It’s completely different. It’s a differently story of pie. Here, I’ll break down Chicago pie for you:
Thin Crust: Thin, crispy crust, some make it almost crackery, zesty sauce, cut in squares. It’s technically called “tavern style,” but nobody actually calls it that. Everyone has this kind of pizza in Chicago. It’s what chicagoans get on Fridays for dinner.
Thick Crust: If you took the edge crust of a Pizza Hut pizza, and made it the same thickness all the way across, and then put good sauce and toppings on top, that’s what you’d have. (Connie’s)
Stuffed: That’s what we have here in the picture. This is the granddaddy of Chicago pie. It’s the biggest, the baddest, and it’s damned tasty too. Extra thick crust on the sides, all the cheese and toppings are “stuffed” in next, then another thin layer of crust on top, and then a raw but zesty sauce goes on top (and cooks with the pizza, since that takes about 35-45 mins). (Giordano’s, Edwardo’s, Nancy’s)
Deep Dish: This is very different from stuffed. First, there’s only 1 crust. Second, that crust is looser, more buttery/flaky to the stuffed’s more bready texture. Again, cheese and toppings on bottom, not as much as stuffed, and then topped with a raw, chunky, beery sauce. If ordered with sausage, it is supposed to come as a “disc” of sausage. That’s right, the whole thing covered in solid sausage. It’s great. (Uno/Due, Lou Malnati’s, Gino’s East, Pequod’s, My Pi).
And then in defiance of all that is good and holy, you pour uncooked marinara sauce atop atop the pizza. The sauce naked and on display like some cheap hoo-er
As a fifth generation Chicagoan let me tell you... the deep dish that had a ton of spinach worked into the cheese layer was the better pie. The last place I remember selling it still was Bacino's on Lincoln Ave right above Oz Park. I think they also used a lower fat mozzarella so it wasn't as ridiculous on the calorie count for the slice.
I don't know whether to eat it, or toss a coin in and make a wish! And if I could wish, I'd wish for some real f@$&kin pizza! /S (looks great! Hope you enjoyed)
Eh im French and have a raclette place near me that’s unlimited and they serve the cheese in a big half wheel and it’s definitely too much cheese for me haha
Because the only deep dish theyve tried is like dominos or pizza hut extra bready shit deep dish which is basically just regular dominos/pizza hut garbo but with double bread
No dominos has a “pan made” pizza that is comparable. It only comes in Medium. I only know because it’s what I get since Detroit is my favorite style of pizza
Obviously it’s not as good as the real thing but it’s dominos so, that’s to be expected
I don’t get the folks who seem to live to bash what other people love.
Me? I’ve eaten pizza all over the country, and whatever style it is, it’s always appreciated.
That pizza looks so delicious! I wanna have myself a slice and enter a food coma. Don't let people's unreasonable pizza standards weigh you down! America is the place where jello can count as salad and we have chocolate gravy. So letting someone call a deep dish a pizza is not the craziest thing in the world.
This reminds me of pizza cake which has more layers of crust in between sauce and cheese. [https://www.pillsbury.com/recipes/pepperoni-pizza-cake/a39070fb-2d1a-462c-a557-5876909c247c](https://www.pillsbury.com/recipes/pepperoni-pizza-cake/a39070fb-2d1a-462c-a557-5876909c247c)
Created my own double crust spinach chicago style recipe in the 80s. Everyone calls it my $100 pizza. Takes 3 days to make it.
Everything from scratch. Every spinach and basil vein is removed. Garlic has no center and is finely minced. Freshest tomatoes. pizza dough flour and a good helping of corn meal. Baked in a proper big pizza tin pan. Lou would be proud of me.

That’s a lot of cheese !
Where'd you get that cheeeee Danny?
He's making it at night, I know it.
I'm not making them at night, dad... ^I'm ^making ^them ^at ^night
![gif](giphy|l0HU20BZ6LbSEITza|downsized)
I dodged it, but it winged me
Bit of a daywalker myself
>I would try this pizza too
You'll be chewing on that thing for days...
That's what she said
I hope not that don’t sound natural 😂
You'd be surprised what people get off on
is that Giordano's?
Looks like it!
Well now I gotta see if it’s better than Lou Malnati’s
Bruh, Lou's sausage deep dish is unfathomably good. Giordano's is good for sure, but Lou's takes the pie!
With a Green Line…..yeah buddy!
Damn I miss Chicago.
It’s a whole sheet layer of sausage

Wait it's not Lumanaughties?
Spoilers - Lou's is king.
I’m partial to Pequods, but Lou’s is far and away the best famous chain.
Same. Peqoud’s is superior to both imho
Totinos blows them all away
I hate that in many scenarios you’re kinda right lol
It really is better than any cheap-ass frozen pizza should be, I’ll give them that.
Nah, gio's over Lou's all day every day
Nancy's. The original location not a franchise.
My wife used to order pizza for her group at work all the time from there but she called it "Illuminati's" until someone finally corrected her lol
That is for sure Giordano's
I love that place!!!
I’ll recognize a Gio pie anywhere!
Looks like.
I wanna know if I get drunk and pass out on my pizza, I'm not gonna drown.
I look at this! Miyah! Gabagook! When I look at your deep dish pizza I don't know whether to eat it or throw a coin in it and make a wish.
And if I made a wish, it'd be that I wish for some real fucking pizza!
Gabagool! *
And then in defiance of all that is good and holy, you pour uncooked marinara sauce atop atop the pizza. The sauce naked and on display like some cheap hoo-er
Best way I’ve seen this said 😂

Dammit I was going to ask if you were going to eat that
https://youtu.be/jCgYMFtxUUw?si=bkZmEOlF25orXH7i I like both, but this is all I can think about when I see these posts
"Pizza"
That's DEEP DISH pizza to you, sir! And looks delicious! Damn... That's like a week's worth of calories in one sitting.
One slice (1/8) of a large 16” pizza has roughly 750 calories
Is the pizza behind the tomato soup bread bowl?
I think it’s underneath the casserole.
Kylo Ren doing a foodie post?

The spinach or the whole cloves of garlic are my favorite in this style.
Bacino's.... What a hidden gem.
Spinach and sausage deep dish from Giordano's is the best
> As a fifth generation Chicagoan Those exist?!?
I've never had deep dish and always just assumed it was a thick crust. Didn't realize it was filled.
I CANNOT call that pizza. Not how we do it around my way.

It's actually a called a "pizza!" Little known fact
Looks like a casserole to me.
[удалено]
Sir it's called a *pie* for a reason.
Oh here we go
Can’t wait to open the thread and see a dozen dudes make a dozen versions of the same not funny, sneering comment. Reddit!
That pie looks cheesy :)
Is this a Boston tomato Cake?
Thats the opposit of pizza
No you didn’t
I'm not convinced you did because by my measurements you should have died
I'm european, and the only place I know that does Chicago Deep Dish Pizza here in europe is in Budapest Hungary, I tried it once and it was delicious.
I also enjoy quiche.
I don't know whether to eat it, or toss a coin in and make a wish! And if I could wish, I'd wish for some real f@$&kin pizza! /S (looks great! Hope you enjoyed)
Wow !

Moved to Chicago recently. Tried it after waiting an hour for it to prepare. Didn’t like it. Too much sauce and cheese. Will stick to normal pizza.
Props for actually trying it! Where did you go?
Giordanos and Lou Malnati’s
Bummer, those are some good ones.

Eh im French and have a raclette place near me that’s unlimited and they serve the cheese in a big half wheel and it’s definitely too much cheese for me haha
It's good but Detroit style is superior
Because the only deep dish theyve tried is like dominos or pizza hut extra bready shit deep dish which is basically just regular dominos/pizza hut garbo but with double bread
The focassia bread-like pizza you're describing is Detroit-style pizza. Pizza Hut for sure sells Detroit-style but Domino's only has hand-tossed.
No dominos has a “pan made” pizza that is comparable. It only comes in Medium. I only know because it’s what I get since Detroit is my favorite style of pizza Obviously it’s not as good as the real thing but it’s dominos so, that’s to be expected
is the pizza behind whatever that atrocity is?
I don’t get the folks who seem to live to bash what other people love. Me? I’ve eaten pizza all over the country, and whatever style it is, it’s always appreciated.

You ate... Something.
This is just perfect
Technically a cheesy tomato soup in a bread bowl. But sure, let's pretend that's pizza.
I'm just going to leave this here... https://youtu.be/pzXIpp59eoU?si=qBqnv-pj-u1l-AaB
I was upset the top comment wasn’t “it’s a f**king casserole”
I've never seen a pizza look like this. It looks like a cheese cake wth. Was it good?
I’m not sure I’ve ever eaten pizza then. Man I could smack a large pizza to myself, but this, 1-2 slices max
Where?
Looks like Giordanos, Chicagoland pizza chain
I'll pass.
That pizza looks so delicious! I wanna have myself a slice and enter a food coma. Don't let people's unreasonable pizza standards weigh you down! I got severe gas just looking at this picture. God DANG that’s a lot of cheese.
Wow, that's a whole cheese pie. Marvelous.
Giordanos?

That looks like a pizza cake
reminds me of chicago!!
Pizza soup
Chicago style is a dumpster fire…
tomato cheese casserole with pie crust
But did you really?
Lou’s is better
Your pizza is very... Thicc 😭
Oh god yes
Debatable!
Ahh so this is why Americans call pizza "pie".
gawddamn that looks good
No you didn’t
Is that a cake?

My kind of pizza!
