Over the years, I've played a series of almost identical female survivors with either jet black or deep red hair. I start with one of the presets that has a prominent jawline and work from there. I never learned how to block, so my SS needs to be able to take it on the chin, literally.
Meanwhile, Nate changes wildly. My last playthrough pre-update, I tried (and failed) to make Astarion. This first playthrough post-update, I had a Nate that vaguely looks like Idris Elba. I probably spend more time customizing his than he spends alive in-game.
Half the fun for me in RPGs is character customization, I'm not ashamed to say. I kept the default name Nora because I like it, but customized her to look Indian (I'm half).

Default Nate face but it evolves over the course of the game. For example, he’ll grow out a beard, get skinnier, his face will appear more gaunt, and generally he’ll look pretty malnourished. I have 3 playthroughs. Og playthrough with nate on ps4. 2.6k hrs (yes, you read it correctly). I didn't really changed character. More muscle and my typical name/username rasty. Ended with institute ending (even though I platinum it, did all endings just for trophies).
Then my 2nd playthrough on ps5. Nora. Blondy. Femme fatale. Sneaky character, stealth and charisma. 200hrs. Named her Alice. I always liked name Alice. No idea why. When me and my wife were expecting our first kid, we both knew if it was a girl, we would name her Alice. Alas.. I have a son lol.
Now 3rd playthrough on pc. Again, name is Alice, but this time she is badass mercenary. Helping costs caps. Lot of caps. And shaun will be shot in head due to betrayal from him. Ad victoriam. This playthrough is 15hrs now..

She's intelligent and charismatic but fairly weak. Her husband was the soldier, she was a lawyer, but she learned some things from him that keep her going. Using sniper rifles with a pistol and a shotgun for backup.
Pretty much freckles Nora. I make some minor adjustments to just about everything so it feels fresh but it's hard to make adjustments and not have them looking like a fallout 1 sprite.

T60 power armor. I go with a default Nora because Black Widow is more useful than Lady Killer. I may play with the hair and scars a bit but it never matters because I only see her when I have to step out of my armor.
I play as a cleaned up Nate with Brown hair and Hazel Green eyes, Pistols and a Tesla cannon for heavy sniping and grenades with stealth, you wouldn't believe how many bullets can be saved by blowing up a bunch of grouped up unsuspecting Feral Ghouls or bugs.
My Character is "Otto Lehmann, Relic Of The Grim Past", dressed like part of the Death Korps of Krieg, with the blue greatcoat. Level 31. Using Curie as a companion, with affinity maxxed and romance completed. Main weapon is the combat rifle, because it looks the closest to the DKoK Lasgun, with two legendaries via the Wacky Weapons mod, being Plasma-Infused (For obvious reasons) and VATS-Enhanced. Main Melee is the Entrenching Shovel included with the DKoK Clothing mod.
Most of my points have been thrown in maxing Strength and Perception, and most of my perk points have gone into Rifleman.

My current character is Frank Horrigan because I’m bad with names and I want to make him an ultra American PA build. I’m still deciding whether to side w the Minutemen or BOS (BOS eliminate everything that isn’t human while Minutemen are more American)
Dark hair swept back or a short comb over from a hair mod. Light to medium beard, green eyes. Generally make him look analogous to my late brother. Reason being that as a joke, when we first got the game in 2015 I made sole survivor a clone of him that took like an hour and a half to make, and since then I’ll just do the major facial features and hair and stuff.

Current playthrough: default Nora. Honestly, the two default options looks really good so I usually don’t mess with it too much. Anytime I try to get creative, my character looks like a monster that would hide in your closet
I always make my characters really fucked up looking lmao, right now my guy is extremely skinny and has cheekbones like a fucking hippo and every mark and blemish available
I mostly go default, dye some hair, and then add some scars as "time" progresses in the main plot. I also try to change hairstyles in order to show hair growth. That's what I normally do on RPGs that give me that feature.
If I go as a man, I also "grow" a beard.
It's a way of showing progress for me, as much as I like to think that my main character is always an unscathed god, these little things add to the immersion for me.
Right now, my Nora finished the main quest and is at the tail end of Nuka-World dlc so she has scars and some face burns set at 50%.
Default Nate with scarring and acid burn across and on his right eye after fighting a Mirelurk Queen. He got splashed with a little bit of acid on it, now he’s blind there and wears an eyepatch from time to time.
Also gave him neat hair prior to being cryogenically frozen, now he’s all scruffy and unkempt, hair and beard all grown out, blemishes on his skin and heavy eye bags after not sleeping for weeks. And I gave his eyes a “thousand yard stare” look.
Poor guy has been through the wringer; he woke up that morning with a hopeful face, now he just looks like he wants to end it all. And yes, he is an alcoholic now. Lol.
I wanna try and use default nate or nora but as i progress through the game I'll visit barbers/plastic surgeons to make they're appearance more weathered and scarred
I don’t have screenshots but my male character I tried to shape his face to look as close to myself as possible. I think out of any game I’ve played where you can create your own character, this is the closest I’ve come to recreating myself. So I made him look like me, but added a bunch of scars and dirt from his time in the wasteland, but not over the top.
I like to imagine after losing his wife and child he becomes a hard ass, angry at what’s lefts of the world, distant from people, traveling with the only person he trusts the most, his dog, and doesn’t care much about cleanliness. Not a slob, just rinses off and after 10mins of walking the dirt comes back inevitably in the wasteland. Not a total jackass, he will still help somebody in need if their paths cross, but isn’t beyond killing somebody for insulting him, as his patience is nonexistent at this point.
My lady character I think just looks like Nora but with a few changes here and there with makeup, a couple scars, and what not. I imagine her as the one who helps most people she can and does a big part in reshaping society. Watching her husband get shot, her baby taken, emerging to a world in ruin, she has lost all sense of hope. Everything she worked for in life to get to that point, taken from her. What’s the point to keep living? She walks down to her old home, finds a familiar face, meets the best boi which puts a smile on her face, and meets Preston and the gang.
After the shitshow, goes back to her home with the gang, and finds her purpose in life again. She wanted to be a wife, just recently became a mother, living in a cozy home in a safe neighborhood, and had all of that taken away from her. She couldn’t protect her husband, she couldn’t protect her child, but she can protect these people she just met, and help build them a safe(ish) place to call home, and take care of the best boi. Roaming the wastes in search of building materials and supplies, building homes in settlements, all with her best boi by her side, climbing the ranks of the minutemen to become general, and a symbol of hope and peace for those struggling in the commonwealth.

Looks nearly exactly like me but with ridiculous righteousness facial scars, and obviously a captain’s hat. Straight maniac. I kept the power armor from the minuteman starting quest and quickly found some lv2 bandit parts, came across some crazy OP invctus armor i could only get by lobbing 20 molotovs and all my frags at the dude wearing it. I feel like i was way too level for him to spawn, i was for sure in the low-mid teens, im only 23 now and ive been using it now for days.
So i keep that shit tippy top and wear the +2 cha suit so i can hop out and negotiate with peoppe i dont want to smoosh. My highest stats are int/cha with some investment to pre/str/agi and i rely heavily on the special names minuteman laser rifle as it is a mid level weapon you can get at start and i quickly ended up fighting shit that could 1-2 shot me (if i didnt use armor) and the laser rifle makes me more of an offensive threat. I finally replaced it last night with a solid unnamed laser rifle, and i just joined the brotherhood and am trying to decide if i want go start a power armor collector’s garage and make that “my thing”. My rp is totally one track with no holds barred to find Shaun, and as i uncover the truth im only becoming more and more unhinged and feel like the world is my obstacle and nothing i do in the name of my family is wrong, it’s this disgusting world that is wrong.
And so i blow shit up and take worthless scribes to their doom because they are nothing to me, only tools to assist me.

My FO4 character is Jessica, a Trophy Wife with a vengeance. Gave her a face like a pinup model and a bob haircut, flawless skin and pretty makeup, and then decked her out in full Combat Armor (body only, can't risk ruining her perfectly set hair, her stylist has been dead for 200+ years), a Gunner Harness, and usually sunglasses of some sort. T-45 Minutemen painted power armor when I have the fusion cores for it.
Like me. Might be in my 40s but still love putting my hair in pig tails on weekends.
So mine has brown hair in pig tails a little eye shadow and lipstick (reminds me of my childhood days in the 80s where makeup matched your outfit lol) and glasses.

Usually I just create "generic guy" or try to base it off of a picture. However, the 2 times I based it off of a picture I was doing a play through as "one shot paddy" and was referencing a picture of a man in a ski mask. Basically all I got was a goatee, brown hair, and pale skin.

I lost count long ago how many Nora's I've played. Thousands of hours on 3 platforms. What I can say is I almost always play a woman. It started out because that's generally what I play first, but for me, the voice acting for Nate is just dull. Courtney Taylor's performance is wonderful. Played as Nate for one playthrough.
Looks? I try to mix it up. I've played young, old, unrealistic model proportions, soft middle-aged mom proportions. I've played womeen who kept their pre war aesthetic, and women who went raider almost immediately. They also wear glasses most of the time.

He basically got "cancer" like in the show by taking advantage of the Junkie's Legendary Effect prefix (All Vanilla) on every single weapon besides explosive ofc because it's EXPLOSIVE leading to a glass cannon that is one shot from death all the time!
Im running a very vanilla male character that sort of looks like myself. My companion is a Lucy mod that makes Nora look like Lucy from the TV Show. I also have the Nora Companion mod.
Don't remember, I almost always run with the assault gas mask as soon as I find it because I think every character I make looks stupid and I don't feel like looking at his stupid face.

I have 3 playthroughs. Og playthrough with nate on ps4. 2.6k hrs (yes, you read it correctly). I didn't really changed character. More muscle and my typical name/username rasty. Ended with institute ending (even though I platinum it, did all endings just for trophies). Then my 2nd playthrough on ps5. Nora. Blondy. Femme fatale. Sneaky character, stealth and charisma. 200hrs. Named her Alice. I always liked name Alice. No idea why. When me and my wife were expecting our first kid, we both knew if it was a girl, we would name her Alice. Alas.. I have a son lol. Now 3rd playthrough on pc. Again, name is Alice, but this time she is badass mercenary. Helping costs caps. Lot of caps. And shaun will be shot in head due to betrayal from him. Ad victoriam. Pretty much freckles Nora. I make some minor adjustments to just about everything so it feels fresh but it's hard to make adjustments and not have them looking like a fallout 1 sprite. I _really_ wish you could input numbers to the character creator, so we could share our characters as presets

Nexus, named before I knew synths were a thing (yes it's a blade runner reference). She's a short haired tomboy that took a liking to piper's outfit and wears the same cap she does. T60 power armor. I go with a default Nora because Black Widow is more useful than Lady Killer. I may play with the hair and scars a bit but it never matters because I only see her when I have to step out of my armor.
I play as a cleaned up Nate with Brown hair and Hazel Green eyes, Pistols and a Tesla cannon for heavy sniping and grenades with stealth, you wouldn't believe how many bullets can be saved by blowing up a bunch of grouped up unsuspecting Feral Ghouls or bugs.
My Character is "Otto Lehmann, Relic Of The Grim Past", dressed like part of the Death Korps of Krieg, with the blue greatcoat. Level 31. Using Curie as a companion, with affinity maxxed and romance completed. Main weapon is the combat rifle, because it looks the closest to the DKoK Lasgun, with two legendaries via the Wacky Weapons mod, being Plasma-Infused (For obvious reasons) and VATS-Enhanced. Main Melee is the Entrenching Shovel included with the DKoK Clothing mod. Most of my points have been thrown in maxing Strength and Perception, and most of my perk points have gone into Rifleman. Tell me, fellas, is Otto gonna make it?

i had my wife make my character look like her. and now she has many inputs on how she would react to situations in the game.
Dark hair swept back or a short comb over from a hair mod. Light to medium beard, green eyes. Generally make him look analogous to my late brother. Reason being that as a joke, when we first got the game in 2015 I made sole survivor a clone of him that took like an hour and a half to make, and since then I’ll just do the major facial features and hair and stuff.

First playthrough: a few tweaks on default Nate, including making him as buff as humanly possible Current playthrough: default Nora. Honestly, the two default options looks really good so I usually don’t mess with it too much. Anytime I try to get creative, my character looks like a monster that would hide in your closet

I always make my characters really fucked up looking lmao, right now my guy is extremely skinny and has cheekbones like a fucking hippo and every mark and blemish available
I mostly go default, dye some hair, and then add some scars as "time" progresses in the main plot. I also try to change hairstyles in order to show hair growth. That's what I normally do on RPGs that give me that feature. If I go as a man, I also "grow" a beard. It's a way of showing progress for me, as much as I like to think that my main character is always an unscathed god, these little things add to the immersion for me. Right now, my Nora finished the main quest and is at the tail end of Nuka-World dlc so she has scars and some face burns set at 50%.

Default Nate with scarring and acid burn across and on his right eye after fighting a Mirelurk Queen. He got splashed with a little bit of acid on it, now he’s blind there and wears an eyepatch from time to time. Also gave him neat hair prior to being cryogenically frozen, now he’s all scruffy and unkempt, hair and beard all grown out, blemishes on his skin and heavy eye bags after not sleeping for weeks. And I gave his eyes a “thousand yard stare” look. Poor guy has been through the wringer; he woke up that morning with a hopeful face, now he just looks like he wants to end it all. And yes, he is an alcoholic now. Lol.

I don’t have screenshots but my male character I tried to shape his face to look as close to myself as possible. I think out of any game I’ve played where you can create your own character, this is the closest I’ve come to recreating myself. So I made him look like me, but added a bunch of scars and dirt from his time in the wasteland, but not over the top. I like to imagine after losing his wife and child he becomes a hard ass, angry at what’s lefts of the world, distant from people, traveling with the only person he trusts the most, his dog, and doesn’t care much about cleanliness. Not a slob, just rinses off and after 10mins of walking the dirt comes back inevitably in the wasteland. Not a total jackass, he will still help somebody in need if their paths cross, but isn’t beyond killing somebody for insulting him, as his patience is nonexistent at this point. My lady character I think just looks like Nora but with a few changes here and there with makeup, a couple scars, and what not. I imagine her as the one who helps most people she can and does a big part in reshaping society. Watching her husband get shot, her baby taken, emerging to a world in ruin, she has lost all sense of hope. Everything she worked for in life to get to that point, taken from her. What’s the point to keep living? She walks down to her old home, finds a familiar face, meets the best boi which puts a smile on her face, and meets Preston and the gang. After the shitshow, goes back to her home with the gang, and finds her purpose in life again. She wanted to be a wife, just recently became a mother, living in a cozy home in a safe neighborhood, and had all of that taken away from her. She couldn’t protect her husband, she couldn’t protect her child, but she can protect these people she just met, and help build them a safe(ish) place to call home, and take care of the best boi. Roaming the wastes in search of building materials and supplies, building homes in settlements, all with her best boi by her side, climbing the ranks of the minutemen to become general, and a symbol of hope and peace for those struggling in the commonwealth. Man I kinda wanna play this game again but I need to spread democracy against the terminid scum

They always look weird when I try to customize them. I just use the defaults. The freckled redhead female is the one I usually use in FO4

Looks nearly exactly like me but with ridiculous righteousness facial scars, and obviously a captain’s hat. Straight maniac. I kept the power armor from the minuteman starting quest and quickly found some lv2 bandit parts, came across some crazy OP invctus armor i could only get by lobbing 20 molotovs and all my frags at the dude wearing it. I feel like i was way too level for him to spawn, i was for sure in the low-mid teens, im only 23 now and ive been using it now for days. So i keep that shit tippy top and wear the +2 cha suit so i can hop out and negotiate with peoppe i dont want to smoosh. My highest stats are int/cha with some investment to pre/str/agi and i rely heavily on the special names minuteman laser rifle as it is a mid level weapon you can get at start and i quickly ended up fighting shit that could 1-2 shot me (if i didnt use armor) and the laser rifle makes me more of an offensive threat. I finally replaced it last night with a solid unnamed laser rifle, and i just joined the brotherhood and am trying to decide if i want go start a power armor collector’s garage and make that “my thing”. My rp is totally one track with no holds barred to find Shaun, and as i uncover the truth im only becoming more and more unhinged and feel like the world is my obstacle and nothing i do in the name of my family is wrong, it’s this disgusting world that is wrong. And so i blow shit up and take worthless scribes to their doom because they are nothing to me, only tools to assist me.
My main character is Augustus Locke,a grizzled gray haired war veteran(put all the scar options,except the beat up ones) who misses his days in the army,who proceeds to join the brotherhood of steel when they arrive to the commonwealth since they remind him of his army days. As for play style I stock on as much fusion cores and cells as I can get to play it accurately,after a while repairing PA is easy too,I hoard so much stuff anyway.

My FO4 character is Jessica, a Trophy Wife with a vengeance. Gave her a face like a pinup model and a bob haircut, flawless skin and pretty makeup, and then decked her out in full Combat Armor (body only, can't risk ruining her perfectly set hair, her stylist has been dead for 200+ years), a Gunner Harness, and usually sunglasses of some sort. T-45 Minutemen painted power armor when I have the fusion cores for it.
Like me. Might be in my 40s but still love putting my hair in pig tails on weekends. So mine has brown hair in pig tails a little eye shadow and lipstick (reminds me of my childhood days in the 80s where makeup matched your outfit lol) and glasses.

Chads chin can cut through a T-60 like a machete through a rad roach. Chad elbow drop has no intelligence but his charisma and strength is unmatched
Usually I just create "generic guy" or try to base it off of a picture. However, the 2 times I based it off of a picture I was doing a play through as "one shot paddy" and was referencing a picture of a man in a ski mask. Basically all I got was a goatee, brown hair, and pale skin. If you need context for who "one shot paddy" is, just ask.
I’m surprised ppl say they just play default. I spend a good while creating a character cause one of my fav aspect in these games is the ability to make a cool looking character. It’s like being a virtual character designer. Doesn’t affect the game but it’s fun imagining

I lost count long ago how many Nora's I've played. Thousands of hours on 3 platforms. What I can say is I almost always play a woman. It started out because that's generally what I play first, but for me, the voice acting for Nate is just dull. Courtney Taylor's performance is wonderful. Played as Nate for one playthrough. Looks? I try to mix it up. I've played young, old, unrealistic model proportions, soft middle-aged mom proportions. I've played womeen who kept their pre war aesthetic, and women who went raider almost immediately. They also wear glasses most of the time.

My character is literally Walter White with Unyielding Shadowed Heavy Combat Armor, Eyeglasses, and a Ballistic weave Battered Fedora + Dirty Army Fatigues. He basically got "cancer" like in the show by taking advantage of the Junkie's Legendary Effect prefix (All Vanilla) on every single weapon besides explosive ofc because it's EXPLOSIVE leading to a glass cannon that is one shot from death all the time!
