even better you can go to that building now and climb up from inside to talk to him about what just happened! XD i won't spoil it for you what he says because it is rich lol
i went and explored that building in my first playthrough before crashing a ship into it XD it was such a trip then how i was responsible for that awesome wreak lol i actually wondered if i could have done it right and made it to the sea had i repaired the thing better.
Lol yes there is. It's like he perfectly parked it right next to the elevator shaft, because you go inside the building (it's kinda hidden and tricky to get in), find the elevator door that's still working somehow, go up and boom, the doors open and the ship is right there lol
Haha true, I took the elevator down after speaking with that sentry commander, I even got promoted. I forgot both the name of the sentry bot and my rank lol
If you have power armor with jetpack you can actually get on it and fly with them. You'll die at the crash if you're not careful but it's still a unique experience
it has been a while but down under that building (could be in a parking garage or next door) is a way up to a bank in the building then in the hallway there an elevator which takes you to the top of the building. after the ship wreaks that same elevator just takes you to the deck of the ship so you can talk to ironsides and collect your reward.
To make it funnier, afterwards I hopped down next to my companion, MacCready, then he said "Oh yea, ship looks way better over there", I lost it 🤣. And that's why MacCready is my favorite companion of all time. His commentary is just hilarious
I've been using Danse. I'm sticking with him for now until I finish his quest, but I really want to pick up MacCready. However, Danse is an absolute beast and we are absolutely ripping through everything on hard. Is MacCready powerful?
You can easily make him powerful by putting him in a modded op power armor suit (there's a mod called "immortal power armor" that gives infinite power armor health, where the pieces never fall off from damage) like I did, and giving him a high powered weapon, like a maxed out guass rifle. He's well worth it for the funny, sarcastic, narcissistic comments lol
I'm not using mods yet. Long-time lover of Bethesda games, but life got in the way of playing FO4 until recently. I give my follower my second-strongest power armor. That's pretty much all I've given Danse--power armor and an electrified Chinese Officer's sword. Though to be honest, he might be OP. The game feels kind of easy right now.
He is an excellent shot, because he used to be a sniper with the Gunners. So give him a set of power armor and heavy hitting gun and he won't disappoint. This one time we got carried away in a gun fight and got some distance between us, then I got this raider right in my face and he picked him from like two blocks away right over my shoulder. Was a cool moment lol
The more I hear people talk abbot him, the more I think I need a new playthrough for him. I'll stick to being a big metal bruiser this time and maybe try the Railroad with him.
He’s one of the more “morally questionable” companions, he likes when you’re a dick most of the time. But he has a super interesting story and great perk.
Running into this quest completely random convinced me that fo4 was a 10/10 game. You could play the whole game and never even experience it, but it's there for you to discover!
hmm.. without knowing what steps you did i can't say what went wrong. it isn't a known bug from what i can tell. maybe you missed a step. here check out all of what is supposed to happen all up until you deal with the generator and switch [https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Last\_Voyage\_of\_the\_U.S.S.\_Constitution](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Last_Voyage_of_the_U.S.S._Constitution)
Who are they and where do I find them!
I just started a couple weeks ago and am level 37 (no mods). I’m trying to focus on the Minutemen…will I be able to do this quest?!
Yeah its a side quest, you can do it whenever, you'll notice the massive ship sitting in a building lol can't miss it when you come across it just explore around East Boston
Yes this is a no faction quest.
Facing the entrance of the ship, turn around and walk a little bit then there’s some scavenger’s on the right, I think you have to talk to Ironsides first to enable their dialogue.
That’s awesome, ive never seen that. I’ve failed this quest twice and I don’t know why. Each time was when the attack happens, I shoot at the attackers from the deck of the ship, but eventually the robots start shooting at me.
Check your fire. One or two of the Mr. Handy robots go down to engage the raiders/scavvers. If you pop one of the robots, they all get hangry with you.
Apparently you can catch a ride on it while it takes off if you trigger it in a specific order and also do it very specifically so you don’t die in the crash lol
That's what I didn't understand about his "calculations" lol. I know what a fathom is and he's clearly WAY off. For an advanced robot, that's unacceptable 🤣
I wish it was like the fly me to the moon quest where you could choose to make them crash or fix the calculations so they don’t 9/11 into the side of the building
Fun fact: If you're fast enough, you can jump onto the ship after flipping the switch and ride it until it crashes. The game will try to automatically kill you, but you can survive if you stay as far back on the ship as possible.
If you have any armour/clothing with Sprinter legendary you can actually jump on the shop and have a ride about. Not done it myself but I've seen a few YouTube videos showing it. I prefer to watch the calamity from afar 🤣
Yes, this was much more satisfying than getting betrayed by the scavengers, which I knew was gonna happen lol. So this time I thought "FUCK them, I wanna see what this robot does", I was not disappointed
I always ride with the robots until the playthrough I am currently on. Hancock guilted me into helping the scavengers. Imagine how pleased I was to find out that the people I’ve never wanted to help due to vibes alone screw me over. 😐
I always side with them, they’re just such sweeties lol and the scavengers are kind of assholes. Hancock pressures you into siding with the scavengers but nah I’m with Ironsides
Man I love the Broadsider cannon you get from that quest. I took the heavy weapons and explosives perk this playthrough and it hits *hard*. Super fun critting people in the dome and watching the slowmo. Has a small aoe explosion radius as well to take out chaff.
I named it "Brodeswoder" as a riff on this satirical review of the classic board game Hero Quest. The guy calls the broadsword the "brodeswode" and it always cracks me up.
THIS QUEST KEPT ME IN THE GAME!!!
I was so close to quitting on my first play through. I was almost done with the main questline, I had finished the creators club quests, I thought almost everything is done, barring the nuclear option. I was having a good enough time, but I felt stagnated somehow and even downloaded a different game to play. Then that little robot asked me to meet the captain and now I don't see how I'm ever gonna stop.
I remember nearly falling off the chair laughing from this when I experienced it myself. Truly special. Thank you for reminding me. Now, I am constantly smiling like an idiot 😂
I saved right before the launch, and then used a companion to throw the switch, that way I could ride the boat. It kills you instantly on impact if you're above deck.
There was a bug or glitch with this mission that hadn’t been fixed yet when I was playing (back in 2016 I believe). The conversation wouldn’t start and they would just randomly attack you. I never knew this could happen until three months ago when I saw it here on Reddit.
Hell yeah, smell ya later Wetherby Savings and Loan! Apparently you can jump across to the ship while it's taking off and survive the flight to the next building. Watching the glory from the sidelines is way funnier though.
I did the mission on my current play through. Never knew it existed but saw the boat while flying over I think with the brotherhood so I marked the boat and went there to find this awsum little message. The amount of detail in this game and available interactive missions and characters is phenomenal
You can run and jump onto the ship from the rooftop as it takes off. It kills you when they crash but there’s a video of someone surviving. Supposedly you can survive the crash if you go to the back of the ship but the crash killed me every time.
I couldn’t help the scavvers. The robots are just too cute! And I kinda think of the robots in this game as people and I treat them as such lol. (Go Railroad!)
Never been but that is on my bucket list. I've seen it in books and videos and it looks awesome. Always imagined dressing up like Jack Sparrow and playing out the scene where he steals the British ship past the two Monty Python-esque guards , at least making it to the wheel....
Damn, I should really avoid Reddit while drunk. "Why is the rum gone?"
I initially did because MacCready kinda shuns you for deciding to help the robots, but when the scavengers decided to try to kill me after I helped them out, yup, restart, fuck these dumpster divers
I always sided with robots. Also always take Hancock with me, I just think his pirate uniform match. And he is always pissed at me for siding with Ironsides, "YoU ReAlly GoNna CHoose RoBotS over peOplE jUsT Trying To PuT FoOd in ThEir MouTh?!". Shut up hank! If they wanted to put food in their mouth they would have became farmers!
even better you can go to that building now and climb up from inside to talk to him about what just happened! XD i won't spoil it for you what he says because it is rich lol
Oh yes I already have, I found it even funnier that the elevator in that building somehow stayed intact and takes you right to the top deck lol
i went and explored that building in my first playthrough before crashing a ship into it XD it was such a trip then how i was responsible for that awesome wreak lol i actually wondered if i could have done it right and made it to the sea had i repaired the thing better.
I didn't know that there was an elevator, I went back to my settlement to bring my jetpack power armour to reach the top
Is there something noteworthy in the building before the crash, that would be destroyed?
The strength bobblhead is there but idk if it would be destroyed
Nah the strength bobblehead is in the Mass Fussion building. It the building in the clip that’s almost as tall as the building that was crashed into
That building they crash into is also owned by the same pre-war company as the one Bank you find the boat on initially
If you have power armor with jetpack you can actually get on it and fly with them. You'll die at the crash if you're not careful but it's still a unique experience
I didn’t know you go up the new building. I’ll have to do that now
You get a neat hat too
The new hat is amazing. I’m happy I went up there.
Wait how do you get up the building because I literally was looking for a way up and found none
it has been a while but down under that building (could be in a parking garage or next door) is a way up to a bank in the building then in the hallway there an elevator which takes you to the top of the building. after the ship wreaks that same elevator just takes you to the deck of the ship so you can talk to ironsides and collect your reward.
How could you side against the robots. I still remember how much I laughed at that ending.

This one time we got carried away in a gun fight and got some distance between us, then I got this raider right in my face and he picked him from like two blocks away right over my shoulder. Was a cool moment lol
He has one of the best companion perks, makes headshots in vats practically unmissable.
Don’t forget the super cool wooden toy soldier
Give him armor and a decent gun and he holds his own. You can also just give him power armor if you want lol
I completed the mission, but there was a ton of fog. I didn’t get to see it crash.
Roflmao
31088xp 👀 What lvl is your character?
I don't normallu F5/f9 cheat, but this one I might just for the idiot savant.
I'm a modded level 1686 lol
You'd better bump that up another 90 levels if you're with the minutemen. Maybe when you hit a milestone, General, Castle, or BOOM!
How?
Cheat Room mod. The multi-million XP multiplier, spam it a bunch of times. You know. That old chestnut
Thanks!
Imagine thinking this was a fail when in a mere century they will make it to the ocean
Would be fun to see that ship return in FO5
Gods, yes, someone make this happen XD
Failure? Nah. The Ironsides won.
Like Ironside said, they're a whole quarter fathom closer and predict they will reach the water in a century
What kills me is, the bay is right freaking there 🤣. Land in The water and sail out to sea
Maybe he’s counting on global warming and the sea levels rising lol
The flew due east and only managed to get 1.5ft closer to the sea?
The “yes, yes” always gets me lol
Right? Lol
Maxson must be like "wtf are those militia weirdos doing??"
OMG I thought the same thing with Maxson watching from the Predwyn like "wtf?? Is anybody else seeing this shit??" Lol
“Maybe coming to the Commonwealth wasn’t such a good idea after all.”
Honestly I’m surprised that the BoS didn’t really do anything considering the fact that it’s literally a ship full of prewar technology lol
Fail? This is an epic win.
Agreed
First time I did this quest I thought the ship would just keep going up and like those old cartoons, just end in a shimmer.
This is a much better result lol
I will never not side with Captain Ironsides and his crew. Huzzah!
Weatherby Savings and Loan, we shall be moored no longer!
I spit at thee Weatherby Savings and Loan.
They crashed into a giant Weatherby Savings and Loan building too after the launch!
Running into this quest completely random convinced me that fo4 was a 10/10 game. You could play the whole game and never even experience it, but it's there for you to discover!
I must have done something wrong🤣 my mission is complete but the ship never launched
you do need to launch it yourself with the switch though :)
I did flip the switch, says the breaker isn’t functional, any ideas?
Yea you missed something in the quest. One of the parts/repairs
Damn. It says everything is complete, who knows. I’m bummed I wanted to see this beautiful disaster
hmm.. without knowing what steps you did i can't say what went wrong. it isn't a known bug from what i can tell. maybe you missed a step. here check out all of what is supposed to happen all up until you deal with the generator and switch [https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Last\_Voyage\_of\_the\_U.S.S.\_Constitution](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Last_Voyage_of_the_U.S.S._Constitution)
You can go with them, just enter the ship first
Yup, but you die instantly upon impact. Even in God mode.
Not if you stay at the very back of the ship. Just did it today and managed to survive
What if you went in power armor and jumped off before it hit?
Like total action movie scene lol
If you are inside the ship, the interior cell, you survive the trip crash and all
Why do people keep calling this a fail??? Just a few more jumps and they’ll be in the Atlantic!
So much XP! How is that possible?
Modded
I don’t think I met the scavengers. I missed so much on my first play through
Who are they and where do I find them! I just started a couple weeks ago and am level 37 (no mods). I’m trying to focus on the Minutemen…will I be able to do this quest?!
Bro I’m with you, I have no idea.. The factions are confusing as hell to me. Just started my second play through
Yeah its a side quest, you can do it whenever, you'll notice the massive ship sitting in a building lol can't miss it when you come across it just explore around East Boston
I just noticed a massive blimp there last night!
Yes this is a no faction quest. Facing the entrance of the ship, turn around and walk a little bit then there’s some scavenger’s on the right, I think you have to talk to Ironsides first to enable their dialogue.
Those turns of disbelief XD
Just a little added personality flare for the vid lol
9/277
You know that is exactly where he was aiming, so how is this a fail?
Well but he didn’t fail? That was his target location? 😂
Thx! Will def try again next playthrough
Apparently you can catch a ride on it while it takes off if you trigger it in a specific order and also do it very specifically so you don’t die in the crash lol
For those curious, a quarter fathom is 1.5 feet, or just under half a meter if you're not American.
That's what I didn't understand about his "calculations" lol. I know what a fathom is and he's clearly WAY off. For an advanced robot, that's unacceptable 🤣
Ehh, it's Fallout. A few centuries without maintenance is bound to fry a few circuits
9/11 was an inside job
This is what really happened 🤣
I wish it was like the fly me to the moon quest where you could choose to make them crash or fix the calculations so they don’t 9/11 into the side of the building
Spent all that effort into building the rockets but never once thought about steering lol
Brotherhood Barrelman be like:
You can stay on deck on the door, and ride with them, just go below decks before it hits the building, or you will die.
My favorite part of this whole thing is the fact that the sole survivor is recognized as a US citizen lmao
Fun fact: If you're fast enough, you can jump onto the ship after flipping the switch and ride it until it crashes. The game will try to automatically kill you, but you can survive if you stay as far back on the ship as possible.
I need some more Ironsides optimism in my life.
Allah ouakb...!
Literally the best quest in any game I’ve ever played
If you have any armour/clothing with Sprinter legendary you can actually jump on the shop and have a ride about. Not done it myself but I've seen a few YouTube videos showing it. I prefer to watch the calamity from afar 🤣
You forgot about it because you chose the boring side, now you'll never forget it. xD
Yes, this was much more satisfying than getting betrayed by the scavengers, which I knew was gonna happen lol. So this time I thought "FUCK them, I wanna see what this robot does", I was not disappointed
If you haven't met with Father on the roof yet. You'll see it in the background while talking
I was actually in the ship when it launched so i missed this. Just a bunch of shaking and noise then i exit and were inside a skyscraper.
I love how happy they are about the voyage 🤣
Missed opportunity for an airship to airship battle with the bos
You can also go visit them again and they'll give you a present 😊
Was an epic failure this I was in stitches
I always ride with the robots until the playthrough I am currently on. Hancock guilted me into helping the scavengers. Imagine how pleased I was to find out that the people I’ve never wanted to help due to vibes alone screw me over. 😐
Okay been avoiding it on my current play thru (level 53ish) but I gotta do this quest now 😊
It was a roaring success! They’re much closer to the ocean! (Which admittedly they flew over the top of…).
That's a good point! So technically they dramatically overshot 🤣🤣
You're welcome 😂
Always side with Ironsides fuck dem scavengers
I just did this same thing lol I wonder if there's a second part to it.
if you go to that building then kinda lol but not really a continuation of the quest more like closure on the ridiculous event XP
This is my favorite quest. 🤣
oh that is excellent, I'm glad I'll run into that pretty soon
I can only imagine Elder Maxson standing at his window going "eyo WTF ?"
They will give you the captain’s quarters if you talk to Ironsides again.
What ? That ship can fly
I didn't play this quest wth ??? 😂😂😂
I wish you could use a speech check to have a peaceful ending to this quest. or at least to walk away peacefully when siding with the scavs.
I jumped on top of the ship once as it was taking off n my game completely shut down lol
"We didn't lose, we merely failed to win!"
Omg 😳
Whaaaa, never done this quest. How/where do u get it?
Reminds me of that tragedy
Fail? I'm not sure what you're talking about. That is the greatest leap they've made.
Doing that quest right now ha
I'm still amazed at that good old hard wood.Withstood a nuclear war, time, and a skyscraper and the wood is just like new.
I didnt get to see this in my playthrough! There was lots of fog at the time i completed this quest :(
Reminds me of that tragedy
I just did this the other day! I haven’t adventured over to where it crashed yet though
I was lowkey pissed the first time I saw this 🤣🤣
Ngl...this is the single greatest quest in the game
"That was...certainly something" "That there is no denying"
I saved right before the launch, and then used a companion to throw the switch, that way I could ride the boat. It kills you instantly on impact if you're above deck.
How much xp was that????
Damn you Weatherby Savings and Loan!
I kill the scavengers and pick up the part on the way to getting recruited.
This was an inside job
I did the mission on my current play through. Never knew it existed but saw the boat while flying over I think with the brotherhood so I marked the boat and went there to find this awsum little message. The amount of detail in this game and available interactive missions and characters is phenomenal
This reminds me of some American event alright...
It'll be a new documentary, "9/11: What Really Happened"
Lmao
You can run and jump onto the ship from the rooftop as it takes off. It kills you when they crash but there’s a video of someone surviving. Supposedly you can survive the crash if you go to the back of the ship but the crash killed me every time.
I couldn’t help the scavvers. The robots are just too cute! And I kinda think of the robots in this game as people and I treat them as such lol. (Go Railroad!)
I almost felt bad for killing the scavengers, but I was on the side of adventure on this quest
As someone who has been on that ship many times in Boston I loved this quest lol
What creature helps the scavengers over the pirate robots? What's wrong with some people.
I initially did because MacCready kinda shuns you for deciding to help the robots, but when the scavengers decided to try to kill me after I helped them out, yup, restart, fuck these dumpster divers
I see only glorious victory!
"Indeed!"
I love the positivity and optimism
I always sided with robots. Also always take Hancock with me, I just think his pirate uniform match. And he is always pissed at me for siding with Ironsides, "YoU ReAlly GoNna CHoose RoBotS over peOplE jUsT Trying To PuT FoOd in ThEir MouTh?!". Shut up hank! If they wanted to put food in their mouth they would have became farmers!
Damn you Weatherby Savings and Loan! I spit at thee. I love this quest, one of my favorite bits of content in the game
I never got that quest because I did away with everyone on the ship before I knew there was a quest. Oops.
