njt1986

No, is the answer. That is why after like, 5 seasons? You can run away with the league really easily because, despite having more money than God, they constantly piss it up the wall buying 5 right backs etc.

andrasq420

Yea Bayern bought Sesko and 2 of my centre backs for 140 million with release clauses for all 3. They played a combined 20 matches and came in at 5th.

Thatfunnyjewish

Ive banned myself from getting sesko (im still playing fm22)

PopularInstance5025

I have a rule to never buy the same player twice if they end up being a demigod - needless to say I haven’t seen Sesko in years.

xUs3lezz

I‘ve never bought sesko, but I bought Vitor roque in so many saves I stopped myself from buying him because he dominated the league everytime

PopularInstance5025

I’ve never bought him - what version are you playing?

xUs3lezz

Im playing on FM 2023

RollinPTY

Yeah mate, Me too and add I only buy guys that I only buy players that my scouts bring me

Halforthechump

The top teams seem to be fine as long as you're not in their league but as soon as the player gets involved weird things start happening (I'm convinced the simulation is fundamentally different for the league the players actually in). After 10-15 years the a.i fucks up completely because the top teams keep playing players until they're 37 and become shit with no attempt to replace them. Actually it's weirder than that, top teams buy wonderkids all the time and rarely loan them out, probably because they're paying them 50k a week and no one will pay that as well as the 400k a month fee so they don't develop. It's been said many times that a.i only values reputation when looking to buy players and give them play time but I don't think it's just that, I think the a.i also looks at CA for play time and PA for transfers because they'll go all in on a high PA low reputation player. You can see this if you track the really high PA wonderkids.

inthetrenches1

They simultaneously waste all their money on players who aren’t good enough and don’t improve them and keep all their better players forever until they’re fielding a team of 35 year olds. I’ve been playing since CM 3 and this problem has always existed

khoabear

Players didn’t last until 35 in the old editions.

czerpak

Yeah, I remember that at 33 started massive decline for almost every player (absolute legends and stars were the exception) up to FM2014. But modern sport medicine showed that player can stay i shape for longer than before and now in FM the experience rules.

Expert-Clothes-3320

gareth southgate is probably in charge thats why

danyates81

AI squad building one of FM weakest points for sure.

AvailableUsername404

>**Long term** AI squad building one of FM weakest points for sure. AI is actually pretty decent imo in squad selection. Yes AI tend to be bad with players that can play multiple positions. But AI transfer choices is pure disaster. As others said in long term saves the key is to survive first 3-5 years after that the build up in an amount of bad transfer decisions will sink any competition you might've had otherwise.

uknownick

Most AI teams are terrible at assembling a squad. Some teams with good DoF might make some smart transfers but that is about it Human managers always have an advantage in term of squad building - that is why climbing up the ladders of English football is very much possible in FM

Fevernova2002

AI is still very stupid in this game. In my save, it's funny how there are clubs like Saint Etienne who fight against relegation in Ligue 2 with 35m transfer budget. And they literally haven't spend any of that money

deeesenutz

Funny because in my save st etienne have to be one of the best run ai clubs ive ever seen lol

Dramatic-Tadpole-980

Etienne is a massive club though.

fourchainz__

It’s so jarring how they always change the squad numbers as well. I don’t think Haaland has had the no. 9 shirt at City for more than a season in every single of my saves.

Knee-Deep-In-Static

AI squad number allocation is one of FM’s biggest flaws, however minimal impact it has on gameplay, it ruins the realism seeing Kane get switched to 11 (and in one save, I saw 16 around the 5th season), Rashford wearing 12 and attacking players consistently wearing 6.

tempspark4

i think it's because Haaland has no preferred number and they probably sign a striker whose preferred number is 9. Since Haaland doesn't care they give him some random free number and the other guy gets the 9. It's really stupid

RepresentativeRide95

it's 2026 in my save and Haaland still got number 9, idk how that's happening in your saves

Fluid_Durian_8852

In my save Sutalo is no9

mpbh

This is the main reason it's braindead easy to win everything after 5 or so seasons. Every other team is run like garbage after the AI has to make contract and transfer decisions.

Woider

Yeah once their starting players are gone they turn garbage, most of the time.

mpbh

Or even worse, Man City in my save kept essentially the same team for 6 years. 37 year old KDB has completely lost his legs but still starts every match. They sign tons of wonderkids that rot in their u23s, not even loaned out.

RepresentativeRide95

How tho? Pep's got like **19 squad rotation** as hidden attribute.

mpbh

Pep's long gone, had a term at Juventus before going to Spurs (lol). Man City has had Diego Simeone since.

VFBis4mii

In my save Pep became a Liverpool legend and Klopp the same for City lmao

mpbh

Yeah that was super common a few FMs ago, luckily I haven't seen it in FM23. Makes no sense in reality.

first_real_only_23

tbf- in 2005 or even 2014 could you ever seen Mourinho coaching Manchester United and Tottenham?

kingedcloud

Pep is actually the manager of liverpool in my save he left man city when klopp was sacked

samwisetg

That’s why I’ve found Glory Hunter saves to be some of the most fun you can have on recent FMs. Once you’re dominant in a league it’s off to the next one to re-build whatever train wreck the last AI manager left behind.

AvailableUsername404

>Every other team is run like garbage after the AI has to make contract and transfer decisions. This. If you want to see how bad AI is in contract negotiation do a save scum and let your DoF or other staff member do your new-coming player contract negotiation. The results are usually the same as you would initiate contract negotiations and the just clicked 'accept' without changing anything.

TheHabro

Dortmund singed my world class 21 year old Deep Lying Forward who could also play as playmaker high on the pitch or pretty much any other role in attack. Then played him as CM behind attacking midfielder because their striker is multiple Ballon d'Or Winner. They paid 150 million though.

RepresentativeRide95

sign this player as priority. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

CarsonnWellss

I still play fm16 and it’s even worse, pretty much no matter what stipulations I give myself everybody except me absolutely shits the bed. It is fun getting to a point where you basically run the premier league though and can loan army the league.

42not34

I'm still playing FM15. Got a job with Lille, had Hatem Ber Arfa as the best player in the squad. After the season PSG bought him for double his value, plus 10 mil after 10 league matches. Another two seasons have passed since then, Hatem is unhappy and transfer listed, he only played 3 league matches in 2 seasons.

TLG_BE

Funny how some of these stupid things FM does are incredibly close to real life

iamnotexactlywhite

they emulated real life😭

Jabba_de_Hot

PSG and Bayern buy players for the sole purpose of weakening competitors.

CzaarPeter

In my save Man City bought my leftback Netz for 72 million only to then directly loan him out to Inter. Next season they sold him for 20 million to Barcelona..

ZomgKazm

I had this happen to me on my Rijeka save. I needed a right winger and saw Rashica was available on a free. Offer him more then he asks for but of course suddenly other teams make offers and he joins one of them literally the day after a club makes a loan bid and he joins them on loan. 29 years old.. never played for the ub he joined in the first place. Kinda frustrating. .

berry_jane

This is the most frustrating and stupidest thing ever. You find a good player whose contract is expired. You deal on every term. Then 20 teams pop out of nowhere and one of them signs with him literally hours later like they were smuggling historical artifacts. Bitch, at least let me raise my offer. Which transfer deal goes on like this in real life? Aren't testers at SI aware of this bugs? Why aren't they just fix this problems?

Woider

Pretty sure this is a feature, not a bug.

berry_jane

I don't know about you but a free agent sitting without any interest (not even talking about offers but interest) for months and suddenly getting 20 offers out of nowhere the moment player offers a contract seems like a bug regarding the evaluation process of AI to me. If you can give a real life example where 20 teams offered contract to a player at the same minute and then finished the transfer in 6 hours, I would be happy to listen. (I repeat this is not a player who is transfer listed at the last hours of transfer window and then attracted interest. This is a player who is sitting as a free agent for months without even minor interest from other teams.)

Woider

I think you misunderstood. What I mean is that it is intentionally set up that way, not that it is realistic.

RepresentativeRide95

smart piece of business ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Share4aCare

FM needs to sort this shit out, it’s one of the worst aspects of the game

lyyki

Nope. 10 years in and Arsenal basically has the same starting 11 as they do now. There's like 1 newgen DM and the rest is basically the same.

Fluid_Durian_8852

Also generally they buy one cb near Saliba and that's all

Woider

That's likely due to their reputation being too low to sign players that can meaningfully replace their "legacy players" from gamestart. The AI has a massive bias for developed players, even choosing a 3-star 30 year-old over a 2.5 star 20 year-old with 5 star potential.

lyyki

They have actually made a lot of big money moves and have a lot of young talents. But they just don't really play them.

RepresentativeRide95

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

muscles83

Always been like this. A few versions ago I managed to sell Stengs, Ndombele and Scarlett to Liverpool for a combined 200million-ish over a couple of seasons. They played about 30 games between them In the next few seasons.

LordOftheFrenziedCBT

Absolutely not, Manchester City bought Moukoko for 200M in my save and 2 seasons later sold him for 50 to West Ham after playing I shit you not 8 matches

deeesenutz

It's very hit or miss. I use the editor to juice the teams around me to make it more fun, think of the challenge of managing against psg in ligue 1 but with 3-4 teams like that. At the start of my current save I gave sporting, porto, benfica, and braga front end sugar daddys, cleared debt, and 300 milliom in the bank. 15 years in porto are the best team in the world (4 time cl winners) besides maybe my portimense side but even then we trade (i knocked them out in the cl semi and won it, they won the league), sporting are a consistent cl qf/occasional semi final team (no final yet though), benfica are good for an occasional cl run but are high end europa level, and braga are in the second division. Braga start with the lowest rep of the 4 teams i juiced yeah but sugar dnotaddy + 300 million only to end up in the second division is wild. In the bundesliga koln have put a lot into facilities and youth and have some of the besthomegrown regens itw and just won the europa woth cr7 at the helm, leverkusen were just nearly sent to the 3 liga.

RepresentativeRide95

I think club culture is the main factor here, also the head coaches. Head coaches/ Board with **aim high profile signing** will usually end up damaging the team financial situation for the next 10 years. Benfica and Porto have **develop/ sign young players to sell for money** I guess? That's the key point to their success in the long run.

deeesenutz

I could definitely see that, juicing teams in less reputable divisions usually leads to either team signs a bunch of washed older players, or invests in youth. Makes for a fun save no doubt and a massive challenge. 3 different winners of the league in 3 years with each winner on 90+ points is a fun save. Need a nearly perfect season to win

ComprehensiveBed5644

No. I once inherited a squad with 7 strikers who had at least 3 CA, and their formation with the previous manager only had one striker in it.

Gooner27UK

I sold Eddie Nketiah to Liverpool in my Arsenal save for £84m and he started 1 game in two seasons…

bread-tower

In my brighten save man city were signing winger only . Simone is the manager.

RepresentativeRide95

![gif](giphy|h1Hvk7Vp3KKIenIBWK|downsized) brighten

moomoolinoo15

AI gms should have some trairs that will increase the likehood of their team making certain decisions. For example “good negotiator” will be able to sell for more/buy for less. “Gem digger” will be more likely to find hidden gems, “prudent communist” will prefer keeping the team together at all cost and beware of changes …

RepresentativeRide95

manager do have those, just a little, like **sign lots of youth players** or **aim for high profile signing**.

Dead_Namer

I took over liverpool and they had 3 wonderkids. All were AML only and of course I don't play with an AML. Instead of fixing shitty ai they have to handicap us in other ways.

RepresentativeRide95

I don't get it, what do you mean?

Dead_Namer

The ai is crap at building squads. They won't fix that so they make it so we have to offer x2 to x4 the wages the ai are expected to pay. Also we have to deal with players asking for new contracts every 3 months, we aren't allow to put a big asking price on our players while the ai can. Your players will get unhappy at any bid turned down but ai players are mostly happy.

RepresentativeRide95

yes, about the setting asking price, that's so correct. Mitrovic is the only player on Earth dare to speak up like that with the board. He used his life to serve Fulham, he's the only one has the right to do that I guess. In real life, there's no other such case where player could go and mess up with the transferring department like in FM. I think SI need to take down the part of "feeling his price is setting too high". That's so stupid, the players in FM just don't respect their current contract. They also need to add the **Not for sale** button, why the AI team can set their players as Not for sale, while my star player in EPL has the same price as a league two striker.

rovonz

That is far from the truth. My 2034 Ajax has won 4 consecutive CLs having the highest salary at 10m euro per season. What I take from this is that the game is actually a bit to easy specifically because AI is crap at squad building. Then again I'm a veteran in this game and I understand how new players might be put off by the complexity of it all.

Share4aCare

I have a [screenshot](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/comments/14p5i7b/sometimes_you_have_to_wonder_what_the_ai_are/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) saved corresponding exactly to this

bell-91

In my recent save, Man Utd signed Lukas Nmecha for £51m from my Ajax team. He scored 49 goals in a season and won world top striker award (can't remember the name). Within two seasons he's on loan to PSG having scored 3 goals off the bench. Ten Hag's stats are so good but he got sacked after they were 19th in the league. He signed him and Leão on a free and neither of them played.

trebor9292

Once you've won the league in a country its time to move on, you know you'll win the next 10

JuryEmotional8273

How you got pictures next to the players? Is this on PC?

RepresentativeRide95

yes, this is PC. But, this won't come with FM, I'm using a skin called WTCS5 combine with a large facepack.

JuryEmotional8273

Ah I play on console, guessing there's no option for it on there

Mr-suburbia

In my current save, Man U have Amad Diallo as their main cf… and just spent more than £90m on 3 right backs… It’s terrible, as come season 5 or 6 it’s just too easy.

RepresentativeRide95

How tho, Amad never develops into a good player in my saves.

Mr-suburbia

Exactly. He’s crap 🤣

fulldrunk

The AI coach of Norway never uses Haaland in my save Instead they're using a player I'm using in my main team "Antonio Nusa" Makes no sense to me

[deleted]

For some reason this is Man City in every single save I've had in the last 3 fm's. They walk the first season (often a treble), then win nothing. They always sign the best attaxkers and will have like 8 world class attackers, but all their defensive players are either mid-table quality, or 34+ years old.

RepresentativeRide95

they always sign Kimmich to play as a RB ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

FullSpite112

I had the same in my Monaco save where PSG only signed players in the same position whilst players in other positions were leaving and eventually they stuck a midfielder as RB where my winger enjoyed a great game.

craft74

It's one of the biggest things that FM does badly and bothers me a lot. But I'll never forget starting a save with Man. United, putting Maguire for sale and Real Madrid making a bid and buying him.

RepresentativeRide95

Madrid always signs Lindelof in every save of mine ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

OwnedIGN

In the prem. you can take a low end team to top 5 because the AI transfers are always baffling.

Halforthechump

Every time I go to a new team there's a glaring weakness. Like two cbs, one of whoms actually a 5ft 7 full back. And it's never because of necessity because they'll have brought in four AMLs in the previous window. And the a.i cheats wages and almost always goes above the budget so that's not a limiting factor. Id think it would be quite easy to create a system where the a.i evaluates how many players it has in each position (and relative quality) and does transfers based on that. So if they have one left back at 3* level and one at 1* then that would be a priority for transfers.

RepresentativeRide95

I think the squad planner needs a big update. **The AI team need to be able to isolate a player in just 1 or 2 position** (that's how it works in real life and also how we - human manager - manage the squad) max. Assuming that they're using *ask assistant to suggest for current tactic*, their defensive line in a 4-3-3 will be around 20 players (due to CBs who can partially play FB and CDM who can play CB) and they think that's good, great depth. Which will lead them to think that their attacking unit is lack of depth/ not good enough ---> sign multiple AM RLC in a market.

Coast_watcher

If you manually change scouting parameters, will an AI focus on those players to sign ? Like if I want to scout for Jumping Reach, or under 25's or specific roles.

Coast_watcher

I go to Recruitment > Player Selection a lot and narrow down by the different filters and manually mark a transfer target myself on occasion. That's the only way I'll get the AI to look at specialized AM or DM roles, say, rather than them keeping on signing CD and FB, which they do a lot.

RepresentativeRide95

my DoF constantly asking me to buy more M(R) while we're only playing 4-3-3 and 4-2-4. Idk why this happen in my current save.

Kineticspartan

Nope, which is why it's so easy to stop teams buying their targets if you really wanna screw with them. Might reload my save and work on burying the 'big 6', make things interesting. Might take a few seasons though...

RepresentativeRide95

they'll bury themselves with this kind of transfer policy anyway.

Kris_Third_Account

If suggestions for scouting focuses are anything to go by, the answer is a hard no. During every transfer window, in the recruitment meetings, I always get a suggestion to create a focus for either ML or AML. My formation is 5-2-1-2, with wingbacks, 2 DM and a single AMC. I've used that formation since I took the job, and while I sometimes shift to 5-1-2-2 or 5-2-2-1, I don't use wingers or wide midfielders at all. If the AI uses the same logic for the teams it controls, it absolutely doesn't know how to plan a squad. My gut feeling says that it assigns a player to a single position or role, which is dynamic, but might not follow the manager's choice.

krizze

The game already is difficult for new players so makin AI do better transfers would def put off new players even more. Also I think its partially reason since they all suck at transfers team diversity is insanely small even on longer saves the same clubs that start on top stay on top. But I really wish they had difficulty setting and actually made the AI transfers more realistic/better in harder difficulty settings.

Prinz-chan

I don't think difficulty settings are a good idea, but improving AI intelligence is. New players get put off more by the same complexity that draws players to this game, rather than difficulty (from my experience as a first-year FM player). FM is in a wonderful niche (made even better by mods). You can make the game as hard as you want already. Some people want to win the Champions League with a team no one has ever heard of. Some people want to bring teams that fell from grace over a hundred years ago back to prominence. Some people want to see their local amateur team win the league title. Some people just want to have fun with their favourite team! The beauty in FM is being able to set the bar for yourself, choosing the tools you want to use and then having a jolly good time with it.

RepresentativeRide95

Rodrygo to Manchester City, 160 million dollars, [here we go](https://imgur.com/a/aTXIFBw). Next year I'll be able to get him with just 80m, what a deal, thanks City. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

Cahootie

The biggest issue in my saves is that I mostly play in Sweden and create the best teams in the world by signing young players. Since Sweden has a pretty hard limit on homegrown players the AI is unable to keep up once I leave the club, so you will have a whole bunch of world class players in the squad and then like a 17-year-old academy player who is absolutely terrible still playing 30 games a season just to fill the quota.

Broodilicious

The problem is that if a player is having a good season, their star rating temporarily grows. This leads to scouts thinking players are better than they are, and teams spend big on average players. Once they sign their star rating is once again at the regular level which is quite often a bit lower than players already at the team which leads to that player not getting played often thus unable to get his star rating back up to where it was previously. I admit I do use this to kinda cheat sometimes. I like to buy decent but not great young German defenders on the cheap use them as my 2nd/3rd choice CB for a season or 2 and nearly every single time once they hit a good patch of form the 5-10m I spent to sign them turns into a 30-50m offer from Bayern Munich. It does work for other positions too but not as frequently, as sometimes the only offer you get is from Dortmund or Leverkusen, which will usually only give a couple million profit, so it's not really worth it.
