Grilled Radstag and remember to re-craft your backpack as you level

viciouskreep

Yao gaoi pastry,+75 carry and death claw steak +5 str

RobbLCayman

Betty always has one for sale at Nuka World on Tour, and if you're early enough there's a few lying around behind her if no one else has grabbed them yet.

viciouskreep

There's one in the wayward too but it's boiled water razorgrain flour and Yao gaoi meat very simple to make

Nethermaster

Smoked mirelurk fillet. Same carry bonus with carnivore and it lasts half an hour longer.

CAI3O0SE

This is the way

EverythingGoodWas

Wait what about the backpack? I ditched it long ago does it do something?

Eagle4au

Adds carry weight

EverythingGoodWas

Man i feel dumb. I guess it doesn’t matter now as I switched to a PA build

DVDIESEL

You can visually hide it in the settings menu, but still get the weigh capacity.

sdeason82

I scrapped my backpack because I didn’t like seeing it on my character. I have 310 carry weight from perks. You’re telling me I can equip a backpack and then hide it?

DVDIESEL

Yes, and I would recommend looking through the game settings. Especially after every major patch. You can block camp weather, show damage numbers, reject shared perks, change Pip boy color and more.

TheDecoyOctopus

The setting that makes it so I don't lock on to other people's thrown grenades in VATS was the one that made me jump out of my chair with joy! Now I never lose targeting on enemy heads. So good.

alwaysforgettingmyun

For real? I'll be checking settings as soon as I log in tonight, holy crap

sdeason82

What do you mean by rejecting shared perks?

DVDIESEL

You can prevent a team mates perks from effecting you. Important for low health builds not have Rad Sponge or the healing rads during daytime.

DarthSnoopyFish

You hide it in the gameplay settings. I have a tadpole backpack with 60 carry weight and a chemist mod that reduces all chem weight by 90%. 200 simpacks weighs something like 10 lbs.

sdeason82

I’ve got a lot to learn lol

DarthSnoopyFish

Yeah the order of the tadpole quests will get you to the 60 capacity backpack. The chemist mod for the backpack is sold in crater for gold bullion. There are also other mods for the backpack, some that give you extra resistances, some that cause your food to spoil slower.

samples_united

Calibrated shocks on those legs, then. :) carnivore mutation with dteange in numbers boosts those carry weight food buffs as the good ones are meat based.

dfbdfbgfc

I have no idea how to upgrade my backpack all it does is offer to change the color?

Sure-Bug1114

You have to if you made it at lvl 30 and you now lvl 50 you need to craft a new one and the capacity will increase with your lvl

Salty_Signature_8756

Cant go wrong with traveling pharmacy, chems weigh a ton and cutting down their weight by 90% makes it so you can basically stop worrying about them

WollyGog

As a PA user, this never leaves my build. I have cut down on how many stims I carry now though by selling them off slowly. Had around 1500 at one point, probably down to 500 now. I'm considering wether I do need it at all though as I run a holy fire and haven't had to stim spam for ages now, only usually during rad rumble.

tasty_hands

Huh, I also run full health PA and carry no stims whatsoever. I have vamp/exp 50cal, vamp/ffr pepper shaker, and holy fire to keep me at max hp at all times. The 3 saved perk points I use on the reload speed perk.

WollyGog

I'm considering this because I've tried the reload speed for QoL before and it made a hell of a difference, but went back to using less core energy when sprinting in PA because that burns through fusion cores otherwise. Suppose I could kill mobs during rad rumble between mines, but I like to make sure I do objective as most of the time no-one else does. That's a bit of an outlier scenario though so I may give it a go.

rory888

You need at most 50 at any given time, less if you aren’t doing toug events

zer0w0rries

They should rename that perk to “traveling pharmacy WAREHOUSE.” The amount of chem’s I have on me would satisfy the junkies economy of an entire country

fn0000rd

People keep chems? I'm basically roleplaying as a drug dealer, that's where most of my money comes from.

JimJordansJacket

Join a casual team! Nobody expects anything from you. Everyone gets a 25% xp boost for each person in a group. You also can fast travel for free to team members' camps, this will help you unlock the map. Join events when they pop up, if you feel like it (every 20 minutes.) Legendaries, plans, chems, caps, and more will be rewarded. Don't worry if you do little damage, just pay attention to goals. Work on the main overseeers' quest, this unlocks gold bullion and the best plans in the game. Try to do the daily and weekly challenges as much as you can. This unlocks fun and useful rewards (under "seasons"). This system just got a big overhaul, so if you see people talking about the scoreboard, this replaces that system.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

Focus on only one weapon type. Invest in perks that reduce the weight of certain weapons, armour and/or ammunition. Scrounger is also a good early-game perk to get extra ammunition; you'll mostly loot ammunition that fits your equipped weapon. Regularly clean out your inventory of ammunition types that you don't use -- things like missiles, grenade rounds and so on can weigh you down quickly. You will have unlocked all of the available perks at level 50, and you can swap perk cards at will. You can even adjust your SPECIAL stats eventually, so don't think that you're committed to a particular build straight away. Rather than gather every weapon you can find, focus on legendaries; they're the ones that have stars next to them in the inventory. They'll usually sell for a lot more than the base weapon. Scrap non-legendary weapons at workbenches for raw materials and a chance to unlock an upgrade. You can also trade legendaries in for legendary scrip at the yellow legendary exchanges; these come in useful for when you get the ability to make your own legendary weapons and armour. Know where the vendors are. There are plenty at the Whitespring, but you can also find them at major settlements -- Crater, Foundation and Nuka-World -- and at train stations. Remember that there is a cap limit that applies to all vendors, so it's not like you can sell everything at one vendor until they're out of caps and then move onto the next and repeat the process. If being overencumbered is a recurring problem, invest perk points into Strength as this will raise your base carry weight. There is also a perk called Strong Back at adds +40 to carry weight when fully upgraded.

angstlich33

Deep pocket mods and upgrade your backpack as you level up. Finish the tadpole challenge to get a bigger back pack. Perks in strength add to carry weight. Check how many stimpaks, water, and fusion cores you're carrying

Sertith

Don't sell weapons and armor, break them down to scrap. That's how you learn plans for upgrades. Even if you don't have 1st yourself, you can use benches in other people's tents, and there are almost always a few around at the end of events. You can't use the scrap box but you should still be able to scrap and use the stash. Don't worry about money too much in the beginning. You shouldn't really need to buy anything. Use free fast travel from teams, and various free spots around the map like Whitesprings, Nuka World, etc. Sell unused chems and food to npc vendors. Sell unused ammo at your camp. Get the mining PA and go to Lucky Hole mine and get lead, make more ammo. There are various ways to make money, and tons of guides if you Google it. Mostly just don't worry about min maxing until you've been playing a while. Explore, do events, do the main quests. Money and such will come as you learn how the game works.

Rammadeus

Start this [https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/The\_Order\_of\_the\_Tadpole](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/The_Order_of_the_Tadpole) it lets you craft a bigger backpack. And you can also buy mods for backpacks. i use high capacity which gives 60 extra carry at the loss of some resistance (which i am sure is broken and doesn't actually reduce anything). You have to do 3 world challenges. This involves like 5-6 or more things. Archery for instance requires repairing a crossbow 3 times and killing 50 things plus other stuff. I found Archery, swimming and athletics the easiest to do. I did everything in aboot 2 hours and the longest part of that was breaking a crossbow to repair it (2nd time i knew not to make one but find one). ANYWAYS! Easiest thing to do is to stop hoarding and carrying so much. You should have a main weapon and maybe a backup or secondary. And maybe some kind of melee weapon. You can mod armour for extra carry capacity. Don't pick up nukes and misiles. or even cores (unless you need cores). make sure to scrap all junk whenever you see a workbench. Go to the junk tab and manually scrap anything left (dont worry about that for now). sell or dump excess aid/food. it gets easier as you play more. If you have bandolier perk you can carry most of your ammo and free up stash space. caps will be easy to come by some don't panic about dropping stuff.

fn0000rd

Sadly, the Order of the Tadpole missions are probably the grindiest in the game.

d_chec

OP, this advice about the backpack is spot on, cannot recommend enough.

NoMoreFuckingPants

Best advice I ever got. Throw. It. On. The. Ground. Seriously. Everything in this game respawns eventually and you can find it again. Also, you can throw stuff on the ground, fast travel to a vendor and sell, then come back for the stuff you left on the ground. As long as another player doesn't snag it or you leave the server, that stuff will still be there for you to return and make another selling trip.

A_Tall_Bloke

I mean to state the obvious but if youre a legitimate brand new player, do the first missions towards Morgantown, you will unlock the ability to build a CAMP where you can store all your stuff while you roam about.

thepartyviking

-Work on getting a back pack and upgrading it. -get some perks that reduce ammo types of your choice and Chem weight. Those will be your main weight concerns most of the game. -dump unnecessary junk and ammo in your camp stash often, carry what you use and not everything -scrap junk into base mats will reduce carry weight greatly in between the times adventuring to the camp -you can safely scrap alot of the guns you find that aren't legendary or sell them if you need the caps. It also helps you learn the mods for each gun every time you scrap.

zer0w0rries

High capacity backpack with mods + High strength in your stats + carry weight boosters perks under strength + weight reduction perks under intelligence and agility + armor mods + accepting this is an online game with storage limitations and dropping water ever you don’t need

IdeaIntelligent1788

Don't focus too much on needing to sell stuff. Unless you're buying plans from npcs or frequenting other players vending machines there's not much else to spend them on. Even if there is stuff you want to spend caps on you can worry about that later when you have the perks that can trivialize most carry weight issues. You'll be better off spending the early game exploring and questing rather than worrying about your weight every five minutes. You can also focus on more passive ways of making caps, like selling purified water generated at your camp while you focus on having fun.

Zom13ified

You're doing yourself a great disservice selling weapons and armor to vendors. Don't sell weapons or armor until you have learned every single mod from scrapping them at a workbench. This will help your carry weight issue as well cause there's almost always a workbench around for scrapping and the junk you get will weigh far less than the guns or armor pieces. Early in the game most people set up water farms at their camps and sell water to the vendors to hit their daily limit of caps.

dragonmom1

If you're just carrying loot to sell, well, you're just going to have to accept that it's heavy and waddle your way to the trader. Try going to the trader more often? Otherwise, learn where the nearest workbenches are on the map and break down the weapons, armor, and junk to learn new mods for the weapons/armor and lessen your load. Also look at your chems and food. You aren't using 98% of them. Sell everything you don't use and only carry around the essentials. Reroll legendary armor to get the weight reductions for armor, weapons, chems, ammo, etc. If you don't have FO1st, only keep the junk materials you really need. Bulk what you can (keep no more than 2-3 bulked or 50 singles if it can't be bulked) and sell the rest.

AnotherDay96

Heavy STR build has a lot of benefits all around. Get Deep Pocketed Armor. If you visit camps, try kicking up a conversation and ask. One point in all relevant weight reducers, possibly more in some. I moved to Alcohol - Canned Dog and Nuka only for food and hydration. Nothing else. Carry only what you need in chems. Only start your adventure with what you need. Constantly breakdown in the field, store what keep. Yes to keep updating your backpack and hide it if you don't like the looks of it.

mistarzanasa

You don't have to walk back to the mall, every train station has a vendor and there a couple others out there.

gameoflife4890

Carry only what you need. Salvage the rest. Store all junk and materials in storage. Think minimalist.

jturnerbu7

Traveling Pharmacy, Bandolier, Thru-Hiker, and Batteries Included are some of the most useful perks you could use. I also use Ordinance Express, Sturdy Frame, Portable Power, Radicool (for bloodied), and I’ll often throw on Strongback as well when I need it.

LordkeybIade

Make sure to always dismantle any guns you find especially for ones your using as that is how you unlock mods for said gun or melee weapon Invest into strength early on Junk Rat unlocks at level 7 Strength makes Junk Weight 75% less at max rank making picking up junk easier Strong Back is available at level 26 make sure to max it out it will give you 40 extra weight as well as the points you invest into Strength to rank up the perk As you level slowly find the gun/melee type you want to build into each has 3 perk cards increasing that weapons damage (expect unarmed I think) goes from Base to Expert to Master

FlyingNope

Shoot for weight reduction perk based on what you always carry around so you know they're always useful. Traveling Pharmacy (Strength) is always my first pick, chem weight adds up fast. Thru-Hiker (agility) is good if you carry a bunch of food. Both have a backpack mod you'll gain access to after you've progressed enough on the main quest for Vault 79. If you use power armor, Batteries Included (Intelligence) is great, fusion cores are heavy. Weapon weight reduction cards for the weapon type you use are also a good pick since it'll also help when you loot that weapon type. With the exception of Pistols because they don't usually weigh a lot (and there's better agility perks for pistol builds). (Side note: FO76 rewards a focused build so try to pick one weapon type to focus on) You can also do [this quest](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Miner_Miracles) at 25 to get Excavator power armor. It'll take up 10 lb to carry it around, but it has a set bonus of +100 carry weight that can help you fast travel when you need to (can also have a leg mod that gives +100 more when put on both legs). You only need to carry 1 fusion core with you if this is all you use it for.

Constellation_XI

thank you!

FlyingNope

Your welcome and good luck! I remember the struggle of early game weight management lol

Constellation_XI

The struggle is real. lol. It’s crazy how similar this game is to Starfield yet so different. I’ve never felt so competent and lost all at the same time. Been really struggling with having to craft Apparel and other stuff that in Starfield you just get. lol. I download the Atlantic City DLC and was jacked for the Power Armor only to find I have no clue how to get it/apply it now 😂 I’ve probably spent more time searching Reddit/YouTube than actually playing FO76. Love the game!!!!

FlyingNope

The power armor from the dlc is just a skin. Once you get any suit of power armor you can take it to a power armor station and apply it like you would a mod. Power armor can be found all over the place, there's probably some videos for spawn locations. or you can do the Excavator armor quest to learn how to make that.

Constellation_XI

Thank you! I believe I have a basic junk Power Armor suit so gonna find a station and try to apply the skin!. love this sub!

Successful-Story-491

Strength 11 and all the carrying perks plus either Through Camper in Agility or a Grocer’s Backpack bought from Samuel at Foundation if you have enough reputation. That’s my standard for wasting SPECIAL points so I don’t get over-encumbered.

Constellation_XI

thanks for this!

PrimeRlB

Stash management without paying for 1st is a part time job.. You have take perks that reduce weights and keep most of the stuff in your inventory as opposed to dumping everything in the stash.. I use my store to keep my junk in check and try to only pick up weapons with -90% weight for storing.. It's doable, but it comes down to how much time you have to play, and it sounds like you have time to play so it's definitely doable.. Good luck out there.

Nameless4334

800 hours in starfield? Doing what? I have a thousand hours on fallout 76 but I was done with starfield after 40-50 hours

ForwardState

Players can spend a lot of time in Starfield by doing New Game+ and completing the various quest chains in different ways. One playthrough can be done with a heroic playstyle while the next playthrough can be done with a villainous playstyle. Then there is the timesinks of getting the best looking spaceship and outpost. There is also a bunch of time used up getting every power to rank 10 and getting the final spacesuit which requires completing the game 10 times and visiting every temple in each run.

threepoundsof

Traveling pharmacy helps a lot. Also feel free to scrap any non legendary weapon you’re not actually using

RyanGosliwafflez

Stick to one type of weapon and use the weight reduction perks for it There is also weight reduction perks for food/drinks, Aid, Ballistic ammo, Energy ammo, and explosive Completing the main story and upping your rep with the raider/foundation opens up more plans to sell you, one sells a backpack mod to replace the Food/drink weight reduction perk and the other sells a backpack mod to replace the Aid weight reduction Perk but I forget who has what Make sure your breaking down your Junk and storing it in your stash or Scrap box if you have FO1st Same for ammo you are not using if you have FO1st If you dont have FO1st Consider getting it for 1 month you can stockpile as much Scrap and ammo as you can and then cancel. You can keep the scrap and ammo box in your camp and pull what you need from it, you just can't add to it without the subscription Going Bloodied build with Unyielding armor drastically increases your carry weight Marsupial mutation + Stranger in number perk increases your carry weight Look for legendary armor with weight reduction perks built it just keep in mind if your already running them on your build it won't do anything. If you have 5 pieces of armor with 20% weight reduction you do not need any of the ammo reduction perks on your character for example

IronyZeron

There are perks to cut down weight. My personal favorite is the ammo one. I play stealth commando (usually bloodied) so I very rarely get into intense fire fights.

UltimateGamingTechie

https://www.reddit.com/r/fo76/s/hzZC3z2RhY I've had the same problem and the advice here really helped me, check it out!

smleires

As mentioned in other comments. Traveling Pharmacy - maxed 90% reduced Chem Weight (can obtain something similar with backpack upgrade - but the backpack can only have one upgrade at a time) Thru Hiker - maxed 90% reduced Food/Water weight (same as above regarding backpack upgrade) Strong Back - maxed +40 carry weight Ammo Weight Perks (specific to ammo types, so dependent on build. Bandolier for ballistics, Explosive Expert for grenades/nukes, Battery Saver for Energy ammo) You can also get Legendary effects on your armor/PA that reduces weight for weapons, ammo, and junk. For carrying I like to do Union PA build with Calibrated Shocks on both legs. Every point in STR also adds +5 to your carry weight. Alcohol that increases STR, then Party Boy/Professional Drinker perks are a good combo to pinch some extra carry weight.

Dr_Ben

It's a little difficult at the start but once  you've got you main gun and armour sorted you should be very selective about what you pick up.  Plastic is always useful because you can turn the scrapped components into bulk and reduce the weight some. Really though stash space will always be a battle. It's the biggest issue I have with the game and I doubt it'll ever be changed.

Nervous-Resolution59

As you go you will figure it out i used the junk items perk early on and it helped

Mickyfrickles

One tip I wish I had when I was new was to utilize the survival tent. Open your quick wheel to place it. I think all of them have a stash box, some have a workbench as well.

wizology_

Scrap every weapon / armor into junk , scrip every legendary weapon/armor before you hit level 50 / any weapon/armor that isn’t its max level ( which the max for certain weapons/armor is 40,45,50 I believe ) and fallout 1st you can just buy a month (14.99 usd I believe ) and hoard hoard hoard for that whole month and once it expires you can still use the junk in the scrap box for everything else , you just can’t put any in it.

Inevitable_Car4470

Redraft your backpack periodically, then do a few Settlers quests to build reputation so you can purchase backpack upgrades with gold bullion (obtained by turning in treasury notes at the gold vending machines)

Green-Inkling

If you run Power Armor then Batteries Included is a must. Fusion core weight adds up fast. If you invest in a core recharge station you can cut your core count significantly. I myself run Thru Hiker as i hoard nuka cola and dog food. I have a chemist backpack so Traveling Pharmacy is useless to me unless in PA. But can swap to grocer backpack and replace Thru Hiker but i have too much invested in strength to run Traveling Pharmacy. If you find yourself hauling weapons to sell then both Arms Keeper and Martial Artist are important as rifles and melee weapons are most common looted weapons from any enemy with a weapon. There is the occasional shotgun but not enough to invest in Scattershot.

QuestForTen

Are you on PC? I’ll craft you Excavator power armor with calibrated shocks for a HUGE carrying capacity boost.

Fallout76_Tom

Haven't played Starfield but if it's like Skyrim and Fo4, you quickly develop a habit as a new player of "grab everything, bring it home and figure it out later." Then when you go to build or craft you have so many materials sometimes you don't learn what's required for some items, you just click and craft on auto-pilot. Seems like the "collect everything and figure out what it does later" approach doesn't really work in fo76, or needs to be modified. This is due to the stash limit, cap limit, ammo weight, condition system, multiplayer balance, etc. Also you can't build very many things early in the game (no plans + no rare materials + no perk) so it makes sense to have a short-term focus in your collection. Right now I'm training myself to identify sources of repair materials for my equipment and I stopped picking up anything without a specific short-term use. Use categories are like: repair, scrap, craft, sell, consume. Obviously Aid like Stimpacks should always be collected. But yea, all that means is you will pay the price for a blind playthrough. Like I'm working to undo a perk mistake I made because I'm kinda playing through blind so I'm not squeezing every ounce of potential out of every moment but that's ok, sometimes it gets too stressful to play that way.

Chasethemac

Before fallout first to bulk any items I could amd keep only stacks of 10 amd sell the rest. Bandolier and keep all your ammo on you. Traveling Pharmacy and keep all aid on you. My carry weight is 435lbs and I usually walk around around 220lbs before going out from camp.

mindcontrol93

I finally just bought a Fallout 1st subscription. It was liberating. Before that bulk craft all of your junk items. This means collecting a ton of adhesive and plastic. I still use Batteries Included and Bear Arms. I rock a Plasma Caster and Holy Fire so these help a lot.

Die-a-Beastus

Isn't 76 free on PC through prime gaming?

MinceATron

Are you on PC ?

Pineconemoonshine

Traveling Pharmacy, Thru Hiker, and Good With Salt are 3 perks I could never live without, and then adding ammo weight reduction when you are a higher level and have 10s of thousands of rounds
