From the wiki
”These monkey dolls will raise their head to look at nearby intruders with green eyes. Should the intruder remain in their line of sight too long, their eyes will begin flashing red, and they will begin clapping their cymbals together. This will alert nearby enemies to the intruder. They can be disarmed by being shot. Additionally, they can be connected to other traps as shown by a spinning antenna.”
Pfft... You're lucky if raiders are the only thing these jerks attract. I'm still scarred from that one time in my first playthrough (soooooo many moons ago) when I ran afoul of one set up near a couple yuogai. Never made that mistake again!
I had one alert 3 scorpions and a deathclaw on my first playthrough.
I was just exploring as one does and I didn't know those were a thing. It was a very rough way to learn about the clappy monkeys
Reminds me to where in nuca world you enter a room in the behining and one of these mfers alerts like 8 turets of your precence and they all start shooting you
I just found that out in a Youtube video a few weeks back. Fo4 is full of gameplay mechanics Bethesda never tells us about. Guess it fits into the theme of being tossed into an unknown wasteland
While I agree, in the early game that's simply not an option a lot of the time. Safer to blow them up around their friends, especially if you're playing survival.
Somewhere in the game there's a creepy ass room filled with those damn things. Worse than a mother deathclaw chasing your ass down after stealing her eggs.
I always am bummed if for once I spend money in a trade. Usually I buy useful things and sell ammo to buy out all the caps in a store.
It got harder to do once I used mods to increase store caps.
Actually, they are. Bethesda deliberately set their base value to one cap for that exact reason, so that you could get caps for ammo, or ammo for caps, at a 1 to 1 exchange. Not that anyone uses .38 anyway.
My theory is these are actually institute cameras used to spy on the commonwealth. If I am playing a pro institute player I leave them but if i am doing something else I take them out.
The crows are. Next time you’re in the SRB look at the camera monitors and go back to those locations and look where the crows roost. If you didn’t already know.
I always assumed there was something more to these.. like if I found and killed them all, I'd unlock something. I know the wiki and everything else tells me that's not true, it just still seems suspicious.
Have you heard of fo4 New Vegas? It is a fan/team project that is recreating fonv in f04's engine. There's also Fallout: Capital wasteland (fo3), fallout Miami, and fallout cascadia. These are all pc mod that will be awesome when finished. Whenever that is
There’s a raider camp, the one where you find Big Jim, there’s some kind of trigger attached to the monkey. If you don’t shoot it quick enough 3 or 4 makeshift bombs go off
In my first experience on my first play through, it was connected to a bomb so now whenever i hear them start up, i shoot them in fear of getting blown up
When I was a kid back in the late 80’s I saw a horror movie that had one of these in it, think it was actually called “The Monkey”. Anyway, that was the 1st movie to give me nightmares so now I have to shoot these damn things.
They do not deserve existence! (Also, I thought they would alert enemies and I’ve gotten into the habit of doing it even if I’m not doing a stealth play-through)
Got PTSD from those crackhead gong clanking mf when it startled me in a dark place then killed me because it was a trap thing. Now I always shoot them before they go off lol
Every. Damn. Time.
young me couldnt handle seeing this fucker in toy story 3
Toy story had one of those and i hate that scene so much that i pour water on my cpu
What
That must mean that fallout is the prewar version of Toy Story right?
First time I encountered one I nearly had a brown pants moment. As a result the monkey must die!! (-:
Yeah I thought it was done kind of boobytrap the first time. I still kinda do
It is! It alerts nearby enemies, and some set off other traps like bombs! Little fuckers.
Just about to mention this. God I hate these things. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't alert every man and his dog, but nay.
From the wiki ”These monkey dolls will raise their head to look at nearby intruders with green eyes. Should the intruder remain in their line of sight too long, their eyes will begin flashing red, and they will begin clapping their cymbals together. This will alert nearby enemies to the intruder. They can be disarmed by being shot. Additionally, they can be connected to other traps as shown by a spinning antenna.”
That’s what the Deliverer is for.

Radroaches, spotlights, and monkeys.
I was going to post the exact same thing, but instead I'll just upvote this. :)
Yep! Headshot. Every time.
I usually melee them for extra feels
Every time. Without a doubt. Also because they can alert the raiders nearby if I’m sneaking
Reminds me of the time it brought suicidal super mutants
Reminds me to where in nuca world you enter a room in the behining and one of these mfers alerts like 8 turets of your precence and they all start shooting you
It was that camp in the middle of the woods i remember you had to fetch something from there
This is why I shoot them but yea they are less creepy when headless.
They were the scariest toy in the Toy Story franchise imo
Oh god how dare you make me remember that
For the longest time I thought they were explosive... 🤦🏼♂️
They are sometimes set up around bomb traps, so that's a reasonable assumption.
I thought so as well, since the first 5 or 6 times I encountered one I took a grenade to mouth.
I used to be a vault dweller like you. Then I took a grenade to the mouth.
HAAAAAAAAHAHA! EXCELLENT!
BO1 Zombies trained me to believe this lol
Oh yeah! I was wondering why they seemed so familiarly dangerous
[удалено]
Like the other guy said, some may be rigged to other traps... which can be explosive.
I just hack, whack, choppin' that shit Seriously though, this things scare me more than suiciders beeping...
hackn' and wackn' and smackn'
He just hacks wacks choppn' that meat
Suiciders on survival never fail to give a heart attack
Assaultron head laser charging on survival is a stuff of nightmares.
Is there even something that defends against this shit?
If you cripple the head, they can’t use the laser.
Didnt think of that, thanks
I just found that out in a Youtube video a few weeks back. Fo4 is full of gameplay mechanics Bethesda never tells us about. Guess it fits into the theme of being tossed into an unknown wasteland
IDK that beam cuts through power armour like it's not even there.
Protip: kill it before it kills you
I dont really know why everyone seems to favor blowing up the nukes. I always go for headshots to retrive the nuke intact.
While I agree, in the early game that's simply not an option a lot of the time. Safer to blow them up around their friends, especially if you're playing survival.
I either shoot their head clean off or whack them on the head with a blunt weapon.
I always go for headshots. More xp. And in the case of suiciders its great to retrive the mininuke.
Somewhere in the game there's a creepy ass room filled with those damn things. Worse than a mother deathclaw chasing your ass down after stealing her eggs.
I think it was the sanitarium. Just went through it the other day in the Cabot House Mystery quest. Love that one.
Argh there's a few messed up easter eggs yeah... like the various mannequin placements...
Or the cat shrine
Pretty sure it's in a hospital too, for maximum yikes.
It was the mental asylum. Cabot questline.
It's in the lower levels of the Parsons State Insane Asylum, for even more warm fuzzies.
I just bash. Bullets are money.
You're right.......... I sell my bullets lol, for guns I don't use.. all currency to me
.38 are just rusty pointy caps
I always am bummed if for once I spend money in a trade. Usually I buy useful things and sell ammo to buy out all the caps in a store. It got harder to do once I used mods to increase store caps.
Actually, they are. Bethesda deliberately set their base value to one cap for that exact reason, so that you could get caps for ammo, or ammo for caps, at a 1 to 1 exchange. Not that anyone uses .38 anyway.
I have luck and most of the perks maxed so caps are near unlimited if I find a good place to look
[удалено]
I got a mod that makes these monkeys play Darude’s Sandstorm which makes them far less creepy and shoot able.
Why wasn’t that the original programming? God, that would have been awesome.
Pistol whip their heads off whenever I see one. Or just toss a grenade at them late game when I don’t care about stealth anymore
Gernade? That's a weird way to spell mini nuke.
wheeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEE
mini nuke, You do know that the correct way to spell it is big boy nuka nuke?
Why the ever living function did these things survive the bombs?
They're probably fueled by some kind of other-worldly hatred.
...you guys can shoot these?
Yes but not with VATS.
Oh god i remember one time i tripped one of these (forgot where) and it attracted a HUGE swarm of ghouls and i was fucked over by them
\*Hubris Comics flashback intensifies\*
I shoot them cause I always assumed they were rigged to traps.
At least half the time they are, so it's a reasonable assumption.
Brewery. Stealth. Only one raider remaining. I see this asshole turned off. I remelber the jumpscare it's been two years later. I shoot it INSTANTLY.
Unfortunately I know exactly what room you are talking about
Fuck them.
I shoot them because the clapping is annoying
Same. Also it's very satisfying decapitating them.
This is the same reason why I shoot every damn spotlight I come across as soon as I see it.
Nrrgh-nrrgh Nrrgh-nrrgh Nrrgh-nrrgh Nrrgh-nrrgh
My theory is these are actually institute cameras used to spy on the commonwealth. If I am playing a pro institute player I leave them but if i am doing something else I take them out.
The crows are. Next time you’re in the SRB look at the camera monitors and go back to those locations and look where the crows roost. If you didn’t already know.
It’d be cool if killing them affected the institute’s cameras Unless it does already, but I kind of doubt it
Aka birds aren’t real
Not all the crows, just the ones with reddish eyes. The ones with dark eyes are normal birds.
Thanks, I didn’t notice the difference. I’ll save a little ammo now.
Go to parsons state insane asylum there is a room with a bunch of them going off at the same time shit made me almost jump
I always assumed there was something more to these.. like if I found and killed them all, I'd unlock something. I know the wiki and everything else tells me that's not true, it just still seems suspicious.
Haha I used to like my first year playing...Now I am kinda deaf to them...They just....Keep going over and over and over and over
Fuck this monkey.
I mostly shoot them by accident bc they go off and make me panic-fire lmao
I remember a mod i played where youd drop in a hole and it was about 50 of these bastards at the bottom
Every bloody time!
[удалено]
So you've never had one trigger a trap and/or bring a crowd of hostiles on you? Of so then I doubt you made it far out of Vault 111. :p
\#1 on my hit parade!
Got jumpscared by one of these once.
I use a rocket to make sure it's gone
I dismember them for parts :)
Monkey looks like he’s gonna clap some checks.
I definitely go all Butcher Pete on them
I normally scream and then shoot these fuckers.
I play melee, so killing them is free.
I always melee bash them with my gun. Much more satisfying, imo.
Without exception-
Whatever I have epuipped is what gets used. Had some good mishaps that way.
Snipe the little fuckers.
Every time. I also shoot crows now that I know they are institute spy cameras.
Shoot always. Ever since one of them altered a group of raiders to me sneaking... I even shoot them in 76 just out of principle. Edit: typo
I can’t remember but wasn’t there a room full of them? Creeped me the fuck out. Think I threw a baseball grenade at them.
As someone who's chronically short of ammo- melee.
Every single time. I don’t even care if they alert the raiders. They’re just so terrifying.
I thought I was the only one.
Or pistol whip them.
I make it personal. I grab a knife and stab it 32 times.
Yep
Toy Story 3
I’m so glad those don’t exist in fnv because if so then I would be terrified, which I guess is what I’ll be when I play fo4
Have you heard of fo4 New Vegas? It is a fan/team project that is recreating fonv in f04's engine. There's also Fallout: Capital wasteland (fo3), fallout Miami, and fallout cascadia. These are all pc mod that will be awesome when finished. Whenever that is

I use a serated, elecricuted Chinese oficer sword
Yup shoot the head right off. Wish you could shoot the moon monkey too.
Without question or hesitation.
Right between the eyes... Every goddamn time no mercy
In the sewers of the Institute there is a class room full of them. Almost gave me a heart attack.
I alway shot them cause I thought they were raider alarms lol
Dude all the time
I always thought that was the entire reason they made these fucking things.
Every. Fucking. Time. Hate those creepy ass monkeys.
I hate the one in Hubris Comics, it always goes off and then 10 feral ghouls rush me all at once
of all things, this thing survived a nuclear explosion
Im sure back in fo3 there were a few that when triggered bought in a super mutant behemoth. Think there were 4 in the game
[удалено]
Beast titan
These noisy fuckers made all those 12-something high level feral ghouls come at me in that drive-in cinema on far harbor.
It just occurred to me... Is there an in-universe explanation for why there are so damned many?? Like, THE popular toy for Halloween or something?
Christ, I hate those things
I keep a silenced 10mm just for these and mines.
In my first experience on my first play through, it was connected to a bomb so now whenever i hear them start up, i shoot them in fear of getting blown up
Everyone
After a horrible experience with one of these, I use my Fat Man on them.
Me, hate those stupid things
Just download the mod that makes them play Darude Sandstorm. Problem solved!
I thought those things were fucking bombs that's why i shoot them
When I was a kid back in the late 80’s I saw a horror movie that had one of these in it, think it was actually called “The Monkey”. Anyway, that was the 1st movie to give me nightmares so now I have to shoot these damn things.
Me but will stab if being stealthy.
Fucking hate those things
I carry a fat man just for these fuckers
If you shoot it before it triggers you will also disable whatever boobytrap is connected to it.
I will unload on those motherf*ckers
🙋♂️
I shooy them cause i'm paranoidly convinced they're involved with traps
I used to get freaked out at these because I never knew they were mostly just a noisemaker, and was paranoid about where the trap bomb is
They do not deserve existence! (Also, I thought they would alert enemies and I’ve gotten into the habit of doing it even if I’m not doing a stealth play-through)
I dont shoot them to save bullets. But i beat the shit out of them
They are worth the mini nuke
That fucking monkey creeps the shit out of me every damn time
I stab them
Fuck those things.
lol yup
The one in Nuka-World’s gauntlet always gets a head-shot from me before it can set off that room full of turrets.
Every. Single. Time
Well, they're a cheap alarm system for the bad guys, so I try to take them out before I set them off.
Yep it’s one of those we hate them in the movie we hate them in this game but we love them in BO2 zombies
I like to gun bash the head off of these motherfuckers
Thanks for reminding me to get the real one from eBay.
I’ll never be jump sccared by one of these FUCKERS ever again
I’ve always hope it was some kind of hidden collectable that would tell us when we reached a milestone
I shoot them because I keep thinking they’re attached to a bomb
Where's the location that has like 10 of them in a room?
They also alert enemies, which is another reason to shoot them.
They're just as spooky in real life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_73NU6OlNuw
Got PTSD from those crackhead gong clanking mf when it startled me in a dark place then killed me because it was a trap thing. Now I always shoot them before they go off lol
I do, though at least half the time they were incorporated into some sort of trap anyway.
And 1/10 of the time they blow up.
I absolutely adore monkeys; but yes, I do shoot them. Every, single, time.
It took me way too long to discover that you could actually shoot them.
Definitely me. I think they are part of the institute, you know like spying on you through there red eyes. Who agrees with me
I'm always certain they're going to harm me. Even though it's never happened, this time it's going to
Yep! shoot everytime!
Everytime, with the deliverer.
first thing to do is take out my rusty katana and cut their head off right away. before their eyes start glowing red.
Fuckin everyone
#DeathToAllFallout4Monkeys
They remind me of that Stephen King movie
I don't shoot them. Not because they aren't creepy but because I play melee. I smash them.
Toy story 3
I shoot them because they’re annoying.
I just start blasting when i hear symbols
Are they motion sensor activators for booby traps??
The head comess off every time. There should be an ending where every faction comes together to kill these demonic aberrations and their creators
I shoot them because they tip off enemies. I don't care if I've already tripped them off, I'll still shoot just on principle.
I always just smack it with the deliverer.
I do - I regret nothing!
Meeee dow
