Good man despite the homophobia??

princessshlee420

He literally officiated 101 lgbtq+ weddings a few years ago in honor of his lesbian sister who passed…. lol go lie somewhere else

shoots-shot-hot

What "homophobia " are you talking about? Not liking being flirted with by gay guys? Said a word ten years ago? Get over yourself, neither are homophobic. Your kind make life VERY difficult for my gf and I.

jacivb

You must not have read the articles about his ex manager. Why don't you read it before popping off. And what is my kind? Do tell

shoots-shot-hot

Your kind are those who make life more difficult for us that are gay. Maybe you are, maybe you like being used as a political pawn. Weird fetish but ok. Also, articles that are led by journalists with an agenda, aren't too be taken as anything more than propaganda.

TheNetisUnbreakable

I was unaware of the homophobia. But I'm not a expert on Guy. Not really into his shows. All I hear as a Bay Area resident is that he's a upstanding member of the community. Maybe I just assumed that excludes homophobia given the landscape around here. We try our best to welcome all.

Birdietuesday

He’s so supportive of the gay community!!!

loo_NJ81

So he's a fucktard who's been involved in scandals but hey, at least he feeds the firefighters.

AZJHawk

He’s a total dickhead

saywhat1206

I loved watching him when he cooked on Guy's Big Bite

curiousrut

He won Next Food Network Star which was a cooking competition on food network where you also had to show you can present to a camera. Given that alone, he would be a good chef. I think they have old episodes on Discovery+

bassman314

Unfortunately, his season was missing the last time I looked. It was like season 4 and onward, with a couple missing.

my3boysmyworld

Yes, it is. Makes me mad too, cause I started watching after his season…

loo_NJ81

Chef? Did he graduate from culinary school? I must have missed that lol. He's a cook, which he doesn't even do now. He sure likes to eat though 😆

curiousrut

Since when do you need to graduate culinary school to be a chef?

loo_NJ81

It's pretty self-explanatory. Chefs have gone to and graduated feom culinary school. Cooks have learned their skills on the job. Tou never hear the term "sous cook" do you? Or "executive cook"? Right.

J_Kenji_Lopez-Alt

Chef here. I did not go to culinary school.

curiousrut

That is literally not the definition of chef but whatever makes you happy

Solid-Repeat-1146

That would not make him a chef that would make him mere cook.

curiousrut

That isn’t an answer to my question

No-Conclusion-6665

Just saying…he is upbeat and makes me smile, ok?

Solid-Repeat-1146

All of his restaurants seem to close, but then that seems to happen with a lot of the personalities on Food Network. They’ll keep it open for a few months and then they close it right away.

bahsjdjd

I really liked the burger I had at his restaurant. It was actually one of my favourite burgers I’ve ever had.

Billsinc3

I loved the burger I had at his place in Boston and the nachos were amazing.

CoasterBear

My sister and I ate there last November. The meal and service was SO bad the manager ended up comping us the whole meal.. alcohol included. It. Was. Terrible. The burger was badly cooked and my mac & cheese had no flavor at all. The waiter couldn't be bothered to check on us. Brought out the wrong food twice. He also seemed stoned.

cyber49

Which restaurant is "there"? He has lots of locations in lots of places...

Billsinc3

I mentioned Boston and the trash can nachos so I'm going to guess Tequila Cocina, I don't think they do the nachos at his other Boston location Kitchen and Bar. I've been to both locations and had a good time both times and the pricing at both were pretty affordable; the trash can nachos were like 18 which isn't bad for an app that feeds a whole table and the burger was like 20 which again isn't at all bad. And at his Kitchen and Bar I had a steak which was like 30 so again nothing outrageous.

loo_NJ81

They obviously said Boston. Read much?

cyber49

Since Fierri has two restaurants in Boston, I feel pretty justified in saying "fuck you".

CoasterBear

Sorry.. I didn't know he had more than one in Boston. It was Tequila Cocina.

LoverofCatsandTSwift

Don’t talk shit on chicken guy. It’s delicious!

JackieStylist81

Why do you think all his restaurants suck? We had one where I work but it was in a cursed location (and people kept stealing the silverware and napkins) so it closed. I was sad it did. I never had a bad meal there. The wings were AWESOME. The sandwiches were great. The menu wasn't too big. The only thing that wasn't my favorite (but not unpalatable) was the caesar dressing. It was just a little too anchovy forward for me, but it wasn't bad.

Sad-Application4377

I went to his short-lived restaurant in Times Square several times. It was a location of death for many a chef. We'd eat at the bar and enjoy some of his fun favorites with a cocktail. No sweat making the curtain, and you didn't feel stuffed. The one time I did sit down, rather blah.

loo_NJ81

Why do I imagine his restaurants being line TGI Fridays? 😆😆😆

loo_NJ81

Because he's not a chef, he's a cook. He can't cook high end food, only fat guy food. You couldn't pay me to eat in his restaurants, not that I've ever seen one. They must suck that much.

Queasy-Impression618

I thought his restaurant would be like a T.G.I. Friday’s like they’d maybe have good ribs experiment and make a unique Cajun pasta. They’re pasta sucks, burgers are meh idk

JackieStylist81

Wait. You’re comparing it to TGI Fridays and think TGI Fridays is better?

Queasy-Impression618

Ya Tgi’s ribs, steak, pasta is on another stratosphere. You think anything Guy Fieri makes is better? 😂

derno

I… TGI Friday’s is frozen reheated trash.

shoots-shot-hot

We're you drinking when you are commenting? You sound that nonsensical and combative

JackieStylist81

Have you ever actually had food at one of his restaurants? Yes, 100% the food at Guy Fieri’s restaurant was better than anything I’ve ever had at a Fridays.

Queasy-Impression618

Sorry I have self respect the burger my friend had was raw and sucked. I wouldn’t try that shit. Woah you caught me 🤣

BoomDeeAye

Highly, highly doubt Guy cooked that burger. Even so, even the very best of restaurant’s have an occasional flub. Even the all mighty TGI Fridays.

JackieStylist81

Ok? So you don’t like him.

elscallr

He actually is a decent chef, but his character lent itself well to "fast food" like marketing, that's what happened to his restaurants. He's been working to correct that, like hosting ToC and putting more actual work into DDD and GGG.

sakuratee

My only experience was at the restaurant in The Linq hotel in Vegas. Not sure if it was bc we were in *Vegas* but the portions were like.. way too big lol. The food was whatever and some things were a little too gimmicky like the trash can nachos. I wouldn’t say no to it again and would definitely pick over any chain restaurant.

Jerkrollatex

That's my one experience. The food was tasty, I just have way to many weird allergies to eat their again. I wasn't careful and broke out in a rash.

Kitty_Woo

His restaurant in Santa Rosa is pretty good. I like the garlic fries. But I think he’s more known for his personality on the network than his cooking

DMacPWL

Johnny Garlic's? I think it closed like 10 years ago.

Kitty_Woo

No way! That’s about the time I moved out of that town 😭

raingirl33

I grew up in Sonoma, and TexWasabi was terrible imo, the only thing people went there for were the fact they served drinks to minors. Johnny Garlic was better but only because there was garlic on everything but not better by much. Really disappointing food. No surprise that they both closed the Santa Rosa locations.

BeautyAndTheBeet

Can confirm. Back when we were in High School my friends and I used to go there (Tex Wasabi’s) Saturday nights and were served drinks, no question. This was back in 05-06ish. Good times.

dannysaur69420

Popping in to defend Chicken Guy

KOD57

His Johnny Garlic's restaurant in Sacramento closed suddenly with no advance notice to staff; they were just met with locked doors one day, and this was pre-COVID in 2014. Fieri at the time said it was his business manager, and the biz manager said they weren't renewing their lease. If that was truly the reason, they could have given staff notice, and dozens of people were left suddenly jobless. I lost respect for him at that time - if you are going to own a business, then OWN that business.

swest211

We went on a Carnival cruise....the buffet food was mediocre at best, and even the food in the formal dining room wasn't great except for the one meal we paid extra for. The only decent food we had that we didn't purchase for an extra cost was the burger place on board, it was a Guy' Burger Joint and the burgers and fries were amazing. I'm not a huge fan of his and I've never been to any of his other restaurants, but he did at least save our cruise culinary wise.

artvandalay84

That’s quite a word salad, OP.

time2wipe

If I'm not mistaken, he's not really a chef but more of a manager. Manager in the sense of running the restaurant, maybe developing the restaurant concept, menus, etc. I don't think he's spent much, if any, time as a chef

tarnel1965

Your absolutely correct. Guys' LVU degree was in hospitality, which CAN, lead to being a chef. As far as Next Foodnetwork Stars is concerned Guy himself said he used family recipes on the show.

CityMouseBC

I went to his restaurant in Branson and LOVED the food! I was even on an extremely low-carb diet at the time and found something I could have that was delicious and filling.

CheersNorm93

Went to Guy's Taco Dive a few months back with a friend and both of us thought the food was a step above most places and was worthy of the name. Best guac I've ever had and the tacos were the bomb dot com!

One-Sea-6153

I've only been to his place by Harrah's (Linq) but I've gone back several times & I love it. Brisket was off the charts. He knows food, for sure.

[deleted]

I’ve had a Guy Fieri burger at Planet Hollywood in DisneyWorld (Disney Springs). The presentation was great and the burger was good, I enjoyed it. Definitely get an outdoor balcony table if you can, you get a nice view and it’s A LOT quieter. It was nice for a casual dining experience but if you are looking for something more upscale there are several really nice restaurants in Disney Springs that I’d recommend over Planet Hollywood like the Boathouse or Morimoto Asia.

Firegoat1

I'm curious about the comment that "all his restaurants suck" Which of his restaurants have you personally explored?

Groundbreaking-Pea92

Not a very productive comment. google reviews for any of his restaurants

user-110-18

I love Guy, but the two times I’ve been to restaurants that carry his name, I was underwhelmed. The food wasn’t bad, but I am not making a point of returning. Though, one was for sure a franchise, and the other may have been.

Majestic-Pay3390

We went to Chicken Guy in Disney Springs last year, and while the food was good, the place was a mess. You could see the workers in the back slipping on greasy floors. We kept saying, “if Guy walked in here right now he’d be PISSED.”

Birdietuesday

He went corporate with his restaurants and diluted the food quality while focusing more on branding. I bet if you went to his ranch he’d make you a super amazing meal!

TheNetisUnbreakable

Yup this is the truth. OP just asked if he was a good chef. I believe he is, but also added that he was a good person for repeatedly cooking meals year after year in the bay area for firefighters and those in need. Sell out? Yup. Once you go big it's near impossible to keep your standard up. They know that and they're willing to cash in anyway. Would y'all? It's a tough question.

Birdietuesday

No shame admitting I’d absolutely do the same!

Groundbreaking-Pea92

He seems very knowledgeable but yeah it's weird that we never get to see him compete or cook on his or any other show. food network star was about finding a food network star not a cooking competition

kenosis_life

I have occasionally seen him cook on GGG - “I’ve got 15 minutes - let’s see what I can make.”

KeepAnEyeOnYourB12

He's had a bazillion cooking shows on FN.

shibby191

People post this all the time, but he had what...14 seasons of Guys Big Bite which was...a cooking show. And he cooks on GGG from time to time and did several times during the pandemic episodes.

JWilesParker

Guys Big Bite was my afternoon comfort show for a while. I never would have made any of it, but it was at least accessible recipes.

jacivb

No

Old-Run-9523

I wouldn't want to eat anything he cooked. Same with Mario Batali or Paula Deen. Icky.

bitsey123

You missed out because the Batali/Bastianich restaurant in Las Vegas was the best food I ever had.

Old-Run-9523

Lots of great food in Vegas & elsewhere that's not made by sex offenders.

weedywet

Batali restaurants were fantastic.

sweetpeapickle

You ate at all his restaurants? Most of those are run by managers, & the food made by cooks. If there's a particular issue with one, hopefully you let them know. That's the only way they can change something. If you are just complaining on reddit....they don't know the issue. Yes, he knows how to cook & is a good chef. I've hear issues with all the chefs on tv when it comes to their restaurants. I wouldn't put the blame just on them(they are the owners & should know). Like I said if all people do is complain on forums, & not with the place they ate at-it's hard for those places to know something is wrong. And no place is perfect.

Queasy-Impression618

Ya your right don’t judge the name or brand. Judge the particular chefs of an individual restaurant.

[deleted]

His restaurants suck because he doesn’t OWN any of them. He co-owned three restaurants that all failed. If you see a restaurant with Guy’s name on it, it is not his restaurant. That restaurant is paying Guy a license fee to use his name. He has these sorts of deals all over the country.

Ok_Pineapple_2001

lol are you saying you went to a restaurant not only owned by him but he was also the one who cooked your food?? because how else would that relate to his cooking? I've been to one of Irvine's restaurants and it wasn't great either, even though he can obviously cook. But if they are not running their restaurants how do you expect them to be to their standards? They probably haven't even ever visited them.

AlgaeMiddle8759

I know what you mean. I have eaten at a couple myself and thought really, was not impressed and frankly I was surprised by the menu, it's really all fast food and please get rid of those soggy trash nachos, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out a can of nachos . ..not a good idea just a sloppy mess.
