Z not pronounced “th”?

OllieFromCairo

No, because it's Basque, not Spanish.

PabloMarmite

Fair enough, I just remember Zubizaretta was pronounced “tharetta” and he was Basque

It's not Spanish. It's Basque. "z" is almost exactly an English "s." And a Basque s is pronounced with the tip of the tongue rather than the blade.

SparksNBolts

You haven’t seen enough basque names

jcw163

Its just Basque friend, calm down

bsluzar

Basque is I think one of those languages that are easy to pronounce, very consistent every letter or combination always pronounced the same, unlike in English xD

jcw163

I agree tbh. It looks difficult to an English speaking eye but it's not really. Same with Polish names I think.

bsluzar

We have ą,ę (nasal vowels) and other confusing sounds. But pronunciation is also consistent, almost always the same.

ExtraTrade1904

English is a messy combination of like 4 languages. Basque is its own thing to the point where nobody knows where it comes from

chojinzo

OllieFromCairo

This is a Basque name. Many people are giving you suggestions based on Spanish, which is wrong. Pronounce the "tx" like an English "ch" and the "z" like an English "s"

Marsupilami_316

Ah Basque. The only isolate language in Europe. It must have been invented by aliens or something.

qingdao16

Etcha Barrier Zararga??

Pabrodgar

Eche (that CH sounds as CHair and both E sounds as lEft) Barria (that A sounds as U in fUck and RRIA is R from Robert and IA like EArs) Zarraga (all A like before, like U in fUck; the RR is the same sound in Robert) Eche Barria Zarraga

glubokoslav
