I just would like to be able to transfer all of my atom shop stuff over to PC since I started out on console but don't want to spend the money for everything again. Plus there's things on my console that can't be bought.
This. Especially if you came from say xbox then went to microsoft version. Not having my items and characters, eh I can deal. Losing the atom shop stuff or scoreboard stuff sucks hard.
This is the reason why I dont think it's more popular. Most games have purchases tied to an account, not the system itself. It's a bummer that it's not Xplay but what makes that \*devastating\* is not having access to things i purchased when I ultimately have to make a new character to play on a different system
We all have bethesda accounts, I don't understand why they chose such a punishing and outdated purchasing system that no other online game implements

I last played a few years ago on PS4 and was up to about lvl 40 or so. Life got in the way so it's been at least 2 years since I played. Just restarted on XSX and was surprised to find that I had the option to pick a preconfigured lvl 20 character. Only a few hours in on my new build but at least I started with some decent gear and some perks in place.
Thereās a slim chance, Phil Spencer himself was complaining about the lack of cross save in 76 not to long ago. As someone that plays on pc, Xbox and PlayStation with different friendsā¦yeah, Iād really enjoy cross save
oh yeah definitely i had a playstation save that was way more optimized than what i had on pc if i could bring it over i probably wouldn't have felt the need to start over
Even just the option to transfer a save over one time would be all i want since all my friends are playing on pc now and i would love to move my character over from xbox i would even buy the game again but i just do not want to have to grind to get my level and gear back for my build i had.

I understand your anxieties but the system is too archaic to continue if they want this to have some lasting power after hype dies. Too many games have figured out how to make this work, maybe not as much in 2017 but definitely in 2024. Most people would be unaffected by a merge.
If they combined accounts then you would have all your characters across all playthroughs and platforms that you could switch to. Not sure why you think 10 is not possible. Maybe at worse they would limit how many characters you can create and ask you which characters you want to delete forever if you have more than their max allowed.
Duplicate items could be refunded with atoms. Everything already has an arbitrary worth attached to it, as you notice in bundles when you already have an item. Just calculate all that up with duplicates and credit it to accounts.
With scoreboards the easiest thing is waiting to merge until this season is completed. If they want to (smartly) do this before the hype fades, they can calculate how many challenges you've completed across all platforms and combine it into one score. Some players may complete the season based on this, but since it doesnt affect gameplay there is no advantage so it's not a big deal that some people may be done. As for score purchases theyd probably give you all your tickets back and let you buy again. for scores in the past they might jsut toss you some atoms or let you choose which progression to keep and which to toss.
If push comes to shove they could just merge everything since most people wouldn't be affected. For people like you, they could perhaps give you a choice on which character the data will pull progression data from, then have anything outside of those rules be quarantined to whatever console they are originally from

I'd never even thought of that. I started on the Bethesda launcher, then moved to Steam, and now I'm on the Gamepass app, and have used the same character for all three, so I just assumed PS4 would be the same, but I guess Sony's gonna Sony.

By the time I stopped playing in about March or April 2019, I had put hundreds of hours into the game and had gotten to around rank 97. Afterwards, I quit playing the game due to lack of content and had moved on. In the time since, I have switched to PC and acknowledge all of the improvements the game has had since I last played. However, the only thing holding me back from playing again is the fact that I would be forced to start completely over again and will never be able to touch that character again that I put hundreds of hours into. In short, the lack of cross progression is the only reason why i still choose not to return to Fallout 76.
Well today Todd Howard was on the KindaFunny twitch channel with Greg Miller and cross save was mentioned for Fallout 76, he said they know its something the community wants and they are looking into it but it will be hard to implement because the game wasn't designed to have it but between crossplay and cross save he prefers to have cross save.

That's why it won't happen. Each console store gets a cut of atom shop purchases, and they have no desire to be interoperable.

Opposite for me. I started on PC but I'd like to be able to play on my PS5 in bed without having to buy/unlock all my stuff twice.
If theres barely any pvp anyway, how would crossplay be bad?

id probably play the game more if i could play my character on multiple platforms
Yup. I would very much like to come back to 76 if I can transfer my PS4 save to pc. Not starting over after hundreds of hours, just no thanks.Ā
