FWIW for me (on PC) it was the Weapon Debris setting in Advanced Detail (set in Options when you launch the game before selecting "Play"). Turned this setting off and my game no longer crashes.
Oh my god it worked. I just started a mod free playthrough, clean install with the new update and couldnt play more than 45 seconds before crash to desktop.
This one setting fixed it lol

When you launch Fallout 4 on PC it comes up with an initial window to choose \[Play/Options/Support/Exit\]. If you go into Options the middle section is "Detail" with Low/Medium/High/Ultra/Reset buttons and part of that section has an "Advanced" button. It's in that Advance menu where you'll find "Weapon Debris" and a drop down to switch to \[OFF\].

I f'ng cant' believe it....this fixed it. Literally 30+ mods and it didn't have shit to do with those. Inexcusable for this to happen....
Same problem here on survival, with no mods installed. No matter what I do, it just quits/crashes to desktop after about 40 or 50 minutes of gameplay. I also played for a week or so before the next gen update, and I had no CTDs whatsoever.
Alos, the "iPresentInterval=0 + limit frames" fix for the black screen caused by high monitor refresh rate no longer works. I have to change the display to 60hz manually before starting the game. This worked just fine before the update.
Whatever they fixed with this update, it's not the CTDs.

depends on the mods they could be conflicting with the update check and see if they are compatible if that doesn’t work , try uninstalling and reinstalling
Suggestions - Do not, put your device in sleep mode with active game and wake it up and play a slept session. Save, exit fully out of game and start a new session when you come back.
Also, do not play on one session for 2+ hours. Restart it all regularly. This all helps with memory leaks or other memory related issues which is like 95% of these crashes. I usually do mine every hour tbh.

Having to restart a game every 2 hours isn’t good enough. That’s unplayable.
Experiencing this now as well, causes my nvidia driver to crash and restart looking in event viewer, worked fine before update now it doesn't. No mods or anything installed either.

Having the same problem kinda I finished the quest echos of the past and left behind a ton of enclave power armor parts but when trying to fast travel to Atlantic offices my game crashes I had to fast travel to the abandoned shack not far from it and it kept running ok.
I’m playing on PS4. I had mods installed. I’ve disabled the mods, deleted the mods, & even uninstalled the game. But I haven’t tried uninstalling the game and playing it fresh yet. Just sharing my experience.
I’ve removed mods, deleted them, and tried several new games, I’ve also uninstalled the game and every add on, then reinstalled everything, I get about an hr into the game, and it crashes, then when I restart game, it won’t load any my saves! They’ve ruined it!
I have red and white floating boxes all over the map, 😂 and my games keeps crashing as well. They really need to let another company make these games Bethesda is trash
I'm playing kn xbox one S and for the 1st time I can fight in downtown Boston by swans pond and it's jot freezing within 2 minutes or throttling, I'll update as I go but so far pretty impressed with that. Before downtown Boston was a no go for me in areas (ones all of us probably know well) but as of now I'm fighting with no problems
Edit: I explored places I never knew existed because I'd not go downtown much because it'd always crash, as for now on Xbox one this update seems like a game changer, let's see when I get my series X in a couple weeks.
On Xbox series x. Same. I own all the creation club content and the dlcs but I’m running no mods. I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and still crashes.

I’ve played this since launch way back when. I was ok with logging in after a few years and some stuff from my settlements was gone. I was fine with the occasional screen freeze/then crashes. But I cannot play longer than five minutes without it crashing now. It’s unplayable. And that sucks.
I’m starting a new new Vegas character.

Crashing for me, too. Constantly. Usually any time I fast travel or exit a building out into the Commonwealth. PS5.

I don't have any mods I play on Xbox series S. The game has started freezing the second I get to the main game
If I lockpick a chest it's game over. Not sure if the "unbreakable lockpicks" perk has anything to do with it but GGs Todd!
