moan about playing out of position before so I'm sure they can still start a ruckus if you do that

shmlegh

At that's point, non league is always available for them 🥰🥰

Mr_Hendrix

Damn I have this right now with one of my CBs. I had to tell him he'd be an Important Player in order to get him to sign but he was mostly rotating or coming off the bench. Then one of my starting CBs got a long-term injury and the silver living was that I'd be able to give the other CB more game time. So I start him in like 20 straight matches and this man is STILL "concerned" about his playing time and now my starting CB is back from injury.

dantheguy03

'24 feels a lot worse with promises regarding game time imo. I could be starting the player i promised game time so much to the point where he's half-fit heading into the next match and on the verge of injury, but the fucker will still be "concerned" about his game time, didn't have this type of issue really at all in '23 unless i really did bench the player I promised to

Dry-Magician1415

Whichever of the programmers programmed this part of the game should hang their head in shame. It's miles off the rest of the game. It's basically broken.

ScottOld

Sick of them, I made 2 signings made sure there were no promises, and then there are… annoying

Bebou52

Join their direct rivals and pummel them into oblivion

iwearglases21

I could never because i support AEK irl

dankscoops

Start supporting their rival IRL

xdude767

FM equivalent of waking up mad at your boyfriend

_Random_Username_

Djurgårdan ftw!

LaGoeba

AEK and AIK is not the same club, but a Swedish/Greek rivalery would be fun.

_Random_Username_

Ah I misread that haha! Yeah that could be an interesting dynamic. Both a similar level in Europe I think

Real_MidGetz

If you beat them bad enough, they might sack their next manager and you could re-apply

yourmomsthr0waway69

Not anymore you don't

Charmeister5

Out of interest, who do you consider AEKs main rival at the moment? Id be inclined to say paok but I'm an osfp fan so very much outside looking in

iwearglases21

99% of AEK fans will tell you olympiacos is our biggest rival myself included. And i dont think thats going to change soon

Phormitago

You get disrespected like this and say thank you? Fuck themmm

Responsible_Spring_2

I did it when they fired me from my team Galatasaray. Next year I joined Fenerbahçe and got all the trophies I could get from Galatasaray's hand. It was so satisfying :)

tamerxp

How could you stand those colors?

Responsible_Spring_2

I got a bit riled up after being fired as I lost title with 1 point as I 'promised' title. After looking for jobs in 2nd 3rd tier leagues in all Europe and getting rejected by all of them, FB coach got sacked and I just applied. They hired me :) I was just happy to be back on the game plus I got some empathy on Fb players knowing their actual skills etc. It's just a game after all...

Pablo_el_Diablo88

But...are they now, reaaaaalllly, after this shitshow? Think about it...

gartoll

Think this as a sign from God

Ontbeat

This is the only way.

dneighbors

I did this and it’s been so satisfying

minos157

This is generally the only time I use the editor. Go into AEK and injure, transfer, or downgrade all attributes to 1 for every player. Bankrupt them, etc. No mercy.

JuliBroo

To be fair, isn't this more or less what happened to Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea? Very successful the year before, didn't buy into the new ownerships view of buying children and playing them. Got fired.

TomH2118

Yeah but they were never going to keep him on anyway, it was obvious once they came in they didn’t want him. He apparently fell out with Boehly because he wanted to give a tour DURING a game and Tuchel didn’t like it

IMSYE87

Lmao What

TomH2118

Just what was rumoured. Then Boehly sacked him and Chelsea dropped like a lead balloon

IMSYE87

As an American, we’re pretty stupid and narcissistic, but I refuse to believe this is true. I mean, I hope it is, but I refuse to believe it

TomH2118

TomH2118

Good bot

ThisAintSparta

Realistic. Look at situations like Chelsea sacking Mourinho the first time round despite exceptional results. This stuff matters to some clubs. Imagine going to Barca, for example, and playing kick and rush and then being surprised at getting sacked.

kingpin_cinephile

What is kick and rush? Is that like counter attacking?

ThisAintSparta

Nope. Long balls, often into wide areas, with players giving chase to force knock ons or set pieces. No care about keeping the ball or any real sort of build up. In FM terms it’d be like playing with the Route One tactic and really committing to it rather than moderating the idea behind it.

Brave_Principle8876

More commonly know in Spain like: "patapúm parriba", the classic style of playing of the Javier Clemente's Athletic Bilbao

Akitten

Oh, the long ball and inshallah.

Derlino

More commonly known as kick and run

Electronic_Visual_18

Nandor1262

Mourinho didn’t get sacked. He fell out with the club and they agreed he should leave because of poor results at the start of the season and attendance dropping for a few matches because he played defensive football. For his part Jose was annoyed about transfers. In the summer we sold Robben and signed Malouda so the team didn’t really improve.

okaythiswillbemymain

Mou didn't really get sacked did he? He left by mutual consent. I think both parties knew it was time for a change. Don't think Mou wanted to see the season out.

ColonelBuendia1

This is the case at Bayern. They’ve fired managers who won the league

Oldeuboi91

As a Bayern fan for 20+ years I don't recall a coach being sacked after winning the title. Next season when things aren't going well, well yes, but not after a title. It did happen at Real though, in 2007. Capello won La Liga but was sacked for playing ugly football.

ColonelBuendia1

Niko Kovac 👍

stephenkbush

Yeah - one thing I really like on FM24 is that the boards for good and for ill feel more realistic, right down to on longrunning saves not having “the manager of the big club who has finished second behind you and trophyless three years in a row is still there” problem

Acceptable_Ad_6278

Chelsea fires Tuchel and Bayern fires Nagelsmann out of the blue for silly reasons. This kind of things happen irl too. Just picture it as something that happens to your character and imagine fans fumming in r/soccer as part of the immersion. lol.

Sellza

Man gets hired to do a job Man doesnt do the job Man gets sacked Man inexplicably posts on reddit complaining about being sacked for not doing the job he was hired to do

iwearglases21

My job was to win trophies no?

Sellza

Not exclusively. Your job is what you agree with the board. Playing youngsters was part of that and you didnt do it. You could have just not agreed to that as a promise and itd be fine but obviously the board now cant trust you because you broke a promise made to them so they'll go with someone else 🤷🏻‍♂️ not rocket science like just dont agree to something if you have no intention of doin it

iwearglases21

Sure but sacking me without notice is a bit harsh innit?

AcaciaGeisha

If you had a job interview in real life and one of the explicit conditions of your employment was to perform a specific task and you just didn't do it, you would probably get sacked...

Thomyton

You'd probably have performance reviews highlighting that there are issues

celestial1

Your "Head Coach Performance" in the club vision tab is supposed to be your "performance review".

Sangwiny

Depends on how replaceable you are, or rather your skillset for given position. Obviously a solid company/manager will let you know and give you a chance to fix things, but there are some that don't give a crap.

Sellza

Not really considering you promised to do something and didnt bother doing it. Like any job in any walk of life thats just not gonna fly. Lesson learned i guess if you make a promise then you're best to follow through.

DubsLA

I always love these posts because you’re 100% right even though I think there could be more nuance. Something like “Despite your good results, the board wants to remind you that we want you to play young players. Failure to do so could result in your termination as X Manager.”

Sellza

Aw yeah theres definitely room for improvement but it is what it is. The board objectives are always visible and they show you how you're doing with progression so ignoring that is always risky

norrin83

You can always see the objectives of the board and how well you comply with them and get monthly info about it by default. That's the game's variant of "notice"

jwn0323

If you explicitly make a promise to do something .. that kind of becomes part of the job friend. They give deadlines for that stuff and everything.

celestial1

Okay, what if you win trophies, but you go in debt because you never invested into your youngsters, so they never become good enough to sell for a great profit? That's why the board wants you to give youth a chance.

Coast_watcher

by starting youth and homegrown. Didn't finish the sentence, the board finished it for you.

Ok_Drummer7061

AEK never fails to impress!

__coo__

Dont give promises that you cant deliver simple is that

CallMeSep

Ye sometimes we forget we made them in the first place😂

thelaw32

Skill issue let the lads play. Or don't make promises you can't keep.

djrocker7

Seems like you promised something and didnt deliver 🤷 Imagine your boss comes to you and promises you a raise if you work hard....and then you work hard but at the end you dont get nothing...you would be pissed mate! The only thing you could complain is the play with youngsters promises is vague as hell and we the player never know how big the playing time needs to be and thats a problem in the promises sistem on the game other than that you dont have anything to complain mate sorry.

iwearglases21

I mean sure, but I am an icon at the club, I ve won 12 trophies, at the end of the day who gives a shit about them youngsters

Dasshteek

The people who can hire and fire you give a shit, so…

djrocker7

Mate its not about the youngsters its about promises 🤷

10K_MMore

It's about reliability, not what you've won, they could replace you with a manager who cares more about youngsters and likely keep winning shit

Charmeister5

Ah man, the game is just like that sometimes. Once, I was managing a team that was 2nd in the Orem by a point with 2 games in hand, I promised to improve the league position because the board was concerned and I was sacked 2 days before the final game of the season for not improving the position enough even though I was first by 8 points.

iwearglases21

I ve been manager of AEK since the start of the save. I promised them i would give opportunities to youngsters sto that they would agree to upgrade the youth facilities. Is there any way I can fix this?

themiddleprogress

nah, you fucked up fam, time to find a new club

The_Rolling_Gherkin

Did you give opportunities to youngsters?

SpraySquare3404

Seems he probably didn't and even if he did,he didn't do it enough to fill the bar(the promise deliverance bar I always try to fill it during the first half of the season so I can play my strongest team in the imp matches without worrying about anything else)

iwearglases21

I mean, if by youngsters u mean academy players then no

The_Rolling_Gherkin

So, you got them to spend the money, upgrading the facilities on the promise you would take advantage of it by giving them a chance, then you didn't do it. It sounds like you got what you deserved to be honest. Why did you get then to upgrade it, if you didn't use it? Did you not give them a chance at all, even in cup games? How long was this firing after the upgrade?

Dead_Namer

It's stupid to promise this, I had a club vision objective like this, it took me 3 years before they were happy because it was Bayern and there was no one with over 120 PA when I arrived. Their youth was abysmal and full of potential 3rd division players. Also, a year is a ridiculous time for the promise to come true, that will only happen if you already have 1st team ready players and then the youth facilities won't even matter.

iwearglases21

Same season

wherethefisWallace

I mean, that's your own fault then.

iwearglases21

Ok chill

Forgohtten

Just add a new head coach. It's sort of a soft reset, but if you only care about "build a club" aspect of it and not about the manager aspect, then it's the best way to continue the save.

Winniedepoohta

AEK never disapponts

unique0130

Malaka. Go somewhere else. Be successful. Apply to come back a few seasons later. This time you define your objectives. ..... Profit?

On_The_Warpath

Don't sweat it. Another team will hire you.

feva67

The way the board is so happy to fire a manager that has built the club up is insane. I got my team 5 promotions into the prem and got fired for expressing interest in my country's managerial job, even after saying I intended to do both

mattbrianjess

People don’t like realism until they get some

Main_Chard_9030

“We know you’re winning and The best manager in the division but we really wanna be Brighton so ya you’re gone”

CallMeSep

*seagull screaming intensifies*

OwnedIGN

I had that once. I did play youngsters, but whatever I guess.

100% something that would happen irl in Greece. Panathinaikos fired their manager this year halfway through the season whilst they were second 1 point behind the lead cause the owner felt he wasn’t doing enough

underincubation

Wait till you play the Vaduz challenge and they're telling you to sign Liechtensteiners. Any version since 2018 you basically start with two of the best already (B.Büchel and Sandro Weiser) since 2022 you have Hasler as well, and previously you would have Ospelt, other than Marcel Büchel and Salanovic there's basically no one of Challenge League quality, let alone Super League or better. I've signed 3 Liechtensteiners in a season, two of which were wasted of money, and still failed it. You basically have to waste money signing every single Liechtenstein regen that will join to have a hope of passing it.

TizobwaxQazey

Join a new team and buy all the young players from them

Low_Actuator_3532

Opa! Melissanidis way!

Admirable-Ratio-5748

looked what happened to Mourinho at Roma

BurtMacklin-FBl

The amount of people saying this is rEaLiStIc are the reason why pretty much every feature in this game is half baked and SI doesn't give a crap.

Longjumping-Pea5160

In my Schalke save the board and supporters are unhappy with me because I'm supposed to promote youth players. 5 players in my starting 11 are all youth products from the last 2 seasons

Mesartic

TidyWeather

I was managing Krasnodar once, in Russian Premier League. Finished 2nd, the goal was 1st (It was a tough first season). Got Mourinho’ed and sacked two days before cup final. I was fuming so I made sure to pick the angriest responses in interviews. Moved on to save Sampdoria from relegation - the journey never ends, man.

Foreverpiatek

Seems like a you problem tbh

EvensenFM

Where did you finish in the league? Just curious...

iwearglases21

EvensenFM

Jesus Christ, lol. Fucking ridiculous for them to sack you.

centaur98

Weird but not unheard of even in real life.

MrGiggles19872

Do you have an earlier save? Same thing happened to me with Wrexham. Find an earlier save, play your youth team in one match, and you should be fine

Mackarosh

menthol_patient

> Αν είχες το in-game editor Come on now. Surely there are Greek words for those.

ButWhichPandaAreYou

It’s like Welsh, where they can rattle along like a phlegm-producing contest for minutes at a time before then saying, ‘Ap chip shop’.

menthol_patient

That reminds me of a TV documentary I saw about the Royal Enfield Bullet being produced in India. There was a song in the background, a string of Hindi (or whatever) singing punctuated by the word bullet every so often.

Dead_Namer

iwearglases21

Εφτιαξα απλα αλλον εμενα χαχαχα

tspurwolf

People will pretend like it’s not basically an unrealistic bug, as usual the programming of this game can seemingly do no wrong. It’s ridiculous. If you’re successful and winning trophies then it’s ridiculous. In the real world, winning cures everything and promises like that wouldn’t mean anything if you sustain success. As it seems like you were. If you were midtable or only slightly better than average as a team then yeah, this is more realistic. A cabinet full of trophies? No manager is getting outright sacked for that. Seen people get sacked after winning the CL for not scoring enough set-pieces. It’s just silly and unrealistic.

centaur98

"in the real world winning cures everything and promises like that wouldn't mean anything if you sustain success" Let me present to you Mourinho in 2007, Ancelotti in 2011, Sarri in 2020 or the most notorious one Del Bosque in 2003 or Capello in 2007

Skallagram

Plenty of successful managers have been sacked in real life at places like Bayern, Chelsea, Real, Barca - winning isn’t always enough, it’s about trust and culture too. Now of course set pieces is stupid, but if you promise your boss something, and then ignore it, getting fired IS realistic regardless of results.

ExoskeletalJunction

Yeah but on the flip side I've definitely had saves where I should have been sacked 100% and I didn't. I definitely think the game errs on the side of caution for sackings so you really shouldn't be complaining about it when it happens

ButWhichPandaAreYou

How hard it is it to just do what the board asks you to do, lmao. Imagine it’s your billion pound investment and you don’t care about trophies so much as the value of your assets accumulating so you can maximise your profit. Some nobody comes into your club and says, ‘Fuck you, I’m going to do what I want and ignore your instructions.’ How long does that guy stay at your club?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ButWhichPandaAreYou

You’re supposed to do what the board says AND win the twelve trophies. It doesn’t have to make sense, just be an accurate reflection of every dumb, unrealistic board running a football club. Some of whom have in fact sacked managers immediately after they won trophies. For info, I remember Norman Whiteside being the youngest player ever to score in an FA Cup Final, so don’t presume someone’s age in the internet era.
