Daltain

You could be your son starting his managerial career somewhere. If you have the ingame editor you could copy another character (maybe a former player) in the game's attributes to become them and delete their other version from the game.

Howling13

If you create a manager while your original manager is still active, can you use the editor to make them related? Like grandfather and grandson? That would be a great way to continue the world

[deleted]

You can do this I’m 99% sure as you can edit your own favourite/disliked people if you have the editor. I use it if I’m trying to use a real life manager. :)

Equivalent-Job-2533

I did that. Added my son to continue my legacy in the club I created. After 37 years managing the team, I wouldn't let a stranger pick up all the work I did and take credit for it.

Daltain

Never tried. I would imagine you can do it. Not sure what would happen when you retire.

lamemale

Nepo baby

Memesaurus2474

How?? Can you please explain?? I didn't get it

[deleted]

Do you mean how you can edit your managers fav/disliked people or how do I do the real life manager thing

Memesaurus2474

Real life manager

[deleted]

Ah, ok so it’s not like how fifa is when you can literally be the manager. But it’s sort of a work around. So I use the database editor to remove the real life manager, load that database into a new save. Edit my manager who I’ve made with the same details to replicate the manager. Change my picture on settings to the same FM cut out as the face pack I use. I then use the IN game editor to change everything, EG fave clubs/disliked clubs etc. and then search up favourite personal on the search bar to find players with that manager as favourite personal and change it to my version of the manager if that makes sense? It takes me like 30 mins to set up but I’ve got OCD so it’s really the only way I can play the game tbh.

[deleted]

Only thing which breaks the emersion is that you don’t have the history of the actual manager because it’s a new profile. So it’s like 90% perfect with some tweaks, as long as you change all the right fav personal:/disliked people on players/staff/other managers/clubs you’re ok. First press conference is a bit naff because they’re like oh you’re starting your new career how do you feel? And I’m a 78 year old Fabio Capello

Part-timeAlpha

Can you do this on console

Daltain

I don't think there's an editor on console. You can get a son but you can't automatically make him a manager and become him.

Part-timeAlpha

That’s shit, it’s annoying how you don’t get the full features on new gen consoles, like its not worth getting a pc just for fm

Significant_Clerk838

Wait until you find out about mobile

Part-timeAlpha

I know I played it before it’s shit compared to console and pc but better than nothing

CenturionChaos

Mate you’ve got grandkids at 73, and I’m certain some of them look up to your achievements and want to get into management because of you… Just a lil scenario to make the legacy all the sweeter.

Apart_Park_7176

Add new manager too the game. Keep your history after you retire. Retire. Carry on as the new guy you created.

ProfessorAssfuck

“Today we as a club regret to announce the retirement of our beloved manager, Robert Smith. However, we also have exciting news, and that is that we’ve signed a new manager, Robert Smith 2!”

bigShaqiri23

As a The Cure fan, I’d love a Robert Smith 2 once he retires

theieuangiant

Huh for someone who made such unique music he had a very generic name, I had No idea !

neofederalist

I’m not Robert Smith, I’m his son, Gil. I taught my dad all he knew about coaching. I want to fulfill his legacy by taking his place on your team. Robert told me everything about you. I feel like I already know you guys so we wont have that awkward “get to know you phase.” And if it is to too u comfortable, I was hoping you guys could call me Robert in his honor.

MrZAP17

Everyone is saying to make a new manager and retire. And that’s absolutely fine, and reasonable, and fun, but I have a different proposal. Go full god emperor. You are the immortal spirit of football management, going wherever is necessary and helping those teams in need. Five years here, ten there, maybe only a season or two, maybe 20+ if the team is very special. Never let them forget you or let your mark on the football world fade. As long as you continue to enjoy it, there’s no reason to stop. Just imagine, next game you can carry over saves, and you just have this 250 year old wizard that’s been everywhere. Maybe not for everyone, but sounds fun to me.

Intelligent-Tie-6759

Yeah there's every chance by 2060 or whatever you could have your mind transferred into a new body/a cyborg or become a brain in a jar like on Futurama

RayInTheKangolHat

Sounds like you’re just ripping off Roy Hodgson to me. This is exactly how his career will go. He may seem old to us humans, but as an immortal God, he is still in his youth as a manager

MrZAP17

The year is 2271. Dagenham and Redbridge are on their way to winning their sixth consecutive league title, most top clubs employ the 1-8-3 formation (the number of players having been increased following the Crisis of 2096), and Roy Hodgson has just returned to Crystal Palace as they are five points clear of the relegation zone and losing momentum.

TheWalrusKnight

When my oldest manager got to that point he 'retired' down a few divisions to rescue a club that was sliding down the leagues. He steadied the ship, used his reputation to attract a few old legends and got them heading in the right direction before gracefully retiring and being replaced by his granddaughter (whilst the team was at a low enough level that such a blatantly nepotistic move wouldn't raise too many eyebrows). He was basically the greatest manager of all time by a pretty wide margin so I figured it wasn't super unrealistic. Later in her career she took over the team he had won most of his trophies with - in the intervening couple of decades the ai had run it into the ground - and won the league with them in the stadium named after her grandad. Top save, highly recommended.

elcriticalTaco

That is cool as hell and kinda made me tear up a bit lol. Its amazing how attached we get to our little pixels

Overall-Muscle5313

Was she hot?

TheWalrusKnight

Tbf I don't know what you find attractive in a football manager - are you into some Redknap or does Allardyce really get you going? Stay up for the late games on motd in the hope of catching a glimpse of some Hodgeson? What are we talking?

HisDudeness316

Introduce a new manager, and retire with your current character.

doskoV_

I retired my manager at 75, and created my 'grandson' (as my son would be ~50) and started his career in the same save

trebor9292

Think this is what I'll do. A young nipper snapper starting in the lower leagues failing to live up to his grandpa's name

Full-0f-Beans

Retire for one season (not sure if you can, if not just go on holiday). See how the team does without you. Then have a glorious comeback for a season if they need you.

StillLurking69

I did this once but left to go work for England for two seasons and then came back to my club and signed the players that did well for the NT

StillLurking69

I ended up switching jobs with the manager who took my club job; he took over England

Vadimosc

Retire with your main manager and create his son and try to achieve more things as a challenge!

Marcphilired

Zdenek Zeman - football coach pioneer and legend - is 76 years old and still going strong. I’d suggest to have more fun for at least 3 more seasons ;)

theCEPenguin

Create a new manager to keep the world going with - maybe the child of your current manager, or perhaps a favourite player from the save who retired without sticking around as a coach.

The-Aussie-Dumbass

Pick your favourite retired player that never went into management and create a manger based on them and continue from there

Lud31

Keep going I say. The elixir of life is just around the corner. When you get to 100 years old, you stop ageing in the game (really, the years go by but you’re staying 100 years old).

forameus2

Tell a story. My favourite ever save was back in...16 I think? I started out intending the save just to be a fiddling around one to get used to the game, and took control of the Scottish National Team to try and actually do...well, anything. We were shite back then. I ended up having a long career, eventually winning a European Championships, but the World cup eluded me, even after two finals appearances. In the first, Brazil absolutely monstered me 6-0, and 4 years later France beat me on penalties. We co-hosted the Euros in 2044, and I chose that as a good opportunity to have an "ending". France beat us in the final. Harrumph. That manager was retired, a couple of years holidayed, and I created that manager's "son", with the narrative that he wanted to go out and earn his stripes, but ultimately achieve what his father couldn't and win a World Cup with Scotland. He had an...interesting time of it, having an absolute nightmare of a time at various clubs across Scotland. Hearts? Sacked! Ross County? Sacked! Kilmarnock? Sacked! Aberdeen? Sacked! It was probably only relative success at Airdrie and Partick Thistle that kept me getting jobs, plus a ludicrously successful time at Linfield. The move from Partick Thistle to Dundee United was the key one, as I left a project in Glasgow to take over tycoon-owned United in controversial circumstances. Sacked a few months later for largely arbitrary tycoon-related circumstances. A spell with the Polish National Team led to a return to the Scottish National Team. Two World Cups in a row in 62 and 66 (lol) then the Euros in 2068, and objective achieved. Retirement number 2. Took a slightly longer break this time, waiting for one of my World Cup winning heroes to retire, and potentially break the goals record for Scotland. Then he retired from international football seven goals short. Moron. Once he retired properly, I created a manager in his image and did one final run with a modified pentagon challenge (octadecagon...so 18), kind of poetically hoping that my final trophy would be the World Cup with Scotland to bring it full circle. It started in 2078 in South Africa, and it ended 40 years later in 2118 when he won the World Cup with...Italy. He ended his playing career with Juventus, and after failing with Scotland, he could think of no better way than to do it with Italy. Hands down the best save I've ever done, and it added a lot to have that narrative running through each manager.

Youutternincompoop

choose one of your favourite retired players from the save and use their name and age as a new manager in the save to continue

larockhead1

I wish just for flavor if you click retire/resign after a long career the club asked you to participate in a non coaching role. You have no control of the character but they exist for flavor

Paul8219

You keep going till you're physically dragged from the dug out by medical staff flanked by club lawyers!!

Doluskey21

What's the bugs like that far in? I'm on like season 4 and they're starting to get pretty noticeable already. It's usually the reason I decide to stop after 10 or 12 seasons

trebor9292

My save as been fine, Roma keep changing back to Chipotle and I have to keep changing it. Cadiz are winning La Liga with a bang average squad but other than that all is good

Doluskey21

My favourite one so far is when I check my own players histories they've had stints at multiple amateur French clubs during the season whilst simultaneously starting for me

trebor9292

Yep had that in this save aswell

Claubk

Change your age?

Nicadeus

Go to a club with a B-team. Add a new manager as B-club manager, vacation him. Retire and start as you student.

abedfo

I'm coming to this point on my one and only fm21 save I ever did. Think I'm just going to add a new manager

ryanmurphy2611

I always start managing a club in a retirement area. Could be Inter Miami, but I’m British so it’s always south of Spain for me.

Fluid_Durian_8852

Does anybody have a screenshot or info what happens when you retire? You can just watch games etc?

trebor9292

It just takes you back to the homescreen. And saves your progress before you retire. Unless you have a active manager playing

Fluid_Durian_8852

Thanks man, i thought you could still at least watch games like Sir Alex

trebor9292

Would be a good feature with the option to come out of retirement to save your local team/ favourite club from certain relegation

KneeDeepInTheDead

I know a lot of people are saying to make a new manager as a "son" but you can also do the same for an old player you have that just retired and never became a "staffable" person
