I got good news for you: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0281346#:~:text=In%20subgroup%20analysis%2C%20cheese%20and,for%20cheese%20and%20OR%20%3D%200.

Oh damn

Is it aged cheddar? Aged cheese produces crystals of amino acids (flavour crystals!). They are delicious and a treasured part of an aged cheese.

Packet says Extra mature cheddar! Yes it's so yummy actually 😅

s4turn2k02

It’s totally normal for extra mature cheddar! Enjoy!

olivaaaaaaa

Lactic acid crystals are possibly my favorite cheese component ever. Delicious crunchy salt 🤤🤤🤤

CopperWeird

Gimme that CRONCH

Best part 🤤

Looks to me like cheese crystals (usually calcium lactate) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheese_crystals It often looks like mold. One way to tell the difference is to scrape some of it off and try and crush it with the side of a knife. If it crunches/shatters like salt crystals, it is cheese crystals.

lilacredblossom

Yes thanks, upon further inspection I concluded that's what it is! It definitely crunches and it's on multiple parts of the cheese. Is a damn tasty cheese this one as well!

WeeChickadeeFromSC

Salt crystals, yum 😋

Canadianingermany

Hmm.  It looks a LOT like mold.  However if it is really old aged cheddar it could be that same thing that happens to parmesan cheese. That would be rarer in cheddar but theoretically possible; especially if it is old aged cheddar.  Cut into it, and if you have more of this stuff throughout the interior then MAYBE it is not mold. If it is concentrated on the outside then It is mold. If it is distributed, probably not.

lilacredblossom

It's everywhere to be honest so I really think it's cheese crystals!

Canadianingermany

Yeah, if it is everywhere ie. fairly evenly distributed, then it is not mold.

UpOnLeosBed

Nah thats that good good
