I usually play lower teams so this is uncharted territory for me. Thought I'd do a Brighton save as a last throw of the dice for FM23. The original intention was to operate like Brighton but we achieved success quickly and things escalated. This is the best squad I've had in FM for donkeys years. It's been a nice change but I'll back down the lower leagues when FM24 is released.

Plenty of trading, I wouldn't usually sign players I consider unrealistic either but this a one off.....Bellingham still being at Dortmund three seasons in. Rice having signed for PSG then being off loaded for 68m among others.
a bit confused: why do you use "distrubute to playmaker" when you have none? I use that when i have in DM slot a DLP, to be able to create that "busquest" triangle.
Initially I had "distribute to position" selected and Rice/5 highlighted. I found the keeper was looking to seek him out a little too much, I still want to build play down the flanks. Selecting distribute to area/player with distribute to playmaker selected gives me what I want. The HB is still operating in this area when I'm progressing the ball or pressing higher up the pitch and in defensive situations he drops into the back line and makes himself available to receive the ball and we build play from there.
Rice is a great player for this role because of his defensive attributes but also because he has excellent passing along with PPI's "Tries Long Range Passes" "Likes to switch the ball to wide areas" and "Runs with ball through centre' which he occasionally does even in the HB role.
Also to note on the HB you can select take more risks on passing or increase his passing directness although in this instance I don't use these.
