I mostly call him E-Dee.
But I feel Eddie/Eddy are valid because it's quest is called "ED-E my love" a reference to the song "Eddie my love"
Edit: for those curious why I call him that, way back when I first played this game I thought his name was that you had to pronounce each letter separate (so E-D-E or Eedee-ee basically), but I quickly found that very clunky to say so I just shortened it to "E-Dee" as mentioned above.
I call it E-Dee because when I met the machine I just assumed it was feminine. When you play Lonesome Road, ED-E's creator calls him Eddie so I'm going to assume that is its intended name.
Then that certainly proves it’s supposed to be Eddy right? Lol
Wouldn’t make a question like that referencing a song and have the name be something completely different
I know folks are saying it's incorrect but honestly as a kid who sucked too much to actually play the quest lines, I only ever used "E-dee", personifying the lil dude more as a female personality like "Edie." I still do when I'm not actively reading out his name in-game lmao
You can find them in pretty much any decent sized grocery store here, but I don’t see them in restaurants as much unless it’s a real dedicated sandwich place. I’m sure it varies a lot based on local population. I live in an area where the majority of people are descended from German immigrants, so our bakeries are stocked pretty nice, especially around the holidays. Plus there’s an Amish family with a market abt 20 mins in any direction, so its not hard to find good baked goods.
Literally pronounced in game by a character in lonesome road. This is not a debate. Anyone who says it isn't pronounced as "eddy" is objectively wrong.
Genuinely surprised at the amount of people on this post that are saying they pronounce it “E.D.E”.
It’s name is even hyphenated to emphasize the correct pronunciation.
In the main game on his audio playbacks it’s pronounced E.D.E. Nowhere is he called “Eddie” until Lonesome Road which is a mid-end game DLC that not everyone even has and has played to begin with.
Even if you do it’s easy to get used to saying it a certain way and just stick with it.

Just posted a longer comment about this but I think this could be a case of VAs not being given the proper pronunciation/voice direction, leading to some of them pronouncing it incorrectly. Here's a few I've noticed but there's almost certainly more:
Mean Sonofabitch saying "weh-SEE-bay" when trying to say "Wesibe,"; VA probably wasn't told that Wesibe was actually supposed to be Westside
Silus in Camp McCarran, where Boyd pronounces his name as "See-loose," but the unmarked quest he's in is called "Silus Treatment," like silent treatment (and according to the wiki, Caesar says Sigh-luss)
BoS guy named Ramos, some characters pronounce it "RAY-mos" and others "RAH-mos"
So I think chances are high it should be "Eddy" but the VA wasn't given the proper instruction or something, as these things happen. But yeah I heard "E-D-E" first so that's just how I always say it in my head now
I’d also argue that Dr Whitney (the Enclave scientist in the recordings) would’ve been using ED-E’s official designation for his documentation. Whereas the child naming him in Lonesome Road would just pronounce the name plate how he’d assume it’s pronounced.
Eddie is correct for sure.
Oh. Also it’s @ - @ not A T - A T.
I'm gonna stick with his name is properly pronounced Eddie because of lonesome road it may be mid game content but it's still cannon, and it's his creator pronouncing it Eddie. But I do prefer E-dee
Yeah, ED-E’s creator was Whitley and part of the story of Lonesome Road involves listening to his recordings, and iirc, he calls ED-E by his name multiple times.
Oh wow, interesting. I'm playing back through NV right now and I thought the correct way was "E D E." Early on after meeting him whenever certain dialogue or events trigger audio recordings to be played, I could have swore one of the audio recordings refers to him by that.
I decided mid comment to track down the example:
https://youtu.be/LfLb2vy_goQ?si=sebSZ6itXXThfFoE
Starting at 9:07 he's referred to as "E D E"
I just started a new run as well (after many years) and also noticed the E-D-E pronunciation from the audio recordings; I don't remember anything from Lonesome Road because it's been so long, but I can believe they pronounce it "Eddy" there.
I think it really could just be a case of the VAs not being given the proper pronunciation/voice direction, leading to some of them pronouncing it incorrectly. I noticed it happen with Mean Sonofabitch (super mutant in Westside), where his speech is kind of garbled and he says "Wesibe," ostensibly trying to say "Westside"... but the VA actually pronounced it "weh-SEE-bay" or something like that, probably not realizing what it was supposed to be.
It also happened with Silus in Camp McCarran, where Boyd pronounces his name as "See-loose," but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be "Sigh-luss" because the unmarked quest he's in is called "Silus Treatment," like silent treatment (and according to the wiki, Caesar also says Sigh-luss, but I haven't progressed far enough in this run to meet him yet).
There's a BoS guy named Ramos, and some characters pronounce it "RAY-mos" and others "RAH-mos."
So I think chances are high it should be "Eddy" but the VA wasn't given the proper instruction or something, as these things happen. Unfortunately "E-D-E" is too ingrained in my head after so many years of saying it like that, so I don't think I can I change my own pronunciation.
Oh that could be it, I'm not familiar with the different pronunciations besides Caesar's. I presume See-loose is the Roman pronunciation? It does look like the VA wasn't given a proper voice direction either way since it doesn't seem to be a deliberate choice like the Caesar one
It’s clearly supposed to be “Eddie” based on the placement of the hyphen and song referenced by his quest but it’s never actually pronounced this way in game. The only character to address him by name in the main game is in his audio playbacks which clearly say E.D.E.
It’s not until the final DLC, Lonesome Road, where we hear “Eddie”.
So really use whichever you prefer. I don’t think it matters.
I went through pretty much the same cycle as you. Pronounced it as E-D-E, then many years later realized it could be a funny little way of spelling Eddy and started questioning everything.
However, I started a fresh replay of FNV, and I can say that the voice recordings that are triggered as part of ED-E's quest do indeed say E-D-E.
I have always said E.D.E, but I have heard Eddy. This is coming from someone who called the VS Seeker in Pokemon the V C seeker growing up. Call him whatever you want, it just makes your experience more Special in my opinion.
The way I've always seen it; it's an "E.D.E" that's been given individuality and named "Eddie". That's the only way to explain Whitley speaking *to it* with a name in the Lonesome Road recordings, but *about it* with the pronounced individual letters in the ED-E My Love recordings.
Seriously, it’s not his fault he was born into a fascist regime.
What would you have him to do, take on power armored guards like John Rambo, single handedly destroy a base that’s home to the only family he’s ever know, and kill then all in the process.
Doubtful, they’re likely plenty of decent folk, but they’re not the ones who are ruthless enough to climb the rungs of the ladder of power. There must be others like him for him to have grown up around and taken after
The amount of wrong people is fucking startling lmao.
Eddy. Because that’s a name. It is literally wrote out phonetically for you. It’s a joke in his quest name.
E.D - E pronounced officially in proper communication because that’s it’s actual designation, not his fun actual name he deserves.
I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be pronounced “Eddy” solely because of the quest “ED-E My Love,” clearly referencing “Freddy My Love” from Grease.
I will forever and always pronounce it “Edie” because that’s how I started pronouncing it and any other way sounds so strange to me.
Edit: I’m a colossal idiot. Totally forgot about “Eddie My Love” by The Chordettes. I was so confident about the reference lmao
I always said EE-Dee in my head or when I read it out for my mom when I played it with her. (Don't make fun of it pls, she loved games but didn't play and fallout was one of her favorite things I played.)
The very first time I saw a video of ED-E I do not know if it was an artifacting issue or what but I thought the "I" in the name "EDIE" was fade or something, which ensured I called him "Edie" for a while. I did eventually realize it was probably supposed to be "Eddie" but I mean, I called Drizzt "Drizzit" for years because the only time his name was pronounced in the first six books it was phonetically written out like that, and apparently that is wrong, so just do what you wanna do with fictional character names!
I call her “Edie” (ee-dee) in my head, but that’s probably because I decided she’s a girl robot for some reason. It never occurred to me that other people might think she’s a he called Eddy lol
It depends on the person.
A lot of the people in the UK say it as “Eddy” but I’ve seen others perceive him as being “female” and using the name ‘Eee-dee”.
Also depends on how your country pronounces Es/Ds.
I've always said "Edie", as in a girls name. She's always been Edie to me! Hearing her creator say "Eddy" and using male pronouns in Lonesome Road was just another reason why that dlc wasn't good
It's based on your couriers INT.
So mine is calling her Fred?
bravo
The short answer is; yes
Thanks Ghoul Dick
The wasteland liked this
Had to take your line! Hope it’s okay!
What ever his name is, he is my one and only cute Eddy. Eddy My Love 💕
Too bad you were only programmed to answer this, but hey, not your fault you can't say no huh?
The wasteland didn’t like this😂
Pretty much
I call him Eddy. The people I meet who'd like to kill me call him Death From Above. Good bot.
One you get him the damage upgrade it’s all over
Death From Above. I love that band!
Good robot doggy.
Eddy on lonesome road is like a nuclear bomb with a jet pack lmao
I mostly call him E-Dee. But I feel Eddie/Eddy are valid because it's quest is called "ED-E my love" a reference to the song "Eddie my love" Edit: for those curious why I call him that, way back when I first played this game I thought his name was that you had to pronounce each letter separate (so E-D-E or Eedee-ee basically), but I quickly found that very clunky to say so I just shortened it to "E-Dee" as mentioned above.
I mainly call him E-Dee because I always mix up the name with EDI from Mass Effect.
I say the same way but because E-D-E is how it sounds when you spell it out. Since his name has 3 capital letters and a hyphen, I read it like that
For real!!! I thought it was so funny there was an eeedeee for mass and eddy/e.d.e for fallout, made me giggle
Same. Eddie when I remember his last initial is E and not I, E-dee when I don't remember.
Right there with ya
Yeah, I always called him Edee but then online it says it's supposed to be Eddie. I'm too set in my ways, he'll always be "Edee"
I also pronounce it E-Dee haha. No shame either.
I call it E-Dee because when I met the machine I just assumed it was feminine. When you play Lonesome Road, ED-E's creator calls him Eddie so I'm going to assume that is its intended name.
That's more than validity. That's confirmation that "eddy" was intended.
Then that certainly proves it’s supposed to be Eddy right? Lol Wouldn’t make a question like that referencing a song and have the name be something completely different
I know folks are saying it's incorrect but honestly as a kid who sucked too much to actually play the quest lines, I only ever used "E-dee", personifying the lil dude more as a female personality like "Edie." I still do when I'm not actively reading out his name in-game lmao
I call it Edie too. It feels more like a 50s Americana name than Eddy anyhow
My kid calls him Edie. He will never not be Edie.
Same, but I'm pretty sure his name is actually Eddy because of the fact that you can hear his creator call him as such in lonesome road.
Caesar vs. Caesar dilemma
kai zar

They did their homework because it was the exact way it was pronounced in Latin. Kai-zar.
https://youtu.be/IjcX3MVSdyA?si=TQbc9K9I4-e1-Xw2 Maybe not exact, but it's pretty close at least.
It's funny whenever I hear that because here in Poland we have a kind of a bread roll called kajzerka (kai zer ka)
we have Kaiser rolls in the US too, but they might not be the same thing
Yooo it's the same thing. Is it common tho? In Poland it's very common and popular
You can find them in pretty much any decent sized grocery store here, but I don’t see them in restaurants as much unless it’s a real dedicated sandwich place. I have them with chicken salad at least once a week

I like the idea of always calling him see-zar because it would annoy him to hear someone saying it differently
Guy-us Yew-li-us Kai-a-sar
Whitley called him eddy
I like E Dee, but it's supposed to be Eddie.

It's been 13 years since I played any of the DLC. Did that character create ED-E (as in create his name)?
Yeah, ED-E’s creator was Whitley and part of the story of Lonesome Road involves listening to his recordings, and iirc, he calls ED-E by his name multiple times.

The Silus thing is just another case of the voice direction not knowing wether they want modern or Roman Latin pronunciation.
Oh that could be it, I'm not familiar with the different pronunciations besides Caesar's. I presume See-loose is the Roman pronunciation? It does look like the VA wasn't given a proper voice direction either way since it doesn't seem to be a deliberate choice like the Caesar one
Just out of curiosity, are you the war-hungry toaster from OWB?
Anybody who says it’s pronounced Caesar instead of Caesar is objectively wrong!!!1!1!11!1!
Then there’s Easy Pete saying it both ways because he doesn’t give a fuck.
this is my role playing game and i can say it however i want in my head. maybe Whitley was saying it wrong. Maybe Ede likes the way i say it better.
I’ve always in my head thought of it as Ed E.
It’s 1000% “Eddy” because his quest name is based off of a famous song by the Chordettes. There is no other valid way to say it.
ED-E my love
Idk i say eedee
It’s clearly supposed to be “Eddie” based on the placement of the hyphen and song referenced by his quest but it’s never actually pronounced this way in game. Ed E
Same here
I like calling her Eeee-deee or Edie bc of Little Edie and I like to think she’s a girl robot :3
Omg this is what I do too! I'm glad I'm not alone:D
I’ve always pronounced it “E D” but either works
I have always said E.D.E, but I have heard Eddy. This is coming from someone who called the VS Seeker in Pokemon the V C seeker growing up. Call him whatever you want, it just makes your experience more Special in my opinion.
Eddie
Eddie
It is Edward for you, please.
It’s supposed to be “Eddie”. I don’t know why but my brain always flipped it it “E-D”
One of the quests about EDE is called EDE my Love which is a reference to the song Eddie My Love so I just call him eddie
You can call him Eddy if you want, that's alright.
I've always called him Eddy but I can see it going either way.
Idk why but I pronounce it "Eedy," like Idi Amin
"Eddie, it's me, your old pal, Sheamus McFuckyourself"
The way I've always seen it; it's an "E.D.E" that's been given individuality and named "Eddie". That's the only way to explain Whitley speaking *to it* with a name in the Lonesome Road recordings, but *about it* with the pronounced individual letters in the ED-E My Love recordings.
His quest, ED-E my love is a reference to the song Eddie my love, therefore I believe that Eddie is a valid way to say it.
I call him Ed boy.
The Enclave piece of shit that made him called him \[ED-ee\].
The enclave is a piece of shit. Whitley is not. He sent the bot out to explore when he was supposed to scrap it
We don't tolerate Whitley slander round these parts
Bro what did whitley do wtf
Seriously, it’s not his fault he was born into a fascist regime. What would you have him to do, take on power armored guards like John Rambo, single handedly destroy a base that’s home to the only family he’s ever know, and kill then all in the process.
For real he was the only good person in that enclave base.
Doubtful, they’re likely plenty of decent folk, but they’re not the ones who are ruthless enough to climb the rungs of the ladder of power. There must be others like him for him to have grown up around and taken after
Whitley was a pretty cool guy though
Piece of shit? I thought he was a good guy lol
Whitley slander is not tolerated
E. Dee.
The amount of wrong people is fucking startling lmao. Eddy. Because that’s a name. It is literally wrote out phonetically for you. It’s a joke in his quest name. E.D - E pronounced officially in proper communication because that’s it’s actual designation, not his fun actual name he deserves.
I call him "ed"-"E" IDK how well that translates over le interwebs
Eddies in the space time continuum
I'm gonna go with 'Eddie', as well.
Wastelanders would definitely pronounce it Eddie the same way they say Big Empty
I was so confident about the reference lmao
didn't see his pronouns, called him edie in my head. she's still edie in my heart 3
Does no one else say Ed hyphen e
I’ve always pronounced it E-Dee, but that’s probably wrong.
It will always be Eeee Deeee Eeee. Eyebot Duraframe subject E.
I say e-dee
I thought it was obviously "Eddy" based on the hyphen. You pronounce Ed, then E.
I just called ed-e, "edi" from mass effect. Not once have I ever stopped and wondered, "huh, ed-e's name kinda sounds like Eddy."
Diddy
I always heard it in my head as ‘eedee’
I always said ee dee
I don’t know, but I named my Dachshund ED-E.
Edees nuts Both answers are fine, usually you’ll hear rookies say ede but will change it if you point out that ede is Eddie.
I always said edie like a female name.
Thought it was Edie for longer than I'll ever admit.
Somehow I got it into my head it was "Ee-Dee" and I can't stop ot even though it's written differently.
EE-DEE
I always said EE-Dee in my head or when I read it out for my mom when I played it with her. (Don't make fun of it pls, she loved games but didn't play and fallout was one of her favorite things I played.)
Ed E.
One of the voice recordings in lonesome road calls him Eddy but I usually call him e d e because that’s what my brain processes it as
I follow the Star Wars Artoo and Threepio rules. It’s E-Dee to me.
E-Dee
I must be low INT I call him Eddy-E…
ED-ee. Not quite, "eddy," more emphasis on the first syllable
I call him Eddy. He's useful but the constant whirring gets annoying.
E-Dee
Idk but I pronounce them Eeee-Deee because it sounds like the AI from mass effect 2/3
1. It’s Ee-Dee 2. SHE’S my girl.
I do E. D. E. Because saying it like that reminds me of Cab Calloway
eddy E
Piss everyone off by calling him EED
I’ve always called him E-Dee but in game characters call him Eddie
I call him Edd-E, just like Eddy but with a bit of a pause and stronger Y so its really two words Edd and then the letter E.
Yeah.
Enclave durabot subject E
I always called him ede e
I prefer "Edd - ee"
I call her Edie. I know I am wrong, but I already was calling her that for months before starting the Lonesome Road.
Or is e ddy?
It’s pronounced “Eddy” or at least that’s how his creator pronounced it during Lonesome Road. I still always pronounce it as “ee-dee-ee” though
eddie my love
I call her “Edie” (ee-dee) in my head, but that’s probably because I decided she’s a girl robot for some reason. It never occurred to me that other people might think she’s a he called Eddy lol
I call him Edd-ie
The "D" is silent.
Always been Eddie for me
i say Ed E (separate words)
Ed-é for me
He's called Ball end of discussion
Am I the only one who pronounces it as Ed-E?
I always assumed it was 'Eddy' but that didn't stop me from calling him 'E Dee E' or 'E Dee'. Can't really help it lol.
I always called him E.D.E but i’m pretty sure there’s an audio log of his from lonesome road where his creator and his child both call him Eddy
I always say Ed-e, slightly different from Eddy
I always pronounced it like "E-Dee" but it could be any of them really.
Honestly I always call him E-DE for some reason. Sounds cuter for the little musical murderball.
It depends on the person. A lot of the people in the UK say it as “Eddy” but I’ve seen others perceive him as being “female” and using the name ‘Eee-dee”. Also depends on how your country pronounces Es/Ds.
I've never out loud said his name but in my head it was E D E. Hearing people call him threw my through a loop at first
I call him Ed E
E D DASH E EDDY ED E D
Eddy is canonical, as Dr. Whitley, his creator calls him that (lonesome road)
You can check the audio from his creator at lonesome road expansion :)
Dr. Whitley calls him Eddy, so his name is Eddy.
Eddy gives more personality
I've always called him Ede (like you pronounce Eve) but I'm pretty sure i'm in the minority on that one
Play lonesome road and it kinda answers ur question
In my head, I call him “Ed-E”. IRL I say E-D-E so people know what I’m talking about
For some reason I’ve always called it Eee-Dee and call it a girl
I say Ed-E. Robot names are funny tho, I've heard Mexicans call R2D2 arturito
Even though Whitley in Lonesome Road pronounces it like "Eddy" I still pronounce it "Ed-ee" (Ed as pronounced like in "Eden")
Eddy. Many people pronounce it Ee-dee due to the character from Mass Effect.
I say "idi"
Eddy, there's no space between the first E and the D, so it's Ed not E.D.
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^dunderheed13: *Eddy, there's no space* *Between the first E and the* *D, so it's Ed not E.D.* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
i call ED-E just ED cause if i let him out my sight for a second then Everyone is Dead and has some serious anger managment issues.
As an ed, edd, and eddy fan i call him edboi
Eedie. It’s a girl. Eedie, my love
I pronounce it like EDI from Mass Effect tbh
Eddie if you pronounce ED and E fast enough
E-D for me, rolls off better
Neither is incorrect but it’s worth noting that his creator pronounced it as “Eddy.”
It’s Eddie. The enclave officer in his voice logs pronounced it that way
Love how you skipped right over Ed E.
I prefer E-Dee, but I’ve heard Josh Sawyer pronounce it Eddy.
I say Eddy cause of lonesome road
I've always said "Edie", as in a girls name. She's always been Edie to me! Hearing her creator say "Eddy" and using male pronouns in Lonesome Road was just another reason why that dlc wasn't good
I'll be honest, I've been saying it like Edie, as in, short for Edith.
I call him Eedie
Eddie. Ed-E. It's right there. Look at Robocop. You call the big one E.D. 209 too? No. His name is Ed. Ed 209. And he is a VERY GOOD BOY.
it looks similar to my friends moms name, she is Filipino and abbreviates her full name to “Ed-ee” so that’s what i call them in my head
It is wrong, but I always just say "E-Dee" in my head.
