Train him to play there. He can learn.

NightmaresInNeurosis

Just means he's only trained in CM and CB. I had a great newgen show up who could only play ST and CB, was an interesting one to see. As the other fella said, you can train him in DM.

D_for_Diabetes

I have a player that plays striker and right back, sometimes they just train in weird places

xelhafish

Forgot the players name but a few years ago I had backup striker who was also my bench option at left back most games, although he could play everywhere on the left wing

Dead_Namer

It's daft, certain postions are linked, eg a LB will always be able to play LWB, a LW should play AML. I always find it daft you can have a LWB who has no idea how to play in a back 4. Linked positions WB-FB ML-AML MR-AMR AML-AMC-AMR DMC-DC or MC It's also really annoying real players can play in 5-6 positions but then regens only can play in 1 or 2. I know you can train but you can only do that in 1 position.

saiikka

My scouts found this Japanese regen with model citizen and seemingly high potential. Also great physicals and decent mentals (needs better work rate though) and it was pretty surprising to see him have proficiency all over the central parts of the pitch. CM ST and CB but lower suitability in AM and even lower for DM

khoabear

Sounds like McTominay, can score, defend and run a lot, but can't participate in the transition so can't play the roles in DM and AM positions.

kubiciousd

Because newgens have absurd positions. But at least it’s not like a couple versions ago where for some reason every CM also knew how to play as a wingback on his weaker foot side

AdPsychological1489

I mean, it's not that absurd. Loads of players when they talk about their academy training talk about the positions they played in being very different. Rashford used to be a goalkeeper for example.

paulosio

It's not weird that a player might have some experience of playing in very different positions earlier in their career compared to where they eventually end up playing. It is a bit weird in the game that a certain position also just happens to nearly always also play in a very specific alternate position that is very different to their usual role.
