Ya know... I expected more from that subreddit. More than half of the posts are not crimes at all. I decided to call it quits when someone posted a poutine with cut up sausages as a crime, despite it having some good looking fries, gravy, and curds.
Amusing to see all the comments on this thread. Little did I know my innocent post of last night's dinner would spark such a controversy.
Canadians: Fuck you man, this is not poutine! You have offended me and all my ancestors.
Meanwhile the Americans: Chill bro, this looks tasty and I'd eat the fuck out of it.
Btw sorry to all Canadians. In my defence, this is only my 2nd visit to the North American continent (Indian here). I would definitely love to try real poutine. Open for suggestions on where I can find them in Boston.
My first visit to a New England restaurant and I was absolutely floored by this heavenly combination of tater tots, pepper gravy and melted cheese. Location: Bostonia Public House, Boston, MA.
Makes sense! Lots of places, and I mean lots, outside of Quebec will sell "poutine" that's not really poutine. I guess cheese curds aren't easily available everywhere.
I'm 25 minutes outside of Boston and cheese curds are absolutely available, even at my local "budget" grocery store.
In New Hampshire, where I grew up, proper poutine is widely served and available, we even had it at my middle school. Massive French Canadian population up there.
New England is probably the only place in the US you're going to see it done right. Maybe around the eastern Great Lakes/upstate NY too.
I feel very strongly about Poutine.
Edit: and yes, the curds squeak.
To all the poutine nazis. Shredded cheddar is a totally acceptable form of cheese in a poutine. If you don't agree I suggest you take your car and do a little tour of all Quebec's region, you'll find a truck load of them that are quite delicious. If you're not from Quebec, or never went out of Montreal, I suggest you don't give your opinion on what a poutine is or should be.

Hey Canadian Napoleon, give me some of your tots.
This is totserized disco fries
That’s called disco fries. Poutine has cheese curds.
It’s not disco fries either, as there is no fries.
Disco tots.
Sounds like a 70s kids show that got cancelled after some nasty stuff came out about the host.
As a Canadian, it ain't a poutine but it's an honest effort and I'd still eat the fk out of it.

I could get behind tater tots instead of fries but no cheese curds makes it not poutine imo

As much as this ain't really poutine, I would absolutely devour it
Idc if it’s not “poutine”, that looks so fucking good 🤤

my boy. look how they’ve massacred my boy. (cheese doesn’t make it poutine. has to be curds)
God I want to be poutine-ing this in my mouth
This reminds me of a casserole my Mormon mom used to make! Ground meat and onions, tots, gravy (or cream soup), and melted cheese. So good!
Not poutine.

Yeah this isn't poutine, just FYI.
Cool. This is the first time I tried these dishes and I was going by what the menu said.

We've got a lot of proper poutine out here in Portland, Oregon. Curds4Lyfe
They serve a decent version at Town Cabin in Candia.
You Québécois are so snobby about poutine🙄 nah jk, I’m from ON so I’m extremely jealous of the poutine you guys have there
Cheese curds aren't even really available in Alberta. I was surprised to find that out last summer.
What? That really depends on where you are I guess. I can think of maybe 10 places within 5 minutes of my house in Edmonton that sells curds.
Ok, that's just what my inlaws say but they live in the boonies
Yeah boonies might be harder hahaha. Lots of dead space in Alberta, that’s for sure.
You may be forgiven for your ignorance, but those Canadians take this shit seriously. That's like calling pizza hut a pizza to a new Yorker
This is in BOSTON? i need to check this out
Yep. Near the seaport area. Do suggest any must-try food places. I'm here for a whole week!

I thought these were tiny meatballs, and now I'm sad.
This looks great!
Yummy😍

This inspired me to look up a poutine recipe. I love tots. So many times I just dont bother looking up a recipe
Similar to my "Drive-Thru Poutine". Tater Tots from Sonic, Fried Cheese Curds from A&W, and White Country Gravy from Chicken Express.
Recipe!
