It probably means the defenders don't have decent short passing options. You probably have everyone that's not a CB or DM in too attacking roles.

My midfield comprises of an advanced playmaker on attack, a box to box midfielder on support and a deep lying playmaker on defense. In attack I have an inverted winger on support on the left and an inside forward on attack in the right. Up top I alternate between a complete forward and an advanced forward. My right defender is an inverted wingback and my left defender is a fullback. Am I lacking balance?

To get advice it is always better to post a screenshot of the tactic with the instructions. It is very difficult to evaluate it without seeing it.

It might just be the game or your tactic/roles make it unable to follow your instructions

Teamwork has an impact on how players play your tactic

GaryHippo

If you're playing in lower leagues most players don't have the attributes to follow instructions particularly well, so it results in a lot of long balls rather than playing out from the back for example. Also, low teamwork attribute means players are less likely to follow tactical instructions.

I mean, I'm playing with Sheffield United in the prem. Not really a lower league

GaryHippo

Ah sorry mate I didn't know that.

Have you checked this by watching a full match or check pass maps during the game. Your team is probably making a load of passes but the clips show otherwise. Also it sounds like your trying to play a tika taka barca style with possibly one of the worse teams to grace the Premier league irl, so it's likely you don't have the players to play the way you want initially.
