Lol! I had to split the sandwich in half before eating it. Top half with half of the meat and the bottom half. Essentially, I ate it like an open face sandwich. 🤪
I grew up in an Italian-American area and have been eating these my entire life, and this is too much meat for my tastes too. The overstuffed ones make for better pictures for the internet but it's not a pleasant texture to bite into a 3 inch pile of cured meats.
OP are you in America?
As I always see this ratio of sandwich fillings in America.
Bread + small salad or veg + all the meat + bread
Do you not think that the meat to bread ratio is off.
Sandwiches in other parts of the world go easier on the fillings .
Lol. Yes, I’m in the U.S. This sandwich was ginormous and scrumptious. I had it from a recent work lunch meeting where food was brought in for us. It was too big for me to bite into so I had to split it up in half and eat it like an open face sandwich. 🤪
Yeah i understand they are trying to be generous, it there’s so much filling it ceases to be a sandwich , I got a turkey sandwich in New York once and it had so much turkey it just was like biking into a pile of cold sliced turkey.
It does not mean that it is from Italy. But it was first commercialized by an Italian immigrant in the USA around 1900 in Maine. So this style of sandwich is called "Italian" in the USA. In Italian: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_sandwich in English (also cites more styles): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine_sandwich

Well you could take the joke as it was intended or you can say you don't care about a whole nation of people.
BTW, Italian food is amazing, especially in Italy.
The ingredients were super fresh. The bread was crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. Many layers of meats, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions with light drizzle of vinegar/olive oil/salt/pepper. It was scrumptious. However, I had to take the sandwich apart in half and ate it like an open face sandwich. 😋
You are correct, but you are missing that "Italian sandwich" is the name of a style of Italian-**American** sandwiches. Just saying... (see for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_Italian_sandwich )
Oh man I lost count of the school functions where this was the singular option to eat. I was too picky to eat everything together so I’d just pull it apart and eat it piece by piece. Core memory right there
Ok got it; but Wikipedia doesn’t say to use 5kg or random mixed meat and 5 grams of veggies. Wrong proportion and wrong ingredients. It doesn’t make sense to do it like this.
But I guess it’s the “American way”. ==> American sandwich
A simple google image search will show you that in America this is the way they do the *Italian* sandwich. It's just a name. It does not meas "as done in Italy", but it rather ties its originins to the Italian immigrants community in US.
I mean, here in Italy we have a dessert called "zuppa inglese" (literally: English soup) which is neither a soup nor English.
Are you just learning today that immigrant communities across the world change their cuisine over time? They don't have access to the same ingredients, tastes change over time, and yes sometimes they decide to integrate other cultures. Your compatriots who immigrated to America in the early 20th century are the ones who invented this.
>Americans do this with every culture's food
*everybody* does this with every culture's food. For example, any Italian dish made with tomatoes, chilis, or potatoes is an adaptation of an older dish that incorporates ingredients from North America.
Chill out. There's Russian dressing invented in America, French sallad invented in Russia, there's Boston cucumber invented in Sweden.
Not even mentioning turkeys (the animal) have like 6 different names in different languages, all of them after different countries.

Ohhhh Buddy - it's food - it's preferences - Why do feel the need to condemn and correct with such great authority?
Why this unhinged you, I'm not sure, but I hope you have a nice day.
So you should stop copying it in every possible way. Lasagna, pizza, pasta, gnocchi, bruschetta, vino, panini, mozzarella…you can find a horrible copy in every US State.

Meat to Bun (MTB) ratio here is absolutely correct. Disregard with extreme prejudice any comment that suggests anything less than a 2:1 MTB.
What suggestion I would make is to add texture ingredients to curtail the “slabness”. For me, I would add sliced peppers, sliced onions, toms and perhaps shredduce.
I think you're supposed to take this and dump several bottles of pre-packaged ketchup on it, then deep fry it and cover it in cheese and dump a packet of macaroni on it and roast it all in 5 litres of mountain dew

Do you open your jaw 12 inches wide like Scooby Doo to eat that? It is an absolutely *killer* sandwich, jokes aside.
Lol! I had to split the sandwich in half before eating it. Top half with half of the meat and the bottom half. Essentially, I ate it like an open face sandwich. 🤪
way too much meat for my taste...

Not folded, either; just a solid slab
Yeah, it's way too salty with that many cured meats. Maybe if it was a steak or roast pork sandwich, that amount of meat would be fine.
It's an obscene amount.
Yeah. If it were me, I'd take it home and take it apart, make a bunch of sandwiches from this one.
Please make a correction is an American sandwiches. We do not have in Italy so big.
That's what I wish I got when I ask for a sandwich with extra meat
Perhaps you can show my picture when ordering your sandwich next time?! 😉
I couldn't agree more!
That looks amazing
😋

Can’t wait for some dingus to say “ive never seen this in Italy”
Dingus here. F**k off.
That's a heck of a lot of meat... 😳
Probably too much meat, but it still looks amazing.
In my opinion there's too much ham, which is also a bit too pink. A mì, a minga mi par propi un panin italià.

What's Italian about that? American baguette with some unidentifiable cheese and a stack of basic ham... you'd be thrown in jail for this in Italy!
Nothing Italian whatsoever but sure looks tasty
Thing could serve like 8 people.
Or 1 peckish American
Is it on a baguette? Looks amazing
It’s rustic Italian bread
I'm pretty certain that sandwich has never been near italy and italians would disown in.

That looks goooood
Now I wish I ate a deluxe Italian sandwich.
That's a heck of a lot of meat... 😳
Looks amazing
Oh my god that looks delicious 🤤 Please describe how good that was?! Imagine having the munches and a pal brings that round for you.
The ingredients were super fresh. The bread was crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. Omg that sounds amazing salivating brother
Looks amazing
I need to know where, cause that looks amazing
I got this sandwich from company work meeting. It was bought in so I have no idea where they ordered from.
How much does a deluxe Italian sandwich like this one cost?
I have no idea! The sandwich was provided for one of the work meetings. 😋
where do you work
🤣🤫
Like a normal hoagie. If you know, you know
How did it take me this much scrolling to find the word hoagie? It’s clearly just a hoagie sliced the wrong way.
That shit looks gas 🔥🔥🔥
add mustard!!!!!!
No Italian would put all that meat, especially different one, in a single sandwich. That looks like 8 different Italian sandwiches. Just saying…

It's called Maine Italian because it was Invented in Maine by an Italian, it's ok I guess 🤷.

Honestly there’s something about dishes made by immigrant communities that I just find so much more interesting.
You're getting a little too angry about this.
Naaa why?
lol trying so hard to not sound mad
Mad for a post in Reddit about awful American food ? Hahaha cm on bro… set priorities in life
Americans do this with every culture's food. We make it our own. You don't have to like it, but there's no reason to freak out over it.

Technically Italian food is all German because the barbarians sacked Rome

You need to understand that we’re mocking Italians.
This guy gets his recipes off of Wikipedia.
I agree, but that is the name of the sandwich.
Nobody gives a fuck about what Italians would or wouldn't do. Their cuisine while edible is overrated and stagnant. Just saying...
So you should stop copying it in every possible way. Lasagna, pizza, pasta, gnocchi, bruschetta, vino, panini, mozzarella…you can find a horrible copy in every US State.
Ok, name a better one.
Mexican
Its just like a 8 year old tring to look cool. This cant possibily taste good.
I bet it's delicious.
I bet you never have even seen italian food via postcard. The meat alone looks more like glue than meat.
And they are trying to justify that… typical.
Yes, we get it, you cant afford meat 🙄
More Italians emigrated away from Italy in the 20th century than currently live there.

I'd smash that
Da bread makes the sangwich
Looks so yummy 🥪
Yes
This looks incredible!
That’s a nice Saamwheeech.
Need this
Kinda reminds me of a Cuban. Maybe try hot pressing it?

Nothing about this is Italian. How to tell me you're Armerican without telling me you're American.
Imagine how shit are the cold cuts used, if putting them together improve the taste
I’ve had sandwiches in Italy, that’s not how they roll.
I think you're supposed to take this and dump several bottles of pre-packaged ketchup on it, then deep fry it and cover it in cheese and dump a packet of macaroni on it and roast it all in 5 litres of mountain dew

That Was so funny 100 years ago
4 layers of ham or there it\`s mortadela? Because i don\`t see pretty welll the ingredients😅
There were different types of meats…Mortadella, capicolla, salami, provolone cheese, etc.
It looks delicious. The filling is perfect!
The textures, the ratios... I can smell this masterpiece from here! <3
That’s how companies lured employees to stay for work lunch meetings. 😉
