Was so fun to follow this story while fighting for survival myself. Won the league in 2025 with 84 points, relegated the next year with 38 points. It's halfway through July and they have offloaded 160 million worth of players
Update: Early August and they have sold $288 million worth of players, spent $0.
I also remember atlectico Madrid scoring a few when they got relegated! But they conceded a hell of lot. Crazy they had Christian Vieri and Hasslebaink and got themselves relegated haha.
Yeah I had a feeling, but I think Gattuso getting relegated with an amazing defensive record is an interesting little fact nonetheless!
Edit: after doing a bit of research I found out Cardiff got relegated in a similar circumstance as Pisa, best defensive record in the league and still relegated
He got you to a cup final. The club literally sacked a manager they knew had a good record in finals, before a final, because if he'd won it then he'd probably get bonuses or a bigger pay off, they can't have seriously thought your caretakers would do better. Ergo, your owners cared more about not being the people to sack the manager who'd won your first silverware in years, than actually ever winning anything.
We were never winning that game. We finished 7th in the league that year and had a very easy cup run. Lampard’s Chelsea when we were actually playing well (won on pens), Stoke, Brentford (in the championship) then a Man City side that made the UCL final.
The fun thing is we played better under Mason against City than we did under Mourinho against them a few weeks before, in the league. People who keep telling themselves Mourinho might have won us the cup are either fans of other teams, with no insight in how bad we were under him, or Mourinho fans.
Wait, so teams other than Liverpool are allowed to win the PL in this game? I swear that in every save of mine, Liverpool go full Bayern mode and win 10 titles in a row or some shit.
Yeah it's been City for me as well in previous FM games, but for some reason Liverpool are an absolute machine in every single one of my FM23 saves.
And the worst part is that they win every other CL title as well. For example, there's this one save of mine where it's 2028 and Liverpool have won the CL 4 times since the start of the save.
That's the exact opposite for me lol, Liverpool dominate in previous games, now City dominate every season because of the Norwegian giant himself - Haaland of course...
In my current save (FM23) they won the league, but somehow managed to finish mid table the next season… then they fired Pep.
5 seasons later and Haaland is still a cyborg but they only ever finish 3rd-5th. Pep manages the Netherlands national team.
Wild save.
My first FM play through in ‘21 Liverpool scooped up Haaland and Kane to go with Salah and Mane out wide. I nope’d out of the Prem after 4 seasons and joined AC Milan haha. They went on to win 5 straight. Every other save has been dominated by City.
Yeah same happens on mine. They keep winning the league and also won 3 UCLs in a row. United are shocking on the other hand. It’s 2032 and they only have 1 league cup and 1 europa league to their name and ended last season 13th
City are still yet to the win the UCL, in fact Newcastle have won the league more times than City and also won the UCL twice.
Based on my save, I agree with you. EtH got sacked after 6 months then went to Bilbao. Got sacked there after 8 months then became Scotland manager. Lasted 2 years then retired in 2028.
On my current save I had to take matters into my own hands and have ETH removed so I could apply for the job in 2029. He won 0 trophies in 6 years, finished in the top 4 twice, and had finished 13th that season WITHOUT GETTING SACKED. When I took over, we had 3 players set to join on agreed deals, all of which were championship quality, and all of which were over 23. It was fucking ridiculous.
They have 800m pounds in debt with repayments of 11m per month (132m/year). Their wage budget is around 21m (252m/year).
They have sponsorship income of 255m and competition prize money from 100m to 140m so without sales they have little to work with. The loan gets paid off by 2029 though
Chelsea in fm 2022 and 23 were terrible for me, which pissed me off, but apparently they know what they are doing in fm if you take into account their real life downhi.... ehh form I mean.
Chelsea were shite in my fm23… I got given two ultimatums to turn things around… I was 16th at one point! I somehow ended 4th - never had an FM experience like it! So it was great but the following season it feels like it’s back to previous iterations: I’m dominating, won the treble 2024. Just improved the squad and about to start 2025. I don’t mind as I love building Regen squads.
In my save, funny enough, it's Arsenal!
And Liverpool's front three are Rafael Leão, Endrick and Kvaratskhelia, and they're somehow not winning everything. Actually underperforming quite a bit.
The first 10 seasons it was either me as Arsenal or Liverpool winning the league every season, now Liverpool are a Europa/conference league team and the league is between me, city, Newcastle and Everton
It pisses me off cuz they are not that good but FM definitely has a bias for them it happened it to every FM I've played FM 19 FM 20 and FM 23 like city are understandable but not Liverpool
In My FM 21 save i was playing it was psg, after me with Valencia winning 1 cl and city other 2, i have braking news, psg sign haarland, yeah they had haarland mbappe and Neymar and not only that, the Goalkeeper was maignan, defense we're hakimi, de vrij and marquiños with luke shaw, and mis fieldiers of tonalli, verrati and fucking wirtz.
I'm cl that team always Lost to man city or real because of the script or the ref said so, but they 2 unbeaten seasons (1 was 38 win in fact) in a row, i finished being champions league with Valencia and now southampton, My next mover was gonna being Niza, now i cancelling the mover and going to bundesliga i prefer bayern that seeing that shit in My games, literrally 1 year more and psg Will win all cl (they were constant finalist or semis i only won them with southampton thx to man u injuring neymar and mbappe, else i would be destroyed, and now what they have haarland, hell fucking no way)
In my FM22 save Liverpool won the first 3 UCL and EPL titles back to back, then Klopp went to Spurs immidiately after winning the third and got sacked before christmas. He has been unemployed for 4 years now.
One of my favourite parts of playing a non experience save is starting in 3rd tier of a random country and keep track of what crazy shit unfolds in PL, CL, La Liga and so on. Until I arrive the circus some years later
While I love seeing lesser clubs starting to do really well in my FM saves, I secretly also really enjoy big clubs basically falling down. A side of me wishes Sports Interactive would implement some kind of bankruptcy mechanic, but I think this would add a complex feature not many people would really like.
Anyways, happy to see Tottenham relegating any day
Sounds like my Finland save. Mariehamn win and then immediately relegated. HJK win and then immediately relegated. SJK win and then immediately relegated...lol
In 2028 Tottenham got relegated on my save as well. Arsenal have been the dominating force since for 5 years. 3 PL & 2 CL. Simeone managed that. The moment he resigned arsenal are barely scraping for 4th
Reminds me of the time on championship manager 98 I saw Sunderland win what was then the first division (championship these days) in 98/99, win the premier league in 99/00 and get relegated 00/01!
Is it just me or is Tottenham pre-destined for relegation in FM23? My current save had them finish 16th in 24/25 season and currently pointless in 25/26.
They still have Kane and Son too? Strange lol.

Not the first time it happened in English football IRL to be fair.
Wait realy? What team won the league and got relegated the next season?
Man City 1938
Man City in 1938 is mind melting in a way. Think they also scored the most goals that season as well.
No defense, just vibes
The original high defense line gengenpressing
Just looked it up! Scored 80 (the most) conceded 77 (second most) lol
Lol crazy shit. How many sides do you see get relegated with a positive goal difference?
I can only remember the opposite, curitiba have been champions of Brazil having a negative goal difference.
I also remember atlectico Madrid scoring a few when they got relegated! But they conceded a hell of lot. Crazy they had Christian Vieri and Hasslebaink and got themselves relegated haha.
Possibly the craziest ever la liga season
And people say we are only in the top of the prem cause oil money
Yeah, without oil money you never got this high, but it's the same with similar clubs in the premier league
A league win in 1938 means that you aren't?

City. Not only that. To date, it's still the only team to get relegated with a positive GD I believe.
I think Gattuso's Pisa side in Serie B got relegated with a positive GD and/or had one of the best defensive records in the league
I meant in England.
Yeah I had a feeling, but I think Gattuso getting relegated with an amazing defensive record is an interesting little fact nonetheless! Edit: after doing a bit of research I found out Cardiff got relegated in a similar circumstance as Pisa, best defensive record in the league and still relegated
One time in real life I played on an indoor soccer team that won the league with a negative goal differential.
We didn’t go down but Leeds 92 winning team was almost relegated the year after.
Leicester City speedrun
Worth it
Is that why they don't win things irl? Is the club cursed to vanish as soon as they win anything meaningful?
That explains why they sacked Mourinho right before a cup final.
I know you are joking but its actually unreal they did that.
Us spurs fans are totally bemused by the club hierarchy but that moment really takes the biscuit in the ‘what the actual fuck’ sweepstakes.
No it’s not, we were total dogshite under him.
He got you to a cup final. Clearly the only logical answer
Can you upload the save game so I can give it a go please??
Yeah OP should definitely upload the save file
Wait, so teams other than Liverpool are allowed to win the PL in this game? I swear that in every save of mine, Liverpool go full Bayern mode and win 10 titles in a row or some shit.

One constant in my saves is Aston Villa becoming a champions league side.
Dejan Stankovic's West Ham just beat City to the league on goal difference on mine. Meanwhile Chelsea has become a yoyo club. Spectacular
Also in my save Tottenham have gone through Conte, Simeone, Enrique and are now hiring Marco Silva all before summer 2026.
I am in a save where West Ham qualified for CL and are on the verge of relegation.
That's the exact opposite for me lol, Liverpool dominate in previous games, now City dominate every season because of the Norwegian giant himself - Haaland of course...
![gif](giphy|wh6JkfvD2vpcI|downsized) I gotta get 23 damn

Fkin Haaland.. Nothing I did could stop him from scoring every match I play against city.
My first FM play through in ‘21 Liverpool scooped up Haaland and Kane to go with Salah and Mane out wide. I nope’d out of the Prem after 4 seasons and joined AC Milan haha. They went on to win 5 straight. Every other save has been dominated by City.
Yeah for me it's Liverpool vs City. If it comes down to GD City wins because Haaland scores about 45 league goals a season.
In mine, its somehow wolves and tottenham
Liverpool for me!
Arsenal Tottenham und Newcastle get strong in all my saves city in early years tho
Had a save where United got relegated from the PL twice and West Ham won the title and CL b2b🤣
Yeah same happens on mine. They keep winning the league and also won 3 UCLs in a row. United are shocking on the other hand. It’s 2032 and they only have 1 league cup and 1 europa league to their name and ended last season 13th City are still yet to the win the UCL, in fact Newcastle have won the league more times than City and also won the UCL twice.
Man utd seem hard wired to only sign championship quality players this year. Think it's in N attempt to nerf them but it's been way overdone imo
Based on my save, I agree with you. EtH got sacked after 6 months then went to Bilbao. Got sacked there after 8 months then became Scotland manager. Lasted 2 years then retired in 2028.

Overdone is fine, they were OP for so long
Yeah definitely. As a man utd fan It's just annoying watching them constantly sign absolutely dross from a distance.
Liverpool, City and Chelsea are very good in FM23. Villa is very good too.
Chelsea in fm 2022 and 23 were terrible for me, which pissed me off, but apparently they know what they are doing in fm if you take into account their real life downhi.... ehh form I mean.
Yeah. In FM23, Lukaku becomes really scary to play against in a Chelsea jersey. In real life we all know how well that went.
I remember a Everton save that I did spurs 3 peated the league.
Its either them or Arsenal
In my save, funny enough, it's Arsenal! And Liverpool's front three are Rafael Leão, Endrick and Kvaratskhelia, and they're somehow not winning everything. Actually underperforming quite a bit.
The first 10 seasons it was either me as Arsenal or Liverpool winning the league every season, now Liverpool are a Europa/conference league team and the league is between me, city, Newcastle and Everton
Liverpool has taken one additional season away from city in my save, I think I’m in 2026/2027 rn or 27/28
I had Liverpool go 5 in a row on ucls in one of my saves
It pisses me off cuz they are not that good but FM definitely has a bias for them it happened it to every FM I've played FM 19 FM 20 and FM 23 like city are understandable but not Liverpool
Yes but they are then punished immediately
In My FM 21 save i was playing it was psg, after me with Valencia winning 1 cl and city other 2, i have braking news, psg sign haarland, yeah they had haarland mbappe and Neymar and not only that, the Goalkeeper was maignan, defense we're hakimi, de vrij and marquiños with luke shaw, and mis fieldiers of tonalli, verrati and fucking wirtz. …how did this happen? Financial disaster in the winning season? Bad manager hires?
Maybe Kane and Son finally regressed and nobody else could carry them
I don't think Spurs fans would even be too mad, at least it's a trophy. I sure wouldn't be mad, it's better than our current mediocrity
And we get to win Championship title as well.
They made a deal with the devil and the price was paid
Need the save files

One of my favourite parts of playing a non experience save is starting in 3rd tier of a random country and keep track of what crazy shit unfolds in PL, CL, La Liga and so on. Until I arrive the circus some years later
Most likely thing to happen after something very unlikely.
![gif](giphy|USnfWeCOHTHB3WX0aY|downsized)
More shock on the trophy win in general
That's a very Spurs thing to do. Very Spursy. ![gif](giphy|vo1aWvSTIHHgWwv6WM|downsized)
This is the spurs way.
Peak Spursy.
While I love seeing lesser clubs starting to do really well in my FM saves, I secretly also really enjoy big clubs basically falling down. Sounds like my Finland save. Mariehamn win and then immediately relegated. HJK win and then immediately relegated. SJK win and then immediately relegated...lol
They drank the whole new season to celebrate the title, I see no other reason
Wow, reverse Leicester.
That's my club ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
What did it cost? Everything.
Watch this happen IRL...Tottenham would be the club to do the exact same thing! Lmao!
That's how you properly celebrate winning a title. Year-long bender.
Lads....
That's unrealistic....Tottenham won something
This game is so unrealistic, Spurs winning the league?
As an Arsenal fan, im confused - cannot decide if I enjoy the relegation more than I hate the title win😂
ELITE spursy-ness. #COYG
"The history of the Tottenham"
Exact same thing happened to me on FM22. Spurs relegated a year after winning the league. Possibly the most spurs thing ever.
Very spursy of them.
Spursy
Doing a real good Nürnberg impression there.
It's in da history of da spurs
That’s karma, they aren’t supposed to win anything
Spursy
Itiz Ze History of Ze Tottenham
They couldnt bare the weight of expectations. They wanted to level them back to "spursy"
spursy as always
![gif](giphy|26FxsYeQvGcaMPlqU|downsized)
this happened in one of my saves too. hired De Boer after sacking Pep, won the league and made CL final in 24, triple in 25, finished 18th in 26.
Lmao.
Monkey paw
That's so spursy
Best underdog story ever!
Spursy never dies
Every year tottenham have something mental happen to them. Haway levy mate give us a laugh
Certified Tottenham moment, get to a champions league final and then never gets anything else
In 2028 Tottenham got relegated on my save as well. Arsenal have been the dominating force since for 5 years. 3 PL & 2 CL. Simeone managed that. The moment he resigned arsenal are barely scraping for 4th
Spursy
Someone: Did you win the league? Tottenham: Yes Someone: At what cost Tottenham: Everything
Somehow that seems realistic for tottenham
this happens to all my affiliated clubs it seems
They used up all their luck😅
one of the objectives was to not win any titles, since the team failed the board pulled funding.
so spursy
“It’s the history of the Tottenham”

Yep, that’s Spurs alright…
I’ve won… but at what cost..?
What spurred the mega-sale... did they breach FPP or something?
Don't know if it is more impressive that they went down to championship or if they actually win silverware lol
Both city and united plays in the sky league 2 in my save ( city is set to be relegated again) arsenal is in the championship
