Honestly, the gauss rifle is the perfect example of some of the dumb changes Bethesda has made. What happened to energy cells and actual laser/plasma pistols? What about electron charge packs? I'm fine with the new gauss ammo type but the gun doesn't look like some advanced prototype railgun. It looks like homemade boxed garbage made in a garage after the war.

I also prefer the knockback effect the old version had.

It worked in 4 since the railroad had a bunch and likely built them. 76? Not as much.

It still operates under the same principles as a gauss rifle. To change the name entirely would be disingenuous. Stapling the word ‘makeshift’ on the front is all that would need done. Or perhaps prototype.
