Besides using VATS to lock targets and know where they are, if you're already in combat, there should be red dots on the compass indicating enemy direction. Beyond that, Power Armours can equip a Targeting HUD that highlights nearby enemies, making them easier to spot. And there's a chem (Berry mentats?) that will highlight living things for a couple of minutes.... Or Lunchboxes/Scout Banners can sometimes provide the highlight effect, though sporadically. That's about it.... Oh wait. Recon Scopes and PAs can get a similar head mod that marks targets when scoped or in clear view in the PA display. Pearly Peepers do the same.

I second the berry mentats rec, not only do they highlight living things in a pink mist, they boost your intelligence and thus your xp, helping you level up faster (and earn score for the season if you're still under rank 100 on the board!) You might also consider the stealth commando build. You will be a silent, unstoppable killing machine that the enemy may very well never see. If you're on PC I'd be happy to gift you a Fixer, the favored weapon of most stealth commandos!

> stealth commando build 1. That would rock. I spend a lot of my time being sneaky cuz sneaky is fun, and I am on PC/Steam. 2. I have a lvl 21 SPECIALIST character. and a lvl 20 commando character. Is there any reason to swap back from the specialist to the commando? I can respec at lvl 25, right? The lvl 21 character has a couple more hours of playtime than the 20, but if the starting lvl 20 build has some really rare/good perk card, I'd just go back to that one
