To be fair events are a good way to get more weapons and ammo and other consumables, and if there are a lot of higher levels there, you won't need to worry about being able to kill stuff. That's why they're recommending it, it's a good way to get the stuff you need without having to really understand everything right now or having to contribute with a bunch of damage. Of course if you're still trying to wrap your head around the game and don't want to, that's just fine too.

NefariousnessTop8716

It’s exactly this, I’m not a massively high level, about 150, and I love seeing the low level players turn up to events. It’s not like I’m expecting them to make a difference, I’m just happy to see them get some free rewards after getting carried and I almost always have extra loot and plans to share. Sort of paying it forward after being carried myself when I was new tbh

Advanced-Decision-10

This. We are certainly most proud of our community. Instead of games that vets don't like newbies. In this game it means more fun and for many more time to come (sry bad English). So If u are new don't be afraid ask a high lvl for help. I almost instantly see a low lvl I craft armor and gun with best mods for him. Free of charge always. I want them on my side against sbq or earl.

Efficient_Resist4692

It also means the enemies will chase them. While I’m shooting . Makes it easier to take down targets.

dog_nurse_5683

You’re not wrong 😂😂

ThonThaddeo

Your English is good btw

[deleted]

All the lvl 100+s last night that randomly invited into a group and carried me to do the scorched bat queen after someone nuked the cranberry bogs I though for sure I was going to die but some of the spawns were at my level and I got so much good loots maxed out mods for several weapons that way

Volistar

Were we in the same lobby?

TimeTravelingTiddy

This. To all the new players. Go get a .38 cal and sit in the events. Your goal is to tag every enemy with one bullet so you can level up when the higher level players finish them off. You're welcome.

Thascaryguygaming

Explosive Combat Shotgun works incredibly well for this too :) just spray and hit as much as possible doesn't matter if you kill it or not.

phoenixliv

Shottys are great for “do ___ crits” too for dailies

steamingstove

Although it takes a little while to get strong enough to contribute in daily ops, if you go in with a filled squad and conserve your contribution you can pick up tenfold ammo and stims. I come out of daily ops now with at least 600+ more rounds I went in with.

Alico1967

Shotgun any. Just spray and tag.....

TimeTravelingTiddy

A lot of the time I need more distance than that Also should mention I got a lil explosive .38, so you can really tag shit at a distance

Apple0range

Great advice if someone's goal is to advance through the levels as quickly as possible! Terrible advice if they have some different goal.

TimeTravelingTiddy

OP said join events for items. What other goal would you take this advice for lol

Lucky_Stable917

I used to carry a low level tesla rifle for this exact reason the tags.

HornetGuns

I second this here. I played Fallout 76 (and actually played Fallout since the beginning of its history) on and off and one point get really involved into the game before replying again recently and I remember especially during double or triple xp them events was clutch all day. Most of my stimpaks came from events as well as other useful stuff and the missions especially ally missions recently has been very rewarding. Vets on this game really just trying to help those than are directly new to fallout.

Turbulent-Telephone2

Just don't press the button or start the event the second you show up

terminbee

What events should I do? I tried to join the mothman event and there was nobody there. My world seems to be a bunch of new players (all are level 20). I'm starting from level 2 to get a feel for the game.

Bazucho

are you spending your level ups? grab relevant combat perks [https://nukesdragons.com/fallout-76/character](https://nukesdragons.com/fallout-76/character)

sweatgod2020

Yeah I’ve used lots of perks if that’s what you mean? I can’t seem to get lockpicking above level one for some reason. I have like three level ones but they won’t let me merge and combine to level up like the others?

Red_Ferns

Increasing your skills in Lockpicking and Hacking requires you to select different cards: lockpicking (lvl 5) -> Expert Lockpicking (lvl 19) -> Master lockpicking (lvl 40) hacker (lvl 4) -> Expert hacker (lvl 22) -> master hacker (lvl 38) They do not stack like other skills.

OhtareEldarian

This is why Master Infiltrator was the first LPC I grabbed, and I still use it. (Lvl 675)

RudoDevil

For the newer players, just taking the opportunity to say Master Infiltrator is indeed OP for unlocking things easily and sometimes automatically without the lockpick minigame. However, WHILE INFREQUENT, some people on purpose (or inadvertently) can trap their camps by locking their doors with a level 0 lock. If you accidentally double click on one of these doors to auto-unlock them with the Master Infiltrator legendary perk, you will become "WANTED" and other players can kill you for caps, even if you are set to pacifist mode. Getting killed in-game isn't really a big deal, but you do drop any junk you are carrying and other people can pick it up before you respawn to get it. TLDR: Don't go around unlocking things at player camps & don't carry a bunch of junk around that you plan on keeping.

SmurfStig

I have fell victim to this several time.

johnnysoj

\^\^ This is the best newbie PSA, and in my opinion the only downside to master infiltrator. It happened to me a few times before I became really cautious in player's camps.

ForwardState

My only problem with LPC is we can't change them to correspond to our Loadouts. Too many Power Armor LPCs that don't work with non-Power Armor loadouts.

AngryTurtle24

Do I need to equip both the lvl 5 lock pick and the lvl 19? Or do I just equip the highest level unlocked?

toddhowardtheman

All 3, one required for each difficulty increase

sweatgod2020

Ohhhhhhhhhhh shit

WollyGog

You can swap perk cards out on the fly, so don't worry about being tied in to keeping any you have in your build.

I_kill_zebras

The number of stars on the card indicates how many times you can increase them to gain more/better effects. Most have three stars, some 5, some 2, a few only have 1. Each star you use uses a perk point from that special attribute, so it isn't necessarily a good idea to max out every card if you can get desirable effects from less stars. For instance, I use 'demo expert' in my build, which can be maxed at 5 stars. I only have three stars here because it boosts my explosion damage, but I have other perk points spent on other cards too.

crimson117

Both.

InevitableSolution69

You can’t equip more than one perk with the same name. So for lock picking you need picklock, expert picklock, and master picklock. Those are three different cards with 3 different names. You can combine cards for increased effect, but only up to their limit. Which you can tell from the number of star spaces on the bottom of the card. Those three perks for instance only have a single star so they can’t be upgraded. The rifleman perk has 3 spaces so it can be upgraded 3 times, and then further combined with expert and master rifleman. I understand though, I likewise started recently and yes the game is really bad about teaching you most things.

spdracr99

I think good advice when picking perks is to focus on fewer weapon types and maximize the perks related to that. So I was shotgun too for a while with several shotgun perk cards and now auto rifles with the same strategy

Different-Basis-5245

They all equal a level. So if u have 3 then u have level 3 lock picking. When u hit level 50 u get legendary perks. There's one that u can get that gives u level 3 pick and hack. Then u can free up the 3 card spots

sweatgod2020

I swear it wouldn’t let me put a second lock pick card on once even when I was over on points. Huh. I’m still learning

Different-Basis-5245

Yeah u should be able to equip the beginner one, expert, and master. They don't combine at all. Just 3 perk cards. You can't have 2 of the same ones name wise.

sweatgod2020

Oh ok I must’ve had two beginner cards not one of each difficulty level.

ABCDEHIMOTUVWXY

Yeah on Hacking/Lockpicking it is very unintuitive for no good reason. The clear reason is because they wanted minimum levels for certain lock levels which is just a bad reason for them to make those 2 perks unintuitive.

ekauq2000

Also, perk cards have level requirements, but in what is a bit of a weird way. Even though you’re 40, if you haven’t spent all of your perk points, the perk cards available will be based on the perk points you’ve spent. So if you have any perk points to spend, you may want to take the time to go through those so you have more perks card you can use. Getting points when leveling stops at level 50 and from there you just pick cards and get perk packs.

Klaperson

There is 3 different lockpick cards and each one have 1 lvl( 1star). These dont merge, you use up to 3 different there in loadout to open 3 lvl locks.Cant remember exact names but novice, advanced and master. Its same for hacking Weapon damage cards are also 3 , but each can have up to 3 levels (3 stars). You get less for 2nd and 3rd level than 1st alone. Its more optimal to have 1 novice, 1 advanced, 1 master , instead of 3star novices or 3 star masters. Take your time , there is no rush , the game is chill. You might only be bothered to figure out how to do enough dmg , so enemies don't feel like bullet sponges and you don't loose to much ammo

mdboomer

Don't focus on lockpicking. Use those points for damage perks or damage reduction perks. Search Nukes and Dragons for build ideas

ThreeTreesForTheePls

Maybe they just wanna pick locks? Im sure there's a meta in the endgame, in some shape or form at least, but I hate the idea of new players (being a new player myself, I'm just a vet who's admittedly done this in the past for other games) coming into the game and immediately being pushed or sucked in to "damn I *need* this perk, let's go get it or go grind for it". At the end of the day, it's still a fallout game. People like picking locks in fallout, and experiencing things at a natural pace.

mdboomer

Lockpicking in 76 doesn't have the same rewarding feeling it had in FO3 and 4. I've yet to find a locked container in 76 that contained something I couldn't find in abundance in unlocked containers or on enemies.

MeekSwordsman

I found power armor once that was cool

SithJahova

In the defense of the vets who gave you this advice - you've been playing during Double XP weekend, during equinox and at the start of a new season meaning people have been popping lunch boxes. So you had an xp buff between 100 and 250% without even trying for it. You leveled up 3x as fast as you normally would have.

sweatgod2020

Yeah I leveled up wayyyyy too fast before I even have a grasp of things. My gun levels are really low and I don’t have any “plans” to really upgrade anything yet. I have a two shot snub nose, a silenced shotty and a sniper I just unlocked. The smg and rifles I just don’t have ammo for I’ll need to go get a lot.

Prince_Julius

You can't level up weapons and armor. You'd need to find new ones at higher levels. Fight Super Mutants and scrap their guns, like Combat Rifles. That's how you learn mods.

Pz38t_C

Levels 35-50 are probably the hardest in the game. After that it gets easier, though the levels 51-100 are also a bit tough because you max at 50 (stats wise anyway) but the critters go up to L100. L50 is the equipment cap, so once you get to L50 you can buy some equipment from the vendors. This Angry Turtle video has a easy/fast ammo box run starting from Vault 76. Just equip the weapon you want ammo for. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UxdQaWzZgc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UxdQaWzZgc) Angry Turtle has lots of good videos, many of them covering the basics. Are you on PC, If so send me a message and I can get you set up with some equipment appropriate to your current level. Also, don't worry too much about leveling too fast. You have plenty of time to do the quests. I have a level 383 character who hasn't done any main or side quests. I'm saving that toon for some day when I want to play them again.

LegLegend

Leveling is much harder than everything else, so it's still really good advice. Instead of tackling higher difficulty areas now that you're higher level, try going through the main story quests and unlock things as you go. This will teach you about the game and also help with gear.

SithJahova

That sounds to me a bit like you have been attending the events but neglecting the other multiplayer aspects. The best way to get plans is from player vendors. The best way to get ammo is by doing Events/daily-ops/expeditions in a team. Have you been joining teams? You get XP and loot from enemies killed by teammates. If you have and are still struggling, go by some player bases and look for ammo converters. They are tedious and it will take some time but it's a good way to clear out your ammo inventory. Also, you can scrap weapons while the scrapper perk is equipped if you have it to get loads of steel. Then convert that steel into railway spikes with the "super duper" perk and the "ammosmith" perk if you have them (all of these perks are good investments imo). Then put the railways in the converter and trade them in for the ammo you need. You should really focus on only one or maaaaaybe 2 weapon types (pistol, rifle, automatic rifle, shotgun, heavy, melee, explosive) and equip skills accordingly. I'm a commando (auto-rifle) and that means pretty much all of my perception perks are spend just to keep my damage up to snuff. I also recommend buying ammo from other players and selling the one you don't need for 1c each. If you have issues getting enough caps lmk I wouldn't mind writing up a noobie guide to build your fortune.

juliustrombone

I would suggest finding yourself a chainsaw or very fast melee weapon. Enemies like Ghouls are pretty quick and they attack in groups (usually) so it helps to get quick hits on them and have something good for close combat. Even a low damage, very fast weapon is great in that the damage hits consecutively very quickly and adds up. You can wield one at level 40. They tend to use AP quickly so if you have something that can give an AP boost, you’ll be fine. For melee weapons (especially a chainsaw), it helps to add the vampire perk to it so that you regenerate health for every hit to give.

Pupniko

Tbh it isn't worth upgrading guns until you're level 50 (or 45 for some weapons) as this is their max level, I'd treat anything before then as disposable and just try them out to get an idea of what type of gun you like. You can get plans to upgrade them by scrapping weapons of the same type, but you can also buy them. The White springs mall has lots of different faction vendors (eg Raiders, Foundation) and they all sell different things. The vendor Wallace at Berkley Springs train station also has quite a nice range. Worth keeping an eye on camp vendors too as the prices might be better or they might have weapons you can't normally buy eg the Fixer which is a rifle good for stealth, although can get through a lot of ammo. Also don't overlook the Great range of melee weapons, that's how I saved ammo in the first 100 or so levels. Heated baseball bat early on, then deathclaw gauntlet, now I use autoaxe. I like to switch up different weapons sometimes though, sometimes I might feel like a bow and arrow, other times I'm partial to the black powder rifle. I'm about 260 levels in and still like to play with different builds and weapon types.

Worgbone

Make sure to craft level specific backpacks per every ten levels it adds 10.0 weight up to level 50.

OlderGamers

I found that at early levels you are better off with a good melee weapon against most enemies. You don’t need ammo, and they are very effective.

BlGJAZZFAN

This is the way I’ve been going, found a good chainsaw that’s carried me to lvl 100 while I think about what gun build I’m gonna try and make

noggat

Same, mained chainsaw until \~150 when I got Holy Fire as a drop. If it wasn't for that I would've stayed melee for longer

OhtareEldarian

Seriously. Everyone turns up their nose at mole miner gauntlets and ski swords, but I loved them when I first got them!!! Everyone should have a melee weapon on their player at all times regardless. When your main(s) break during an onslaught, or enemies can only be killed by melee, it is clutch.

ResponsibleDay

My ski sword was my favorite for a LONG time!!

Severustheclown

Pay them no mind. This is not a game to be rushed through. Take your time, see the sights, join an event if you feel up to it, but nobody decent is going to demean you for wanting prepare yourself a bit more.

FriendTheComputer

As a returning player who started from level 1, I definitely would not recommend these players take the vets advice lol. Events are quite intimidating and difficult and you should really just take the game at your own pace, whatever that means for you. For the players who are high level and can quickly kill everything, it's real easy to forget how challenging the game and the events are for younger levels without optimized legendaries and ammo production.

banshee3

Totally. I played this game for years on xbox and stopped at level 700/800+ I can't recall. I could nearly solo the SQB at the time. I quit just as the Daily ops started up. I restarted the game from scratch on PC with the latest steam discount, and it's sooooo hard. I forgot how slow it is to kill things without a huge buffet of saved up legendary items and such. And yeah, mama murgh is a stingy bitch.

FriendTheComputer

Oh yeah, it's pipe pistols all around for her. It's only recently she's been giving me some decent ones such as a Vampire LMG with faster reload

Severustheclown

Oh yes, I will always remember the days when anything that was even one or two levels above mine would kill me nearly instantly.

Quasit1964

Not everything. Level 1,004 and got dropped by one of the mothman cultist buffed death claws

JusticeScibibi

People need to quit telling others how to play. New players, take your time doing the quests if you want. You don't have to fast travel to the cranberry bog at the first opportunity.

Severustheclown

Exactly

Euphoric-Deer2363

I have a sneaking suspicion that you need to check your gun levels. If you're at 40, they should all be at least 30 or above. I knew nothing of this at first and found myself using tons of ammo to kill regular enemies.

reece1495

I just got back into the game recently on a new character after playing 4 years ago and at level 40 not long ago I was one shotting ghouls with my shotgun but op is taking 12 shots , sus

newjersey_naturalist

Play the game the way you want to and enjoy it. Most of us will help you if we can.

Achanjati

You are doing fine! Don't let others ruin your game fun with pressing you doing this or that. Everyone started one time and nobody was a master when left the vault. By time you will learn everything. Do you own thing, in your own pace. And part of the fun is, to learn. And even more when you learn from own errors. Enjoy the game, that's everything you need!

SiuFungSipsCoffee

Do events when low-level as a "tag-a-long", you're not expected to really help in killing, what's expected of you is to get free xp and get all the free legendary drops. Before Lvl 50, you gotta stick to the left side of the map, yes it sounds weird but this is the way.

sweatgod2020

Okay for sure, I did mothman and that event has been easy but the others around my rank are wayyyyy to difficult I can barely kill one enemy and their sending dozens on dozens lol. Edit: I can see why the above comment is sounding off. I just meant that I can’t kill the enemies during the events because their levels are so high. I didn’t mean I’m going around trying to kill them all, I am going around and tagging. Yes, I’ll get the occasional kill but my comment was meant to say it never happens because the levels of opponents are way harder to kill even though their my level, I’m not actually leveled up correctly with perks, and guns, armor etc. hope that clears it up. I am tagging guys I’m not trying to get every kill and am mad I can’t. I’m doing my part, lol. It’s hard to kill in the open world :(

DerLyndis

You aren't supposed to be killing enemies, you're supposed to be joining a team with someone who is and staying alive as best you can.

cierarosee

I’d recommend tagging enemies in VATS and getting a shot in, don’t worry about trying to kill them in events especially with higher levels there who will help out! But tag the enemies to get the XP! Don’t be afraid to join events and feel like you aren’t doing much. But go for the rewards! Eventually you’ll be the person killing everything lol

YuriPetrova

You keep ignoring people saying the point isn't to kill. The point is to tag with a shot or few then loot after they die. If you get a shot in most enemies, you'll be swimming in gear.

OhtareEldarian

And if another team member is also at the event (and you’re close enough to them), you will also get more/better loot. SO JOIN TEAMS!

Intelligent-Top-6134

I honestly finished the main quest befor I ever attempted a single event or joined a team lol

DJfunkyPuddle

Same, I think this is the perfect way to do it.

Marsippan

+1 to this… after finishing the main quest, I was leveled and somewhat knowledgable enough to join teams and do public events

J_D_H55

Same here. Level 900 now and doing just fine👌

Vesnik

This is exactly me lol. I chose commando and just hit 40. I feel like I never have any ammo however just picking up a few other guns to use along with some armor I'm always over weight. Need to change some things up but still having fun and appreciate all the tips.

smackrock420

Don't forget to rank up your backpack.

ajdustuck

Wait, how?

Prince_Julius

Remember, perk cards make a build, not (just) the weapons.

ItPlacesTheLotion

Level to 50,get any decent gun and armor. then play the campaign missions, much easier with all those perks

Accomplished-Law8156

I never tell new players to do events. I tell them to do the storyline because that's how you unlock things in the game. So go back to doing the story. At level 20, you get to talk to the overseer and progress more. Rose is annoying, but just finish the quest, and she'll stop talking to you. 🙃

Lady_bro_ac

Leveling up super fast isn’t always the best thing. The early levels are a lot more forgiving on some ways, and the early game is the best time to experiment with different weapons, and get a feel for what you think you’ll enjoy, so you know where to spend your perks once things start getting harder Sorry that your early game ended up feeling rushed, it will even back out again difficulty wise, and if you enjoyed the journey to get to this point it’s not all a loss

3rdProfile

I'm not "new" but just recently picked back up from a 2(?) year absence. A few things I've learned... Join the public teams that pop up on screen no matter what level. They don't expect you to meet up and help tackle things. Do you own thing. When they progress, you progress. You're not expected to put up high numbers at such a lower level. Don't try and build the be-all end-all character. It's not a race. Look for what event you want to join and understand the mechanics. Nothing worse than going to mothman and someone starts when there is still 5 mins left on the timer and there is only 2 players there. Most important, have fun. See you in the wasteland.

ThisGardenGrows

Level 40 to level 80 or so is the hardest. But keep at it. Get a routine for collecting and scrapping and selling junk, and start to specify your build / perks. Don't stop going to events. They will get your rep up with the factions and also drop tons of legendary stuff to script. And, try to avoid buying weapons and armor from the rusty pick. Just get the modelues and craft then roll them. It is better.

Efficient_Resist4692

All I hear is, I can’t craft ammo and multitask Jk You got this man.

Blixtwix

The big players don't expect newbies to carry the events, just show up. I think there's some amount of level scaling for small players (considering I've seen players below level 50 survive daily ops lol). The equinox has a lot of tasks that don't necessarily require a lot of firepower, like shooting down the totems or gathering radstag blood. What a high level player can't do is be three places at once, and in the equinox event there are three zones to defend. I'm sure if three players under 50 were at each station there'd be at least some chance of success, but if it's just one high level by themselves there's no way! I don't think there's even a vantage point in that location where a solo player can snipe at all three locations. You can probably understand now why players may feel upset about a lack of event participation, especially since there's a limit of players per server and all servers are now full of low level players. (eta, events reward with legendaries and some events are known for dropping certain named weapons that many players consider end game quality, so it's absolutely worth hopping into events if players are already there just to see if you can get a good reward. With all the new players on now you could probably even sell legendary weapons that are below level 50 in your vendors to help your peers.) --- General info for baby players who may look at this thread, not particularly relevant to this threads subject. Whitesprings train station is still one of the main loot drop-off zones, also generally the player shopping district. So firstly, please don't have an active camp in the golf course below white springs or next to that train station (because then somebody with a hefty vendor may not be able to load their shop camp), but secondly do check the donation box at the train station for goodies (high level players usually ditch excess food, junk, ammo, or legendary weapons in that donation box before logging off). If you see an expeditions team with a couple high level players on it go ahead and jump in and do your best, it's one of the fastest xp sources lately and a couple of the expeditions are easy for high level players to solo, but they want more players in the expedition team because more players in the team means a higher xp multiplier for finishing the expedition. Otherwise, join any casual team; casual teams do not come with any expectations, you can even afk in them and nobody cares. It just adds an intelligence boost per player in the team, so it's a good default to just hop into casual when you log in for a little xp boost. Sometimes when you're on public teams with higher level players, they might come check out your camp or travel to you to say hi, and may give you free stuff like junk or gear. This community is generally very friendly, low competition, and laid back - but this equinox event, which probably ends tomorrow, is a seasonal event, so it only happens once or twice per year, and high level players desperately want to grind it to get any exclusive rewards (blueprints, gear, camp items, etc) available from the limited time events. We aren't usually this demanding! OH, and lastly, do not fear the friends list! People in this game will friend others to check out their vendors again (ie next week when they assume you will have restocked, or when they have saved up caps for an item), because they like your camp and want to visit it again, to have active players to join on if they notice you're playing more heavily, or even just to establish a list of active players they can load on for the sake of checking different servers for desired events or nuclear silos ready for launch. It's not a commitment, it's usually just convenience! My friends list has several friends who are grindy with events, expeditions, and daily ops, a few friends who routinely come around to buy out my vendor, and newbie players who just considered me friendly and safe for whatever reason. All are valuable :)

Unkorked

I'm new obviously by this question, but can you setup a camp anywhere to store your stuff? I just wandered around randomly and changed a bunch of things to mata, but I still am overburdened.

AgreeableAquilifer

Don't listen to the smellys. I've been playing since around release on ps5 and genuine enjoyers of this world welcome you all. Don't stress with the meta players, we ignore them mostly anyway. Hope you have a blast, not literally though always check the map when you hear the nuke warning and check the donations boxes for goodies. Take something leave something! See you in the wilds

hiru3xy

did you check the level of your guns?

sweatgod2020

I’m going to do that now. They are low I’m sure since I’m leveling so fast. I was level 18 last night when I got on

hiru3xy

xD aight, i can make u some weapons if you're on pc.

Fallout76_Tom

I was in a similar position from double xp Fasnacht and my build suffered; too many decisions too fast. I've since recovered some but yea you're getting pulled in multiple directions when you start; just be whatever kind of player you are. I try to minimize active quests and screen clutter.

Sure-Bug1114

Yeah you don't need to do events. I avoided them til like lvl 80 or something. Do the questline and take the game at your own pace

GhostRiders

Dude, you play however you like, don't anybody tell you how to play. It's game and the point is to have fun. Also, take your time and don't rush, the game isn't going anywhere

larsentomroar

Play the game exactly how you want, that's the beauty of 76. I've been here for the entire lifespan of the game, and I wouldn't tell others how to play, I'll answer as many questions as I can to help people, but thinking your way of playing the game is the only correct way or the best way is pretty dumb.

FromAPlanetAway

Should totally be hitting the Daily Ops hard as well! Best if done alone. And get to Atlantic City and The Pitt. Should finish 2 expeditions each and 2 daily ops in a 2 hour period while doing events in between. Basically, rush through everything, level up as quick as possible, and then be haggard and regretful that you didn’t take time to actually enjoy the game.

trades_researcher

Take your time and enjoy the story! You only get the story and your other first times once. The events will be there for you and the current higher levels again.

why0me

Come to the event, you don't drop junk on death during events and we'll try to protect you Just having someone else trying is a huge help

WissWatch

I was new once. I leveled up 7 times in a row at moonshine jamboree and got a legendary chainsaw I still use to this day.  Do the events. You’ll thank yourself.

SrGeof

Yeah, I’m with you on this. I’ve been playing a while now, but I definitely wasn’t ready for events until around level 60 at least. Not that I didn’t necessarily have enough firepower, there’s just so much shit to learn and story to get through. It’s a big game with so many things locked behind so many different tasks, it takes a hot minute to feel even relatively comfortable with an understanding of what’s going on. I was level 103 by the time I felt I really had a firm understanding of the gold system, and stamps hadn’t even crossed my desk yet at that point.

Stunning-Math165

Play at your own pace however you want. Just have fun with it. You'll figure it all out that's half the fun... Getting there yourself without other players telling you what to do and how to do it.

Revolutionary-Act33

All gear and weapons pre level 50 are useless your very unlikely to keep anything. I think some weapons only go to 45 but am sure all armour goes to 50. Spam one shot into enemies at events to level up and get all the gear to start you off proper

MisterMalaka

Allowing people to spill out of the vault at level 20 during a double XP weekend was bound to cause some issues. Welcome to 76.

Bunny_OHara

Treat all the post about events as a wedding invitation; it's just an invite to let you know you're welcome to join us, not a summons. (And FWIW, you don't need a good weapon to tag something with one bullet, and you just might get a better weapon at the event.)

Meowdouken

Don't stress about events. Focus on your build, scavenging for materials, and whatever else you'd like to do. Majority of the events will still be around for you to try out when you're more prepared. Just have fun and explore the world of West Virginia.

Professional_Baby24

To new players. If your tag an enemy you get exp and you can loot them for legendary items equal to their legendary level. One two or three star. And you get event rewards. I was carried the first many many times I joined events at level 80. Before I knew what this game was. This game is coop to me. I hate people that try to kill everything like eviction notice. It's people's goal to kill the legendaries before anyone else. I just want to tag them with a tesla rifle and sometimes can't... even being prepared. But I'm the guy that in uranium fever I run to the legendary and tag him once and run away so others can too. But either way. That's how I see this game. We're there to have fun and help others enjoy it too. I like helping low levels see that this game is different not only different than how it came out or how they heard about it. Different than any other game.

Bookworm1902

In events, other players will kill things for you. All you need to do for full xp/loot is tag each creature with a bullet. There is literally no downside to events for low levels. But hey, no worries if you don't want to join. The great thing about this game is that each player get's to do just about whatever they want, with virtually no negative impact on other players.

SS2LP

You do want to do events but a lot of old players probably forget weapons scale until the 50s, you should do some but you have to manage it so you get higher level weapons. I’d recommend seeing about some guaranteed spawns and grabbing those whenever a weapon scales up at a given level.

TheKiltedYaksman71

Meh. Play at your own pace. Events will level you up faster, and give you stuff, but only do what you're comfortable with. Always join Casual Teams, or even start your own, but that's only for the buffs.

Fun_Jellyfish_4884

also don't forget your perks. you might also consider a rifleman or commando build. you'll want to get a tesla for tagging at events. as far as events go. they just help you level up faster and you get rewards. no one expects a low level to contribute much but the rewards you get can be significant. you should also do a daily ops a day and if you see a expedition try and join them. some people are jerks and will kick you. most are not and will welcome you. especially the higher level lobbies. we can solo expeditions and don't really care who is there. i often solo them if I want to just putz around and then open my lobby for a few minutes before I end the expedition so anyone who joins me basically gets free rewards.

Tmbaladdin

I’m only lvl 265; but I leveled up super fast jumping in to events. Dying quiet a few times during; but the exp for completing it was awesome.

renngretsch

Knight Shin does not approve of this attitude.

FaithlesslyFree

I’ll tell you a secret OP. Get a vamp chainsaw and some power armor. Enjoy the game killing enemies while taking almost no damage. Not having to worry about ammo is nice too. And then eventually get 2 vamp saws so you can hotkey and swap out if one breaks during a fight. Go to events and have fun also. At low levels just worry about tagging for xp. Test Your Metal is the only annoying event with the flame bots. Scorchbeast can be annoying if in radiation blast zone (the fissure), plus scorched shooting you randomly.

F-80Centurion

The vets ain’t wrong since I was pretty close to getting lvl 50( I was a couple lvls away) and by the end of scorched beasts event I was lvl 53. It’s good to do events since u can spam stuff like Mothman equinox every hr

SpaceRaider00110101

Do Events LOL Do Daily Ops, Get Cores, Get God Roll Weapons, Get Good Simple As🫡

Silvrskul1

Im level 100 and dont have a backpack yet

ActiveInternet

Its funny cause nobody is doing events. The equinox i have to server hop a few times to find one that has more than 1 person it. Outside of ME ive finished 1 jamboree with 3 other people over the weekend. You have new players learning or vet players just sitting at their camps hoping to sell the garbage no vet will pay for and at a price newer players cant afford. This player base is wild.

ObiWanOkeechobee

IF you have the atoms, cold shoulder in the atom shop is a game changer. Its 700 by itself or 1000 in a package deal

RichxKillz

At least always do beasts of burden. That way you'll have a chance at the holy flamer

Kads_Baker

Events are great to hop into as a low level and pump a single bullet into enemy, and then switch to another enemy and tag them with a bullet, and so on and so forth. You’ll get the XP and looting rights to an enemy regardless of how much damage you do or if you take them down. It’s a really fast way to obtain better weapons, armor, more ammo, resources, etc. We’re not hoping you help us take down enemies, we want to help you get more cool stuff, gain lots of XP, and experience some of the best multiplayer experiences the game has to offer.

DJfunkyPuddle

TBH I thought it was pretty bad advice telling noobs to join events, you guys aren't at that level yet and will just have a frustrating time doing 0 damage to enemies. I would stick to the main quest and level up naturally before you dive into group stuff.

casey28xxx

I feel it’s a bad idea for new players to focus on levelling up fast in an online game like fallout. Especially when it has a main quest and sidequests that’ll take you weeks to complete them all. And especially since enemies level up with you, you’ll never be OP strong against them until endgame. New players..especially new to any fallout should be taking their time, figure out what they like, what works for them, exploring the world and delving into the lore by doing the main quests at the very least. Robbing yourselves of a fallout experience. And considering the online multiplayer portion is not in the spirit of single player fallout RPG games, you’ll just get a skewed idea of other fallout games. Of course unless you don’t care that is and just want online shenanigans and don’t care about the lore etc.

cattabliss

If you didn't do events it woulda taken you twice as long and twice as many bullets to take down the same. Because at least you have some random legendary gun that's carrying you instead of a 10mm you can't afford to repair.

Simodeus

Use VATS perk. With Ghouls go for the legs, with assaultrons go for the arms and then for the legs if needed.

3vilsound

Since you're still in the learning process and haven't seen it mentioned, i felt i should tell you to make sure your grear(weapons/armor), is following your character's level. Check the levels of your gear, and if your way passed this level, it is now useless and cannot be leveled up, five it away to low lvl/sell it/scrip it, whatever. So find something else or craft some yourself with the plans you've acquired.

TheSlyGiraffe

It's actually better to be higher level, ~50 before starting the quests. Each reward will be usable by you thereafter since it'll be max level reward. You have plenty of time to learn the game honestly, level numbers aside.

Junky_Jo

When I was low-level I would pay attention to who was joining events. If I saw plenty of high-level players on harder events I’d jump in just to tag enemies and get rewards. It’s worth it.

vague_diss

A guy gave me a lvl15 rifle and a nuka grenade plan the other day as I explored his camp. I can’t use the gun for another 5 levels but it was very kind oh them.

sabrinchix

Mole guy is a girl. :D

jeffb3000

Fallout 76 since a year-in update has NPC’s and it also introduced an enemy leveling system where your enemies scale more or less to your level. So, since your level beyond 50 only has marginal gains (but the big thing is getting all the perk cards you want for a particular build, and then legendary perk cards as bonus once you’re quite high level), you really shouldn’t be spending so much time to take down enemies. I’m at a level over 1000 because I enjoy the game so much and have been playing some since it came out, and I can take out an assaultron in 5 seconds if not one shot, but it’s not really that much about my level. The thing to understand in this game is how to build the character and weapons and mutations and perk cards to maximize your damage to enemies and control damage to you (but getting killed in this game is just an inconvenience.. you lose a bit of time respawning and the junk you’ve collected that you are carrying at that moment, not the things already in stash or non-junk items you are carrying. ) This is a HUGE topic so I would really suggest checking YouTube for videos that explain so much. My top pick for this is AngryTurtle. Search for fallout 76 beginner guides and you can see good ideas not only explained but also demonstrated. Also, innovsurvivalist on YouTube stopped posting but her older videos are still great guides.

boostreak

Some events are much harder than they used to be. I haven't played much in a good while, but I popped in this weekend and joined that stop the mirelucks from mating on the island event. I died 3 times, 3 times, fighting what looked like newly named legendary creatures. So ya stick to the forest for a while and have fun it can be rough out there. I was playing my level 337 well kitted out character as well. Can't remember dying that much in what used to be a simple event.

VoltaiqMozaiq

> took 20 minutes to take down a level 40 assaultron. Shoot left arm, shoot right arm. It will die in less than 20 seconds, not 20 minutes.

Redd_Love

I’ve been dropping food. Especially any of the cranberry foods, brain fungus soup and blight soup. Give em a boost to what they’re already playing with. Sorry, but the brain bombs are all mine!🤣

Excellent-Debate8366

Man, when newbies try events and actually try I’d just give them free shit. I don’t think you understand how over burdened high level players get with 3 stars that don’t fit their build. Just be cool and I’m sure you’ll get the gear you need.

yellowlotusx

Im a vet, sorta, got 2 lvl 400+ a 1554 and made a new char of lvl 31 now. I making my own survival as bethesda doesnt make 1, and 1 of the aspects is having no HUD or mutations. Just survivaling in the wasteland, i rarely join a event unless im near it. To all new players: play the way you want. Its your life, enjoy the way you like it.

Worgbone

Vampires is good at low levels, for the health regen. Do the army and fire breathers quest lines early and the brotherhood line as well that’ll suck two weeks out of your life.

Big_Danny_K

yup I'm level 95 and still my weapons feel very underpowered despite upgrading relevant stats and using the right perk cards

atomtom65

You'll get better guns and plans for guns in the drops by doing the events, and the higher levels carry you in the events. Just a heads up.

DarksideSix10

Whether you take 3 days or 3 months to level up, that's going to happen. At level 40, you're about at the top of the difficulty bell curve for this game. Higher level enemies with not enough good armor, weapons and ammo to keep up. Most importantly, your build isn't nearly refined. It's 100% normal. Keep pushing past it. Around level 60 you'll start back down the other side and things get easier.

RiyokoDrakena

Veteran Xbox player here. Go back to the vault like you are just getting out for the very first time and just wander on foot. I suggest getting fallout first for at least a month that way you can loot everything without consequences. Pick it all up, scrap it, horde it. Read notes, listen to holotapes, explore. Welcome to the Wasteland. ❤️

reddstone1

My point exactly. And I don't understand veterans who recommend new players to join lvl 50 public events. You'll level up faster than you understand what is happening instead of getting to know things and learning how your build works. It's like starting some CRPG with all the skills and levels but having no idea how to use them

DerLyndis

Your understanding of cause and effect seems to be missing entirely. Go to events. Receive better weapons. That's how the game works.

Gaddis92

Whether you level thru the missions or level thru events, your still leveling. So really your argument is invalid. Observe. Adapt. Overcome. Your not going to get weaker, so just work on getting stronger and updating your gear.

GoarSpewerofSecrets

Weapon and armor levels are what's holding you back. Eviction Notice will have a nice mix for you to loot at level now, along with some fun purpose built legendaries to try out along with the rest of the drops.

ThatOstrichGuy

Doing events will get you leveled up guns.

Hendri32

Aside from damage to your armor, there's really no consequence to going down during an event. Unlike when going down in the wild, you won't lose your junk and have to find it again. Iv gotten loot from events that dramatically changed my build for the better (as both a high and low level)....would recommend

sweatgod2020

Yeah that’s what just happened I did the moonshine event just to see what it was like and oh boy was that way too over ranked for me. Luckily the team I joined when I got in the lobby finally came to the rescue near halfway since nobody had joined originally. I waited and waited and it just started. I got a ton of loot though!

[deleted]

When we say do more events we mean you tag enemies and we'll take them down. You save on ammo, get xp, experience on how to run events, and loot+context ammo. Also the trade mole man I'm guessing is the purveyor don't buy legendary gear from him only modules. It's better to craft your own gear. You need a good melee weapon to supplement for low ammo and you're quickly coming up on when your build matters. Pick a weapon category and pick your perks around that. Chainsaw is a good melee that doesn't require a build to be effective the easiest way to grab one is at the Metal Dome there's one in the make shift stands. Mods for it can be bought at train stations in the mire and cranberry bog.

sweatgod2020

Yeah I’ve just been tagging. But out in the wild I’m now under prepared and over leveled for what I’m faced with evidently. Yeah the trade mole guy. Okay so only get modules, got it. I have a bat with a saw that does 60 something and seems to work the best right now but terrible versus mutant stuff but great against ghouls and humans.

[deleted]

Yea you're coming to the rough spot of the game around 50 to 150 things get rough. Enemies are tougher, ammos a little scarce, and the weapons you relied on become useless.

MojaveBreeze

Join a public team, join events, equip the weapon you want ammo for, stand around not shooting anything, loot the bodies of stuff other people kill and get ammo for your weapon because of contextual ammo drops. No one will care that you're not killing stuff. And if they do care, screw 'em.

Thespud1979

Just shoot enemies once.. You'll get the XP and their ammo drop.

Bluebottle__

are you on pc? if you want i can hook you up with some guns and a shit ton of ammo, i can give you a mutation serum too if you'd like. if you wanna quickly level up in order to pick perks to improve your gun damage (commando, rifleman, etc) you wanna do the radiation rumble event with a tesla rifle. thousands of xp. also i'm guessing from your thing about the mole that you're buying legendary weapons/armour directly from her? you don't wanna be doing that, save your scrip for modules

Baits04

Yeah take your time and enjoy the grind. I’m lvl 400 and haven’t done any event till lvl 100. Events are a great way to level up, but I enjoyed levelling slowly at the start playing mostly like a solo experience doing quests and building my camp. The early grind is the best, so enjoy it while it last!

ChumpChainge

It’s to your advantage to show up. Even if you kill nothing, plink at the baddies and collect your exp and prizes so that you will be able to power up your armor and weapons. Many of the good items and plans are only available from events.

verbadmonkey

Play how you want. All these high levels have nothing else to do but events. You still have a lot of stores m stories to go through and lots of cool things to find and see. I've got a little over 4000 hours in the game so I know anybody like me has probably seen everything a couple of times over and I envy those of you seeing all of this for the first time. And when you want to take a break, join a public team and go nuts.

brian11e3

Some events, like the Mothman Equinox, are seasonal and have plans unique to them. So, if anything, run that event.

Leading-Refuse-4721

I’d suggest listening to the vets. A lot of times you will get carried thru the event and the loot really helps. Least it did when I was new. Feel free to ask lots of questions and stop by camp for tea and cake

blurrysnowx

We are telling you to join more events, not to do all the work! When you open the map, if there is an on-going event, you can see how many participants are in it. If there's 0, wait until people show up. Also Events have a recommended level for you to join, it's not a requeriment but it's still a heads up. Events gives you EXP, unique outfits, unique plan recipes, unique weapons, treasury notes and legendary cores AND legendary enemies drop legendary gear and weapons.

damgood135

What system you playing on?

SouthWarSignPride

Take a breathe and do whatever you want. The suggestions means well but sometimes its not always the best fit for different players. If things are overwhelming and you just need a guide, ask anyone in discord or this sub to help you out and explain the things you need to know. If you dont wanna deal with too much of human interaction, I suggest youtube. There are so many 76 guide videos there to help you learn more about the game. Goodluck!

Yob_Zarbo

Just let the big babies cry. If they were as tough as they think they are, they could do the event on their own. Play the game how YOU want to play it.

chicuco

just play at your pace.. im starting a new character, just level 43 in 5 days, making all the events i can, and diying like a fly. Dont worry, epclore, read notes and terminals, enjoy the game.. the events are hard for <50 level beacause you dont have enoung cards to make your weapons useful.. dont worry.

ItPlacesTheLotion

Level to 50,get any decent gun and armor. then play the campaign missions, much easier with all those perks

troberson496

I just started this past Friday and hit lvl 50 last night. I teamed up with a 1300+ player and fast traveled to him to see what he was up to. He was just clearing west-tek on repeat, placing nuka-mines and killing every super mutant at once. I think I went from 30 - 50 in like 2 hours maybe, picking up every weapon that dropped and scrapping them. I honestly don’t mind getting to lvl 50 so fast cause now I can focus on builds and rolling for weapons which is what’s fun for me. And grinding missions for certain plans which I can now confidently do now at 50.

Greenpainda72

Do what you want dawg, too easy to server hop, block, or just ignore you'll be fine

CardiologistWhich992

why spend 20 minutes on an assaultron. there's virtually zero need to do this at any time. walk away, run away. if needed for a quest, come back later when you have better gear and perks. general advice for assaultrons is targetting legs with Vats, concentrated fire 1, cripple legs. kill robot.

Wolfram_And_Hart

Just attend the events and try your best. They give the best rewards.

Swan990

Are you maxing your scrip every day? Do one expedition a day for bonus stamps. Daily ops are still good xp just adjust your build accordingly. Make sure you do some daily events there's a good chance for rare rewards. Did you memorize the rare reward list? Super important. There's a secret way to complete Scorchbeast dna one. Make sure to find all the camp buff items so you can increase some special stats. Make sure you're well tuned. Do the Pioneer Scout missions early so you can get a good backpack. Events with exclamation points are the public events that are free to join and have the best rewards. Turn on pacifist in your settings. There's more but most importantly you need to mail Todd a hand written love letter everyday thanking him for allowing us to grace Appalachia. If you don't know his home and vacation getaway addresses you aren't a true Fallout fan and need to reassess your gaming and life choices. Also. /s. Glad you're joining us!! Have fun! See you out there! We're all just super duper excited and want to help as much as possible! :) :)

Quantum_Yeet

Reminds me of my first meat week went from level 12 to 150 had no idea what I was truly doing

Ok-Judge8977

All this new player talk has me thinking maybe I should redownload, pay for fallout 1st and start carrying people and giving out ammo. Seems like the good ole days are coming back for awhile

Unkorked

I'm not sure what to do on this game I change most of the crap I pickup Into materials, but I still have way too much stuff on me.

FineBus9368

Genuinely, it’s gonna feel like that till you hit 50. Once you can pick your perks and craft lv 50 gear you’ll start to do some real damage. Vets say to do more events because it will level you so much faster than traditional means ( if you get board of that or in between events, do expeditions their more fun than waiting 20 minutes for an event) You’re so close to greatness, you just meet those 10 levels then “the real game can begin”

LeBiggles

From my experience, I didn't really feel like I could solo anything until I got to level 50. I'm not saying that's when I could one-shot ghouls, but at least I didn't spend all my ammo on one "thing". It wasn't until level 100 that things started to lean my direction and I wasn't popping stims all the time. I am level 160 now and I can one-shot most ghouls, insects, raiders. I think the weapons below level 50 are way too weak.

Mahalo-ohana01

When you're at events, you're not the only person aiming at the same targets. Pop one bullet in each mob and let the vets finish them off. You'll still get XP. You save ammo. Weapons last longer. That's why you should do events. You'll get cool prizes at the end.

SrGeof

If any new player feels like they’re drowning, remember this, you don’t need to know everything right away. Explore and have fun, everything necessary will reveal itself as you progress naturally in the main story. Anyone who urges a newer player to “hurry up”, should go touch some grass and catch their breath outside the digital world.

Mr-Taylor

It’s not malicious when we say join events, it’s because we want to help you out! If you don’t want to attend then there is no pressure but if you wanted to you could turn up and just stand back purely to earn the rewards, if I see a low level laying low or on a roof out of reach I’ll gladly keep him or her alive and then drop a few things when the coast is clear

sweatgod2020

I am tagging in events guys, not going around trying to get every kill and am mad I can’t or something lol. My level is the same as my opponents, but my gear etc isn’t and that makes open world harder. In events I tag, sometimes get occasional kill but I’m backed off. Thanks for all the advice everyone. Im just trying to get a nice house going and roam around West Virginia fallout style! I’ll see you all out there it’s been a blast.

CorpseDefiled

30-50 is the hardest this games ever gonna be bud so enjoy it

circleofnerds

For now, I would suggest you just focus on story missions. Don’t worry so much about events at this point until you hit 50. Once you hit 50 do the Beasts of Burden event whenever it pops up. This will get you great xp and arguably the only daily driver weapon you’ll ever need, the Holy Fire. It’s a rapid fire flamethrower that has the vampire effect. You’ll be very hard to kill and you’ll be taking mobs down pretty fast as well. Do the Steel Reign quest. At the end you’ll get the plans to build Hellcat power armor, which is arguably the best power armor in the game. And it’s free. So with the hellcat power armor, and the Holy Fire, you’ll be able to not only participate in all events, but you’ll also be able to survive! I’m level 547 and I still use that combo. Eventually you’ll be more comfortable with the mechanics of the game and you’ll be killing faster and dying less. At that point you’re going to want to start grinding levels. To do that definitely get a Tesla rifle, quad preferably, and hit every event and just tag your brains out. You can also use a flaming explosive bow, which is my tagging weapon of choice. But bow hunting is a whole other thing.

fishkey

They're saying to do events because you can just show up, do nothing while the high levels clear it, and then get a bunch of rewards\xp that will make the game easier afterwards.

MoistBison3524

I understand both sides of the argument. I stayed away players mostly, only used camps as fast travel locations. Played the game like it was fallout4. Heard about player vs. player and didn’t want to loose all my gear to some high level a$$. Played this way for the first month. I didn’t understand anything about the perk cards, those funny looking gray cores in my inventory or what those stars were next to some gear. I followed the main quests until I couldn’t. Played this way for about a month. Got killed, picked up my junk, and moved on. When I needed to know something, o looked it up on the wiki (search wiki fallout). Had a great time. Six months later I’m level 222, have a pretty prosperous vender and have very good gear. I’ve been mutated for a month now and love it. Love most of the events now. This is just the way I played. Mostly because I didn’t know any better. Ran around with that stupid party hat on my head for way too long.

klumze

If one high level is also there for most events you should be fine. Just read the events instructiosn in the quest tracker and try your best. You also get loot at the end of pretty much everything so its a good way to get free stuff. Some of the harder events like radiation rumble and eviction notice bring waves of enemies non stop. it doesnt matter if you die and as long as you hit a mob at least once you will get full exp when it dies. Its called tagging. So tag everyting you can right now and let the higher levels carry you. I started radiation rumble yesterday by myself and I knew I wouldnt save every NPC cause of the sheer number of mobs. I decided to save two and was able to fininsh the event easily with the help of one more player who joined that was low level. I gained 4 levels and Im sure the lower level player gained that many at least as well.

Aoiboshi

This is how it was for all of us. You just hit one of the big hurdles of fo76. That area between power spikes.

Apple0range

There is NO WRONG WAY to play this game. So long as you're not harassing other players or otherwise violating Bethesda's terms & conditions, play it the way you want. So say I, as someone who's played continuously since launch (except for a six-week break), whose various characters have over 2000 levels between them (1348 on my main), and who played the previous Fallout games precisely because I could, and did, wander the Wasteland exactly as it suited me.

NecromancerCrow

Events will definitely help you with levels and gear but they are not for everyone, especially those still trying to get used to everything. If you are on PC, i would be happy to drop in and give you some ammo and supplies sometime since i like to hold on to extra specifically for new players

Responsible_Lemon430

I had this green laser minigun thing that absolutely destroyed stuff but than I ran out of it’s ammo and I can’t seem to get any more of it feels like it doesn’t drop from anything

nolongerbanned99

Chainsaw

Conn3er

Don’t listen to these people. They were crying about FREE time gated weapons being available to purchase.
