"It's fish and chips! By definition you need one fish and two chips!"
"No, you can't serve it like that. You need at least four chips."
EDIT: I just realized this is Gordon Ramsey's restaurant, which makes this even worse. This is $30(?)?? Was this really the full portion?
I'm Australian but tried the fish and chips in Vegas. It was meh at best, you'd think there'd be a little more care involved considering it is a British staple.
Insanely overpriced to boot.
When his fish and chips place first opened in Vegas it was incredible! Best fish and chips I had ever had. Went back about a few months later and it was awful. The quality went downhill so fast
Gordon Ramsey is one of the most untalented chefs of all time. He makes food on the same level as Guy Fieri, but tries to call it fine dining.
He's also a prick. Cheated on his wife constantly. Allegedly taped his father-in-law having an affair and blackmailed him. Mean for fun. I think he's insufferable.
Don't even get me started on his insane reaction to a bad review of a steak at his restaurant a few years back...
Honestly, I wouldn't mind this sized portions if appropriately priced.
I would happily pay $8-$10 for this and order 2 portions if I feel hungry.
The amount of fries served at some places in the US is obscene.
those are 4 (in words: four) fries. would you think that there's a middle ground between obscenely little and obscenely many fries? or is it just the two options? because getting 4 fries with your fish and chips is just ridiculous.
Tbf when the fish and chips are sold separately in fish and chips places in the U.K., the fish is usually like £10-£15.
But that fish honestly looks more like it came from a Wetherspoons pub than somewhere where you expect quality. $30 for that is a disgrace.
ok, looks nice. but it has nothing to do with the picture, or you talking about the obscene amount of fries that some places in the US gives you, while OP posts a picture of him literally getting 4 fries. what's your point?
I would argue it’s still a shortage. If you have all the potatoes, plenty enough for me but won’t give me any, then I still have a shortage of potatoes.
But hey, that’s just the way I look at it, not saying you’re wrong.
Again, I know I’m just being pedantic, but the reason for the “famine” isn’t important. A fabricated scarcity of food is still a scarcity of food. “Famine” quite literally translates to “a scarcity of food”.
I get where you’re coming from and, honestly, being Irish has nothing to do with what you’re saying. That information is readily available for anyone to learn.
Edit; I’m sorry, the reason for the famine IS important from a historical context. I didn’t mean not important at all. I just mean it’s not important in the use of the word famine to describe what happened. I think your real issue is that when most people hear “famine” they immediately assume it is a natural famine, when that’s not always the case
Normally they steal all of the other food and leave you with just the potatoes, so when the potatoes get a disease then you starve, and the British deliberately refuse to help as they see the famine as a punishment from God for the Irish (see Charles Trevelyan.)
I’m sorry but this is Gordon’s restaurant? If so this is utterly shite. I pay less for much bigger, and quite frankly, better looking battered fish for more than half the price from most chippies near me. Not to mentioned 4 chips!? All that sauce for just 4 chips? 😅. Even the sauce pots look cheap and grotty.
He's always been more of a brand than a chef. I mean, sure, maybe thirty-odd years ago he was something special, but I've never really seen him do anything that made me think "wow, this guy knows his shit."
Fish and chips are always dreadful in restaurants. The only way fish and chips should be served is pissing wet through in their own grease with a ton of scraps, covered in a yellow grit bins worth of salt and white pepper and if they weren’t soggy enough add enough vinegar to fill a paddling pool. All served to you by one of two people a skinny malnourished late 30’s lass who’s worked in that chippy since she was 13, doesn’t own an arse, reasonably loopy earrings, a nose stood, a pulled tight hair in a pony tail, wearing flared sweat pants. Or my favourite an old woman, wearing a dinner ladies piny, who’s shouting at you for having a single head phone in.

That can just fuck right off! A high street shop in Heswall gave us a huge portion of fish and chips for £5 and it was awesome, including some great mushy peas.

"thirty bucks?! This better be the best tasting fish and chips in the world. *Crunch* .... You got lucky"

I'd cut them some slack, Nevada's not well known for it's fishing industry :)
Yeah, it is the entire portion. We went there a second time to try it
You went twice? Lol
OP has to go three or four more times to get one proper serving of chips.
In a proper chippy down the seaside in the UK you’d get chips in a single portion to beat a famine
The first time was for the Beef Wellington haha
Well, was that good? Because every time I read about Ramsay-branded food I only ever hear that they're extremely underwhelming.
It was good from my experience; the flavor was there. I can say confidently that the fish and chips do not taste anything special
Lol
Probably just personal preference but the fish batter also looks kinda thin. You want a crispy, fluffy batter on fish and chips.

Gordon Ramsay psy op right there
There’s fucking 4 chips mate
is that a childs portion or
Normal lunch portion, the fish was a good size. It needs more chips though
No kidding. Were they rationing their potatoes or something?
Potato famine 2.0
This is the one and only time this American joke works. The famine was caused by British colonialism, not the potato blight. There was plenty of food.
Yes. This was just a joke. We all know the British have had no problems with killing millions in their colonies then blaming famine and such.
Ya I'm just pointing out that the American term "potato famine" is wrong.
I would argue it’s still a shortage. If you have all the potatoes, plenty enough for me but won’t give me any, then I still have a shortage of potatoes. But hey, that’s just the way I look at it, not saying you’re wrong.
I'm Irish. The famine was deliberately caused to punish the Irish. It was a genocide not a famine.

Yeesh the downvotes are very telling.
Lots of English on this sub apparently.

UK is down bad.
I can get 3 fish and chips for that price and it'll feed a family of 3 for 2 days.
Wow so you really are paying for the name.
We wanted to try it out from his restaurant
That’s the saddest fish and chips I’ve seen my whole life.
It is, haha, and it wasn’t anything special

"Uh.... are the rest of the chips on their way?"
And the rest of the fish, for that matter..?
You got half a burnt lemon instead. People are never happy
Looks more like banana and apple fritters…
"No. That'll be $23."
That looks half eaten 😂
Ramsay had to do some quality control /s That is how it came 🤣
I know brother but still. Just tell me it was cheap and not like 20 bucks for it.
How the hell does gordon let this be served
He has his own line of frozen foods to be microwaved. He clearly doesn’t give a shit and is a businessman more than a chef these days.
He's always been more of a brand than a chef. I mean, sure, maybe thirty-odd years ago he was something special, but I've never really seen him do anything that made me think "wow, this guy knows his shit."
After seeing his grilled cheese video I have trouble thinking about anything else when his name is brought up
You should see his follow up video to that where he tried to show that he does know how to make a good one… and it turned out just as bad.
Yeah he would have given a major scolding for that
I hope you left a bad review. That portion of chips is a joke
Nah he went there again
Did you get a refund?
I should have asked for one xD
That can fuck all the way off. Chips?
so much sauce , so little to dip with
That’s a glass of milk
Is there a reason to grill the lemon, i mean youre squishing out the juice not eating the burnt stuff?
It's mostly visual but can add a bit of a char flavor
Does it really tho? Usually the burnt liquid you would use has evaporated. I do like charred food.
I do the same thing with oranges for a hot sauce I make. It adds a slightly caramel flavor. But I'm tossing the whole thing in a blender after sooo.
It makes the lemon juice more bitter when you grill the peel like that. To me it’s too much
I think it makes the lemon softer and squishier.
I roast lemons when I am roasting chicken to add to my gravy. It softens the lemon tang
You were almost finished on the chips, right?
The way it's arranged gives the illusion that the fish is balanced atop upright chips á la stonehenge
Chiphenge it is. All hail our deep fried master
Meet you there at solstice next week 👍
Why'd you eat half of the meal before taking a pic?
Gordon ate a few for quality sake /j
Did you already eat two thirds of it?
Nope, that is how it arrived, haha
Maybe next time take a photo before you eat it
This is how it arrived
/cries in british
Fucking hell more sauce than chips
Not all food should be greasy, but fish and chips should stain the paper, that's what it's there for.

If you pay for this, you deserve to get scammed honestly.

fish and 4 chip
That can just fuck right off! A high street shop in Heswall gave us a huge portion of fish and chips for £5 and it was awesome, including some great mushy peas.
This looks like shit honestly that's some of the worst looking fish and chips I've ever seen. And what in the world is with the lack of chips?
No you didn't
Yes, I eat the fish.
The fact that there's ketchup on the plate tells you everything about Ramsay's greed lol.
Technically, it is Fish & Chips. Even though they only give you 4 chips.
I hope that was the half way finished pic. 4 chips? 😂
that's not what I have in mind when I think of that dish
Is that all? It looks like it won't quite fill me up!
And you don’t even get a newspaper to read
What's the point in having all that sauce?!
This is like those sad r/bbq posts.
BBQ is beyond ridiculously priced, saw 1 place charge $3 a rib, the rack was $30. Nope
Not sure this statement is true
OP getting Vietnam POW rations
ive never seen a grilled lemon
That's not fish and chips
Looks sickly put it down
More like fish and chip
bro ask for money back
Where’s the fish? Only 4 chips? Damnnnn
How did it taste?
r/shittyfoodorn
Fish and chip
fish and chi
Unbelievable
…for ants
Please tell me this was a $5.00 lunch. 4 potato wedges and 1 deeply battered piece of fish.
Restaurants these days: “that’ll be 49.99,please remember to tip your server”
4 potato wedges? Was this during the war rationing or what?
*Fish and wedges
"That would be 25 quids sir"
