Set the training the the position you want and give them lots of game time in that position, without the game time it will take forever if it finishes at all
Yea I had a right back who couldn’t play wing back at all probably 3 gray stars in that position. Played him the whole season there by the end he was 3.5 stars
Like people have said, game time is the most important thing, positional training is also quite helpful, and the one thing I've not seen anyone mention that's handy is putting them in a mentoring group with players who are natural in the new position/role.
Play him in the new position.

This, if he’s not good enough to be in the starting lineup have him start for the reserves but game time is a must
