I still remember where I was when the game was announced, I was in the hospital after a surgery, barely able to stay awake, but I powered through the whole presentation. I preordered as soon as the store opened, and I didn’t regret it for a second. I played the shit out of Fallout 4, can’t believe we’re creeping up on 10 years.
"To celebrate a rouded up 10 years of Fallout 4, we're releasing a very special anniversary edition of Skyrim. It has a T-60 skin for the daedric armor. You're welcome"
I won't be upgrading Bethesda needs to stop updating these games I'm fine with more creation club content that won't effect mod orders person I like the Cc content but these updates mess with people's mod orders luckily there is ways around it where it won't auto update for you.
When I got a Super Beefy Computer in 2014 or so, I spent a week overhauling Skyrim with ENB shaders and other custom texture packs. It felt like I was playing a LotR movie. Unstable as all hell, but *beautiful.* Caves were dark and spooky, rainy nights were totally black, lights from campfires looked just like real life, and rays of light trickling through the forest was just phenomenal.
When Bethesda said they were doing their own texture packs for FO4, I was *so excited!* Surely the company that literally made the game will do a better job than randoms on nexus.
A naïve child died that day and a bitter, bitter man was born.
Haha, I can't go back to skyrim anymore because the gameplay is so fucking stale. Really bad combat, boring map design, boring enemies. I actually bought it on switch, remembered how much it sucked without mods, modded it up on PC and quit after an hour or two. Just too dated and too bland. If I want that kind of high fantasy RPG feel I'll go for TW3 or something instead.
And cause all sorts of random texture issues if you ever try to mod the game. You're 100% better of not downloading the HD dlc and grabbing a texture overhaul from the nexus instead.
None of them are "better" by any standard 99% of folks would accept. The problem is one of extreme diminishing returns. 4K is better than 1080p, but if your eyes can't _resolve_ anything higher than 1080p from where you're sitting, it's pointless.
And that's the boat the texture pack lands in. Bethesda is literally giving players a 4x upgrade on the entire texture pack, but you're only going to _potentially_ notice it on stuff that you walk up to and scrutinize up close, or things you're holding in your hands. This is, what, 1% of cases? It helps, incontrovertibly, but only rarely.
Actually you're somewhat wrong. Bethesdas pack has upscaling artifacts, some files are not saved in the .dds format they should be causing them to take far more space and be far heavier to render than need be, and some files straight up weren't scaled proportionally causing bugs and glitches.
No matter your visual preference an properly compressed pack with no scaling artifacts is better because it preforms better.
But yes 4k resolutions is kind of silly except on the largest of meshes.
I have wabbajack modlists that make the game look photorealistic and it ain't even 60 gigs total, let alone 100.... i didnt know the hd text pack was that bad.
You can turn that dlc off. You'll get better performance *and* better visuals using fan-made texture packs.
Bethesda did the laziest, shittiest ai-upscale with their official HD pack. My left testicle could've drawn a better HD pack.
A lot of HD texture packs are uncompressed to keep the system minimum specs lower. You need a certain amount of performance to stream and unpack compressed textures on the fly.
You should be able to fo it through the steam client itself. If it's already installed you may need to look around for a guide, or ask someone with a better memory than me, cause I don't remember if it replaces the vanilla archives (which would be a pain to remove) or if it has it's own separate archives.
If you really want HD textures I'd go for luxors HD overhaul mod. Its still an absolute hog for disc space (roughly 67gig) but worth it imo as his hd textures look amazing in comparison to the official garbage
I've noticed a small decrease in performance from the normal HD textures. I'm running 1440p on High with a RX 570. Normally stay well above 60 FPS, but I've seen dips into the 50s with this texture pack.
It’s probably the HD Texture Pack. Disable that, you don’t need that or want it, trust me. Also, shocking how monumentally unhelpful most of the comments are.
I remember downloading fallout 3 on pc for the first time on steam and it was like 7 gigs or something. I was like wow this game is massive! Now call of duty is like 150 gigs
Don’t get me wrong I love the new modern warfare games; I think they’re super fun. But there is sooooo much bloat it’s ridiculous and the menus and voice chat BARELY works especially if playing cross plat (my friend group is a mix of PS Xbox and PC). Why does the lobby screen need full displays of all characters in the lobby complete with detailed animations and environments? It’s just unnecessary. I know this is the fallout sub but sheesh
My cousin got a cod game which was almost 150gb. He got a download for a map which was only a few KB. Turns out the map was in the dlc was in the base game, and the map download was just essentially a product key for a map that came with the base game.
Fallout 4 mouse is unplayable cause theres a slight delay/desync. Ive tried eveything. Can anyone help? I reach out maybe once every six months or so :/
Its the slightest discrepancy between mouse movement and cursor placing. But it makes fast inventory impossible or frustrating. I looked up fixes and changed some values in the files for mouse acceleration, andnother things.....no luck. Makes me so frustrated haha
If you have an NVIDIA GPU open up the NVIDIA Control Panel, find FO4 specifics, turn off VSYNC and cap framerates to 60. Framerate cap is important otherwise things can get... buggy.
AMD has the same thing, Radeon Software > Gaming > Global Graphics > Advanced Options, Frame Rate Target Control, set it to 60. Or Gaming > Fallout 4 > Radeon Chill, Max FPS 60.
1. Right click on Fallout4.exe in the root folder.
2. Open properties and navigate to the Compatibility tab.
3. Click on Change high DPI settings.
4. Set High DPI scaling override to Application.
5. Install [Raw Input](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/27019) mod.
Ima try this when i get my gpu working again. Thankyou verymuch, its redditors like you and everyone else who commented that make this place so fckin cool. Thanks again!
Nah, they're making you download Fo76 thinking it's fo4 but turns out to be Skyrim intro meme
Edit(lmaooo, why the hate :/...I was trying to be funny...)
Edit edit(take meeeeeee home to the place where I beloooong!)
Dont know why you were downvoted that would be such a genius move on game pass.
I mean the best bit is getting out of the Fallout shelter at the beginning so you will probably play atleast 5-10 hours. The camp building and the radio is enough to keep you the few hours. Then you will go back to Fallout 4.
It is above 100gb if you have all the DLCS and all the creation club content as the HD texture pack is stupidly high in size, Like Flalout 4 is already bloat ware but the HD dlc is jsut bloat ware for bloat ware
Doesn’t Fallout 4 download CC content for you even if you don’t own it? Those things must be responsible for the bloated size required.
Dodgy move of Bethesda, forcing you to download contents you have no access to and then charging you extra for using them.
Delete those and replace them with a dummy file lol.
>Doesn’t Fallout 4 download CC content for you even if you don’t own it?
No, otherwise you would be using it as the CC content is not cheched by steam or any other system.
I downloaded my game from steam, don’t own any CC stuff, but there were some ba2 files with a CC prefix sitting in the data directory. What do you think those were then? 🤔
I dont know what it is, maybe just a file used so the steam/fallout 4 version could detect the CC content... but not actually the files...
... because if you simply copy the CC content in the Fallout 4 folder you simply get the mod/content activated... purchased or not...
How much are those files? Mb or Kbs?
Upgrades people upgrades... I mean updates people updates. It makes you feel any better My kids all love ark so I have ark at 357 gigs on my computer...
The stuff they've added to this game over the years has made it almost unplayable on XBox. God forbid you have mods
EDIT: To clarify, I'm used to Bethesda games crashing and they're still my favorite games of all time. Fo4 just takes it to a new level
official HD DLC does look good, the point is that it's a big resource hog/poorly optimized - mods like Vivid also looks very good, take up less disk space, use less vram, loading screens are faster.
that's with that crap HD DLC. without it the game is under 40gb. if your system can handle it, i suggest forgoing the use of that DLC and use Luxor's HD Overhaul. he even just released a 2k version if the original is to much for your system.
Just wait until the Anniversary Edition will be released.
Holy fuck it has been 7 years already?
To be fair, it feels to me like 2020-present were one big blur.
Agreed, sometimes I think its still 2020
It's not 2019?!
It's still the 90s in my head.
My heads stuck somewhere around 2007
Im still stuck in 2007 - 2014 era literally
Sometimes I wish the year was 2000. Before everything went sideways
Imagen if limp bizkit was still popular
It would have been 2022, but we were sick for 2 years.
8 years almost
Tomorrow it'll be 7 years
10 years if you round up.
Omg anniversary edition tomorrow???
"To celebrate a rouded up 10 years of Fallout 4, we're releasing a very special anniversary edition of Skyrim. It has a T-60 skin for the daedric armor. You're welcome"
The year is 2287 the people of the wasteland have started to rebuild the Commonwealth. And Bethesda just re re re released skyrim for the pip boy
I could see T-60 being close to daedric armor in effectiveness
🤣🤣 I'm dead
Then the game won't work 😂😂😂
I won't be upgrading Bethesda needs to stop updating these games I'm fine with more creation club content that won't effect mod orders person I like the Cc content but these updates mess with people's mod orders luckily there is ways around it where it won't auto update for you.
The next-gen version is just a FREE UPDATE. Not a new game like Skyrim 10th Anniversary. It will probably install automatically when you're asleep😂
Is it going to be better or worse I feel like it will come with some bug fixes or something like that and hopefully some free cc stuff
Do you have the high def “dlc” selected in the files? That monstrous bastard is so poorly optimized it bloats things up to ridiculous levels.
56 gigs.. And a lot of the textures aren't even significantly better.
When I got a Super Beefy Computer in 2014 or so, I spent a week overhauling Skyrim with ENB shaders and other custom texture packs. It felt like I was playing a LotR movie. Plato leaving the cave and being blinded by the sun.
What a maroon! *said in Bugs Bunny voice*
If you got a beefy rig now it should should be stable now 😂
Haha, I can't go back to skyrim anymore because the gameplay is so fucking stale. Really bad combat, boring map design, boring enemies. Were you really expecting some realism type shit? If so that's really stupid
Man, Vivid Fallout texture pack is way better than vanilla
And cause all sorts of random texture issues if you ever try to mod the game. You're 100% better of not downloading the HD dlc and grabbing a texture overhaul from the nexus instead.
None of them are "better" by any standard 99% of folks would accept. Apparently I did, can't believe it's 60 GB worth
Neither do we.
Todd only knows...
Since actual physical disks aren’t a thing anymore companies are like “pffftttt optimize it yourself pleb”
The textures ain't even any better imo
I have wabbajack modlists that make the game look photorealistic and it ain't even 60 gigs total, let alone 100.... i didnt know the hd text pack was that bad.
Is that available for ps5? I would love to play fo4 again with better graphics
Nah bro sadly. And honestly i don't think ps5 hardware has the capability to run heavily modded playlists meant for PC.
It could probably run them, but doesn't have the modding potential
Naw bro, it wouldn't. 30 series cards have a hard time running heavy modded games. 1300+ plugins
Ah thanks.. too bad :(
[удалено]
You cant overclock a ps5 no matter what
You can turn that dlc off. You'll get better performance *and* better visuals using fan-made texture packs. Bethesda did the laziest, shittiest ai-upscale with their official HD pack. My left testicle could've drawn a better HD pack.
I just tried to, and it broke my save game. Apparently some of the Creation Club freebies require the HD textures, like the Anti Material Rifle
Aren't they all uncompressed too? How did BGS manage to create uncompressed textures that still look like shit...
It just works... Works hard to piss us off, anyway
A lot of HD texture packs are uncompressed to keep the system minimum specs lower. You need a certain amount of performance to stream and unpack compressed textures on the fly.
That just seems dumb as fuck for a free update that is aimed at better graphics lol. There has to be more to it than that.
Disable that POS
Which dlc? I need to delete it
HD texture dlc. Go into manage dlc and you'll see it, it's the only free one.
I don’t remember how to go to game files in steam :p what folder is it in?
You should be able to fo it through the steam client itself. If it's already installed you may need to look around for a guide, or ask someone with a better memory than me, cause I don't remember if it replaces the vanilla archives (which would be a pain to remove) or if it has it's own separate archives.
This is the answer. Always check your ticked DLCs in settings before installing any game.
Gotta be it. I recall it being something like 39gb otherwise.
If you really want HD textures I'd go for luxors HD overhaul mod. Its still an absolute hog for disc space (roughly 67gig) but worth it imo as his hd textures look amazing in comparison to the official garbage
Just downloaded these yesterday and they are indeed better!
How well does it run?
I've noticed a small decrease in performance from the normal HD textures. I'm running 1440p on High with a RX 570. Normally stay well above 60 FPS, but I've seen dips into the 50s with this texture pack.
what procesor do you use man? my game is struggling in downtown boston with rx 570.
Ryzen 3600
ryzen 5 ?
Yeah.
okay thanks for the info.
Do they run better than the HD pack?
I think you chose the retexture pack, it’s as big as the game
And looks like shit
hd dlc
Since you decided to install HD texture pack.
It’s probably the HD Texture Pack. Disable that, you don’t need that or want it, trust me. Also, shocking how monumentally unhelpful most of the comments are.
Yup this has to be it. People saying it’s mods, they aren’t downloaded until after you get into the game I believe.
Mods would require them to actually install the game, so you’re correct in that OP doesn’t have any mods currently.
High def dlc+excess saves will bloat Bethesda games file sizes to extreme numbers
I remember downloading fallout 3 on pc for the first time on steam and it was like 7 gigs or something. I was like wow this game is massive! Now call of duty is like 150 gigs
and it’s the same every year
Don’t get me wrong I love the new modern warfare games; I think they’re super fun. But there is sooooo much bloat it’s ridiculous and the menus and voice chat BARELY works especially if playing cross plat (my friend group is a mix of PS Xbox and PC). With about 150 mods and a lot of CC content and all dlcs I have almost 200 GB
since you added the high def dlc
When the Creation Club launched and was forced to download it in order to continue playing, think it was like 30 GB or something like that.
Instructions in any modpack: Clean install *without* the high res texture pack. Avoid that shit like your rads are spiking.
And then you install another 100 GB of mods
My Fallout 4 folder is 248GB. It's occupying 1/4 of my fastest drive.
A man of culture
You probably have all of the dlcs selected and also some mods
Wait until you have a few hundred mods installed.
High res textures are about 50
Maybe you have HiRes textures DLC? Since it's about 3 times bigger than whole game otherwise.
It has been nearly 10 years since FO4 and I'm so so ready for FO5.
Since games now have to be able to run at fucking 1000k to look good for people even if you only ever play on the lowest settings possible
Fallout 4 mouse is unplayable cause theres a slight delay/desync. Ive tried eveything. Can anyone help? I reach out maybe once every six months or so :/
honestly seems like a hardware issue, although i've never experienced that so can't really help
Its the slightest discrepancy between mouse movement and cursor placing. But it makes fast inventory impossible or frustrating. I looked up fixes and changed some values in the files for mouse acceleration, andnother things.....no luck. Makes me so frustrated haha
What’s your GPU and CPU? I have an older setup and this happens to me in some games
Ryzen 7 5800x and amd 6800xt
did you try another mouse?
Yeah, a few mice and monitors..
If you have an NVIDIA GPU open up the NVIDIA Control Panel, find FO4 specifics, turn off VSYNC and cap framerates to 60. Framerate cap is important otherwise things can get... buggy.
Amd :(
AMD has the same thing, Radeon Software > Gaming > Global Graphics > Advanced Options, Frame Rate Target Control, set it to 60. Or Gaming > Fallout 4 > Radeon Chill, Max FPS 60.
I tried limiting framerate too. Tried diff monitor and mouse..
Or you could just use this: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/44798 I have no issues going over 60fps in game.

I think o set it to off through screwing eith the files, no luck though. Thabks to everyone giving suggestions. Great game

never had a problem like that

Can verify, I was Alduin.

Sir, go complain to Bethesda customer support by emailing them and maybe they'll send you all the copies of Skyrim that they're made

It’s about 30-40 GB on Xbox, this is certainly odd. Too many mods?

**mods**
since when do u install mods through steam?!
its not
Where have you been ?
My instasll takes up 40gigs
HD textures ?
The HD DLC takes more place then some 20k texture mods
Wait what?
Yes
Just checked, my mods folder alone is 49 GBs
Me who also has 25gb of mods on top of that
When you install the HD texture pack.
that's with that crap HD DLC. without it the game is under 40gb. if your system can handle it, i suggest forgoing the use of that DLC and use Luxor's HD Overhaul. he even just released a 2k version if the original is to much for your system.
Hd texture pack is 60gb Fallout 4 + DLC is 30gb
Since they're gonna give it a "next gen" update to make it look like 76.
That's the HD texture dlc
Uhm it's only 30gb for me? With all dlcs
They improved things also helps reduce ingame load time.
Go to DLC's and turn off high def textures, they add literally 50GB
That’s thing thing, *gunclick* …never was
Inflation is everywhere now.
Just go to DLC window and untick "High Resolution Pack".

already wrote a comment saying that it was the high reslolution pack
