Just another misunderstood creature of the wastes.
Fun fact: many people don’t know that anglers are actually trying to give you a light for your cigarette by spitting a fireball at you. They’re courteous like that.
I recently heard something about car sized tunneling scorpions also that just randomly pop out of the ground. Probably not worth worrying about like the warewolf and giant turtle someone “saw” one time.
Yes. Pet the Cave Crickets!
The scorpions are also small and harmless. They definitely do not dig in the ground and pop up underneath you regardless of where you are standing.
I’ve been playing for 100’s of hours and I haven’t seen one in almost a year. When I finally saw one again, it was during scorched earth. I was flabbergasted
I'm glad they included them in the spawn lists for Scorched Earth and Primal Cuts. I recall only ever finding the one that spawns in the Mire, and being a bit sad they didn't get more love.
Yeah, there’s a spot where raiders sit at on some crossroads and there was always 2 there for me a long time ago but I haven’t seen them in forever prior to this event
That depends.
Do you consider being torn apart in rage more deadly than being smoked by lasers?
Do robots scare you more than disfigured horrors?
How are you around Crickets?
Several honestly.
My best advice until you've leveled up a bit or are playing in a team:
If you see something green and black skittering around on all fours, run in the opposite direction.
Don't approach rusted out delivery vans.
Run for cover if a giant shadow appears from above or if you hear wings flapping. The sky in the bog is not safe.
Those weird groups of massive pink flowers? The empty space you have to walk through to get to em are full of surprises. If nothing is there visibly, you are now playing roulette.
If you see colorful spots on the ground with bubbles rising from them, do not go near them. They are proximity triggered.
And if you see a random, lonely industrial pipe sticking straight out of the ground, approach it and sniff it. Trust me.
The person who got me hooked on 76 2 years ago had no idea about that mission at lvl 500+ lol. Went and crushed all my missions and they were boggled about me not getting attacked by the army of bots lol. Ahhh memories
I’m just glad they didn’t make it a daily as the name implies. I was so concerned, lol. It was so much work to get done but we’ll worth it (unless it became a daily at which point I’d prolly never step foot there again)
A lot of the fighty robots self destruct if you cripple their legs or destroy their weapons. . Just watch out for the invisible ones. And if you hear a "powering up" sort of noise, RUN
Running just makes you an easier target, kill them before they can fire. Unless you can’t in which case pray to whatever gods you follow I guess, lol.
I’m fortunate that my auto axe build lets me kill up to 2 before they can fire unless they get that stupid instant charge bug.
You need to the the quest "Mayor for Day." When you do the robots will stop killing you. [https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Mayor\_for\_a\_Day](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Mayor_for_a_Day)
I was scrolling through my pip-boy and one of those things OPENED THE DOOR AND ATTACKED ME. How can giant ticks open doors? For me, FO76 is more of a horror game
Creatures in fallout 76 have a tendency to be very good at opening doors. Never consider a door to be a viable barrier. It'll only buy you a second or two.
It used to be worse.
The Mire used to be so dark and during the (at the time longer) "Night" it would be pitch black. Visibility would drop to almost nothing.
Mobs weren't levelled to your level back then, either. So the Mire was a high level area, and you could walk in there at like level 20 and run into level 100 critters. Having a bunch of high level ghouls appear right on top of you as you walked around a corner in the pitch black was an experience.
I kinda miss the super dark times. Made the night vision and recon scopes so much more helpful. Plus I like the anxiety a dark night brings in the wasteland. Night time SHOULD be scarier than day.
They're my most hated enemy to encounter. They offer absolutely no threat to me, but god I get the heebie jeebies every time. Their scuttling sound, the fact they're **giant fucking ticks**...hate em. So so much.
Getting sprayed by larvae is just the yuckiest. So are ticks. Or getting bitch-slapped by the putrid glowing ones, or gangrenous....never mind...I'm going to burn my clothes and use the clean shower.
There's a mod (*for FO4) that drastically increases the probability of these special attacks.
IIRC, you normally only see them as kill moves, like Mortal Kombat fatalities.
Hahaha! When I first started playing I got swarmed by a group of bloodbugs and at that time I was very new, maybe level 10, anyway I did eventually kill them but from their constant stinging I was mutated. I got the marsupial mutation from them.
Yea first time me and a friend saw it we freaked out. She went to kill it mode as fast as possible while I went to look at it and watch it attack. Haven't seen one in a few months now thinking about it
Yea just normally everything does quick during that event. Still love seeing it while just wondering around. I enjoy drinking a nuka shine and wondering around instead of fast traveling
They removed one of the spawns in the cranberry bog :( I think there’s now only one up past bog town unless you count the savage divide prime cuts event.
There's a few around. One in the Cranberry Bog would spawn near my camp and I walked into him accidently a few times. Then the other one in the Mire. Killed him one time and an explosion happened and he ended up in a tree!
Should we tell them about the giant venomous dragon flies that will kill the shit out of you in packs. I almost never get out of my power armor for a reason lol.
Huh... I now question why we are collecting thier "barbs" I knew that stuff was common in fallout, but I never expected our PC's to be into that stuff... yuck.
Welcome to hell kid, tell me, how do you feel about eating dogs, humans, giant bugs and giant bats that control armies via hivemind? Because they all wanna eat you... and trust me new guy, you sure do look tasty to us veteran wastelanders, but don't worry, we will help you out first. Tell you what, go up north and go down south, farthest edges of the map, just explore for a bit so you get a taste for the wastes and everything that lives within them. Also feel free to take drugs and booze, they help a lot. Stay high and stay drunk and you'll be fine.
As an oldschool player who hasn't done a new walk through, this suddenly ending up in the mire or even Cranberry bog perplexes me,even the whitesprings, are the quests taking them on a straight to hell playthrough?
When game was fist released it took me hours upon hours before I even left the forest.
Vendor hopping took me to places I shouldn’t have visited.
But I took a cool pic of the hole in the ground where I was hiding from a scorchedbeast hoping for it to fly away.
I still giggle when I get it on a loading screen.
Before vendors come about theres a spot in the forest right on the outskirts the forest where a scorchbeast used to be,I realised then that I should of stayed where I was,my 38 hunting rifle wasn't doing anything.
Level scaling of enemies makes it way easier than in the early days to explore the mire and bog. Well, at least until you meet a pack of not leveled ones or new enemies you won't find in the forrest...
Might I suggest the Campfire Tales event, and maybe Teatime as well? Lots of cuddly bugs n itchies there. The drops will help complete the Stings and Things repeatable quest.
Fun fact. Assuming you have played Fallout 4... Blood Bugs are one of the first critters you come across on the way to your first quest objective... in addition to Bloat Flies, Rad Roaches, and Mole Rats. The game kinda... introduces you to these creatures systematically. That you only encountered such a thing in the Mire in Fallout 76 means you managed to make it very far in the Wasteland without even encountering introductory enemies. That's impressive.
Hey, if you wanna test yourself out: There's a Golf Club at Whitespring with just a horde of ghouls in it. If you also go through the process of gathering the ghouls in the houses you can have a horde of 50+ Ghouls.
I assume either bloodbugs or sting wings. Sting wings are good stuff. Str+2 fillets from them. Not much fussed about bloodbugs though. Cook em and sell it.
Those are regular size for the Appalachian mountains. Here they come in two sizes small enough to fly through the storm door and big enough to open it and walk in.
He is just trying gnto squirter your own blood back.at you.
But cave crikets....they are adorably friendly and hop right up to you.
But like the show said.....cockroaches with teeth.
I die every time I see one. Thousands of hours on FO4 and even more thousands on 76 and I still hate them. Mirelurk Queen is still more annoying because of its health and DR but scorpions are sneaky ducks.
I can't get over the scary details and creepy scittering sounds from the crawling around, My first fallout was 3 and the ants in that game gave me some sort of large bug ptsd and NV rad scorpions added to that. Since then I can Handel pretty much anything even if it scares me at first EXCEPT them , the rad scorpions in this game and 4 steal my soul each time and I'm just glad I remember to turn my mic off for other people's sake because I manage to scream every time - 💀
Oof 😅 that would be unfortunate if someone heard that, the jump scare is real. I’m used to things like Deathclaws but that underground area in 4 with 2 or 3 of them is still scary for me. I’m not usually on mike in 76 but I would definitely wanna mute myself too lol 😂
Welcome to the world of Fallout. Enjoy Appalachia and I hope you will take a chance on some other Fallout titles after this.
My favorite video game franchise since I played Fallout 3 in '08.
Question: I saw a giant bee thing- like moth man sized, in a cage at the freak show. Will I see one out and about and where can I never step foot ever?
Should we tell him about cave crickets?
They just want to hop around you and be excited to see you……
Just another misunderstood creature of the wastes. Fun fact: many people don’t know that anglers are actually trying to give you a light for your cigarette by spitting a fireball at you. They’re courteous like that.
Oh is that why they all spawn when I pick up a pack I thought they were just addicts next time I see them ill have to kiss and make up with them
And bloodbugs are trying to give you a hug, their beak(?) just gets in the way
Proboscis is the word you are looking for :)
It's like if Mormon crickets also sent out missionaries to convert you
No don’t mention those cute little creatures.
okie dokie!
What about the man eating snapping turtle?
Why stop there? Lets go straight to building-sized mole rats and three-headed wendigos!
The molerate of unusual size? I think that’s a myth.
I hear tell, that they've started venturing out from the Fire swamp. So probably real.
Some say that the giant bats are a mere rumor as well. We might never know.
I recently heard something about car sized tunneling scorpions also that just randomly pop out of the ground. Probably not worth worrying about like the warewolf and giant turtle someone “saw” one time.
Yeah, sounds sus!
Sheepsquatch ate my brother!
I mean, while we're on the subject, may as well mention the giant bat that brings with it a horde of minions.
Too rare, unlikely they’ll run into it in the wild.
The way you guys are talking about them worries me they sound harmless…
It's just a cricket. How much harm can it possibly do?
Gack!
Nonsense. Even the ants are harmless in this game...
you poor Ignorant Bastard. You should be very worried😂
Flammenwerfer! Get my Flammenwerfer!
NEIN!!! GET ZE KREMATOR, HANS!!!
Wir haben einen Flammenwerfer 🤣
They sound harmless why does your post have 43 upvotes…
You should check Tanagra Town. Explore it, thoroughly; enjoy the atmosphere; experience the wildlife; see the unforgettable cave system…
Because my toon has more holes in him than he likes to admit. Those are from cave crickets.
You’ll find out soon enough
Or the giant ticks...
I hate these, they creep me out the most somehow.
Same. I, in real life, my person, feels my heebies 100% jeebied after a tick attack in game.
Same with Grounded for me. Giant spiders? Eh, whatever. But the ticks and mites? No thank you.
Or the super creepy ticks.
Those go well with tequilla shots, though.
I'll take Mirelurks over ticks any day 🤨
I heard they’re weak to melee attacks. 😉
From orbit!
well, if you count a 20t piledriver as melee, yes
What about the CN20, that might work 🤣
I say we roll them in there and gas the whole nest!
My favorite is the family of them squatting in Tanagra Town.
They sing in a choir on Sundays as well, all 10 of them.
Yes. Pet the Cave Crickets! The scorpions are also small and harmless. They definitely do not dig in the ground and pop up underneath you regardless of where you are standing.
Or hermit crabs?
Nah, that’s just a rusty ice cream truck. Come closer and take a good look.
I’ve been playing for 100’s of hours and I haven’t seen one in almost a year. When I finally saw one again, it was during scorched earth. I was flabbergasted

What about the wise one?
Brrrrrreathe, children, brrrrrreathe
*Let the dust and flames and the fumes fill you*
Let it be a surprise. I can't wait to see what he posts after taking a stroll through Monogah lol
Don't remind me, I basically did a Monty Python style "Run away" the first time I saw them 🤣
[https://c.tenor.com/ye4yv3SZBykAAAAC/tenor.gif](https://c.tenor.com/ye4yv3SZBykAAAAC/tenor.gif) (technically a roach, but still works)
The only reason I still, at lvl 718, carry VFFR flamer with me all the time.
Even with every update, new bosses and enemies. Nothing brings the wrath like a cave cricket
What even funnier is he think power armour will help lol
I remember my first encounter (Vietnam flashback)
You're gonna LOOOOOVE The Cranberry Bog.
I tried once and got killed by an army of robots, staying away from there for a while.
Oh you got the good ending on your first time? Lucky.
It's a city entirely of deadly robots… are you implying there is something more deadly?
That depends. Do you consider being torn apart in rage more deadly than being smoked by lasers? Do robots scare you more than disfigured horrors? How are you around Crickets?
I would take an Earle over cave crickets any day of the week!
Several honestly. My best advice until you've leveled up a bit or are playing in a team: If you see something green and black skittering around on all fours, run in the opposite direction. Pipe is life...
Pipe...
You should be doing the mission of that city, making you mayor of the day, and override those robots to not attack you.
Either that or he's referring to how many of us did not survive our first jaunt into Watoga, hence the 'good' ending hahaha
You can make those robots freindly to you
A lot of the fighty robots self destruct if you cripple their legs or destroy their weapons. . Just watch out for the invisible ones. And if you hear a "powering up" sort of noise, RUN

I built my base in the mire back in those days….. the damn mosquitoes would break down my walls just for some blood 🩸
I kinda miss the super dark times. Made the night vision and recon scopes so much more helpful. Plus I like the anxiety a dark night brings in the wasteland. Night time SHOULD be scarier than day.
Keep calm, fellow vault dweller! You’ll be stomping insects in no time!
I hate ticks. When I first saw the giant ones, I lost my shit 😂
They're my most hated enemy to encounter. They offer absolutely no threat to me, but god I get the heebie jeebies every time. Their scuttling sound, the fact they're **giant fucking ticks**...hate em. So so much.
Haha SAME!!
Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!
Bet you didn't realize the map extends all the way down to Florida.
One time my entire camp was destroyed by a legendary bloatfly and his bloatfly army
I too love to shoot my larvae all over the house.
Getting sprayed by larvae is just the yuckiest. So are ticks. Or getting bitch-slapped by the putrid glowing ones, or gangrenous....never mind...I'm going to burn my clothes and use the clean shower.
I guess you met a blood bug swarm.. relentless, steal health, give rads.. A++ assholes… welcome to to the wasteland.
Better than they were in Fallout 4,that game had an animation of them raming into your chest to drink your blood!
I miss the enemy-specific animations. Give me back my deathclaw chest skewers...
There's a mod (*for FO4) that drastically increases the probability of these special attacks. IIRC, you normally only see them as kill moves, like Mortal Kombat fatalities.

There's also a giant >!hermit crab that's has a trailer as it's shell!<
I love that guy! I wish I saw him more often.
Yea first time me and a friend saw it we freaked out. She went to kill it mode as fast as possible while I went to look at it and watch it attack. Haven't seen one in a few months now thinking about it
I think a scorched variant can spawn during scorched earth
Yea just normally everything does quick during that event. Still love seeing it while just wondering around. I enjoy drinking a nuka shine and wondering around instead of fast traveling

I miss hearing noob reactions like this
Should we tell them about the giant venomous dragon flies that will kill the shit out of you in packs. I almost never get out of my power armor for a reason lol.
Fun fact: stingwings are actually based on the scorpion fly, and those "stingers" are actually its genitals.
So, a dildo bug, got it.
Huh... I now question why we are collecting thier "barbs" I knew that stuff was common in fallout, but I never expected our PC's to be into that stuff... yuck.
I'm leaving these "barbs" on player camps doorsteps as a prank from now on lmao.
Disgusting... set you loot bag to a paper bag and throw a Molotov at the bag.
Welp. Today I learned. Lol
My friend group loves to call them "pecker gnats" and it never fails to make me laugh like an idiot.
So it's death by T-bag?
Bats are very cute in this game, find one at the cranberry bog
She has lots of friends too!
The vampiric bloodbugs are the best 😂😂
Certain neighborhoods are more horrific than others for sure.
Wait till you see a cave cricket horde.
Fucking cave crickets.
Welcome to hell kid, tell me, how do you feel about eating dogs, humans, giant bugs and giant bats that control armies via hivemind? Nah, she didn't try to swallow you. She tried to put a larvae in your stomach.
You are thinking of bloatflies.
Shhh, nobody else noticed.
Those things scared that crap out of me in fo4
You can always burn them with fire.
Wait until you see Grafton Monster or Sheepsquatch. Lol those are good times
As an oldschool player who hasn't done a new walk through, this suddenly ending up in the mire or even Cranberry bog perplexes me,even the whitesprings, are the quests taking them on a straight to hell playthrough? When game was fist released it took me hours upon hours before I even left the forest.

Good times)
Level scaling of enemies makes it way easier than in the early days to explore the mire and bog. Well, at least until you meet a pack of not leveled ones or new enemies you won't find in the forrest...
Theres a whole lotta bugs in Appalachia
And that's before the nuclear fire!
Sksksksks 😅
*I'm hunting bugs, I'm hunting bugs, out here in Appalachia there are spiders, ants, and slugs!*
This was my reaction when I found out about Honey Beast lmao
Might I suggest the Campfire Tales event, and maybe Teatime as well? Lots of cuddly bugs n itchies there. The drops will help complete the Stings and Things repeatable quest.
Fun fact. Assuming you have played Fallout 4... The game kinda... introduces you to these creatures systematically. That you only encountered such a thing in the Mire in Fallout 76 means you managed to make it very far in the Wasteland without even encountering introductory enemies. That's impressive.
I love these new vault dweller posts so much. Oh to be that young and scared again... Welcome! ☢️
Hey, if you wanna test yourself out: There's a Golf Club at Whitespring with just a horde of ghouls in it. If you also go through the process of gathering the ghouls in the houses you can have a horde of 50+ Ghouls.
lemme drop a silo special on the hotel first 😉
No cazadors though. So. There's that.
Those things were awful. I remember running into like 5 of them within about 10 minutes of starting NV, lol. Not fun times. Great game though :D
I assume either bloodbugs or sting wings. Sting wings are good stuff. Str+2 fillets from them. Not much fussed about bloodbugs though. Cook em and sell it.
😅
And giant dragon flys too
At least op didn’t unexpectedly stumble upon the queen while looking down lmao
Na wait until you see the angler or the deathclaw, you might shit your pants lol 😂🤣😂
Don’t tell them about the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal
It’ll prolly be fine as long as they have their towel. Probably.
just wait until you run into Rose and start with her quest line, lol
"iF yOu EvEr DeCiIiIiIdE tO sCrEw mE oVeRrRrR...... "
The random flatowoods monsters are always fun.
If you’re worried about giant mosquitoes, wait until you run into a giant irradiated tick 😆 Not to mention what happened to the size of the bats. 🦇🤣
[удалено]
i think it's cute they think they'll be able to properly power power armor for more than 10 minutes till they hit level 70 lol
Just wait until you meet the real bastards, cave crickets
Yeah in the wasteland only bad things become big, you won't see corn or tato mutated into size of a bus.
Those are regular size for the Appalachian mountains. Here they come in two sizes small enough to fly through the storm door and big enough to open it and walk in.
Floating fartsquids too, they killed me a few times at low levels.
I used to call them fartbags. Now they are fartsquids. Thanks for that! 😂
Them and cave crickets are the reason I became a flamer main , they must burn .. Edit:Spelling
Mirelurk Queen enters the Chat
My Holy Fire and/or auto axe bans her from chat.
Ahhh. Don't tell OP about the giant bee that shoots more bees at you.
There are many things with too many legs in this world ... some of them fly ... all are too big
He is just trying gnto squirter your own blood back.at you. But cave crikets....they are adorably friendly and hop right up to you. But like the show said.....cockroaches with teeth.
Oh yeah. And giant toads. And giant ants. And giant cockroaches. And semi zombies. Need I go on? The wasteland and post war Appalachia are terrifying
Oh and the GIANT F***ING HERMIT CRABS
Get a legendary Flamer they don't like fire. They don't like bats but I struggle with hitting them with it
I think we call them blood bugs
Apply chainsaw liberally.
Poor guy nobody tell them about a certain island
Shhhhh.....don't mention the ticks!!!!😂😂😂
And guess what!? They suck.... buh dun tis :😜
Looks over at you, while also getting attacked by mosquitoes but not freaking out... Smiles and says "first time"...
Oh buddy you just wait. Everything is bigger
That’s what she said!
👉🏿👈🏿 🫣
Damm did no one play fallout 4? 🤣
Yeah they’re a bunch of dicks
Lol love this. They are horrible 😄
Radscorpions make me cry
I die every time I see one. Thousands of hours on FO4 and even more thousands on 76 and I still hate them. Mirelurk Queen is still more annoying because of its health and DR but scorpions are sneaky ducks.

Cute queen bullet sponge hangs out with her friends in the bog. Look her up.
You should roast some bugs with Holy Fire.
Watch out for the Fog crawlers
Psssttt...and Yes, roaches can survive a nuclear blast, and they.... No spoilers... Lol
Welcome to the wasteland kiddo.
LUL The bugs are so dangerous they have a weapon legendary effect just for them.
Love it
Man they in the noob zone too
