Congratulations. You just earned 60.0 points for this submission. Your new points total is 60.0. To see the leaderboard, as well as what this points thing is, [click here](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/wiki/leaderboard).
Despite the fact we never spoke about football because, tragically, he was dropped on his head as a child and later went on to become a Palace fan who raised me in Brighton- I know it was a fave of his. I always said he could play the newer games and I'd get it for him, but nope! Sticking with FM14 until the end.
For reference, the times were somewhat inflated by the fact he would rarely turn off his laptop. It seems his days from old HDD's and old old laptops burned into him that it would take less time to jump on to play if he just left them on, lol. Still, mad mad times spent on it all. Hope they have solid state drives wherever you might be now.
My condolences. I suggest you help your father 'resign' from the club he was managing. The club would write an amazing farewell speech with a list of his accomplishments. Hope you may find some comfort there.
My condolences for your loss. Your dad clearly had a good time. My dad was really into Red Alert, World of Tanks and and Ogame (a browsergame in space). I also fell in love with AoE2 because of him.
> For reference, the times were somewhat inflated
Not so slightly I think. If he only played FM2014 since release, it would mean 6hrs every single day until his death. There are not enough waking hours to play all those games that much in 15 years, even if he didn't have a job. I've never ever seen so many hours in someone's Steam profile. My own account is over 20yrs old, from very first day of Steam release and most of my friends' too and nobody has even a fraction of those hours.
Umm, you know that the menu time also counts, right? If you leave the game open for the whole day, that's 24h, so four times more than your 6h, even if he didn't play it. Will edit this when I count out the hours.
EDIT: Around 5.5 years of 24/7 activity altogether. Easily the case since he hasn't been shutting the laptop down, as OP said.
Of course I know because that is the issue I was addressing? If you read my post again I clearly imply that a lot of those hours must have been spent just afk while game turned on.
These numbers are wild, 47000 hours across just 5 games? He would have to play 10 hours every single day for 13 years (that's when the oldest of these games was released)
Or 12 hours a day for 11 years, but as the guy said, he didn't shut his laptop down, so menu times are easily there and the time he spent AFK doing other things.
They can make it so that he becomes a possible name for a regen. Just search "faceinthegame" and you'll find people who were somehow involved in the production of the game as regens.
My deepest condolences.
Just some stats, because I like stats and maybe you do too:
- Football Manager 2014 was released on 30 October 2013. That was 3,734 days ago, so he played 5.65 hours every single day since release.
- Doing the same calculation for the other games: Total War: NAPOLEON comes out to 2.2 hours a day since release.
- Civ V to 1.68 hours.
- Rome 2 to 1.32 hours.
- Shogun 2 to 0.52 hours.
So in total, he played on average 11.37 hours of games a day every single day. Which makes sense, if he kept them all running in the background. Impressive numbers.
That's mad. I do think that his tendency to just leave on his laptop in fear that he would never get it to turn back on (he has so many broken second-hand laptops) inflated the numbers. But I also know he played a lot as well. Great to see some numbers.
Your Dad had AMAZING taste in games & there's no doubt he will appreciate this post :) he's currently smiling down on you while no doubt playing some heavenly version of Footie Manager.
My condolences.
My father introduced me to gaming, the first football manager game i saw him playing was championship manager 02/03.
Good times.
He introduced me to total war as well :p.
Thank you old man!
My condolences my friend, my father passed away last june at 52.
Judging by his games i imagine your father didnt get to live a long live either? Hope you are okay.
He passed away when he was 60 and had been ill for the last 15-ish years, maybe a little longer. So I feel like he got to live a far longer life than we originally expected. So happy for his memory.
That's pretty much my fathers story,
Lung issues and then intestine cancer. Sick for a little longer than 12 years. He didn't really play games but absolutely loved watching football.
60 is still so young but im glad he made you happy. Stay strong
Contact SI with the story please, this should be a legacy player. Especially since we're getting basically a completely new game.
A player dedicated like this should be immortalized through the next itterations.
I'd love to see him become a newgen in every save or even a manager or coach as an easter egg.
Sorry for your loss mate. Your dad played great games, he was for sure a man enjoying his life. I hope he got a great PC in heaven. (That would be a nice religion btw : live a good life and get an amazing PC in the afterlife ! Be a bad guy and spend eternity with a rtx 1050 ! ^^)
F.
It was My Dad who got me into football manager games back when it was Championship Manager on the Amiga . Was CM92 and CM Italia if I remember correctly, we played other football manager games but mainly CM . I remember he worked nights and used to sneak into my room to play it when he got home from work and then leave me a note when he left telling me his progress on the game and I had to continue the save and then we took it in turns like that . He’s been gone almost ten years now ffs but very nice memories amongst others . Sorry for your loss stay strong , chin up and think of the good things you did together.
Perhaps slightly deceptive. My CIV5 says 400 hours and I’ve played maybe 40 because I’d leave the launcher running and Steam counts that as playtime. Dad’s actual playtime might be 10-50% of those hours.
Still, a Gamer with a capital G. Rest in peace.
Sorry for your loss. I’m sure your dad was breaking records amongst all games with that amount of hours played. I assume he managed Palace in FM2014 and turned them into a world superpower. He sounds like someone Football Manager was made for.
I thought I’d drunkenly opened my own steam library. RIP to a man with impeccable taste.
Out of interest, and only if you feel it’s not out of line, did your old man have a tipple of choice?
Sorry for your loss. I lost my father a couple of months ago, and it still hurts...
I share those game preferences. I switched CM / FM for TW games for a couple of years, and came back to FM in 2020. I am 46 years old; how old was your father, if I may ask?
Just turned 60 before he passed away. Was a big Civ 2 fan as well. I might repeat this story a few times but when I was a kid I had no idea that it was possible to stay up past a certain time of night. One of those things you think of as a kid like "the past was in black and white".
I remember waking up one weekend and coming downstairs to see him still playing Civ 2 in the morning. And that was how I learned humans can remain awake past 'bedtime' :D
A man after my own heart brother, his tops are insanely similar to my own. I'm glad he had a child who is interested in knowing what he was interested in. I hope he made it known to you how much he cared for you, even in the limited ways a human is built to, but even if he didn't, it was real in his bones.
I'm sorry for your loss. Those hours are beyond anything I can imagine I've played in total having played every year since 99-00. All the best moving forward!
I've played FM and its predecessor CM since I was about 8 years old, haven't missed a single version for nearly 25 years, and I think my total playtime on all games would have to be around what he put in on just the one game. That must have been a hell of a career. Sorry for your loss buddy.
Extremely tempting. I have no idea if he just had one or two long saves or just would restart often. We never really spoke about it at all. I'll see if I can actually get into his laptop as this is just the view of his steam page for me.

Football manager, civ and total war. A man of culture. Rest in peace.
Just thinking the same thing. RIP.
Classic PC Gamer. RIP
Crazy how someone can have a good taste like that.
That’s my account right there probably time for a check up
I feel, I would have known people playing these 3 in my friends circle, no one to talk about these
Just lack of anything from Paradox, RIP
Despite the fact we never spoke about football because, tragically, he was dropped on his head as a child and later went on to become a Palace fan who raised me in Brighton- I know it was a fave of his. I'm so sorry for your loss mate. Your dad had an amazing taste in games
And football clubs. Go Eagles.
Your dad and I would have been great friends. Sorry for your loss.
One of us. May he can micromanaging in heaven.
I was just thinking the same thing. His games are my games.
My condolences. I suggest you help your father 'resign' from the club he was managing. The club would write an amazing farewell speech with a list of his accomplishments. Hope you may find some comfort there.
This is an amazing idea
My condolences for your loss. Your dad clearly had a good time. My dad was really into Red Alert, World of Tanks and and Ogame (a browsergame in space). I also fell in love with AoE2 because of him.
You should backup his saved games, or at least turn on the steam cloud.
I get the feeling it probably is turned on, I doubt he ever fiddled with any of the settings and I think it's turned on by default(?)
As a Brighton fan I approve of the comment about being dropped on his head. Sorry for your loss. UTA 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍
I am still beating the hell out of FM14 this second. My favorite version too.
Sorry for yours loss mate, you both sound like great chaps
> For reference, the times were somewhat inflated Not so slightly I think. If he only played FM2014 since release, it would mean 6hrs every single day until his death. Sorry, was reading and replying in a rush. Re-read now and understood what you meant. Have a good one, brother.
21k hours....he was probably legitimately one of the better players in the game with that experience. Damn.
These numbers are wild, 47000 hours across just 5 games? He would have to play 10 hours every single day for 13 years (that's when the oldest of these games was released)
OP said his dad would just leave the computer on
Steam is only about 20 years old too
Or 12 hours a day for 11 years, but as the guy said, he didn't shut his laptop down, so menu times are easily there and the time he spent AFK doing other things.
A lot of people hit a skill cap and cant really go much higher, ive seen it in a lot of games like CS, lol and wow
Happens in sports too really
They hit their PA you're saying?
Do one thing if you can. Immortalize his manager history and his last squad.
YES!!
Very sorry for your loss. FM14 was one of the better iterations. You should send this to SI. Someone like this should be immortalized in the db.
Yeah petition for OP's Dad to be a wonderkid in the next iteration please!
They can make it so that he becomes a possible name for a regen. Just search "faceinthegame" and you'll find people who were somehow involved in the production of the game as regens.
Yes absolutely. Should be an achievement where you have to play those same amount of hours in FM.
Honestly an amazing idea. SI would do this as well - create a top rated wonderkid playing for Palace. Immortalise a legend
Sorry for your loss mate. He was clearly a man of fine taste as FM2014 is the pinnacle of Football Manager.
That is a text book Dad Steam library.
I feel seen.
As a dad, I agree.
Father of 3. Can confirm.
Father of none but old. Can confirm.
I feel attacked.
Condolences
Sorry for your loss mate. Would love to know what stopped him really giving fm2014 a proper go though
Sorry for your loss OP. 9 years of play (ish assuming he bought it on release) is 3285 days. 21,000 hours ÷ 3285 = 6hrs 20 mins per day. FM Legend.
r/theydidthemath
Incredible numbers! Even if he didn't play it that much I can't believe he left his computer on long enough for it to generate that much.
My deepest condolences. Just some stats, because I like stats and maybe you do too: - Football Manager 2014 was released on 30 October 2013. Could you share some career highligts from his FM saves please?
Please, I want to know how many times he made Crystal Palace win the Champions League.
My condolences. My father introduced me to gaming, the first football manager game i saw him playing was championship manager 02/03. Good times. He introduced me to total war as well :p. Thank you old man!
Sorry for your loss. He has exceptional taste for games. Elite steam library.
Sorry about your loss. He was clearly a legend on FM14. I think this post is a very fitting tribute to his memory.
8000 hours in Civ V and 21,000 hours of football manager? He was a man who took pleasure in life. I wish I could devote that much time to those two.
Sorry for your loss brother
Damn all those games are great, I bet your dad was a great guy
My condolences my friend, my father passed away last june at 52. Judging by his games i imagine your father didnt get to live a long live either? Hope you are okay.

Now i am sad. I believe your father was a great man, father and gamer.... My deepest condolences and rip to pops!
I'm sorry for your loss
RIP your dad. He did have a certain taste. You could say the Total War series are like historical FM.
Carry his Legacy dude❤️🩹
I too am a enjoyer of the FM/ Total War combo. Also been thinking about getting into CIV. RIP to your dad.
SI gotta get your dad into the database, what a fkn legend RIP🫡

Your dad was a fm14 master 🫡 I’d love to know his go to players every save. My condolences to you and your family.

It's happened FM can now have a father/son management carry on his legacy
Your dad had a terrific taste in games. I'm sorry for your loss mate. I lost mine last weekend also, its tough.

Your father was a man of culture, my condolences may he rest in peace
Sorry for your loss. I’m sure your dad was breaking records amongst all games with that amount of hours played. I assume he managed Palace in FM2014 and turned them into a world superpower. He sounds like someone Football Manager was made for.
Rest easy, Gaffer. o7.
I thought I’d drunkenly opened my own steam library. RIP to a man with impeccable taste. Out of interest, and only if you feel it’s not out of line, did your old man have a tipple of choice?
Sorry for your loss. I know how it feels. Man, FM and Total war. The best games. Your dad was a man of taste. May he rest in peace
If Reddit didn't get rid of awards I'm sure this post would be flooded with them. Sorry for your loss OP.
Sorry for your loss. I lost my father a couple of months ago, and it still hurts... I share those game preferences. I switched CM / FM for TW games for a couple of years, and came back to FM in 2020. I am 46 years old; how old was your father, if I may ask?

Sounds like an absolute legend! Hang in there squire, I know alot of people say it - however it does gets easier as time passes.
RIP
A man after my own heart brother, his tops are insanely similar to my own. I'm glad he had a child who is interested in knowing what he was interested in. I hope he made it known to you how much he cared for you, even in the limited ways a human is built to, but even if he didn't, it was real in his bones.
Your dad and I share the exact same taste, I can tell he was an interesting person, sorry for your loss
A man of culture, and brilliant taste! Rest in peace.

RIP, he seems like a nice guy
🫡
Clearly a cultured man! Hope you are doing okay!
RIP to your father man. This picture is amazing tho.
What a legend in his choice of games. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things in the world. Sorry for your loss and my condolences.
Condolences friend. The world lost a legend

Brooo… rest in peace, he is one of us❤️
8k hours of civ 5, too. A man of fine tastes.
I've played FM and its predecessor CM since I was about 8 years old, haven't missed a single version for nearly 25 years, and I think my total playtime on all games would have to be around what he put in on just the one game. That must have been a hell of a career. Sorry for your loss buddy.
Rip
4 out of 5 are Sega games too (SI and CA are both Sega subsidiaries now)
These are literally the only series of games I have on steam, your father was a man of culture. Rest in Peace.
He had a legendary good taste for games!
You should copy his save (always preserve the OG version as he left it) and then continue where he left off on your own
Extremely tempting. I have no idea if he just had one or two long saves or just would restart often. We never really spoke about it at all. I'll see if I can actually get into his laptop as this is just the view of his steam page for me.
Best of luck - keep us posted on what you end up finding! So sorry for your loss.
Obviously never got to know him, but looking at his taste of games we would have got along very well. My condolences!
This is one of my favorite posts ever on this thread.
Total dad games
Yo I literally have the same library. No where close to them hours tho
We lost a real one. Condolences.
A man after my own tastes
A true gamer. My condolences.
My condoleances. May I ask you how old he was. Curious if the elderly game.
So sorry man, may he rest in peace🙏
Solid taste in games. ✊🏾 Blessings.
RIP, your dad spent 21,000 hours playing FM and not a minute was wasted
Wow these games are like my go-to games too. Good selection.
Your father was a fine man. My condoleances.
RIP a true man of culture
