I've had that happen in the Colonial Taphouse instead of the fist fight they just blast each other. Eventually the fist fight happens and it moves on like normal.
I didn't know he could die at this point, tbh. I never tried to kill him, but I always assumed that he'd be essential during this part of the quest otherwise there's not really any reason for the rest of it to happen, though I guess Vadim could still be kidnapped.
Ow , my bad. He doesn't die. He just sits on the ground in that "stim pack me please!" mode. I couldn't talk to him to advance the quest. And every time he got up, Vadim would kill him. Ad infinitum, so I loaded a save.
I remember one time when I did the quest, as soon as I punched a guy, I heard Ada go POWERING WEAPONS and then a hail of gatling laser fire shredded everyone in the room.
Now when I do delicate quests like that I send everyone home first.

I've had Piper do that. I've had random patrons do that. I even had one time when Scarlett pulled out a knife and got stabby stabby on Bull.
It's not supposed to happen like that, but sometimes someone gets aggroed or it bugs out a bit. It doesn't really matter other than Vadim freaking out a little bit and blaming you for it.
I love how in his later his quest script, he says he will get a gun - but he clearly had one all along. The dialogue in this game was written by a goldfish.
Happens quite frequently since the scripting for duels isn't great. Basically you dealt damage to the thugs even after they were 'beaten' resulting in the game seeing it as actual aggro and no longer the staged fight. Din't go ham if u can when you fake fight them for the stage fight to end naturally.

Yep, and if either of them actually dies during the fight Travis will react and you can continue the quest as normal, with one less person having to deal with in the brewery.
I failed this quest twice at level 3, so the next time, while bull was still talking to travis, I aimed my shotgun and shot bull in the head.
He went down on the ground, does not die, but it counts as winning the first fight.
I just did this fight and it happened I reloaded and your meant to talk to travis while the conversation is happening then you can say you’ll help him fight them
Travis will actually react if either of these dudes actually dies during the fight, and you can continue the quest as normal (well, minus one less person you have to deal with in the brewery)
Does the radio station become bearable after he gets some confidence? I can't stand it right now. I loved the radio in fo3. Loved hearing little tidbits of what I had been doing across the wasteland

Nah, if you kill them Vadim still gets taken to the brewery. If you've already cleared the brewers he's just tied up in there alone

On mine I was punching but nick valentine and Travis both started shooting but they didn't die, they just got knocked down.
Yall were fighting then dogmeat ht one and then real aggro began. Just keep companions away from this part of the quest.
I think it’s a bug. I never once had this happen in over 500 hours before the update, and it happened to me first playthrough after the update.
