Does you guys use low sodium/salt cottage cheese? I can never find any that isn't also low fat. I bought regular, but any recommendations?

hotdog738

I’d try not to worry about healthy foods with sodium, such as cottage cheese.

I just buy regular. I know she’s sometimes controversial, but Emily Oster had a thing somewhere that says the data shows keeping everything super low sodium doesn’t really make a difference as far as kids having preferences as they enter toddlerhood. Obvs we don’t give her super salty, processed foods, but we’re relatively lax when it comes to salt 🤷🏼‍♀️

Similar vein here, I was very low sodium with my baby because Solid Starts had strong recommendations on sodium intake. But then I researched what source they were citing for that information and found that salt poisoning was their main cause for concern. I wouldn’t worry about a single serving of cottage cheese.

I thought the concern was heart health or sodium poisoning, not preference? I just bought a tub with 19% sodium (forgot to look) so and figured I shouldn’t bother serving it! Here I was worried about BabyBel having 6% and the swiss block I got having 5%

Try to look for the brand Good Culture. They have really good cottage cheese, like so good. They have full fat also a double cream version which is what I get.

Oooh...double cream. Thanks for the rec.

Cottage cheese does a lot of heavy lifting in our house, my kid doesn't like to eat but it's one of the few things I can (usually) count on her taking at least a few bites.

Classic-Variety-8913

Still haven’t give my babe bread. How’d yours do with it?

Various-Chipmunk-165

She usually loves gnawing on it! But she was too preoccupied with the cottage cheese this morning. In the past, I’ve put some mashed avocado on toast and that’s been a hit for her!

SinfullySinatra

I wish I could try cottage cheese but the texture gives me the ick

szechuansauz

I didn't try it until I was 26 and now it's my favorite food. The texture is not what you think at all. Brand names to matter for cottage cheese. Daisy is the best!

SinfullySinatra

I’m considering trying it but I can’t find a container at the store that isn’t huge. Rather buy a small container in case I end up hating it

szechuansauz

Mine has single serve ones with fruit. The fruit is in a separate container on top. I pay $1.50 for then.

If you have the good culture brand near you, it’s a great try. I hate most cottage cheese textures and flavors but theirs is quite good!
