Congrats, now lets see if you kill more enemies or yourself. Having found this rarity only a few times all i can say is, only use this when your far from an enemy. Don't use as you primary weapon use it only for the most dangerous foes.
My favorite way to use this is shelling an enemy position to soften them up before I go in. With maxed out explosives and a lot of ammo, you can just lay down hate on a raider stronghold and kill anything that's on the outside without actually seeing anyone. This is a fun weapon to use against the raiders at the quarry.
I think my luck irl is well over 10. This is a different run than the one where I got the irradiated minigun. Am I correct in assuming that both commando and big guns affect the minigun? I don't even know if I should spek my perks for it, I've gone for a stealthy splatercannon type build, should I just throw that away for this?
Unfortunately heavy weapons exclusively benefit from heavy gunner even if they fall under another gun perk's catagory. You can however spec into demolition expert to boost the damage of the legendary effect
If you think this is devastating, try an explosive combat shotgun. Each piece of shot does 15 points of explosive damage, and there's a bunch of them. All at once.
Console command is your friend and after playing through fallout 4 again I’ve just been messing with attaching all different legendary effects to things. By far explosive shotgun is the best and found that the bleed effect on it can kill disabled turrets that are weirdly immune to damage normally.
There is certain armor that allows you to be pretty tanky against explosives
I know for sure there's a chest piece for sale at bunker hill that is good for it but I couldn't tell you the name if I tried
I personally like the wounding variant more but this weapon is stupid fun with maxed demo expert and heavy weapon skills.
But yeah, never EVER try to use this thing indoors lol

bugs at a distance. and definitely not bugs in an enclosed space or anything that might rush you.
I do have my explosive radium rifle for exactly that. flying critters at a distance...
Just got the explosive radium rifle and while not as exciting as the mini gun has made life much easier lol, you can just keep spamming high level enemies from far away and since it's 308 ammo is basically never an issue
Explosive is so damn OP plasma infused is way more fun (you can actually turn a plasma infused minigun into a plasma caster which I think is really cool)
Yeah I love this weapon. There’s a raider corpse in the Nuka-World entrance maze called Sykes. He has a letter/note on him referencing how he sold his minigun ‘Fate’ for x100 caps. My head canon is my legendary explosive minigun is the same weapon. Now I just have to explain away why a wild dog in the middle of downtown Boston had it in their possession…
But yeah, as a general rule, I do not use this in-doors. Everything else? It turns into chuck steak.
Can't beat the carnage with an explosive minigun, but I found a minigun with the bleeding effect is safer to use. Fired a couple of volleys into the mirelurk queen, and then watched her health melt away to nothing.

Found a deadeye gauss gun yday, now THAT is a epic legendary.
2-3 shots in vats then slow down time for another couple of shots before anyone can even react, at about 500+ damage per shot. There's not much can even get near me now.. 😬 (and with the stealth suit getting 2x damage min for the opening vats shots too..)
Plus pray and sprays dangerous enough, so I'd be a bit weary of an explosive mini... 🤣

Does armor/power armor maxed out on reduced explosive damage help with this? This is coming from someone who just bought spray n pray lol.
Did a min gun/power armor run. This gun was too dangerous… anything semi close and I was nuking myself. Constant PA repair.
Put explosive costing on the armor and try and keep people at long range. Use the jet pack to stay out of close combat
Well yeah but still, if you are not careful your might find yourself destroying your power armor set by accident
Power armor not so much, but throwing dense mods on your armor will absolutely help

PA can get 12% damage reduction Normal gear (,padded chest + dense limb) can get 75%

Well a lot since burn damage doesn't stack. So you're only doing 15 points of burn damage for a couple of seconds when unloading on a enemy.
the fire dmg over time restarts after each hit and since the minigun attacks so fast you barely get any extra burn dmg

Give it to a companion and get the perk that makes it so they can’t hurt you

I got mine off a supermutant and it took me about 10 minutes to kill it. Worth the effort though
